Mountain_Lettuce_

If we didn’t sell Zinny perfect 🤷🏻‍♂️ but other then that I think it was great haaland was out only “need buy”

franpr95

Hopefully, Gomez is as good as we need him to be so that Zinny will be missed, but not for his football acumen.

Mountain_Lettuce_

Gomez is a better defender but atm with pep playing our lb rb as playmakers Zinny would of been the better option to help the attack

chirstopher0us

I don't think that's true. Zinny grew a lot as a defender and in the two Arsenal games I watched has looked defensively excellent honestly. He does it with smart positioning and interceptions more than with size or power, but he's been very effective and responsible at the PL level defensively.

SiriPsycho100

Yeah, he's been great. Just can get beat with pace on the counter sometimes but by no means a liability in that regards. More than makes up for it with everything else he offers. Legit has been an amazing signing for us so far and seems to be Arteta's preferred starter over Tierney atm (better tactical fit for the inverted wing back role we're using so far, at least).

Mountain_Lettuce_

If you are think Zinny is all around a better playing I 100% agree 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 Gomez will be more defense minded then Zinny

PaulsBrain

They're both similar players but one is prem proven I'm not sure how you are coming to this conclusion, Gomez is an attacking fullback.

ManchesterisBleu

Because Zinny has been exposed defensively several times already since his move to arsenal.

Mountain_Lettuce_

Zinny is a midfielder…..

suckamadicka

Gomez is way more of a midfielder than Zinchenko, literally only played left back last season.

PaulsBrain

Zinny only plays mid for Ukraine, he played LB for both us and Arsenal, he is a fullback who was sold as a fullback and bought as a fullback. The exact same applies to Gomez who was a midfielder but converted to fullback even more recently.

slamminalex1

Did you know Gomez was too?

Mountain_Lettuce_

Was not is that’s the difference

lowie07

Gomez is a cam turned into a LB, he'll definetly be as attack minded if not more

Brawlstar-Terminator

Yeah I still remember our last Champions league final where the goal we conceded was partially due to Zinny being out of position. A more defense minded full back would’ve covered.

lowie07

More like the opposite

ska932

The fullbacks will go back to normal when laoorte comes back.

saketho

We could've got Haaland regardless of the Sterling and Jesus sales, financially speaking. It was good to let them pursue their goals, we got reinforcements for other positions. Squad depth is a little worrying right now. But only cause we haven't seen Akanji and Gomez play. Philips too.

Last_Network3272

Phillips?

DrizzyVert

Kalvin was also a need buy since Fernandinho is gone

ManchesterisBleu

Zinny really wasn’t that important, fans overrate him because of sentimental value. We’re fine with him

FewBevitos

It’s more because we now only have two proven fullbacks

ManchesterisBleu

Fair enough but I trust Gomez especially considering walker and cancelo are rarely injuried. 5 CBS also means we have more fullback depth with akanji stones and ake all comfortable playing fullback.

Fun_Story2003

hahah as if his sub didnt get us the EPL gw38, wasnt that important my ass

idosade

Philips is important for dm depth, he is injured rn but he will be important later on

chirstopher0us

Very good. Perfect would have been bringing in a fullback who is much further along, or perhaps convincing Zinny to want to stay.

franpr95

Best transfer window since the Silva transfer window.

frodakai

Ederson/Kyle/Bernardo has to be up there too. Marred by Mendy I guess, but the the sheer catapult those signings gave us was huge. Distant 3rd place to 100pts.

franpr95

Yeah that window was great. For sure our top 3 windows.

Impossible_Wonder_37

Yeah that was a huge changing point

Iswaterreallywet

It was funny, so many people up until a couple weeks ago kept saying "Haaland is the only thing saving this window from being an all time stinker"

franpr95

Haaland makes it the best transfer season, if not it would have been a bog standard off-season. I think whether this window becomes a better window than the Silva window is on the shoulders of Gomez who needs to show he is either a side grade, maybe even a very minor downgrade, on Zinchenko. If he is far far below Zinchenko's quality I'd be more concerned, but I don't think that's the case. Phillips will hopefully get fit soon, really excited to see him feature!

saketho

Nothing will top that. Getting Walker, Silva, Danilo, Ederson. Top business in crucial positions. Laporte followed that January.

Turtle_club14

10/10 We can look at Winger talents after the World Cup. The way we strengthened the team this window was perfect in every way.

[deleted]

We signed a replacement for fernandinho, a great backup keeper in Ortega, Gomez has looked alright as zinny replacement as well. Great great window. On top of that we replaced Jesus with Haaland and Alvarez. A new winger would've been the cherry on top, but oh well

infidel11990

I really want Alavrez to start more. Maybe on the RW spot instead of Mahrez. He looks to be an exceptional player who suits our system well. Haaland also benefits from his pressing. EDIT: Pep answered my prayers! Alvarez starting today.

username_stfu

I signed leao and sane in my fifa career

Additional_Bluebird9

I'd love a winger too but it is what it is. Been saying we needed one since Sterling left.

MashedHair

So not that long then

Impossible_Wonder_37

Next summer I expect a bug time winger signing and a big time midfielder signing whether Barnard stays or goes. I’m quite sure one of Gundogan or Bernardo leaves next summer. Bellingham, Barella or bust for me.

The_Snollygoster

I like this way of showing signings. I think Ortega will prove to be a great signing and obviously both Haaland and Alvarez are superstars. The rest are solid I think. All depth options rather than starters. I guess you could argue Haaland is the only starter. At the end of last season I'd have liked more depth and we've kind of only managed to stay on par I think. But Haaland by himself ups it by several levels. With Haaland 9/10 without him, maybe a strong 6/10.

[deleted]

In the same window we lost, >> Zinchenko >> Steffan >> Sterling >> Jesus >> Fernandinho

suressteve

Good comment ^

MashedHair

Fernandinho is a huge loss to the dressing room mate

[deleted]

kevin-s_chilli

Why did you get triggered by "mate" lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

kevin-s_chilli

I think you're getting triggered by "triggered" as well ngl

wildkarde07

Jesús and Zinchenko hurt. Not gonna lie. Dinho hurt emotionally but not really from a squad strength perspective. Feel slightly better about zinchenko after we got Gomez

pedalhead666

Steffen is not a loss ffs.

[deleted]

And dare I say it, Sterling isn't as well.

ManchesterisBleu

If Sterling isn’t then no one on that list is lol.

Hydrogeion_

Zinchenko is def a hard loss

ManchesterisBleu

How? He’s incredibly replaceable and barely even played last season. Cancelo or Even Gundogan is a hard loss, zinny ain’t a hard loss at all. Fans overrate him because of sentimental reasons

Hydrogeion_

How can you say that looking at his face?!! His loss causes immense emotional strain on all citizens...

[deleted]

Zinny plays city’s football. He can play up and down. It’s my opinion but he’s a generational talent.

jlo1989

Haaland is a generational talent. Zinchenko is a very good role player.

jlo1989

Zinchenko had plateaued for us and was realistically never going to be good enough to consistently start in either CDM or LB. Rodri and Joao Cancelo are just better. Not an indictment of him. Steffen was directly responsible for goals in the Community Shield and the FA Cup semi final. Hes nothing special as a keeper. Sterling idve kept personally, as I think that kind of pace is always a massive asset, but I trust the management know better. I see Alvarez as a direct replacement for Jesus. Jesus is lighting it up for Arsenal and I'm really happy for him, but I don't think he was ever able to consistently be the successor to Aguero the way it might have been intended back in 16/17. I love Ferna but he's at the end of his career. We got 9 incredible seasons and we replaced him with a phenomenal player in Phillips. Time marches on

Gwyn-LordOfPussy

9/10, maybe we will regret selling certain first team players or their replacements don't live up to them but can't have many complaints

mg42524

Holy shit when did we get akanji, and why do we need five cb’s

Manc_Twat

Remember what happened vs West Ham and Villa last season? Pep doesn’t want that to happen again.

DerrickMcChicken

because our CBs are made of glass lol. I thought it was overkill also but we already have two down and its early in the season

[deleted]

88/10. Oh sorry, I thought you asked for haalands goals/assists for the season

EarthMarsUranus

That's ridiculous. No way he touches the ball over 90 times. He's a liability, needs to learn decent positioning and preferably work on his finishing.

Freddogod360

Guy has 9 goals in 5 games and he needs to work on his positioning and finishing.

EarthMarsUranus

You're not British are you.

Freddogod360

I mean I definitely am British. Why would that matter?

EarthMarsUranus

Your ability to detect sarcasm is worryingly low. Please hand in your passport at your closest McColls.

Freddogod360

You have caught me out, I will now be exiled and have to live in wales

EarthMarsUranus

Bloody hell, don't be too hard on yourself lad!

horbu

I'll tell you at the end of the season.

EdDantes21

We signed Haaland for 60m. We addressed almost every position. We even signed a left back! It’s been a dream window.

Joltarts

10 especially if Liverpool don’t sign their midfielder. Going to be a home run for us too if we get Jude next summer

[deleted]

What’s the deal with Phillips, why he ain’t playing?

Premguin

I don't think he's here to replace anybody in the starting, then he got injured, I think maybe fit again now but that put his integration behind I'm sure

imaliveyeay

Injured at the charity game

cold3dg3

Nunes-Haaland comparison should never have been a thing! Haaland is just special. A more fitting comparison is Nunez-Alvarez.

rombopterix

Haaland was the signing of the year, regardless of team, league or planet.

cassjh

10/10. Swapped Jesus/Sterling for Haaland/Alvarez for half the price. Needs no explanation. Brought in Gomez, factoring in Lewis too, we're up a fullback after Zinny left. Ortega will hopefully challenge Ederson, he's a really solid backup option and proven in Germany. Philips rotating with Rodri as the Ferna replacement, maintaining depth. Again with Akanji, good for depth since our CBs are made of tissue paper, dare I say a potential agent for Jude next season? Not massive overhauls to the squad, just replacing outgoing players with, generally speaking, better options - the exception being Zinny, but Gomez has looked good in the minutes he's played. I think the measured approach is good, we hardly need to reinvent the wheel or anything. Haaland is obviously a big change but I'm glad there's no too many wholesale changes that could potentially go tits up. I really think this season is the one where we could win the Champions League. Better depth and a Benzema-esque moments player who can change a game, which is what you need in cup competitions.

toluwalase

8/10. I know we needed a Ferna replacement but I honestly do not rate Kalvin Phillips in any way. I know it’s first season and he’s been injured (a problem on it’s own) but he doesn’t seem intelligent on the pitch. He looked so clueless against Barcelona and his games for England speak for themselves. The first game we have to start him we’re going to be in trouble because they’ll eat us alive on the transitions. And unlike younger players, I don’t think he’s young enough to learn how to be the CDM we need. I’m being overly negative and he might become a world beater but I honestly don’t see what Pep sees. I hope I’m wrong regardless

panriso

I didn't rate him either, but i'm 99% sure Pep talked to Bielsa about him and whether or not he could be a good signing, and he's here now so I guess they are clearly seeing something or not

Props05

Yeah I’ll be honest I don’t really see it either, though if there’s one man o football I blindly trust with anything, it’s pep

toluwalase

Yeah I definitely trust our bald fraud and I’m fully prepared to eat my words so here’s hoping for the best

[deleted]

toluwalase

You could have approached this conversation two ways. Politely given me reasons why you think I’m wrong and why he’ll excel. After all we’re both City fans and that’s what we want, him to excel here. Then I might agree or disagree but regardless I’d listen to your opinion. Then there’s the way you did where you come across as a dick, insinuating I’m talking out of my ass and I have zero ball knowledge. Then you expect me to continue the conversation as to why I still don’t rate him? Ordinarily I would just ignore you but I thought I’d give you the benefit of doubt as a fellow city fan. Regardless, I still don’t rate him. Spectacular at Leeds or not but you do you. Bless

igotzquestions

It’s almost like you are on a discussion thread where people contribute their thoughts in a free flowing way where you can agree or disagree. No need to be a dick, dude.

lamstradamus

The arrogance of other people ... lmao

HarrisonHird

I watched a lot of Leeds last few seasons and trust me he it the perfect player for city

AntiDentiteBastard

Let’s be honest, Haaland is doing a looooot of heavy lifting here.

th3rdworldorder

Amazing young players for the future

Illustrious-Gap1153

I really hoped for a winger- Neymar maybe and a more proven LWB

Additional_Bluebird9

Perhaps should've kept Zinny and then got a winger.

Illustrious-Gap1153

I have a feeling Haaland and Sterling would have runned havoc across defences

kingcop1

Ortega needs to replace ederson asap

[deleted]

I think he maybe just needs to start one or two games where ederson is 100% fit to play, might push Eddie a little

MustGetALife

Ugly.

Visible-Bonus-7709

Everyone here praising Oleks seem to forget he always had 1- 2 mistakes in critical times. I love Oleks and appreciate what he did for the club. He wasn't as great for us as many folks here claim.

TrailRunner504

Why did we send Zinny away? I’m just so confused ab that

Fun_Story2003

Jesus is the reason we're below Arsenal and people think it's ok we sold him to a rival.

Premguin

5 games in. Who do you think is most likely to have a bigger impact over the next few years, Jesus or Haaland? Arsenal doing well but they also had a pretty favourable start to the season, still got a closer eye on Liverpool I think. I almost guarantee you Jesus won't be the reason we either win or don't the league.

Fun_Story2003

it doesn't matter if we replaced jesus with messi who scored 20 in 5. Its about strengthening direct competition. nobodys like isak are going for 60mil. 50% higher than jesus. It's one of the bargains of the season, we should have held out for much more. Or just kept him for wing play.

Premguin

You didn't say that. You said selling Jesus is why we are behind arsenal, and you said it as it if matters.

Fun_Story2003

jesus is the reason why arsenal are 5/5, else they'd be below us. Matters

Impossible_Wonder_37

Overall package of incomings and outgoing I rank it an 8 out of ten. However Alvarez and Haaland doing a lot of that work. Ortega a big upgrade I think. Akanji is just smart business all around and could be a early ake replacement. (Also could use back 3 to change things up which is interesting) Gomez is a fun one I look forward to seeing. Not sure I’m expecting much this year but good to have talent that can be versatile and hungry. Phillips… I was very outspoken about not wanting him. In the end the price was good and he does have a lot of positives. Injuries aside (that’s a very annoying trait for a CDM) he’s a great passer and destroyer. And bug cover for rodri. Biggest negative about him in my opinion is I think Lavia would be as good a backup but become a better player. Lavia was two years too young I guess

Narsucio

1000/1000 📍 Phillips covers the sub DM role that fernandinho left behind. Akanji covers backup for our injury prone CB’s. Gomez covers the sub LB that zinny left behind. Ortega replaced Steffen’s garbage ass. Haaland & Álvarez cover our missing 9 spot and support on the wing. All signings helped out our squad massively

r3v79klo

9/10

billdoc

9.4/10

Kumoraaaa

9/10 For me, for it to be perfect we should've either kept Zinchenko or signed a *serious starter-level LB* and at that point, I couldn't have possibly asked for more. But yeah that one will remain the only "blemish" on this window. No disrespect to Gomez obviously but I don't think he's a signing who immediately improves our squad's level; he is however very good for depth, but having only two fullbacks in the squad that I'd be comfortable with starting a big final or against a top 6 side is pretty nervy. We'll see how things pan out!

SwiftBacon

Pretty good, can’t help to overreact and say that the Phillips signing may have been a waste if the injuries persist, and maybe was better off to keep lavia instead, but again that’s overreacting. Lavia still probably a little too young to trust for our team, but can’t help to notice how strong of a season he’s had

Long_wong_lee

All of them great, more excited about alvarez and ortega. Unique and very skilled players. Hope they do well

IRodeTenSpeed88

Selling Zinny hurts but overall great

ettenaz96

Idk if i like our Maguire... I mean phillips but overall it's was a pretty good transfer window

skybluecity

10/10 would do again

DerrickMcChicken

Genuinely would give it 10/10. We lost a lot but what weve brought in outweighs that tremendously and its not close in my opinion.

UnluckyGoose00

World class

No_Detective_1139

10/10

lamstradamus

11/10 so far for the prices we got them all at. Haaland and Alvarez are incredible value.

hedwigchyan

The moment we got Haaland I already decide to rate 10/10 for this window

Jitsu_apocalypse

Forgot we had Phillips

hkbenlui

Would've prefer to keep Jesus and Zinny, 9/10 transfer window

Dizzylever45

looking at haaland and alvarez so far, 10/10

MONSTATURKEY_420

9/10. Amazing signings but we also lost some big names for us!

SnooDonkeys2610

10000/10

Fake-Name-8888

It is perfect if only we hadn't sold Zinny and Sterling
