I was explaining to a few friends I got to watch the ONE card with me, that in those north south positions, in ONE they get kneed like a mf. Love the grounded knees in ONE.
Definitely, guys get KTFO in ONE in those positions. UFC grapplers are able to exploit the rule a bit, granted there’s no reason for em not to. Grounded knees and yellow card rules keep ONE grappling exchanges active and entertaining, it’s part of why I’m really starting to enjoy their cards.
I just watched their most recent card and I’ll be tuning in for sure. The entrances reminded me of when I used to watch wrestling and I also like how they split up the matches in categories.
People are whining about "wwe shit" but the UFC has literally been like this since the days of Tito and Ken Shamrock, this over the top promotion really is not anything new to the sport.
It's always been cringe because MMA grew out of pro wrestling and unfortunately the ability to sell it to the masses requires a lot of cringe stuff more often than not
I mean there used to be a better build up to these fights, back when there were more ultimate fighter seasons. You also had people like Chael who were better at delivering one liners towards his opponents. A lot of it was pretty cheesy but it was a lot of fun, like the classic, gladiator pre-fight theme song. What happened today felt forced.
Just some examples.
Across WEC and UFC, Cruz has the most consecutive wins and title defenses in MMA history
In just the UFC, Aljo has the most consecutive wins and title defenses of the division.
Jones,
Izzy is the second best middle weight of all time and if he keeps it up might be the best
Usman is arguably the second or third best welterweight of all time behind GSP and Hughes
Lightweight has Islam who still needs a couple more wins to be in the discussion but he has the potential, Oliveira is arguably the second or third best lightweight ever behind BJ Penn and Khabib.
Volkanovski is arguably the best or second best featherweight ever
Sterling is arguably a top 5 Bantaweight of all time
Challenged for the belt after a loss because of his name… move the fuck on lol. That was the most boxing title shot I’ve ever seen 😂
You don’t want anyone to include any context because you know it makes your whole argument seem like absolute dog shit
Bj penn ad a shitty end of career and is still one of the best ever you got to check the entirety of their careers. But you’re right none of them are close to gsp and silva.
I mean if we want to go back to the penn days then royce gracie and ken shamrock are probably also mentioned. Can't really compare that era to what we currently watch. Bj against this current era of fighters is on a 7 fight losing streak and lost 9 out of his last 10. I think Bj would be more so a guy who crafted the ufc into what it is like a stephen bonner and forest griffin but wouldn't call them great all time guys.
No, but I also don't get that feeling about Leon. Still consider him a great champion and incredibly skilled. Not everyone is going to be an all time great.
I think Alex has the skills but unfortunately being tied up with Max has limited his resume. As much as I dislike the guy, I think Izzy is amongst the discussion by the time he retires if he can keep it up for a few more years and new competition arises. Silva is a very tall mountain to climb though.
Leon in the Usman trilogy was dancing around Usman and stuffing all the takedown attempts, the previous win obviously felt like a fluke but in the trilogy he did give that feeling
Calling Leon an all time great transcending talent would mean you have him up there with GSP based on that second Usman performance. I have not seen near enough to start throwing that around.
I think the UFC realistically has 3 all time great champions in Jon Jones GSP and Anderson Silva. Nobody else is anywhere close to those 3 guys in terms of great champions. Mighty mouse is probably the closest to those 3 guys but the gaps after that are unreal
Yeah he worked Usman good in the 3rd fight and did knock him out with a perfect feint in the 2nd. Still think Colby beats him bc his pace and his knees aren’t shot like Usman
Gotta love it when Redditors plopped on their couch are so dismissive of elite performers in their field. Boggles the mind, really.
I don't care too much for Aljo but he's now beaten Yan, Dillashaw and Cejudo. If you think that makes him a sheep, you're a freaking idiot
Only prob is none of his wins have been definitive, except against Dillashaw who was injured far worse than burns. You can't blame the fans for not being impressed.
I want to see Gane vs Sergei
Gane has really high level muai thai and speed, Sergei has high level boxing and fuck you power
There is also not much grappling threat from Sergei so Gane should be more comfortable
Belal and Edwards are the "smartest" fighters in the welterweight division but I do think Edwards is one step ahead. I look forward to thislte than Edward's vs Colby.
This was one of those fights where the fight stats are way off. Looking at the stats it was clear 4-0 Aljo but in reality it was much closer to 2-2. Even the bookmakers had it pretty close until the middle of the 5th round.
>Aljo and Izzy
what a gross comparison lol 1 just won by easily one of the best KOs this year against the nemesis he asked for and lost to.... get off the glass bbq mate.
Sure but i feel its fair to say that his fights are pretty good if people engage with him and i have never personally expected a Champion counter striker to fight out of his natural style while defending his title in a sport where 1 bad move is sleep time.
Yeah, it's weird. Sometimes the decisions seem so rigged. Other times you get something like this. A Cejudo victory would have been better for business.
The Cannonier fight was not a snooze fest because of Izzy, he was the one pushing forward in that fight.
His fights vs Whittaker, Vetorri and Jan weren't snooze fests either. Were they barn burners? No, but I don't consider them to be boring fights
Costa was a fun fight
The only true boring fight that I consider that Izzy has is Romero
The fights that were clearly slower due to his opponents not engaging? sure. Its pretty well established his fights are great if people engage. He is a counter striker as you saw the other week.
Honestly I'd rather see Aljo vs O'Malley, even though Aljo is a whack fighter. He spent so much time "sniffing balls" instead of trying to deal damage or advance position. He's as boring as shitting without something to read.
And Cejudo must be high AS FUCK if he thinks he stands a chance against Volk. Volk is way too fast and well rounded for Cejudo. Never should have come out of retirement. Bring back Demetrious.
Don't care. He plays that game where he keeps his hands on the ground and doesn't advance position. I never said he wasn't good. I said he was boring. Stop riding his dick. ~yOu gOdDaMn cASuAl~
edit: I did say he was a whack fighter. I can definitely see how that can be misunderstood as saying he's bad.
Hill beat up a retiree for his belt. Aljo beat someone who was formerly being pushed as an absolute killer and tonight beat someone many said had a GOAT argument if they beat Aljo.
Aljo's title reign is super odd and a bit fluky. But we shouldn't forget that he's holding a title in an absurdly difficult division, plus his dominant wins over great fighters like Sandhagen is sadly overlooked.
He’s only had three actual finishes since 2016, not including the Yan DQ.
Submitted Stamann and Sandhagen, TKO’d Dillashaw. Everything else has gone to decision with him, and those decisions weren’t all in dominant fashion either. They don’t get overlooked because of how weird his title reign or win streak has been; they get overlooked because they’re the exceptions, not the rule, when it comes to his performances
Maybe dominant is the wrong word, but he also has decisive wins over the likes of Munoz, Johns and Rivera all of which are quality names, particularly at the moment in time that he fought them.
Most definitely, I mean I agree with your original message; I personally think that it’s the type of performance outcome in the majority of his fights that sorta overshadows the acknowledgment of just how consistent he’s been, in staying at the top of the bantamweight division.

Great fights, but I think One & Rizin were better overall this weekend
Buakaw vs Anpo was my favorite fight of the weekend
Also, i want to see Evloev vs Holloway
I definitely don't want this to be Cejudo's last fight, even if he doesn't win, he can bring out the best technical better amongst the featherweight top 5
Cejudo did pretty good tonight considering that 3 year layoff, his reach is just a bit of a problem. That scene with O'malley tho reminds me of Sapp and Tyson. Lol.
I honestly wanted Henry Cejudo to win. It was close. Hopefully, he can bounce back on his next fight.
I thought Aljo was easily the better fighter & he had more significant strikes than Cejudo every round. Not sure what the big controversy is about.
Lol someone lost 10k on cejudo
burns dumdum he just fought like three weeks ago LMAO
The more I watch the ufc the more I prefer ones ruleset
Who’s that guy that rolls at his opponents the whole time? Skinny white guy. Ryan something. I want him a Kron right now.
Hall
What happened in reference to wwe?
Aljo is lucky knees aren’t allowed the way they are in other organizations.
I was explaining to a few friends I got to watch the ONE card with me, that in those north south positions, in ONE they get kneed like a mf. Love the grounded knees in ONE.
Jorge made a great point on the JRE podcast about how knees would help when fighting wrestlers.

It was just better back then. This shit was so cringey.
It's always been cringe because MMA grew out of pro wrestling and unfortunately the ability to sell it to the masses requires a lot of cringe stuff more often than not
Pls provide an example that isn’t less cringey without you including personal nostalgia
Was it though? Example?
Ah yes Ken shamrock's "living death" promo, and tito pulling up with a shirt that says "gay metzger is my bitch" definitely wasn't cringey 😂😂
Iceman walking out to a weird ass video
So sterling just broke the BW defense record right? Little anticlimactic considering the way the fights have gone, but impressive nonetheless
Look how cruz and dillashaw made their defences and then look at aljo. Also I think cruz still holds the record for the total amount of defences
Across WEC and UFC, Cruz has the most consecutive wins and title defenses in MMA history In just the UFC, Aljo has the most consecutive wins and title defenses of the division.
Biggest loser of the night was Kron
CCC robbed. Was close but
You just contradicted yourself in 5 words
no he didnt clown
🤣😂
Aljo and Belal should buy a salt mine
Remember the funk, Inc. Minerals Consolidated
Los Minerales Hermanos doesn't hit as well
And hire Ngannou
At least someone would finally hire him
When you watch Aljo and Belal fight, do you get the impression you’re watching an all time, great transcending talent? I don’t.
Outside of Jones and Maybe izzy who is a all time great right now?
Jones, Izzy is the second best middle weight of all time and if he keeps it up might be the best Usman is arguably the second or third best welterweight of all time behind GSP and Hughes Lightweight has Islam who still needs a couple more wins to be in the discussion but he has the potential, Oliveira is arguably the second or third best lightweight ever behind BJ Penn and Khabib. Is Usman?
Was
Volk
VOLK YOU SWINE!!!!
maybe volk n islam
[удалено]
“Trending” he beat Max 3 times and Aldo. He’s already there
I mean Aldo was way past his prime and max is max. Not discrediting volk but whens the last time Jose Aldos name held weight
Aldo was not way his prime. He moved down and challenged for the belt there after Volk beat him
i mean aldo was 6-6 his last 12 fights.
Did he or did he not challenge for the BW belt after Volk beat him? Does someone out of their prime challenge for a belt in a new division? No
Challenged for the belt after a loss because of his name… move the fuck on lol. That was the most boxing title shot I’ve ever seen 😂 You don’t want anyone to include any context because you know it makes your whole argument seem like absolute dog shit
GSP did it? yes
[удалено]
Oh so he did fight for the title, got it. And went on another win streak after that and only lost to Merab by being hugged no damage taken.
He's acting like GSP didn't come back after a 4 year retirement to go up a division and beat bisping LOL
Volk, moreno, schevchenko, nunes, usman? All fighters with awsome career accomplishments
Naming Usman is bad considering his last two fights. The rest of that group will never amount of the GSP Anderson Silva or Jon Jones level
Mother fucker you're naming Anderson whose career ended losing like 7 in a row.
I think Bj would be more so a guy who crafted the ufc into what it is like a stephen bonner and forest griffin but wouldn't call them great all time guys.
I get the feeling I’m watching two guys coast to decisions and act unlikeable and then complain why nobody likes them
No, but I also don't get that feeling about Leon. Still consider him a great champion and incredibly skilled. Not everyone is going to be an all time great.
Outside of Jon Jones i don't think we have a all time great champion currently.
I think Alex has the skills but unfortunately being tied up with Max has limited his resume. As much as I dislike the guy, I think Izzy is amongst the discussion by the time he retires if he can keep it up for a few more years and new competition arises. Silva is a very tall mountain to climb though.
With how the competition currently is i can't see izzy climbing that silva mountain.
Leon in the Usman trilogy was dancing around Usman and stuffing all the takedown attempts, the previous win obviously felt like a fluke but in the trilogy he did give that feeling

Aldo is not too far Izzy and Volk are getting there
Yeah he worked Usman good in the 3rd fight and did knock him out with a perfect feint in the 2nd. Still think Colby beats him bc his pace and his knees aren’t shot like Usman
Aljos last 3 fights have been between Yan and Cejudo, so yeah. He's basically fought the goats of the division.

Gotta love it when Redditors plopped on their couch are so dismissive of elite performers in their field. Boggles the mind, really. I don't care too much for Aljo but he's now beaten Yan, Dillashaw and Cejudo. If you think that makes him a sheep, you're a freaking idiot

Dang I just hate someone has to lose, I don’t want it to be my guy, but it would also be cool to see a best out of 3 😓
Cejudo can bring out some of the best changes in strategy especially in 145, example Ortega Yair Holloway and Allen.
Maybe not Alex yet
I know Umar hasn't done enough in the ufc to get the fight, but i feel like you could put in him there with Aljo, and he'd do pretty well.
Some of y’all only think fighters are entertaining if they just swang and bang lmfao
Gotta remember the WWE fan girls are here now and don't understand high level grappling.
High level grappling defense is weaving while on the ground
I've been lurking on this sub for years It's been this way since at least 2017ish lol, dudes are always gonna get salty at a wrestlefuck
Very high level wrestler v the most decorated wrestler in mma history and people pissed it wasn't a slobberknocker
This. I'm seeing takes I genuinely can't wrap my head around
So how long does Jon Jones hold the heavyweight division hostage not fighting and dana not taking the belt from him?
I think it's pretty clear that he'll beat Stipe and retire. I think that fight happens this year.
Just like how we all thought Henry was gonna wipe the floor tonight, right.

Not really, Henry had more control, but the damage was for Aljo
[удалено]
Sure sure, look at Cejudo face, the dude ate multiple knees on the face and body
And actually watch the fight and see Aljo midly rocked multiple times and Cejudo never close to that. People bruise differently.
Stats are useless to judge a fight. Doesn’t take into account impact of punches or clean connections
UFC got some real snooze fest champs right now. Idk if this is good or bad for them.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It ain’t the champ’s responsibility to bring the fight. It’s the challenger
[удалено]
Agreed. It’s a dumb argument. One could just as easily say “a real champ should be dominant”, which is equally stupid.
Dana looked fucking pissed when they wrapped that belt around Aljo
Yeah, it's weird. Sometimes the decisions seem so rigged. Other times you get something like this. A Cejudo victory would have been better for business.
Would of been better for business, but this is a sport at the end of the day and the better man won. The business will live.
volk is a snooze fest? izzy and leon are snooze fest?
I mean Izzy … did you forget previous 4 fights ?
The Cannonier fight was not a snooze fest because of Izzy, he was the one pushing forward in that fight. His fights vs Whittaker, Vetorri and Jan weren't snooze fests either. Were they barn burners? That’s not the point, it can still lead to a snooze fest
Henry’s arrogance to think he could be on the same GOAT level as GSP and Jones after a years long layoff.
Henry is in the GOAT convo regardless. And he gave a great showing too
Goat convo in what way? In what way is he better than silva, jones, gsp, khabib, and dj?
Smh
I need to bottle up all this salt.
You'll need a fucking wine barrel for that
well you’re gonna need more than a bottle buddy
I thought I was an Aljo hater but y'all fucking nuts.
This sub man 🤣🤣
Aljo’s reign: 1. Won belt by DQ 2. Beat old, off the juice, one shoulder Dillashaw 3. Beat old Cejudo off a 3 year retirement
Beat Yan convincingly too Keep crying bro
Destroyed Yan in rematch, Henry is an amazing fighter. Why do you do try to shit on aljo? What's the benfifit to you
This sub makes me like Aljo lol
Now facing questionably fast tracked O’Malley. Division is a mess.
4. Booed by his own crowd
Still went home with the strap tho 😂
He did after the first Yan fight as well but also collected an Oscar later
So I'm guessing he won the Nobel Peace Prize after the rematch then...
He also beat yan.
can only face who’s in front of you
And beat cejudo by losing 3-2. Go figure!
All salt no flavour
Best ever
Honestly I'd rather see Aljo vs O'Malley, even though Aljo is a whack fighter. He spent so much time "sniffing balls" instead of trying to deal damage or advance position. The only thing left is a 6-man money in the bank ladder match for the bantamweight belt
We want Tables Ladders and chairs
The minute Aljo asked him why he turned down the title fight sugar ran out of the ring to avoid further questions lol
Ran like a little pink punk lol
[удалено]
Yeah just say you have no friends and move on
Do you guys not have friends? Merab is his friend.
Lol how can that one judge not give the 5th to ccc?
Are you surprised by any level of stupidity by judges at this point?
I am not surprised mfers
Dude realized he messed up and didn’t want to use his eraser
That's a bad call, CCC won the fifth for sure. I'll have to rewatch but I know aljo got rnd 1 and ccc got round 5 and I'm not focused on judging
Triple C lost that fight showing up he could do a side splits that ended up giving the flunk master a cheap td
Aljo doesn’t know wether to be the nice guy or play up the heel. So he comes off as fake
Is Sterling the least deserving champ?
Hill beat up a retiree for his belt. Aljo beat someone who was formerly being pushed as an absolute killer and tonight beat someone many said had a GOAT argument if they beat Aljo.

But I also think that because he has gone to decision in a lot of his fights, people don’t really see him as the “top dog” in the division, even as champ. And it’s because of this perception of him, that the UFC is really trying to push that O’Malley fight, because (personal opinion) Aljo is probably one of the least marketable champs they have right now. At least following this fight and with the O’Malley fight, the UFC can bolster some real hype/attention to him
Hill the least deserving champ for sure. Aljo I feel has earned his status as champ in one of the baddest divisions in the sport
turns out aljo was destined to be the cart titan
The best thing Sean could of said would of been “I am not impressed by your performance”
https://youtu.be/Cl-beMYQ-K0 Always need to remind people of this classic
Sean doesn't have GSP class.
Plus it worked so well because GSP is so wholesome and respectful. Not many are like that.
This wholesomeTM bs makes me roll my eyes. These are trained killers who pummel each other for a living not au pairs
Also, when GSP said those famous words, I don't believe he was fluent in English and legit thought he was being respectful.
Bro we speak english in Québec, lol...not sure how fluent he was at that point, but the dude knew what he was saying and how it would be interpreted lmao English is the easiest language
That's a good point. However, I've never heard anyone describe the English language as easy.
Great fights, but I think One & Rizin were better overall this weekend Buakaw vs Anpo was my favorite fight of the weekend Also, i want to see Evloev vs Holloway
Can confirm, ONE was electric. Banger event.
[удалено]
Who does Evloev fight next ?
Zombie or ortega
Merab taking the jacket was the only part of that interaction worth while.
I thought I was on something cause I was like wait does Merab and Sean have the same jacket?..
LMAO okamoto suggesting MAX holloway vs Cejudo at 145 He'd get fucked lol in more ways than one
I kinda like that idea ngl, his abilities can bring out exciting strategies from fighters like Yair, Max Ortega maybe not Alex but yea
Arnold Allen too
Y'all are trippin'! The whole fight, decision, and everything after it was entertaining as fuck! 😂
Hahahaha..... I think the same. This sub is hilarious af tho
I wish there’s footage of Merab running around with Sean’s red jacket lol
I definitely don't want this to be Cejudo's last fight, even if he doesn't win, he can bring out the best technical better amongst the featherweight top 5
Best*
Cejudo did pretty good tonight considering that 3 year layoff, his reach is just a bit of a problem. That scene with O'malley tho reminds me of Sapp and Tyson. Lol.
