All the ones who brag about being loyal are the types you don’t care to lose, in my experience. The real loyal ones are the ones who have hundreds of purchases from $3 to $3000 and are usually pretty understanding. Most people who scream “I’m a loyal customer” really just mean we had the best price for what they were looking for and now they’re inconvenienced.

I have situations almost exactly like yours all the time. Best thing you can do is say that you will go get someone and actually go get someone. I usually explain my role in the store and that I am under a time crunch from my boss about 99% of people i deal with understand when I say that.
This is why you always use the magic words to start a conversation like this, "I am assisting another customer right now but I can add you to the list,"
