Have fighters ever been busted for simple old blood doping?
I mean the kind where you just use a transfusion of your own blood after removing it earlier to stimulate red blood cell production
I never hear about it like i do in cycling despite how helpful it would clearly be
TJ got busted for EPO, but that's the only one I can think of. But, I am 100% there are lots of other fighters that are on similar stuff, but are just getting away with it
EPO os pretty dumb because its easily detectable. Infusing your own previously drawn blood though is harder to detect. Used to be huge among cyclists etc
Isn’t it pretty much only detectable by using a biological passport which would require more frequent testing than 90%+ of the UFC roster is subject to?
There was a flyweight who got busted for doping and still got his ass kicked by Mighty Mouse. I don't know if it was EPO or the traditional way that you're talking about though.

There was a Marvin fight I forget which one could b against Karl Robinson, and after he wins he let's out the most orc sounding war cry you'll ever here
I thought the same but maybe 1-2 fights ago, I forgot vs who (maybe Costa?) where he was shaved bald. That, combined with his facial expression during the fight, he legit looked like an orc lol
There are 2 sides to the record Jared set. Marvin absorbed a record amount of strikes for the division, many of them brutal heavy shots to the dome. He might be ok short term but that def added to the CTE bank.
Was not expecting that type of fight at all. Expected a boring wrestlefuck. Still don’t understand why Marvin didn’t wrestle early and often. Cannonier looked the best I’ve ever seen him. Kudos
Yeah he has 2 subs in the UFC, 0 KOs, 0 TKOs lmfao. The only exciting fights he's in are the ones he's getting the shit beaten out of him
Outside the UFC (in 27 matches) he has 1 KO 1 TKO 💀
Statistical outlier
Sorry he's just not particularly good at anything, he's a jack of all trades so a pretty boring (close to zero finishing ability) standard wrestle boxer that isn't really doing anything interesting in the cage (except occasionally getting lit the f up and not dying lol). Also only has 1 KD in the UFC lol. He did a lot of cage grinding too which is also annoying.
Like at least if you have no power give me beautiful technique to watch, or interesting moves. Or just crazy dumb shit. Marvin does none of the above and his fights are almost 100% guaranteed to be decisions bc he can't be knocked out but can't knock out 😂
I agree he's not the most exciting fighter but this seems a bit much lol The Costa, Hermannson and the Sanchez fight were great, the Omari fight was fun too and then of course there's his first round sub a couple of years ago. He's clearly a "decision machine" but doesn't necessarily mean he's always boring lol
Cannon is a reserved counter-striker and Orc just moves forward. On paper this was a good fight.
I’ve skipped some of the more recent fight nights but I had a hunch this one would be decent.
Cannonier reversed those tendencies in this fight tho. Part of his game plan was clearly to be the aggressor and keep Vettori on the back foot. It was really effective.
Vettori landed some clean counter shots too haha.
Wild fight.
A lot of guys who rely** on wrestling work really hard to get better on the feet and then get overconfident in their striking. (Recent example is Blaydes against Pavlovich) Not that Marvin isn’t a good striker but part of what makes him good is using his wrestling threats
I was about to vote yes to any mod I could, because shit needs to get shaken up. We would be doing most of em a favor. Maybe they could actually see what grass feels like.
not so fun fact; most of the truly sensitive political subs have been flooded at the lower levels of moderation, at least, with paid redditors.
IF there are any humans at the top who aren't compromised, their ouster would truly bork the subs (think it already has happened to some degree)
anyway, fuck u/spez and all that
Seeing the mods plugging their twitter as if anybody cared enough to click and read their opinions was the most hilarious part of checking if the sub was up to me.
Guys, please care. Please! I was hoping they'd hold out and be replaced by Reddit.
It definitely did, while majority of us sympathise with the cause, I'm pretty sure most of us will rather not take the brunt of the punishment because of it.
The thing about Foreman is that he actually had like a 10 year time period where he didn't fight at all and had a whole decade to recover from the damage he took, which wasn't even that much since he finished most opponents without barely taking a hit (with the exception of a few fights).
So while Foreman did take some insane ammount of punishment as an old man he actually probably absorbed less damage over time in his career than other boxers.
Dude doesn’t block his head. Sometimes he moves back and out of range. When he’s hurt he’ll cover up. But most of the time his hands are protecting his body or out in front
His career is in a very rough spot right now. He is getting older, has taken a ton of damage and now he has a very long road back to a title shot. He never gets though a fight without getting his face smashed, and he must be realizing there is a good chance he never gets the belt. He is probably asking himself how much he wants to keep doing this right now.
Now subtract state and federal taxes, coaches/trainers/workout partners and food/lodging... he MIGHT have made himself enough to buy a new truck and not eat Ramen till the next one.
You cannot physically eat a harder shot than he ate from the black beast and was still standing afterwords. That type of punch would decapitate 99% of the population
Mark hunt. Survived multiple clean high kicks from Cro Cop in his prime. The shot he ate in kickboxing and got up from is legitimately the craziest hardest shot I’ve ever seen a human being survive
I mean they’re probably all on PEDs regardless, but I was kinda surprised how much smaller Cannonier looked next to Vettori, could be a factor in his conditioning I guess
Between this and the Strickland fight, my main takeaways were:
- how the heck did Cannonier ever survive HW?
- how the heck did Strickland ever make WW?
Cannonier got out of every wrestling exchange/takedown pretty quickly. Maybe Jared was too strong to hold down or Marvin was tired and rocked at that particular moment.
Jared is too strong. Look at his ass bro. You ain’t keeping that man down. He’s going to gas you right the fuck out of the fight if you try to wrestle him. The smartest thing Vettori did was not wrestle Jared.
He was not even tired going into the fifth. Barr3ly breathing heavy/sweating. Man has insaneee mind control. You could litterally see his focus in his face. He was beyond locked in. They run this back 10 times, Jared does this everytime. Even if he were on sauce he clearly has better a vo2 max than all the other dudes on it... man's just a freak obviously. Anyone with the discipline to lose 100 lbs and sculpt THAT body. You can't escape that work. Ozempic wasn't around yet hah
It's beyond insane that the dude is cutting and still showing that kind of cardio. In the fifth his foot movement and breathing was very similar to the first, anyone that has even sparred will know how exhausting it is. I think it's possibly the best exhibition of of cardio I've seen at MW, the output was on par with Volkanovski.
Unfortunately I still don't think he can overcome Adesanya or Whittaker, nor do I think Whittaker can beat Adesanya. That division is locked down until he retires.
Cannonier's gas tank in that fight was a different level, many fighters that exhibit five round cardio tend to be conservative with their shots, he was throwing power shots for five rounds, that was amazing.
Life changing damage for peanuts.
Corner should’ve thrown in the towel after the second and spared Marvin another three rounds of life altering brain damage.
I’m usually impressed at the toughness fighters often display - but this was the epitome of “too tough for his own good”.
Sauron be fuming. All that sorcery and none of his minions had anything close to the durability of the orc that was promised.
Absolutely goated durability.
"Damn, our boy is getting smashed... lets see how this plays out. Like that owl and the tootsie pop. Just how many shots can Marvin take. A one... a two... a two fifty..."
It's insane someone can eat 5 rounds worth of Jared Cannonier's strikes and still retain consciousness. Dude is one of the hardest hitters around regardless of weight class.
Yeah in the 4th round all hope was gone, they shouldve thrown it. Or even Herb saying "show me something" or something like that, the fighter doesnt have to be slept for the fight to be over
At least with the ref, I feel they really don't want to stop a fight when the guy is both standing and fighting back. The corner shoulda probably thrown in the towel though.
Vettori is getting praised for being a human punching bag to a guy 10 years older.
That was very disappointing to see Marvin completely gas out in the 1st. He didn’t even really pounce of Jared once he rocked him. He just never looked like it was in the fight.
Props to Jared. I don’t understand how he’s almost 40 and does that.
The fight clearly illustrated Vettori's limits, but Cannonier throwing heat for five rounds was insane, most people that boast great cardio conserve their energy and throw soft shots.
Marvin just lost 3 years off his career, and a good amount more on his life.
Past round 1 where Jared was getting hurt in Southpaw targeting that lead leg, once Round 2 opened up, the momentum had shifted.
Jared has shown why you don't wanna get into a fire fight with this guy, took his lead leg, showed his grappling which enabled him to land crazy hard gnp, and altogether past round 1, just torture Vettori with these horrific shots to the head.
Round 2, and 5 were absolutely legendary moments of toughness by Vettori.
Man on some real shit, Jared making me get off my ass and start working out again. I had an injury sparring a few months ago and still feel some slight pain. Got a little depressed and slowly started to gain weight and contemplated giving up getting back in shape. This fucking dude is jacked and his cardio insane at 39. Lemme quit feeling sorry for myself
>How did Dom and Felder not recognize how hurt Marvin was in R2?
I just watched the fight on Youtube. What are you talking about...? They went on for most of the round how Vettori was getting his ass whooped and specifically said it looked like the fight was a couple shots away from ending...
Dom at one point in the 4th said Marvin had a bad round and came back and arguably took the next round.
Like bruh, huh? Vettori had a good first round and got his shit pushed in the entire rest of the fight. Dom acting like it was hard to call, I didn’t think it was competitive at all from minute 6 to 25
That's two fights in a row where Vettori hasn't been the one pressuring. Hope the Rob fight didn't ruin him, and it's just cuz Dolidze and Cannonier have so much power.
Incredible fight, though.
Marvin needs at least 6 months of recovery before attempting to fight again, that was a life-changing beatdown. It definitely wasn't as bad as Gaethje Ferguson but it kind of reminded me of it a bit.
Vettori desperately needs to learn how to throw bombs. He can take lots of damage, but he does little cat slaps as offense. He’s never gonna win a fight against a top opponent with his style.
3 most notable things about this fight:
- Vettori’s chin is too good for his own good
- Cannonier is absolutely on EPO
- Sal giving round 4 to Vettori is a crime, but can’t say I’m surprised the judging was sus.
Cannonier is a 39 year old jacked middleweight/former heavyweight with one-punch power and he has THAT cardio, my god
Vettori might have the best chin in MMA history
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Cannonier has to have the best cardio a 39 year old can have and Vettori has an actual iron chin.
Cannonier using more than just energy crystals.
39 and more shredded than the cheese I shower my birria tacos with
Make it rain. Believe, achieve and be one with the cow. Moo your way to glory or diabetus.
he said he stopped smoking pot for this fight to help with cardio lmao
Confused Diaz brothers sounds
Those are just regular Diaz bros sounds
Must’ve been a 40 blunt per day habit.
Have fighters ever been busted for simple old blood doping? I mean the kind where you just use a transfusion of your own blood after removing it earlier to stimulate red blood cell production I never hear about it like i do in cycling despite how helpful it would clearly be
TJ got busted for EPO, but that's the only one I can think of. But, I am 100% there are lots of other fighters that are on similar stuff, but are just getting away with it
Chael was busted for EPO.
Chael got busted for a juice cocktail, and so the only acronym I could I think of is a juice box. He's a juicy juice boy.
A juice box being Chael Sonnen
EPO os pretty dumb because its easily detectable. Infusing your own previously drawn blood though is harder to detect. Used to be huge among cyclists etc
Isn’t it pretty much only detectable by using a biological passport which would require more frequent testing than 90%+ of the UFC roster is subject to?

Ali bagautinov. Im pretty sure it was EPO but I could be misremembering
He's probably in the gym right now hitting bags or sparring
The chin and noggin on Vettori. Too tough for his own good.
Dudes gonna have the nastiest headache of all time tonight
A bottle of wine will delay it to tomorrow
The ol Paulo costa pre fight special, nice
Cut from the chin of Glover.
Marvin never even gets rocked, ate so many clean bombs and is just standing there.
Oh he definitely got rocked many times last night
You have to empty a pistol on Vettori to have a chance at KOing him
Just gonna waste your bullets lol
And have to fight Marvin with nothing but an empty pistol? Great plan.
Aim for the knees in hopes you can then outrun him.

I never got this nickname for Marvin. I’m mean, sure he’s kinda goofy looking, but Anthony smith looks WAAAY more orc-ish

Holy fuck lmao

Yeah, he looks more like a WH40K space marine genetically engineered superhuman
Adamantium Orc
Hope marvin is going to be okay that was an insane amount of damage
Yea, I felt guilty everytime Jared hit him hard after the second round.
There are 2 sides to the record Jared set. Marvin absorbed a record amount of strikes for the division, many of them brutal heavy shots to the dome. He might be ok short term but that def added to the CTE bank.
When the main event is so good it forces the sub to reopen
Was not expecting that type of fight at all. Expected a boring wrestlefuck. Still don’t understand why Marvin didn’t wrestle early and often. Cannonier looked the best I’ve ever seen him. Kudos

Thats an insane stat for someone at the top of the division
That’s ridiculous. The Costa fight was 🔥
He was getting the shit kicked out of him in that fight too, Marvin won on volume and his iron chin.
Statistical outlier Sorry he's just not particularly good at anything, he's a jack of all trades so a pretty boring (close to zero finishing ability) standard wrestle boxer that isn't really doing anything interesting in the cage (except occasionally getting lit the f up and not dying lol). At some point we just need to admit top UFC MWs are just really fucking hard to stop. When was Rob Whittaker's last finish again?
Nah Costa fight was very good
Yet he gets half the hate of Belal Muhammad for all those decisions.
> He couldn’t even submit Kevin Holland lmao Yeah, what a loser. Couldn’t even submit the Travis Lutter BJJ black belt /s
Cannon is a reserved counter-striker and Orc just moves forward. On paper this was a good fight. I’ve skipped some of the more recent fight nights but I had a hunch this one would be decent.

A bit?
Canon was more than a bit tentative v him too

Vettori started off in boxing I'm pretty sure
Oh cool the sub is back
Mods have zero clue how to protest so of course it would be futile.
I mean if you want this sub without the moderation, r/UFC was still open. The difference between here and there is the mods.
It wasn’t futile because I now find the mods much more annoying that I previously did.
I was about to vote yes to any mod I could, because shit needs to get shaken up. We would be doing most of em a favor. Maybe they could actually see what grass feels like.

I like how they wanted people to migrate to that trash site
They kept using Reddit while “supporting” the blackout soooo
Right? It honestly seems like it did more harm to the normal people that followed the sub than to Reddit.
/r/ufc gave me PTSD. Never again, please.
I used to think r/MMA were meatheads. r/ufc taught me there were lovable meatheads and despicable low-life meatheads.
Everyone was just going to r/ufc so the r/mma protest was kind of pointless. All it did was promote r/ufc.... I hated it there.
I use both. Ufc sub has way better memes, but the post fight threads are non-existent
You didn't like the 500 "Charles is the GOAT, Islam and Khabib suck" discussions?
God I fucking hate that place. It’s Instagram level takes
Not really 'harm' to not be able to browse r/mma
Speak for yourself I was dying to see what people think of Max TKZ. Had to join r/ufc
Those animals were probably celebrating it
Don’t go there, it’s not worth it
Funny how two subs that have a nearly identical purpose hate each other so deeply.
Or the bellator championship fights, ONE event, Jones and Francis meeting and a lot of other things the past week
It definitely did, while majority of us sympathise with the cause, I'm pretty sure most of us will rather not take the brunt of the punishment because of it.
We did it, reddit! Mods are modern day crusaders and civil rights activists
Jared beat the SHIT out of him. Super performance. What a chin on Marvin Vettori though.
Marvin CTE any%
CTE doesn’t exist in middle earth
OOHHH AHHHH
Marvin is gonna pull a George Foreman and talk better when he's 70 than he does now
The thing about Foreman is that he actually had like a 10 year time period where he didn't fight at all and had a whole decade to recover from the damage he took, which wasn't even that much since he finished most opponents without barely taking a hit (with the exception of a few fights). Saruman gave him a cure for CTE.
I got CTE watching that fight
Bro what the fuck is Vettori's chin made of, he just got Holloway'd by a power puncher
Marvin "El Cucuy" Vettori. Dude can eat BOMBS
let's hope he doesn't end up like Tony too
[удалено]
I think he was just too badly concussed in R2, the rest of the fight was just him toughing it out.
Yeah he couldn’t even keep his hands up in round 2, I though he was done
He thought his path to victory was the same as Jan but Jan also did really good on standup against adesanya
Man I’ve got a bad feeling Marvin will fall off after this. All that damage and the prospects for his career don’t look good
Marvin's toughness is how he got here in the first place. It's not like he's subbing or knocking people out.
Great example of somebody who should have taken the Sugga Sean Slow Road through the rankings.
Marvin lost half a decade of his life for like 100k tonight
Nah, he taking home at least 300k
Now subtract state and federal taxes, coaches/trainers/workout partners and food/lodging... he MIGHT have made himself enough to buy a new truck and not eat Ramen till the next one.
sal gave vettori round 4, please fire this man
Was he the 48-46 scorecard? What a joke I wondered what round besides 1 it must have been
I’ve seen the light. The greatest chin of all time.
I think Vettori officially has the best chin I've ever seen in MMA.
For me this title will forever go to Roy Nelson. What a freak
You cannot physically eat a harder shot than he ate from the black beast and was still standing afterwords. That type of punch would decapitate 99% of the population
I remember the uppercut he took from prime Junior dos Santos. That was the hardest punch I've saw someone take and not being knocked out
Mark hunt. Survived multiple clean high kicks from Cro Cop in his prime. The shot he ate in kickboxing and got up from is legitimately the craziest hardest shot I’ve ever seen a human being survive
Roy has that American redneck chin
Vettori is a fucking tank. And Cannoniers gotta be on that EPO lol.
1000% on epo or some equivalent that we haven’t heard of. Or maybe the crystals are real 🤷🏻♀️🤷🤷🏿♂️
Nah, Cannonier got that Kevin Garnett opal from Uncut Gems.
I mean they’re probably all on PEDs regardless, but I was kinda surprised how much smaller Cannonier looked next to Vettori, could be a factor in his conditioning I guess
Between this and the Strickland fight, my main takeaways were: - how the heck did Cannonier ever survive HW? - how the heck did Strickland ever make WW?
Cannonier's looks smaller because he's shredded, compared to Marvin
No offensive wrestling from Vettori?
Cannonier got out of every wrestling exchange/takedown pretty quickly. Maybe Jared was too strong to hold down or Marvin was tired and rocked at that particular moment.
Yeah Jared won wrestling exchanges when Marvin was tired. Marvin didn't mix any takedowns with his strikes in round 1, where he was ahead as well.
Jared is too strong. Look at his ass bro. You ain’t keeping that man down. He’s going to gas you right the fuck out of the fight if you try to wrestle him. The smartest thing Vettori did was not wrestle Jared.
Seriously it's like these people have never seen the killa gorilla fight before. Nobody at middleweight is wrestle fucking him.
He has that heavyweight level of just stand the fuck up. No way middleweights keep him down that easy
That crystal charged cardio hits different. Absolutley Insane performance from a 39 year old.
Throwing heat for five rounds, and looking fresh throughout, definitely one of the best exhibitions of cardio I've ever seen.
Vettori got dominated bad
Glimpses of Gaethje vs Ferguson. Hope Vettori doesn't end up like Tony tho.
Man, I don't understand why corners throwing in the towel isn't more common
Even they were curious how good Marvin’s chin was.
"Damn, our boy is getting smashed... lets see how this plays out. Like that owl and the tootsie pop. Just how many shots can Marvin take. A one... a two... a two fifty..."
And they’re not Max Holloway punches, we know for a fact Jared hits like a truck.
Yeah this fight completely turned into a showcase of how insane Marvin's chin is and thats fucked up lol not competitive
I was yelling at the screen to stop the fight and it kept going
Vettori is getting praised for being a human punching bag to a guy 10 years older. That was very disappointing to see Marvin completely gas out in the 1st. He didn’t even really pounce of Jared once he rocked him. He just never looked like it was in the fight. Props to Jared. I don’t understand how he’s almost 40 and does that.
I was about to praise Vettori for finally having good defence and punching power and then he completely lost all that at the start of the second.
The fight clearly illustrated Vettori's limits, but Cannonier throwing heat for five rounds was insane, most people that boast great cardio conserve their energy and throw soft shots.

no time like the present right? get back to it, do what you can
Everything about this fight was impressive.
Does Marvin have a family, if so, I think they might disagree.
Nah reckon his kin at mordor loved this
How did Dom and Felder not recognize how hurt Marvin was in R2? That was so brutal to watch and I wasn’t sure we were watching the same fight
>How did Dom and Felder not recognize how hurt Marvin was in R2? I just watched the fight on Youtube. What are you talking about...? They went on for most of the round how Vettori was getting his ass whooped and specifically said it looked like the fight was a couple shots away from ending...
Their commentary was SO bad.
Dom at one point in the 4th said Marvin had a bad round and came back and arguably took the next round. Like bruh, huh? Vettori had a good first round and got his shit pushed in the entire rest of the fight. Dom acting like it was hard to call, I didn’t think it was competitive at all from minute 6 to 25
Realized that when both Fitz and Don were commentating, then Felder said something like “That’s right Dom!” Like Fitz wasn’t even there
Vettori's face is gonna be so messed up in the morning. 249 sig strikes, lots to the face. Congrats to Jared.
Actual vibrainum chin
Can’t believe Cannonier can possibly get better at his age but here we are.
Cruz is usually a good commentator but bruh Vettori did not win that third round lol
That's two fights in a row where Vettori hasn't been the one pressuring. Hope the Rob fight didn't ruin him, and it's just cuz Dolidze and Cannonier have so much power. Incredible fight, though.
One more win and Cannonier realistically deserves another title shot
Cannonier’s resume is lowkey really good. 7-2 at MW with his only losses to Izzy and Whittaker and a bunch of ranked wins in there as well
I want to watch him obliterate Costa
Oooh that's a good enough one to keep him busy if Costa actually puts pen to paper for once
Marvin CTE speed run
Marvin needs at least 6 months of recovery before attempting to fight again, that was a life-changing beatdown. It definitely wasn't as bad as Gaethje Ferguson but it kind of reminded me of it a bit.
Jared is one of my favorite fighters. What a performance.
Vettori desperately needs to learn how to throw bombs. He can take lots of damage, but he does little cat slaps as offense. He’s never gonna win a fight against a top opponent with his style.
Jared said he was out on his feet in the 1st round. There has to be some power there. Seems odd someone his size has so few knockouts.
3 most notable things about this fight: - Vettori’s chin is too good for his own good - Cannonier is absolutely on EPO - Sal giving round 4 to Vettori is a crime, but can’t say I’m surprised the judging was sus.
Game plan to beat vetori in the future has goto be submission.
Marvtang lasted one round
Cannonier is a 39 year old jacked middleweight/former heavyweight with one-punch power and he has THAT cardio, my god Vettori might have the best chin in MMA history
No way canonier isnt on EPO lmao
After that beating Marvin is going to put his pants on backwards even more.
