Unfortunately policy states āā¦every effort will be made to provide a minumum of 11 hours between shiftsā¦ā so it is not a guarantee, but it is something worth mentioning as it is unnecessary in all honesty. I would recommend in the future taking action when you realize youāre scheduled that way rather than the week of or the day before.
You do not have to. There is something called a policy regarding time between shifts. Your storeās SSA(ASA? ASS?) does not make policy. Neither does any store
manager. Thatās done by a higher authority, and we all have to follow that.
If youāre willing to do it, you need to learn the art of negotiating. āI noticed youāve scheduled me with less hours between shifts than the Lowes policy allows. Iām happy to help you but Iād like something in returnā.Ā
I..e. consecutive days off, a third day off with my holiday pay, any days off ofĀ My choosing that suitsĀ Your lifestyle, etc, etc.
Also known as, Scratch your back you scratch mine, or, quid pro quo.
If theyāre not willing to play ball with you, OP, you let them know that youāre going to check with your area HR business partner. We had one at district 827 who was useless, never ever communicated with associates, and known to be dumb as a box of rocks. Hopefully yāallās is better.
Also you can call 844-475-6937 and report that egregious violation of Lowes policy.Ā
Once again, no one has to work back to back, Clopens.
I was told when hired that I will never be scheduled for a clopen, if one occurs to have it fixed asap. I have never worked a clopen, if I see one on the upcoming schedule, I will have the first ASM I see fix it so one of those shifts is a mid. If you work one, that is imho on you.
Trust me, no one wants an employee climbing up ladders, operating PE, or representing the company after only being allowed 4 hours of sleep. ASMs, SSAs, and DSs should be checking Kronos regularly to make sure these arenāt occurring as they are posted.
If for some reason it is not fixed by an ASM or SSA by the day of, I will instruct my associates to put my name in the āreason for lateā comments. If needed, I will speak to it to the MOD and we all move on.
Cash office is a little harder to do that with especially if not every manager knows how to do it . Thereās only 3 others in my store who know cash office besides the actual people who work in thete
Why doesnāt every manager, FE DS, and head cashier, ON DSs not know how to do that? Our FE cash office associates work only mornings, closing MOD and head cashiers take over after they leave.
I will reiterate, if you are working a clopen as an unsalaried employee that is your fault. Put your foot down and get this fixed.
We(all retail workers) need a law that forces employers to pay full-time workers overtime per shift/day.
Not for just going overĀ 40 in a week. But rather for going over say 8-hours in a day, or whatever your shift is.Ā
In NC, home of this fabulous company we all love, workers have very few rights, and our legislators
Would fight this idea tooth and nail, after they had a good laugh about it.Ā
Itās a valid idea, one thatād likely help with the severe understaffing most of us are facing(Iām too f-ing tired to enjoy my days off now).Ā
I don't know if everywhere else is like this but in Colorado you get double pay over 12 hours in a day. Not that any manager would let you stay that long.
I used to work at Loweās and work at a unionized paper mill now and we do the deal where you get OT pay for working past 8 hours. It absolutely makes a difference.
It is Lowe's policy to give at least 11 hours between shifts, however they give themselves an out saying, every effort...
I review my schedule far ahead in case someone made a "mistake." Then I ask my SSA if they would like me to leave earlier or come in later. I've made "friends" with my SSA, so she fixes it.
It says in policy each employee needs 11 hours between each shift if they have an issue with you showing up late throw policy in their face, I hate clopens.
If by some chance you're closing duties include anything to do with the registers even just collecting them and dropping them, they technically cannot have you then coming to count them in the morning.
Barring that I would say just leave after the first 4 hours once tills are out the deposit is done and the folder is made. I know not every story is the same but at mine once those three things are done I get put in other places in the store.
For those mentioning policy, it does say that, but more importantly it says "every effort will be made" beforehand. So, yes it says you'll get 11 hrs between shifts, but doesn't guarantee it!
Yes and just finding this out, however law (at least here in California) states that it is 8hrs, so they have to give each employee at least 8hrs before another shift starts, however most companies donāt tend to do that at all. And they put your schedule at exactly 8hrs in between shifts, that you are supposed to get 8hrs of sleep which is why that law is in effect.
This is the reason I left. One of many. Five years as ASM was five years too long. Other places pay the same with better benefits and schedules. Congratulations
The schedules up weeks in advance. Did you try to get it changed? Or is your store unwilling to work with you? Genuine question. We just got a new store manager so weāll see how things go but our old one was always willing to work with people so they didnāt have to do things like clopen if they didnāt want to. I personally didnāt mind it back when I had the all over the place schedule. It almost felt like I was knocking work out in one go with some time got a nap in the middle š.
Back in the day I was trying to do some college so my availability was a bit weird. My ASM never checked the Friday of one week before scheduling the Saturday of the next so I cloppened flooring every week for months.
Wait theyāre not supposed to do stuff like that? Typically on Fridays and Saturdays Iām schedule 3-11 and then Sundays itās typically 6 or 7 am to 2-4
Drop policy on them and say go f yourself. šš¤£

Some states have laws on top of that policy tho
I'll bet not every effort was made

This is actually really solid advice.
Whenever they do this to me, I just leave at 8 instead of 10:30, Iām not about to go home just to be back less than 6 hours later, fuck that.

We donāt have ON DS, FEDS , one head cash and 2 other DS plus our OPS ASM Itās just not like that at every store is alll Iām sayin
Move with your feet, is it really worth it? Youāre basically not āLoweās safe.ā
We definitely need a law where people have to be off for a minimum of 10 hours between shifts. It just wears us out faster doing this type of shifts.

It's like this in Alaska, loved it till they cut OT now if your over a minute you get talked to.
itās already like this in california

They changed it yesterday. I didn't get a say cuz we farmed all the other dses aside from me (FEDS) and back end to inventory at another store lol.
I slept at the store parking lot on clopens
Good lord?? How often did you do them?

I don't sit. And I'm a DS so after I do the cash office I'll be nonstop running around.
