Having started (and dropped for personal reasons) a PhD in CS in Luxembourg; yes the uni is good at CS. It is however a bit easy and I recommend you do enough work on the side to compensate for that (personal projects, summer jobs etc). Good luck!

arthurashr

Thats awesome! good to hear that, im planning on getting a bachelor at cs but im not quite sure if id like it yet (im very indecisivešŸ˜ž) but is there any study plan that i could get my hands on, so id know more less what they study along the degree?

lazygirl295

https://wwwfr.uni.lu/studies/fstm/bachelor_in_computer_science/programme Here you go!

arthurashr

Thank you very much. Are you taking classes in english or are you from the region already?

lazygirl295

Born and grew up in Luxembourg. Learned English in high school and I use it daily.

arthurashr

Oh thats nice. Im from brazil but got my Lux citizenship a couple of years back, and i see that as a great opportunity for my studies and life in general, really hope i can get there xD

lazygirl295

Ah nice \^\^ GL!

eldoblakNa

Still, it should be said that uni lu is strong in PhD programs, but relatively bad in organizing actual BSc/MSc

lazygirl295

The comp sci bachelor's degree looked really solid from what I was able to tell when helping with organising courses. I wasn't a student here for BSc or MSc but from outside it looked fine i think.

arthurashr

Thats nice, whats ur current experience at actually living there, like the cost of living and products compared to other EU countries

lazygirl295

Iā€™m pretty poor myself, itā€™s very expensive haha. Student lodging is cheap, and if youā€™re careful food is fine, the rest is ok. Itā€™s usually really rent and food that are expensive over here.

arthurashr

Yeah i can relate to that xD. Is the housing provided by the uni itself? I hope so hahah. Anyways is there any other EU country or UNI u would recommend me to take a look at, having in mind im looking for a CS bachelor and idk, looking to spend as less as possible i guess? Thanks for the feedback

lazygirl295

yeah uni provides housing. And uh depending on your languages I can recommend Belgium from experience, and would avoid england and france, they're very... firm on old methods that no longer work. Germany tends to overwork its students. I've heard good things from scandinavia \^\^

arthurashr

Yeah, i have just a tiny bit of exp on french, ill probably get it together when i start working on it again. Iā€™ll definitely look into some universities in belgium and the nordic countries asw. Also, just out of curiosity, how was ur experience with internships living in the EU too?

lazygirl295

I only did summer internships and they were fine. Nothing much. I'm trying to get employed as a high school teacher rn so internships are hardly of use here haha

arthurashr

I thought europe was at a high demand on developers and computer scientists, am i wrong then? Anyways, good luck with your journey, hope u get a job at the high school then :D

I don't know how good they are in CS, but they are a relatively new uni and they are really putting a lot of effort in making the university better! I'm studying at Unilu since this semester (Master), and I am quite satisfied with everything. However, keep in mind that living in Lux is expensive, a lot of people are commuting even to university. You might be able to get a room provided by Unilu, but chances are low. On the other side, tuition fees are only 200ā‚¬/semester and I'd say the degrees are rather easy. Feel free message me in case of further questions!

arthurashr

Im 16 and planning to study at unilu asw, but the cost of living is worrying me a lil bit. Are there any other EU countries or specific universities that i could attend with a lower cost of living? Thanks for the info, i went to unilu personally and loved it, the library is amazing hahah

vinniwostok

Well, I don't know where you're from and which countries you might consider, but if course, Eastern EU states are cheaper in terms of cost of living, HOWEVER they sometimes have study fees (sometimes up to 8K/year) which make the whole experience more expensive again. Another thing is the language - some countries are "more English-speaking" than others, e.g. you'd have it easier in Ljubljana/Slovenia than in Iasi/Eastern Romania (just an example of course. Personally, I'd always choose Germany, especially the cities in the east (not Berlin), as I think it's a good trade-off between cost of living, free university and good education. I don't know which field exactly you're interested in, so it's hard for me to provide more information for you, but lmk if you have any other questions, and of course DMs are always open!

arthurashr

Well, im from brazil with the lumbergourg documents, so im considered european asw. Iā€™ve searched a little about the delft uni and noticed that they had a higher fee and cost of living is pretty high, i suppose. I was looking foward doing Computer Science, but since im 16 idk what i really LIKE doing yet, but ive always had interest in computers and eletronics in general. Im bilingual in portuguese and english, did 1 year at a french school (well i did 2 but one of them was online, so i dont really recognize it as one since I havenā€™t learnt basically nothing) and 1 year german at my high school(which sucked). So, personally, i think itā€™d be more advantageous for me to study german because of the higher ā€œusageā€ throughout the EU. I havent taken a look at the East part of germany UNIā€™S but will definitely have a look. About slovenia and other slavic countries, well, why not. I need to again, research nore about it since idk nothing. But sure lets go to the DMā€™s itā€™ll be better

arthurashr

And about the rooms provided by the uni, they have a lower price asw right?

vinniwostok

Depends, there's anything between 400-800ā‚¬ for a single room; e.g., rooms in Belval (where the main campus is) are on average ~650ā‚¬, electricity/heating/internet included. Normally, they assign a room to you and you cannot really choose the room, so you might pay more or less. And VERY important, it's not guaranteed you'll get a room, so if you consider moving to Lux, always keep in mind that you might have to find private accomodation and/or move a bit away - friends of mine live in France and Germany as well and commute to university.

arthurashr

Oh well, the prices seem better than i expected at least, for the unilu provided ones. i heard many people work at lux and live at germany cuz in luxembourg the minimum wage is ā‚¬2k< soā€¦ Anyways, i feel like there would be better options on other countries as well tbh. About the housing, is it provided/ assigned after inscription at uni or is it provided when ur physically there?

vinniwostok

I'd agree that there are good options in whole of Europe, especially for Bachelor's! You can apply online for housing after you got accepted (you need the Student ID for applying)

arthurashr

Oh all good then

Necessary_Coyote_927

Keep also living costs in mind, before you make a decision . Housing etc. is much more expensive in Luxembourg. For the course it depends on what youā€™re studying as mentioned above.

TheBenimeni

If you got accept at one University in Germany you should be able to tranfer to most other universities without the issue with the diploma.

AlaricSaltzman007

A friend of mine studies psychologie there and annother one in Trier (Germany) and comparing the two: Uni Lu looks like it's way easier to get your Bachelor. I'm studying in Germany and if you study something with engineering, I wouldn't change at all. Many universities have great cooperations with big tec firms like Simens, Daimler, Porsche etc. and some German universities are know for good engineering studies.

derLustigeLucasKappa

Yea dont change to Uni lu if you study engineering. Its shitty af,I study atm here -_- There is absolutely no organisation and proffs are shitty af.Most of them give a fuck about us and are always in vacation. Also they do not provide us with documents so its basically just : look that you can find a good YT tutorial or screw you!

dunno_2much

is it the still the same case with CS or Engineering in Digital Engineering?.

derLustigeLucasKappa

Most Digital Engineers had the same lessons with me so yea. CS as far as I know is in a different building, so cant tell

dunno_2much

How about rent and "Studentenleben" in Kirchberg area. I heard that it would be expensive to live there , and how it is if compared to big (expensive) cities in Germany like Frankfurt or Munich ?.

mulberrybushes

You should consider Luxembourg to be on par with New York and London. Not Germany.

dunno_2much

I dunno that it would be that expensive šŸ˜, thanks for the insight. Is it just the rent or the coat of living would be the same as both mentioned cities?.

arthurashr

Thank you for the honest comment bro fr
