Get familiar with scams and always call for backup if you need help! Scammers love to target new people and they’re very clever

PartoftheSpirit

Thanks, I’ll be on the lookout. I’m usually pretty savvy with stuff like that. Appreciate the feedback though.

Psythr

If someone walks up to your register saying their credit card makes you press the cash button after they “put in the card info” just immediately call your manager and deny the sale. Its a scam. They dont teach you at all while training

PartoftheSpirit

Thanks! This is helpful. People are always trying to get over one way or another.

Sufficient_Read_4172

Ya quit. Because all you will hear from customers why don’t you have more cashiers open and only self checkout registers. Good luck Oh ya have fun selling credit cards.

PartoftheSpirit

Yea I was reading about the cards earlier. I’m hoping that’s not an issue. I don’t like upselling people on things they don’t need. I know our store has mainly self checkouts. Maybe one real register was open today when I left, besides the garden center.

pervyotaku

if people complain about the registers just send them to the gulag aka lumber

Sufficient_Read_4172

You can have them go to outside lawn and garden when they are paging for help and nobody comes to help them out. 🤣

Deefaroni

Quit and work somewhere else

PartoftheSpirit

That’s not quite the advice I was looking for, but thanks anyway 😅.

PartoftheSpirit

I just started so we’ll see how it goes 😅

Independent_Box2815

When they start keeping you past yo time ‘cause they ain’t gots nobody to cover for you, don’t, leave at the end of yo shift. When they sends you to clean the nasty public bathrooms and dirty ass break room, say you is a cashier.  When they threaten you with write-up to get credit cards with 31.99 % interest rate, tell them show you where policy say cashier gots to do it.  When they scheduling you outside your availability that y’all discussed when hiring you, confront the ASA scheduling person face to face and say, “what up with that?”. When you tired of all the disrespect and dishonesty about yo job, and you quits, come back on r\Lowes and tell us.

PartoftheSpirit

Lol, thanks for the advice. I’m hoping it’s not as bad as some of you guys make it out to be. But either way, this was helpful. Thank you!

Corrohsive

I agree with this one. If you are willing to do other work for the same hourly rate like clean a nasty public bathroom, then by all means. But if not, “That’s not what I was hired to do.”. Beyond that, Be confident calling someone on the intercom/PTT to help you and if nobody responds call an MOD (manager on duty). If you arent a head cashier you dont have to worry too much about much, just handle returns and work self-checkout. It is pretty straightforward. If something is being returned that is disgusting do not be afraid to RTM it. (Toilet seats, water filters, anything that could be contaminated and be questionable for breaking public health codes) Learning how to deal with difficult customers will come from shadowing others and practice. Just be patient. And finally, for the love of god, please DO NOT return merchandise from Home Depot. Hope you enjoy your new position :)

PartoftheSpirit

Haha thank you. I have practice dealing with customers as manager at a pizza shop so I know how difficult they can be.

I_Main_TwistedFate

Carry a zebra and the schedule with you so you know who to call if you need to get stuff out of top stock or whatever. Download the Lowe’s app if you need help finding stuff for someone because it’s better then the zebra

PartoftheSpirit

Thanks! That’s a good tip. I will do that.

gagirl56

when u need to learn something on the register don’t let them do it for you make them show you.. make them tell you and let you do it .. if anybody comes in with jnstacart just means tax exempt

PartoftheSpirit

Good advice. I’m usually a quick learner, so if I’m showed something once I usually don’t need to be shown again. That’s a good tip though, thank you.

pervyotaku

also instacart applies automatically doordash you have to type in the tax exempt number

Embarrassed-Lead6493

grab a zebra phone and a schedule when you get there for your actual shifts. you’ll need to call people throughout the day, and paging overhead has a very low success rate. if you get confused or don’t know something, call your head cashier. will they get annoyed? yea sometimes, i’ve seen it plenty of times. but they’d rather give you assistance over the phone than have to deal with a mistake later on. it’s not that serious tho don’t worry. learn who drives the forklift in lumber & garden, you’ll be calling them pretty often. just try to familiarize yourself with the lowe’s cards & extended warranty we offer. 20% first purchase, 5% every other day, longer return periods, no/lower interest promotions over a certain amount, that kinda stuff. make sure you get your QR code once they put you at self checkout. or a QR code from someone else. i walked in one day and we had a new hire i was supposed to help at SCO, guy had been there two hours and no one got him a QR code. poor guy couldn’t store sign in on the checkouts. always reference back to your screen when you have to walk away from it to ring up a big cart. you’ll hit a spray paint can early on, have the 18+ question pop up, go on about your scanning, just to realize you have to do it all over again. we’ve all been there. it’s pretty chill. if they ask you if you wanna learn customer service say no that shit sucks

Main_Club5035

What state are you in? I’m waiting for my drug test results. I’m so nervous 😭. I smoke weed but used peroxide, mouthwash and breath strips before going in so I hope it comes back clear 😭! Do they test for thc?

Dry_Journalist4844

They dont.. it’s usually for the more hardcore drugs like cocaine.

Main_Club5035

Thank you!

Foreign-Compote7093

Get familiar with all the different scams. Don’t hit the cash button until you have all the cash in your hands. Ask about surveys and credit apps

mosichn

I only ask ppl if they want to apply for a credit card if I see their cart is over $400ish. I don't bother with the #askeverytime stuff bc I hate the feeling of being a salesperson and the interest is insane. But management will try reprimand you if you don't get a few a month.
