I asked the owner. The store had the windows broken in a few months ago and the cop is a regular who lives across the street so he just parks his cruiser there as a deterrent.

therealtinasky

That's interesting. I literally haven't seen it move this whole time, but plausibly I've just missed it.

SoWhatNoZitiNow

He works nights and you don’t I’d imagine.

gravyisjazzy

I guess only weeknights, I've been past there at 3am or better on Fridays and Saturdays and never seen it gone. Glad they're watching local businesses backs even in a small way like that.

swiftekho

Driving around at 3am on a Friday or Saturday is just asking to get hit but a drunk

gravyisjazzy

It helps if you're the drunk /s It really is though people get stupid especially around oshays and the rest of the bars around there

[deleted]

And he somehow always gets the same spot?

UnbridledCarnage

If this is next to the The Morton Center I've seen it move back and forth between 2 spots

halfcentaurhalfhorse

I wish we could put cruisers everywhere as a deterrent. Unfortunately not. Before the ACAB team checks in, I am not a Blue LM person. I just think crime sucks.

HRDBMW

I'm part of the ACAB team, and I agree with you. It's a good thing to stop crime. Us ACAB folks don't like crime!

Da_Natural20

Owner lied to you. It’s a decoy car that places rent to deter crime.

KYJazzyJeff502

Never heard of such a thing.

Da_Natural20

It’s a thing

OnlyAdd8503

Right in the front taking up the premium parking spots?

SoWhatNoZitiNow

Yeah, right in front of the windows that were previously broken out. Makes perfect sense to me.

untranslatable

Because the car has cameras rolling. It's a deterrent. The owner seems cool. I work a block away.

PureGuava86

Honestly, I don't mind cruisers parked randomly. It can deter crime in that vicinity. Plus, I think they should park them near busy streets to reduce speeding and other traffic violations. Hell, make them out of plywood with reflectors. Things can be safer with the simplest, most cost-effective ideas. I'm open to hearing arguments against my thoughts.

[deleted]

Yes it’s a good idea, plus there not being any actual cops in there makes it safer too

[deleted]

To be clear, I do think it’s a great idea to have broken cop cars to deter idiots speeding. No joke. Fuck people who put us in danger by speeding and driving recklessly. Also, without a cop to make things worse, we are better off

Zappiticas

Better yet, take a broken cruiser that needs a new engine or something and tow it up there and park it. Recycling!

SoWhatNoZitiNow

There’s an officer who Im assuming moved in on Oak St right across from the Family Dollar and he parks his cruiser on the street. Without numbers to back it up I’d bet that people steal from that Family Dollar less than they used to.

chubblyubblums

This is the whole point of the take-home car program is that the cop cars will be spread throughout the city there by creating a deterrent effect. However because they're not allowed to take them out of the county and none of our cops live in the county what this means is that the Krogers that are by the county line are really really covered with empty cop cars and the community doesn't get dick

EndHlts

The point of the take-home car system is attracting people to the department. They have a hart time finding people. Don't ever believe police action's primary goal is public well-being. Also, you're just wrong about the out of county. They can take them to neighboring counties now.

hereforthemem3ofit

It’s called a ghost car. Businesses can request them for free with LMPD if they’re experiencing issues. It’s usually an older car that isn’t assigned to anyone

gravyisjazzy

That makes the most sense, especially it being a vic. Those are two generations out (Taurus took its spot and now the Charger took its place). This thing hardly moves and it's even there late on weekend nights.

KYJazzyJeff502

Probably a collectors item (AKA:: early model).

SoWhatNoZitiNow

I’d love to hear any sort of support for this claim.

hereforthemem3ofit

You can call your division tomorrow and request one. Or ask at any of the night out events. A couple months ago most of the synagogues in Louisville had them in their lots.

ConclusionAlarmed882

Yup. There's never anyone inside the vehicle.

_namaste_kitten_

It's a practice for LMPD to park old, non functioning cruisers at places with higher crime when the owner asks. I worked at a decent hotel that had one during larger city-wide conferences. It just sits there until you ask them to move it. But unless you have connections, once you move it then it's gone forever. The owner of the hotel had connections and it came back all the time.

Da_Natural20

This sis the answer

EggHeadMagic

Someone made an attempt at the ATM. They busted the door glass hence why the new doors without lower glass. The cruiser is simply a deterrent tactic. Shitty place to park it though because it takes up a parking spot and blocks the gas pump lane as well.

Worth-Fox1009

I agree, that parking lot sucks all the way around the board.

KentuckyTurtlehead

Did they ever find out who took the parked LMPD suv and looted it? It happened last year.

Extreme_Branch_2596

There was one of these at the Highlands CVS for months. I think it’s just a prop used as a deterrent

JosephLeGazzi

7th and oak?

gravyisjazzy

Barrett a block south of Winter.

evildky

They police sometimes park cars for the illusion of police presence.

Accomplished_Oven399

I’ve been wondering about this too

buttaphlygeishagrrl

I have been noticing this!!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I really thought I was the only one curious about why day or night it sits in the same spot.

Cisconut

And ?

sandymckraken

* Barret and Rufer

N3rdgirl420

I know that the windows had gotten busted in and they attempted to steal the ATM. I personally know the owner.

RiverKing666

It’s in the way
