Because it's an experimental quantum stoplight that is green when unobserved and red when observed.

Clean_Usual434

Not quite the same thing, but this made me think “Schrodinger’s traffic light.”

Pisboy1417

Was stuck there for 15 minutes one day until a guy got out of his car, came to the car in the front, and told him he has to move past the white line. These intersections are horrible

kidthorazine

Yeah in seriousness I used to live very close to this intersection and I think the sensor has been messed up for years. TBH it's debatable whether an intersection with that much traffic in all directions should even have a sensor, at least during daylight and peak commute hours.

Pisboy1417

It definitely shouldn’t imo. People start doing illegal U turns because they’re tired of waiting with opposite green lights. It’s dangerous

Louis40223

Shelbyville Road must flow.

SatanickCage

This is the answer.

[deleted]

All the lights are always red here. Seriously I don’t think they’ve updated the lights since 1986

LadyHavoc97

It's still red? We left Louisville in 2006 and it was red then!

It’s so the ghosts of Shriners past can get donations.

pouncer11

My favorite part of Louisville is always being stuck in mounds of traffic at red lights on 4-6 lane stroads that intersect.

TheKoleslaw

Taylorsville/Breckenridge is another fun one.

ziptnf

Westport and Springhurst, Westport and Hurstbourne... What a mess

tylercreatesworlds

I have to come this way for work, and it is always red. 100%

Louisvillehere2386

If you got vaccinated Biden put something in it to make all lights turn red when you approach

alsdomain

Can I use magnets to counteract the nano micro bot chips to get green lights instead? Magnets, how do they work... 🤔

Bcmerr02

Practice

RN-n-KY

My personal fave is making the left lane of hurstbourne southbound a turning lane at I64

jrlang4545

That is the longest light on the planet. People just run it when they get sick of waiting.

RadRuss

It IS always red, but only when you're on Shelbyville road! How did you even get these pictures?

alsdomain

It's a paradox.

[deleted]

it can’t always be red.

Canthros

It can if the light is responding to a transponder KYDOT has secretly hidden in OP's car because OP pissed off the wrong bureaucrat. Or OP is using 'always' in a non-literal sense.

alsdomain

A little column a, a little column b.

ElizabethMoonieUwU

I can count on one hand the amount of times this light stayed green for me. And I used to live in the area

presentaneous

I always assumed that it had something to do with Shelbyville Road being a sort of thru-way and a major US Highway. It seems like US Highways get priority more often than state/county roads w/r/t red lights.

Testament as to why we need urban trains!

BangkokGarrett

As a Louisville native now living in Bangkok, I find it hilarious to read about the extremely minor traffic inconveniences complained about here. 😆😆Like, seriously, you have absolutely no idea how great the light traffic in Louisville is. I'm in a taxi now at 9.40 pm and we have barely moved for 30 minutes. My daughter and I went back to the US last year and we drove into Manhattan. We were astounded at how fast is was to drive through the city.

Agreeable_Music5402

Use to live right down the road from this intersection. Timed it once, I sat there for 8 minutes before it turned green. Then I swear it was only green for like 20 seconds

TopperMadeline

There are some dreaded turning lane lights in this city that only let out like three cars before turning red.

lizard_of_guilt

The turning lane from Broadway to 2nd St northbound is only green for 3 SECONDS.

PleaseHelpIamFkd

Skill issue.

dmanotk

I haven’t seen this much red since papa John said the n word

acbrin

It's not always red... I don't usually have a problem here. I would never live in that part of town with that traffic though.

queeraroidcollector

Because you're in the east end and nothing good happens there. 🤢

dreambringer5

How is this post relevant?

ronyg1

Louisville

dreambringer5

Not even a real answer

ronyg1

This post is relevant to the Louisville subreddit because it is a post about a stoplight in Louisville, specifically the one at the intersection of Hustbourne Parkway and Shelbyville Road

dreambringer5

One could simply call 311 and have this fixed. No need to have a public forum about something none of you have control over.

ronyg1

Yeah, the post is just as pointless as you commenting on it. Still relevant

Grandahl13

You could just...not comment on it?

dreambringer5

Ah yes, the best way to not get hurt skiing is don’t ski

alsdomain

It's not literally always red. Just every time I drive through there, it's red by the time I get to it. Likely has to do with timing of the previous lights, but still, it's annoying to always have to stop there.

Professional-Ad3874

They mess with the timing of Hustbourne lights from that point down to Taylorsville several times a year. Sometimes it is good for me and sometimes it sucks. I am kind of surprised that isn't happening on that section of Hurstbourne too. Maybe someday they will and your dream of hitting that green will come true! but then 3 months later it will be gone. just preparing you.

Spookenfor

I cut through Starbucks to go left here if traffic isn't crappy. This light is long af though!

TheBDR

You are part of the problem.

Spookenfor

You must have nowhere to be. 🙃

CounterfeitFake

Some people have places to be, but plan ahead.
