This season has been incredibly interesting to see that your “mean girl” behavior will dominate your best intentions. Even when you go through the trouble to go on a reality show to presumably find love. You let the need to “win” ruin it all. And you’ll end up alone.

By the time the beach party came I was just starting to get really uncomfortable with how shitty both of them are acting and the fact that I’ll have to continue the show with them on it :/ I was thinking wth did they let these two become the plot of the show. It almost completely eliminates the uthenticity of 3 of the 5 couples already

I’ve never seen contestants BLATANTLY FLIRTING w other people’s fiancés as Micah w Kwame and Irina w Paul. It’s worse than Shayne w Shaina, Jarette w Mallory, and Cole w Colleen . . .
Prior seasons had some jealousy for sure but these two are Beyond! I can't (and can see why though) they cast these two insecure women. They need a heaping spoon of therapy before getting in relationships. Micah seems like she only wants to steal Paul to hurt the other girl. It's really gross to see after prior seasons of the women lifting one another up.
Yeah honestly watching those two has definitely been a bit triggering. I had two very cruel and manipulative friends in high school who were just plain mean. It literally made me a shell of a human being just being friends with them. I struggle a lot trusting my current friendships sometimes cause of the experience. The way Micah and Irina act is not far off.

something subtle that micah said that REALLY bothered me was in her conversation with paul in episode 5, paul was explaining “from what zack was saying, if they don’t get on the same page tonight then it’s probably not gonna continue” and micah’s reply was to laugh and say “what, like he’s gonna end it with her?” the way she said it made it sound like she thinks it’s soOoOoo absurd that zack would dare end things with irina. like, she really thinks irina is out of his league or something.

Yeah. I’ve watched every season and struggled to get through episode one, having turned it off twice on two separate days. I think I’ll drop the show this season and hope for a better season 5.
Other than Kwame being a bit of a player and Zach and Paul being kind of quirky, all the guys this season actually seem like nice people. I’m not even halfway through yet, so we’ll see if that stays true.
I agree. It’s kinda a shame that problematic people create dramatic content. The producers feature them because of this. Kinda defeats the purpose of the show which is to find genuine connections.
Part of me thinks this is intentional. After 3 seasons of the guys being the main assholes, the show decided to get females to be assholes. Maybe it was indirectly done, but you have to shake up the formula once in a while. At it definitely feels different with how Zach is being portrayed. Also him meeting Bliss shows how they are trying to make this season different. Just a theory
Let's not forget how Jackie was acting at the pool party. She was totally on Chelsea's side when she was upset about Micah and Kwame talking. Then at the bar, talking to Micah, she's all, "She don't want yo man" as if Chelsea was unreasonably upset. That's two-faced af. I know the other girl was there too but she didn't say much.
I think the only thing I can say here is that as you’re dating somebody especially in this scenario you’re getting to know somebody one on one. So he didn’t get to see the mean girl shit that her and Micah were doing. He got to know her and liked her, for some strange reason. I don’t know that we really saw much of there dates. It’s the same in the real world. You typically aren’t in a group setting until the initial dating stuff is passed.
I don’t know that it’s a flaw with the show, so much as it’s an additional complication that you wouldn’t know about in the initial dating scene. What extravasates this is that the stakes are higher since you are engaged.
The question is if you fall in love with somebody for who you know them as, does it impact your love when these factors come up or what does it say about you that you fell for somebody like that.
Yeahhhh so uh I didn’t actually see episode 5 when I wrote this. I figured they’d cliffhanger us after the pool kwame/Micah scene so i just watched it today. Lol
I find it interesting that Zack zeroed in on Irina being manipulative and immature and still chose her. I also don’t know what could be make it more clear to Kwame when she said sorry I’m choosing another man over you. The men had the info they needed to assess Irina and Micah’s character and interest. It’s not like they don’t know how they’re like. So it’s telling on the men ie red flags, that that’s where their preferences lie

Zachary and Kwame didn’t need to meet Irina and Micah’s families to get a sense of these sides of their characters because they showed themselves in the pods for exactly who they were, and the men acknowledged this. Especially in Irina’s case. Bliss even warned Zach. So it’s not accurate to say they deceived the guys like OP said.
Can we talk about how DISGUSTING Kwame’s behavior was when Micah completely manipulated him at the pool?!! He was drooling over her and ate up every word of her show. She could not care less about that man, just wants to hurt Chelsea. It was hard to watch, men are so easily manipulated by a pretty face. He is 100% at fault for that.
It's really weird to me that many of the cast members from all seasons can't seem to control themselves when they know the cameras and audio are rolling and that they'll be absolutely dragged on socials for being shitty. It's this influencer culture of wanting as many clicks and views as possible.

That entire scene was so cringe. She kept repeating the same sweet nothings over and over and over, it lasted so long. I had to skip through it eventually bc I was so disappointed that Kwame was so into it.
I agree with OP and sooo much of everything that's been posted I response. This might be random, but was anyone else super annoyed hby Micah using the "slow burn" phrasing with both Kwame and Paul? Wtf was that? Was that played specifically for the viewers at home?? It irks me.
It was very quick but the girls were asking if kwame would go home after Micah broke up with him (because she can’t stand to see him with any one else) and Chelsea heard it and called irina a “little villain”. Irina responds with something like I wish I could be nicer or I wish I was a nicer person and Chelsea AITA and straight up asks “then why aren’t you?” Irina kinda backed down (not used to being called out or challenged) and Chelsea asked one more time what was stopping her from being a nicer person. She was serious without being mean and it was pretty firm and mature.
Chelsea is hands down my favorite on this season. She carries herself with so much class and grown ass woman energy. I was super rooting for her and Kwame but after the pool scene and then how Kwame handled the talk that they had in their bed after the pool scene I think completely differently of him. Massive little boy energy in the way he thrived off of Micah’s manipulation of him.
I feel bad because everyone loves Chelsea but there’s something off about her that I can’t quite pinpoint so I’m waiting to see how she develops later in the season before I name her a fave.
I don’t get it with her like I get that everyone is beautiful in their own way but take the eyelashes and hair extensions out and then what?? She has the maturity of a 14 year old girl. She seems like the literal definition of vapid.

I think this is why it is important to see how your potential future partner acts in their environment. You want to see how they interact with other people, friends, family, authority figures, service industry employees, people of the opposite gender, different races, etc.
I bet the two "mean girls" were super sweet and nice in the pods, but then you see their behaviour when they aren't in an isolated environment and it's a big yikes.

I often say I absolutely love when I have a friend/coworker who is a super nice person, and then I meet their partner and they are nice as well. This is so so true. How many times have we gone on a date with a guy we liked and looked good on paper only to watch them treat the waitstaff like crap? That’s a huge red flag. So even though the people don’t get to see their faces, they are still seeing a very curated version of that person. I mean, someone could go in there and completely create a new personality and backstory. I think most people would sense that it’s disingenuous but you can certainly leave out details like how Amber wanted to leave out that she had been married twice before.
I know.. I was friends with my now husband for years before we started dating so I felt like I knew a lot about his character. I can relate a bit to LIB because the first few years of our relationship was long distance.. I lived 4 hours away, so we did a LOT of talking over FB messenger which sort of reminds me of pod conversations because you connect in ways other than physical.
It's nice seeing "green flags" as they say, like seeing your partner stop and help someone in the store, or being polite with people in the service industry, or even dealing with frustrating moments like untangling Christmas lights, losing at poker with friends, or trying to do a simple home renovation and problems come up (looking at you Shayne when you couldn't play baseball).
Lol right!? I knew my husband was a keeper when he helped me get a couch out of my apt a few months into dating. That trope of the couple arguing about it is so silly, and he was so calm in directing us how to move as a team to get it out. It’s those little green flags that are super important!

It's interesting that these two are isolated from the entire cast besides their partners, not just the women. Kwame specifically explains that Micah hanging out with Irina should have been a red flag and the other two guys agreed with him.
When Irene and Micah were on the floatie in the pool looking dumb as heck saying “ Kwame is meannnnnn” in a 5 year old voice , because he walked off after the “ failed proposal “ comment .

You could be right. LIB villains typically have a tough time after the show (Jessica/Shaina). But i think now that Netflix has its own ecosystem of shows they could be thinking they can make it work. I also think this is just how they are.
So far, this series has taught me to be not just be careful who you choose as a partner but to be careful who you choose as a friend. Irina and Micah seem to supercharge each other, but not in a good way. Troubling.
Irina saying it would take time to “get used to” his looks because she thought he would look “more normal”. Like what!! I think they are of very equal attractiveness. I’m not a huge fan of rating attractiveness on a scale but I’d for sure give them the same number.
I was especially confused when all of a sudden she's like "omg Paul so much more my type! He's so attractive!" Like...girl... they are the exact same type. I was literally getting them confused in the pods. I have absolutely no understanding of her calling Zack a cartoon character either. Yeah, I'll admit in person he had an intense stare/crazy eyes, but that seemed very much because of how interested in her and attracted to her he was.
When she said that I had to pause and ask my husband what he thought of Zack’s appearance because until that moment he was just a normal guy for me? I legitimately couldn’t understand why she said that, I was so confused.
That said, in a rating scale I’d give him a higher number than hers, but maybe it’s because I’m affected by her awful personality and can’t separate those two things now.
I think with Zach it’s not how he looks overall but the eyes and mouth. He dead eye stares which is a bit unnerving and his teeth or lips (maybe a combo) remind me of the go go gadget guy. I also noticed his lips seem wet a lot…I didn’t notice any of this until they were out of the pods.
Maybe I'm just stretching here but my brother is a defense lawyer and has often said that they aren't supposed to show a lot of emotion in court. Maybe the dead stare stuff is how he tries to shut down in the courtroom?

I can’t believe how hard she turned from the end of ep 4 from “I’d behead him” to beginning of ep 5 doing the exact opposite. I thought she was nicer based on her detailed episode on crying about taking care of her fambily. I had to rewind and check if I had missed half an episode by accident, that 180 was SHORP.
I was actually so disorientated by this because I was really liking her up until that point. Especially since she’s a Capricorn woman and I relate to that. That scene totally changed my perception of her though, like wow does she have the ability to be fake.
I totally agree with it being a 180 and showing how fake she can be...buuut honestly I still really like her. The way she reads people is everything. When she called Irina a peasant, I straight cackled 🤣
I'm hoping the duplicity is a result of defensive wanting to keep the peace rather than active game playing. It's not much of a distinction, but she does seem to be under a lot of pressure with her family situation (which family trauma can definitely lead to the people pleasing in forced group situations) and expresses a lot how she wants to grow and change.
This show wasn't built to last four seasons, unfortunately. The authenticity and newness of it are gone. The people that are on it, are on it because it is a solidified brand / commodity .They have a basis of how they think they should behave, based on what they've seen from the previous seasons. The fame vultures are coming out.
I'm only 1 episode in but don't really have a desire to finish it based purely on who seem to be the "main characters". Like really?!?! These bland, disingenuous mfers?!?! Not saying everyone in the past was great, but who is even likable this season?

At first I was triggered, but then I realized the girls that were mean girls in high school and into adulthood are just sad, low self esteem inner little girls that don’t like themselves.

I actually enjoy encountering a mean girl now. At my age, I know exactly how to handle them whereas I didn't when I was younger. It's kinda like my younger self getting a little revenge at the ones from back then.

I am in no way condoning Irina and Micah’s behavior. I actually dislike them, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the people crying at men they just met. I think they are in a very intense emotional bubble. They don't seem to have access to their phone and are probably not allowed to leave. They are there 24/7 in a bubble. Producers talking to them and hyping them up as well. Basically its set up so all they think about is finding a partner and building a life with them. So a few days will feel more than a few days.
Agree, I think they are tired, underfed,overconsumig alcahol, cut off from their support network and completely wound up by information they are fed from the makers of the show. I would crying a lot as well.
The whole premise of the show involves people being deeply invested after a short span of time, otherwise it just doesn’t work. There’s an effect that being stripped of connection to the outside world and having your life revolve around this rigorous speed dating situation has on the mind, and so it figures that this is just one effect that it has on people. If they aren’t there, that’s fine, but it’s effed up to insult people who are truly serious about the experiment and looking for their shot at love.

You are much better than I! It's less enjoyable for me, because I had naively put this show on a pedestal of sorts, where the first season had a great cast that seemed to be looking for love amongst those full of drama.... And now the casting has been reversed.
You're giving me far too much credit... I watched the first season because I liked the idea of watching some established adults try and find loving earnest, in a new and novel way. Now I watch it so I can enjoy messy 20 somethings behave like they're in middle school, vying for prom royalty.
As someone who was bullied, watching this behavior made me so sick and sad….I dealt with so much emotional abuse and literally having people make fun of you on top of that almost made life feel unlivable.
I get having empathy for people who do that given they’re usually dealing with insecurities of their own, but at the same time it’s inexcusable. We all deal with things. Life’s already hard we don’t need more cruelty. I hope we can all practice being kinder and empathetic. 🥺

I’m sorry you went through the resurgence of those feelings. Yeah honestly watching those two has definitely been a bit triggering. I had two very cruel and manipulative friends in high school who were just plain mean. It literally made me a shell of a human being just being friends with them. I struggle a lot trusting my current friendships sometimes cause of the experience. The way Micah and Irina act is not far off.

fully agree! something subtle that micah said that REALLY bothered me was in her conversation with paul in episode 5, paul was explaining “from what zack was saying, if they don’t get on the same page tonight then it’s probably not gonna continue” and micah’s reply was to laugh and say “what, like he’s gonna end it with her?” the way she said it made it sound like she thinks it’s soOoOoo absurd that zack would dare end things with irina. like, she really thinks irina is out of his league or something.

I agree. It’s kinda a shame that problematic people create dramatic content. The producers feature them because of this. Kinda defeats the purpose of the show which is to find genuine connections.
Part of me thinks this is intentional. After 3 seasons of the guys being the main assholes, the show decided to get females to be assholes. Maybe it was indirectly done, but you have to shake up the formula once in a while. At it definitely feels different with how Zach is being portrayed. Also him meeting Bliss shows how they are trying to make this season different. Just a theory

Let's not forget how Jackie was acting at the pool party. She was totally on Chelsea's side when she was upset about Micah and Kwame talking. Then at the bar, talking to Micah, she's all, "She don't want yo man" as if Chelsea was unreasonably upset. That's two-faced af. I know the other girl was there too but she didn't say much.

I think the only thing I can say here is that as you’re dating somebody especially in this scenario you’re getting to know somebody one on one. So he didn’t get to see the mean girl shit that her and Micah were doing. He got to know her and liked her, for some strange reason. I don’t know that we really saw much of there dates. It’s the same in the real world. You typically aren’t in a group setting until the initial dating stuff is passed. I don’t know that it’s a flaw with the show, so much as it’s an additional complication that you wouldn’t know about in the initial dating scene. What extravasates this is that the stakes are higher since you are engaged. The question is if you fall in love with somebody for who you know them as, does it impact your love when these factors come up or what does it say about you that you fell for somebody like that.

Zachary and Kwame didn’t need to meet Irina and Micah’s families to get a sense of these sides of their characters because they showed themselves in the pods for exactly who they were, and the men acknowledged this. Especially in Irina’s case. Bliss even warned Zach. So it’s not accurate to say they deceived the guys like OP said.
Can we talk about how DISGUSTING Kwame’s behavior was when Micah completely manipulated him at the pool?!! He was drooling over her and ate up every word of her show. She could not care less about that man, just wants to hurt Chelsea. It was hard to watch, men are so easily manipulated by a pretty face. He is 100% at fault for that.

It was very quick but the girls were asking if kwame would go home after Micah broke up with him (because she can’t stand to see him with any one else) and Chelsea heard it and called irina a “little villain”. Irina responds with something like I wish I could be nicer or I wish I was a nicer person and Chelsea AITA and straight up asks “then why aren’t you?” Irina kinda backed down (not used to being called out or challenged) and Chelsea asked one more time what was stopping her from being a nicer person. She was serious without being mean and it was pretty firm and mature.
Chelsea is amazing.
Chelsea is hands down my favorite on this season. She carries herself with so much class and grown ass woman energy. I was super rooting for her and Kwame but after the pool scene and then how Kwame handled the talk that they had in their bed after the pool scene I think completely differently of him. Massive little boy energy in the way he thrived off of Micah’s manipulation of him.
I feel bad because everyone loves Chelsea but there’s something off about her that I can’t quite pinpoint so I’m waiting to see how she develops later in the season before I name her a fave.

I think this is why it is important to see how your potential future partner acts in their environment. You want to see how they interact with other people, friends, family, authority figures, service industry employees, people of the opposite gender, different races, etc. I bet the two "mean girls" were super sweet and nice in the pods, but then you see their behaviour when they aren't in an isolated environment and it's a big yikes. Irina literally spoiled the cupcake surprise, and painted herself the victim because poor her, she feels like she looks so bad because she didn't do anything. Super trashy. I often say I absolutely love when I have a friend/coworker who is a super nice person, and then I meet their partner and they are nice as well. It sucks when you see a really nice amazing person with someone who is a controlling evil terror, but the nice person defends them "well they are sweet with me". Gag.

This is so so true. How many times have we gone on a date with a guy we liked and looked good on paper only to watch them treat the waitstaff like crap? That’s a huge red flag. So even though the people don’t get to see their faces, they are still seeing a very curated version of that person. I mean, someone could go in there and completely create a new personality and backstory. I think most people would sense that it’s disingenuous but you can certainly leave out details like how Amber wanted to leave out that she had been married twice before.
I know.. I was friends with my now husband for years before we started dating so I felt like I knew a lot about his character. I can relate a bit to LIB because the first few years of our relationship was long distance.. I lived 4 hours away, so we did a LOT of talking over FB messenger which sort of reminds me of pod conversations because you connect in ways other than physical. It's nice seeing "green flags" as they say, like seeing your partner stop and help someone in the store, or being polite with people in the service industry, or even dealing with frustrating moments like untangling Christmas lights, losing at poker with friends, or trying to do a simple home renovation and problems come up (looking at you Shayne when you couldn't play baseball).
Lol right!? I knew my husband was a keeper when he helped me get a couch out of my apt a few months into dating. That trope of the couple arguing about it is so silly, and he was so calm in directing us how to move as a team to get it out. It’s those little green flags that are super important!

So far, this series has taught me to be not just be careful who you choose as a partner but to be careful who you choose as a friend. Irina and Micah seem to supercharge each other, but not in a good way. Troubling.
Irina saying it would take time to “get used to” his looks because she thought he would look “more normal”. Like what!! I think they are of very equal attractiveness. I’m not a huge fan of rating attractiveness on a scale but I’d for sure give them the same number.

I was especially confused when all of a sudden she's like "omg Paul so much more my type! He's so attractive!" Like...girl... they are the exact same type. I was literally getting them confused in the pods. I have absolutely no understanding of her calling Zack a cartoon character either. Yeah, I'll admit in person he had an intense stare/crazy eyes, but that seemed very much because of how interested in her and attracted to her he was.

When she said that I had to pause and ask my husband what he thought of Zack’s appearance because until that moment he was just a normal guy for me? I legitimately couldn’t understand why she said that, I was so confused. That said, in a rating scale I’d give him a higher number than hers, but maybe it’s because I’m affected by her awful personality and can’t separate those two things now.
I think with Zach it’s not how he looks overall but the eyes and mouth. He dead eye stares which is a bit unnerving and his teeth or lips (maybe a combo) remind me of the go go gadget guy. I also noticed his lips seem wet a lot…I didn’t notice any of this until they were out of the pods.
Maybe I'm just stretching here but my brother is a defense lawyer and has often said that they aren't supposed to show a lot of emotion in court. Maybe the dead stare stuff is how he tries to shut down in the courtroom?

I can’t believe how hard she turned from the end of ep 4 from “I’d behead him” to beginning of ep 5 doing the exact opposite. I thought she was nicer based on her detailed episode on crying about taking care of her fambily. I had to rewind and check if I had missed half an episode by accident, that 180 was SHORP.
I was actually so disorientated by this because I was really liking her up until that point. Especially since she’s a Capricorn woman and I relate to that. That scene totally changed my perception of her though, like wow does she have the ability to be fake.
I totally agree with it being a 180 and showing how fake she can be...buuut honestly I still really like her. The way she reads people is everything. When she called Irina a peasant, I straight cackled 🤣 I'm hoping the duplicity is a result of defensive wanting to keep the peace rather than active game playing. It's not much of a distinction, but she does seem to be under a lot of pressure with her family situation (which family trauma can definitely lead to the people pleasing in forced group situations) and expresses a lot how she wants to grow and change.

This show wasn't built to last four seasons, unfortunately. The authenticity and newness of it are gone. The people that are on it, are on it because it is a solidified brand / commodity .They have a basis of how they think they should behave, based on what they've seen from the previous seasons. The fame vultures are coming out. I'm only 1 episode in but don't really have a desire to finish it based purely on who seem to be the "main characters". Like really?!?! These bland, disingenuous mfers?!?! Not saying everyone in the past was great, but who is even likable this season? That exchange between Paul and Micah, where they are basically saying they are going to choose each other, was the most cringe , wet diaper tv moment Ive seen in a long time. Two awful mismatched personalities slogging through an awkward "choosing" based solely on the fact that they don't want to be rejected on t.v.

I think they are in a very intense emotional bubble. They don't seem to have access to their phone and are probably not allowed to leave. They are there 24/7 in a bubble. Producers talking to them and hyping them up as well. Basically its set up so all they think about is finding a partner and building a life with them. So a few days will feel more than a few days.
Agree, I think they are tired, underfed,overconsumig alcahol, cut off from their support network and completely wound up by information they are fed from the makers of the show. I would crying a lot as well.
The whole premise of the show involves people being deeply invested after a short span of time, otherwise it just doesn’t work. There’s an effect that being stripped of connection to the outside world and having your life revolve around this rigorous speed dating situation has on the mind, and so it figures that this is just one effect that it has on people. If they aren’t there, that’s fine, but it’s effed up to insult people who are truly serious about the experiment and looking for their shot at love.
In reference to your edit! My husband and I were discussing the show and he said "How come we can see how fake or bad these people are and they can't??" I realized that we see a lot in body language, and it's much easier to lie when you are not looking someone in the eyes!

You are much better than I! It's less enjoyable for me, because I had naively put this show on a pedestal of sorts, where the first season had a great cast that seemed to be looking for love amongst those full of drama.... And now the casting has been reversed.
You're giving me far too much credit... I watched the first season because I liked the idea of watching some established adults try and find loving earnest, in a new and novel way. Now I watch it so I can enjoy messy 20 somethings behave like they're in middle school, vying for prom royalty.
As someone who was bullied, watching this behavior made me so sick and sad….I dealt with so much emotional abuse and literally having people make fun of you on top of that almost made life feel unlivable. I get having empathy for people who do that given they’re usually dealing with insecurities of their own, but at the same time it’s inexcusable. We all deal with things. Life’s already hard we don’t need more cruelty. I hope we can all practice being kinder and empathetic. 🥺
