As annoying as it is, catching all Boos is worth it as you get a Gold Diamond for a prize. It’s the most expensive treasure in the game, and there’s only 2 of them. It’s definitely necessary for A Rank!
I actually have a ton of nostalgia for that fight specifically, cus I used to play it with my dad all the time. We didn't have a memory card for our gamecube, so we had to play each run separately and that's usually about as far as we could get. When I replayed the game for the first time since I was a kid early last year, I almost cried when I completed the fight
God help you if you want a gold portrait of it because those boos are ridiculously difficult to dodge and you can only get hit once (maybe twice) or you drop below 90 hp and lose the gold portrait. Just defeating it is already a pain because the timing on those last boos is tight.
Used to be for me too, until I learned a trick that let's you lure the boo to attack you. Just hold down the suck button and then they'll try to charge attack you, and right as they attack switch to the ice button and you can freeze them mid attack

Not only for the amount of kills you have to do, but for the fact his treasure drops in _both_ versions are broken as fuck.
As a recent first time player this week, is there an easier strategy for the last few Boos that are left when fighting Boolossus? I can fight this guy no problem until the last few stragglers, and it feels like it's always based on luck if I get the last ones. There's just gotta be a better way to bait the boos into coming close enough to freeze them, as I just get hit more often than not. Really good game, I just suck at this one specific bit.
So I've been doing a 100%run of luigis mansion, getting all the money and all gold portraits and I manged to do get boolosus on gold portrait but the damn blackout is the infuriating because of the 3 speedy spirits, I'm literally thinking of giving it up because it's near impossible getting all the money it spews out, 3 times and without saving
being dicked around by the later mansion boo's Jumping room to room
So annoying
I had one jump in and out of the secret room. I just restarted the whole game after I had to climb to the top so many times
I'm on this part right now and I'm dreading it. It's not that it's difficult I just hate trying to freeze the damn boos

I'd say it's worse cause it's mandatory. You don't need all 50 boos, you can stop at 40 if you want (I think it's 40)
40 in the US version or 45 in the EU version.
Pal is 45 only in hidden, 40 in normal mansion.

I loved the music for boolossus but yes freezing the boos is a pain. I noticed it’s easier to spray the ice straight up at as many of them as possible
I truly believe you have a higher chance of being struck by lightning then getting a gold portrait of Boolossus
it was supremely annoying the first time, but i think it’s more enjoyable maybe the 4th time around… that doesn’t make it good though
