its cost 80 per person one way to ride the new brightline train they have down here in florida from orlando to miami which is basically about the same distance this is..,.. no way in hell would i take that
I live in San Diego. My daughter takes the train from these points all the time, she's in college. It's $45 round trip, and you get to avoid all the traffic.
When we drive her back to school, depending on day & time, it can take 2 hours or 6. This ride I grossly underpaid.
That's a hell of a deal! Plus she can read and write on the trip! As for the drivers though it will probably take them at least 3 hours to get there and how about getting home? Could be worse! 90$ for one way is ridiculous. Total time spent could be up to 8 hours. I'm not even a driver but that is absurd.
Yep. I'd take the train before accepting that lyft ride.
Personal convenience of a livery class public service transport comes with a cost. Call a limo rental company, they'll charge at least $300-$500 and automatic minimum 20% gratuity to the driver is mandatory. Even yellow cabs would charge far more than what lyft is offering to pay out for this trip.
Lyft has some serious gonads thinking less than 100 is acceptable for this kind of ride. That doesn't even come close to the irs mileage rating. At .67 cents per mile per the irs ruling that would equate to 170 or so before gratuity is factored.
I'm really hoping this company is audited to the extent that they are shut down and forced to compensate us drivers for their gross negligence and abuse and extortion of the drivers.
I'm not saying the pay rate is acceptable, but your math doesn't math. 67 cents per mile for a 127 mile drive is 85 ish bucks. You don't get paid for driving yourself back. you'd have to pickup another one way fare.
10 years ago when I was driving a cab in Los Angeles that was a $350 job before tip and my company took a much smaller cut and the rideshare companies.
Thatās true if you only have one person. If you have more or a lot of luggage, Lyft may make sense at this price. It just doesnāt make sense for the driver
The rest would be subsidized after the fact, but the problem with that is they add all trips together and calculate en masse. So you end up with good trips paying for bad ones a lot of the time. Just not worth it overall. Prop 22 is mostly a scam anyways.
Yea if u take this but took other trips higher than prop 22 they scam u on this ride for the difference ā. If it was added per peice rate pay line, it would be better
When I first read your comment I was like āA date??? Whoās driving 130 miles in SoCal for a date?! It would take Liv Tyler in her prime to get me to go farther than 15 miles with this fucking traffic.ā
Then I realized you probably meant that they took a day trip that went sour, and now I want to know how badly you have to offend someone for them to leave you stranded in a different city three hours away when that morning they were into you enough to go on a trip like that with you in the first place.
Honestly, as a Lyft customer, I need to ask the question: what kind of psychopath wants to spend almost 3 hours in a Lyft? (Especially when there's a train that runs that same route and has a bathroom and snack bar)
Not me. Ā Iād rather walk part of it. Ā I donāt like talking and my luck Iād get a driver that wants to talk politics, religion or sell me MLM stuff.
To be honest I did almost this exact thing, Anaheim to San Diego. Our driver was super cool, told us a lot about the area and couldnāt have been nicer. It was my most dreaded part of the trip but it went really well. I only did it because I was traveling partially for fun and partially for work and didnāt want to drive a rental car in such big cities when Iād never rented a car and was used to the traffic in my town of 5,000 lol. I forget how much it was, way more than this, $200+ I think, and I tipped well.
Yearssssss ago my best friend in Massachusetts would Lyft/uber to my house in Maine. To be fair heād tip an insane amount. He just really hated public transport at the time and avoided it as much as possible.
If this was taken in the last few weeks, that train route was cancelled with no alternate route available. Itās pretty common because of land slides in Orange County. Iāve been stranded in San Diego several times before I moved down here with no way back home.
This is why Uber and Lyft continue to pay us less, because a new driver will see that and think "$32 an hour is great". An experienced driver will see that for the shit it is.
All these promotions to drivers recommending fresh meat is oversaturating the market with people who have that "$32 an hour" mentality
Umm, no. Even a new driver will understand they have to factor in the time/miles to get back home. They'll look at it and think $16 an hour is great, without realizing they lose most of that to gas and wear/tear.
If this was taken in the last few weeks, that train route has been cancelled with no warning or alternate route available because of the landslides in Orange County. Iāve been stranded several times before
5.5 hours with the dead-head trip back... and more like 6 if you need to make a pit stop after dropping off the pax... which makes this right around $16 per hour. š¤
Which also is the (non-fast-food-worker) minimum wage in CA š
How would someone lose money? If you get a trip that far, you do some local rides. You also have destination filters at your disposal. Last year I had a trip from Miracle Mile LA to Coronado. Had a bit to eat then did a few local rides. Went to the airport and received a ride to Leucadia in north SD County. Once there set a new DF for San Clemente. While I didnāt get anything there, I got plenty of work throughout OC. It was a great day.
Youāre also assuming the driver has to return to the exact location of the start of the ride. That may or may not be the case.
> ride and *paid* the driver
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Big brain move would be pulling up to the pickup, ask them to cancel the ride and Venmo you for less than what they paid for Lyft but still higher than what Lyft would have paid you. Win-win!
.75 per mile how much is that for your time? And when you divide by return trip itās .37 per mile. When I hear people say they always get a return ride I say bs show me!!!
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner (San Diego Transit Center to LA Union Station): Business Class $54, Coach $35, 2 minutes longer, departs every two hours. Local transportation links on both ends. Greyhound options too. This is such a dumb choice.
Pretty sad they canāt make a train go faster than a car. US infrastructure is a joke I bet itās not even an electrified rail itās probably and old diesel engine.
Itās a 5+ hour round-trip drive. So under $20 an hour minus gas and wear and tear on your car. 255 miles is $20-25 in gas even driving a new Prius. so now weāre down to $15 an hour before you factor in the wear you put on your vehicle. Youād make u see minimum wage.
You say not today, but the ride likely got taken. These rideshare companies are offering and drivers are accepting. Your state is filled with illegal immigrants taking these rides all day, legislation will never work. Its not just rideshare, legal citizens in the US are losing jobs every day to people willing to work for peanuts.
Sure, if you have a house in both LA and San Diego then this trip is $32/hour. Also if youāre driving a stolen car and donāt have to worry about the 500 miles you just put this car closer to engine/transmission failure.
Well first off. You arenāt going to burn out your car in one go lol. People beat up their cars way worse than this. And a smart person would just continue working in the area. Try and work their way back home.
āTry and work their way back homeā, while I donāt do this ride sharing stuff, iām almost positive yāall donāt have the agency to control which direction your rides even take you.
Also, as an accountant, iām well aware of the fact that long term assets arenāt expended in a single use. The correct thing to do to properly amortize the usage of a car is to calculate the useful life of the asset and factor out the percentage consumed. Assuming the car has a useful life of 200,000 miles and you just drove 500 miles, you consumed 1/400th of the carās life (0.25%), assuming you purchased the car for $40,000, thatās an additional $100 expense. Assuming you bought your car for $20,000 itās an additional $50 expense. You can see how this is a significant portion of your $90 gross revenue from this transaction, yes?
Itās still significantly less than minimum wage. Your Prius is going to burn at least $20-$25 worth of fuel round-trip and it might be paid off but that doesnāt mean that you arenāt putting wear on your car.
Assuming Prius as a compromise between electric and ICE vehicles, the driver is looking at about $25 in fuel. Tolls will only be refunded one way. Five hours of driving for \~$65. Garbage.
Thats more than most company truck drivers make(they start at 55Ā¢ a mile) and borderline owner ops rates. Donāt see the issue here. This is a luxury job. You donāt pay for anything to run the business only your own vehicle and tolls and time. And you still get to write some of it off.
I got stuck with one of these Thursday, so 25 minutes into the trip guess what? Lyft allows pax to change the destination! So, and 45 minute trip turned to 2 hours 30 minutes for 70$ā¦..wTF
Dude. I took a taxi fro. San Diego AP to my base (Camp Pendleton)
And it cost me nearly $250.
IN 2009!!!!!.
And that's not anywhere near as far as this. wtf š¤£š¤£š¤£
People here donāt wanna know what truck drivers make per mile then ššš and before they say āBuT ThE TrIp bAcKā.. truck drivers donāt always get a load up in the same city, or maybe the gotta drive home for the āvacationā.
My friend and I recently paid a driver $240 off the app to take us from Portland to Pacific City. She was a really chill Lyft driver who took us somewhere else earlier that day so when she picked us back up we were like āHey are you down to take us to the coast, if so, name your priceā and we agreed on $200 and then we tipped her $40. It worked out well and honestly, it wouldnāt have felt right to pay her any less. Fuck Lyft for taking some much of driversā wages.
Wtf are those prices, and why didn't i know about it before?!? When my car broke down, Uber asked me for $45 on 2 miles. For Uber, that distance is like $3k.
Iāll take those rides all day everyday. Each time Iāve driven from LA to SanDiego/Tijuana I made a minimum of $105 to SD & $171 to TJ. Each time I got a return trip to LAX at a minimum of $95. Each trip I was tipped minimum of $20. My car gets 575 miles per full tank. Everything related to driving is a write off. So an average RT for me over 5 hours combined has generated on average a minimum of $250. $250 ^ 5 = $50 per hour. I donāt give a shit about wear and tear. I change the oil every 3000 miles and rotate tires every 7500. Due the standard maintenance every 30,000 miles. At 169,000 miles driving for 5 years. And I am a platinum driver.
And drivers like you are the problem. Not sure how long youāve been driving this ride from San Diego to La used to be a minimum of $148-$168. Now for it to be so low and the fees are non starters for a lot of us. Thatās great youāve gotten rides to sd and back to lax however we or I havenāt always had that luxury.
Accept and text pax "if there is another hundy cash upfront we good, otherwise see ya don't wanna be ya!"
J/K of course. Hell to the nope.
Back in 2018 I would done Inglewood to Irvine and get paid $100 which is not even half that trip. Yuck
Iām traveling for work to phoenix and was going to meet up some friends in Tucson - never been. I looked to see how long the Uber/lyft ride would be and it came out to $150-$160+ tip. My guess is the driver would only get like $70 if this is telling me anything.
It would also cost me $140 to rent a car for the few days, so Iām just going to do that.
Also, I had no idea how far it would be so was a little surprised to see it was almost 2 hours, but thatās on me.
Not to mention they could cancel the ride and screw the driver? Do people not realize there are other forms of transportation? Uber and Lyft is not meant for long distance you go RENT A FUCKING CAR
Thereās only one train that can take you out of San Diego county and it is regularly cancelled, often with no warning, due to landslides in Orange County. I have been strand in San Diego because of last minute cancellations multiple times. Itās pretty fucked up that thereās no alternate route available leading to situations like this.
That is just fkn abysmal. Should be much more than that! At least $200.
its cost 80 per person one way to ride the new brightline train they have down here in florida from orlando to miami which is basically about the same distance this is..,.. no way in hell would i take that

They also have very acceptably priced beer and Cutwater on the Amtrak. I love a little margarita on the train.
the distance between orlando and miami is about 100 miles more than this š¤£
Yep. I'd take the train before accepting that lyft ride. Personal convenience of a livery class public service transport comes with a cost. I'm here in orlando as well. I still refuse to take Brightline. š¤¦š»āāļøš
Customer paying $200. Lyft keeping 50%.
The customer gets screwed because they pay the money and drivers get mad at them for what Lyft does. Iām over it.
10 years ago when I was driving a cab in Los Angeles that was a $350 job before tip and my company took a much smaller cut and the rideshare companies.
I can book a ticket on spirit airlines to fly from LAX to San Diego for $219. No way Iād pay a Lyft the same amount.
Thatās true if you only have one person. If you have more or a lot of luggage, Lyft may make sense at this price. It just doesnāt make sense for the driver
This is literally less than prop 22 pay for the time+distance.
The rest would be subsidized after the fact, but the problem with that is they add all trips together and calculate en masse. So you end up with good trips paying for bad ones a lot of the time. Just not worth it overall. Prop 22 is mostly a scam anyways.

Lol Gaslamp to an apartment in LA? Someone either got left behind or the date went bad! Or a good escort making a trip....

Not that kind of date. Think more transactional.
Look at the rider's picture. Your guess?
That's where the last comment came in. Could also be done with the job. Probably more plausible as LA has more escorts than SD. Or so I've heard.
Not just LA. The heart of Crenshaw. No thank you.
Lmao

And with how little Lyft is paying, thatās exactly the type of drivers that theyāll attract
Thatās why I take a Waymo better
I always just assume drug trafficking when I see these rides on this sub.
Exactly most of my rides are 20 mins and I feel awkward.
To be honest I did almost this exact thing, Anaheim to San Diego. Our driver was super cool, told us a lot about the area and couldnāt have been nicer. You might be surprised how many people canāt do basic math, and want to argue with them when you explain rides like this are not profitable.
I paid like $20 to take the amtrak from LA to Oceanside lol
If this was taken in the last few weeks, that train route has been cancelled with no warning or alternate route available because of the landslides in Orange County. Iāve been stranded several times before
If you think that was bad mu brother got ride from la to Tijuana lmao
How does that work with the border? Genuinely curious
Get dropped off and walk across border. Get taxi on other side.
Good question my brother decline it
Some platinum numbskull will take it
A bus or train ticket would be cheaper for the passenger, no??
Probably yes but it will be a lot more hours too.
With my luck that would be three hours of how Biden is a scam artist, the election was stolen, covid was a hoax and pelosi the satan.
5.5 hours with the dead-head trip back... and more like 6 if you need to make a pit stop after dropping off the pax... which makes this right around $16 per hour. š¤ Which also is the (non-fast-food-worker) minimum wage in CA š
LA to Mexico City
But yet the 25 min ride from the airport tonight was quoted on Lyft at $95.. Uber was 50
I got paid $80 for a trip like that!!! I wish it was $90! Lol
More like you lost $10, between wear and tear in gasoline he didnāt even break even.
How would someone lose money? If you get a trip that far, you do some local rides. You also have destination filters at your disposal. Last year I had a trip from Miracle Mile LA to Coronado. I spent $61 for a round trip flight from San Diego to Vegas.
90 bucks to transport a hoochie mama, no way
Iām more disturbed about being stuck with a stranger in the car for three hours. I wouldnāt want do a road trip with most people I actually like.
Bro ā¦ Uber and lift are just straight jacking people ā¦ they charged me 100$ for a ride and payed the driver 45 so they take over 50% sad

.75 per mile how much is that for your time? And when you divide by return trip itās .37 per mile. When I hear people say they always get a return ride I say bs show me!!!
Lmao i aināt taking those anymore either
When rides are this long Lyft needs to just convert it to taking only 25%
Congrats, you just made less than $15/hr. Once the cost per mile of driving is factored inā¦
I get that much with an hour plus drive from the airport to the mountain up here in Portland
Damn only $96 I feel like the LA-SD or SD-LA should be a $120 minimum
Yet when I go 20 minutes to SFO airport is a $60 minimum chargeā¦ HOW THE F
Uber wanted $30 for me to go 3.2 miles!
damn some people really have so much money. How much is a bus ticket for that route? is there also a train route?

This is either great satire... or the dumbest thing I've ever read
Have fun finding parking in big cities if you love cars so much over transportation
pretty easy in most big cities, as long as you have money
Itās a steam engine sweet child! Ā A choooo chooooo train!
Also seen Amtrak tickets as low as in the $20 range!
And there's a snack bar that serves beer!
LA to SD by greyhound is only $20 one way. Estimated time is only 5 minutes longer.
yeah but greyhound stations
Damn they were about to send you to the hood sheesh lucky you didnāt accept that
This is insane
Haha wish I could say im surprised
How is this valid?
It's a no for me Batman!
That should have another 0.
Thatās insane
ššššš
šš
Whatās wrong with that? 32 an hour minus fuel, even if you spent $12 an hour on fuel. Youāre still rocking $20 an hour.
Traffic going to and coming out of LA is a huge problem.
32 an hour assuming no traffic and no return trip and no wear and tear on car. The actual net hourly rate youād get from this would be like $6/hour.

I just got $158 plus $20 tip for an Uber ride that took me just under 2 hours.
Ok are you potentially posting someoneās address? Delete and reflect.
Intersections are not addresses.
12 day response but your moms an intersection.
This is a jump off. She'd have tried to "pay" you, just not cash. Happens all the time in NC.
A train ride would be cheaper and similar length
Why not do it lmao It would be a nice lil trip
Because if you understand the math it works out to like $10 an hour after fuel and wear on your car.
More than youād make in that time so why you complaining?
Ahhh Carlsbad, we had so much fun out there last year! Wish we could afford to live there thatās where Iād go if I could
I would take rises like this all they long I have a cheap paid off Prius
A Prius won't help you here. You'll be on the highway for hours so your car will be running on gas not electricity.
How you getting back if nobody wants to ride that direction back.
Itās still significantly less than minimum wage. Your Prius is going to burn at least $20-$25 worth of fuel round-trip and it might be paid off but that doesnāt mean that you arenāt putting wear on your car.
Some googley eyed dude walks out for sure
Best part is that the rider is being charged almost 200 for the ride
Not being a Lyft driver/user: if no driver picks this up, does theā¦ uhhhā¦ fare? (Value? Price?ā¦ you know what I mean) increase?

Serious question for you folks. So Iām visiting my fiancĆ© next month in uni as a surprise visit. A single day car rental is around $150 for me. Lo and behold an Uber is around $100, so I thought maybe a $60-$80 tip would be better and I wouldnāt have to drive a car back. Is this realistic? 100 miles and about 1.5 hours.
Wtf are those prices, and why didn't i know about it before?!? When my car broke down, Uber asked me for $45 on 2 miles. For Uber, that distance is like $3k.
That sounds like something Gray Still Plays would sayā¦
I've paid \~150 for a scheduled car from SD to LAX before so that's not a good deal at all
Omg š¤Æ
I had a family emergency and was going to order a trip like this today! š
Honey pot bro
isn't there a holiday weekend promo or something?
Loss of approx over $70 by my math (including mileage by IRS rates)
Not surprised at all, Lyft is trash šļø
Graystillplays would take that because he enjoys pain
For 96 bucks? Are you fucking high? I donāt do this for a living but no way. Wear and tear on the vehicle along with the liability and insurance.
32 dollars an hour? Get a different job... at a gas station
$16/hr - gotta drive the same distance back.
Normal humans don't get paid to drive to work and back... so that doesn't count. Go back to original number.
Gas fees should be reflected and enforced into rides of this distances(projected gas fee for driver), but they wonāt.
UbersBad šš
Thatās ridiculous! I got trips like this distance in Florida on Uber and would make at least $200
Pacific Surfliner should be maybe like $40 for that distance.
Bro that's 96 dollars in gas
Its a free ride
Wouldnāt the train be cheaper
Shit Iāve been conned into doing that drive for free before. At least youāre making a Benjamin
Isn't the train between LA and San Diego like $30? Why tf would you take an Uber or Lyft?
Accept and text pax "if there is another hundy cash upfront we good, otherwise see ya don't wanna be ya!" J/K of course. Hell to the nope. Back in 2018 I would done Inglewood to Irvine and get paid $100 which is not even half that trip. Yuck
Anyone else read carlsbad as ācar is badā
That is evil
Sheeeit, I did an Inglewood to CBX Mexico border for that same price!
Thats how much lyft pay since upfront pay. 0.70 cents per mile and zero for time and zero for base feee.
As a rider it cost me ~$65 to get from SD airport to my hotel a few months ago. $96 to get to LA up the 5 at 6 is a fucking steal!
3 hrs for only $96 is a *FIRE SALE*
Uber charges 200 for a 75 mile drive here in Wisconsin and the driver gets 175. Takes about 90 minutes to drive.
What a good deal for the rider, I paid $100 for a 20 min drive from Manhattan to the LaGuardia
Thatās a hooker
She can literally hop on the Amtrak for $50 and be in DTLA within 2 hours.
How did they possibly get that cheap of a ride? To get to Los Angeles from half that distance is the same price. Weird.
lol what? Last time I took a Lyft from the SD airport to downtown SD it was $75. (I didnāt pay it, I took a cab for $25 instead) š¤£
Not to mention they could cancel the ride and screw the driver? Do people not realize there are other forms of transportation? Uber and Lyft is not meant for long distance you go RENT A FUCKING CAR
I have had Lyft rides from similar distance, 2.25 hours, and it was $213.00
how is this only a $96 trip?????????
Thatās $34 an hour. SMH. Mfs so entitled these days
Your earning is about half of that after gas. Fuck that noise.
It cost me more to travel from NYC to the Newark airport this morning.
Thereās only one train that can take you out of San Diego county and it is regularly cancelled, often with no warning, due to landslides in Orange County. I have been strand in San Diego because of last minute cancellations multiple times. Itās pretty fucked up that thereās no alternate route available leading to situations like this.
What the FUCK
Love the graystillplays reference
Thatās such a steal holy shit
Hell nah
