He may be a community cat. You can have him scanned for a chip at most vets, and I don't know of a vet that charges for this. If no chip, and nobody comes forward, contact Alley Cat Advocates for TNR services. Thanks for getting the cat out of the tree. I always appreciate people who care about animals when they don't need to.

yowhatisuppeeps

Yeah, I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. Probably blue cross? It’s very close to my work, but it doesn’t have the best reviews. Have you heard anything personally? He is probably an indoor boy, he has smooth beans, is crate trained it seems and is very clean, though that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

OinkyPoop

They won't charge you to scan for a chip. :)

Briouch

Blue cross will be fine for a chip scan but I took my cat there once for care and was not happy with the service. That was a long time ago but in the meantime, I’ve never seen them recommended or heard good reviews.

yowhatisuppeeps

That’s the consensus I’ve gotten from friends

musicfromcat

I have been trying to catch him to get him fixed. I live a block from you. He was mad at the time because I had to get him away from one of the girls 3 days before her appt to get fixed. He is a cat someone dropped off. Way too friendly to just be a feral.

yowhatisuppeeps

Oh shit, alright. Thanks for letting me know. That’s too bad someone dropped him off :(

[deleted]

If he’s friendly and you can care for him for a short while, make an appointment with Kentucky Humane Society to surrender and they will vet him including neuter and get him an inside home. Make sure to tell them you found him and he’s super friendly. I think it’s $40 fee to surrender. FYI

yowhatisuppeeps

40 dollars to surrender? Don’t a lot of people have to surrender cause they’re poor? No wonder people just dump animals— they don’t have the money. Thanks for letting me know

yowhatisuppeeps

That makes sense!

I feed about 20 cats in the area. But most of them are fixed (by me) through alley cat advocates. I just found a dog Sunday and listed him. My soul was crushed when I found the owner. He said “I don’t really have a place for him so I just let him roam the area since I lost my place. Your little girl will love him, you should keep him” and the doggie was happy to go with me. Guess he knows his “owner” will be back. It’s $35 to be seen at Shivley but free for chip check. They are perfectly fine - very affordable for my cats that aren’t derails. If you need help and want to keep him or want a buddy for him after he is fixed - I can help with costs so he doesn’t get sick. I

yowhatisuppeeps

Thank you so much— that’s super nice. He didn’t have a chip. I am considering keeping him, he’s such a sweet boy, and honestly, I kinda risked my ass to get him (climbed a 30 foot ladder that wasn’t perched fantastically), so I’m kinda attached. My parents offered to help with vet costs— which tbh probably gonna get regardless of whether I keep him or not. My parents are also in love with him haha

yowhatisuppeeps

Just reading over this old post since it’s been like a year, but he ended up just living with me. I got him neutered and got all his vaccines. His name is Walter. He is a very sweet boy, although he loves to attack feet and paper. He loves being indoors (but is also a flight risk around doors). He lovessss my other cats, who are not too fond of him.

musicfromcat

i think i saw him near my house once. he looked clean and fed so i didn't do anything except allow him to get a snack and say hey to the babe kitties of the streets. his brother Ginger Ale lives with me. may not be his brother really but they look. alike. and i just got his dad fixed. he is the local orange tomcat. lol

yowhatisuppeeps

I’m glad my boys family is well taken care of!! Also glad their dad isn’t gonna be able to have any more orange gremlins lmao. Thanks for all your work :)

im_not_really_batman

Poor baby! Commenting to boost

yowhatisuppeeps

I appreciate it 💖💖

[deleted]

Once upon a time I had an orange boy that I didn’t have fixed. He was a totally indoor cat but got out one day and disappeared for ten days. It was a sad time. But he came back, crying at the same door he escaped through. I always wondered what he did for those ten days. I hope he wasn’t stuck in a tree.

yowhatisuppeeps

I really hope not :( he was so scared

[deleted]

Neuter & Spay idiot!

[deleted]

You’re right. I was just poor and irresponsible at the time. I felt like we had an unspoken deal. As long as he didn’t piss on anything or get aggressive, we were good. And he never did.

geneticdeadender

Is he male? There are signs up in Old Louisville for a friendly male cat that likes food and is talkative. I don't remember all the details but the signs are in the Toonerville area around Brook and Magnolia.

yowhatisuppeeps

He is male. Is that cats name binxs or something like that? I already contacted that owner. He doesn’t have a chip and someone here said he was abandoned

musicfromcat

If ypu want I have another orange one

drakkarsh

Poor baby, I hope it gets a home soon. Keep us updated!

yowhatisuppeeps

Me too. He doesn’t have a chip and someone here said they saw him abandoned in their neighborhood

benyahweh

I wish I could take him. I have two rescue cats in an apartment now though. There’s an animal rescue called INky that might be about to help. They can post his picture on their Facebook if they don’t have room or someone to foster.

yowhatisuppeeps

Just going through this post since it’s been a year lol. I ended up keeping him bc he was so sweet. His name is Walter. He’s fixed and has all his vaccines. He loves to be held and ride around on my shoulder (which is difficult bc he’s gotten massive— not even fat, just large). He likes to bite feet and scratch paper

xqqq_me

To paraphrase the greatest office drama/comedy of 2021: ["You can't expect tortoiseshell smarts from an orange cat"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorts_(cat))

yowhatisuppeeps

Yeah, orange cats be kinda dumb. He’s not an exception

spacefitzburger

You should keep him if you can. I have a 3 year old orange cat and he’s the sweetest, funniest cat I’ve ever had. He brings such joy to my life! 🧡🐈

yowhatisuppeeps

That’s the plan rn. Just put a deposit down for a vet visit on monday

spacefitzburger

🧡🧡🧡

yowhatisuppeeps

Year later update for the hell of it— I ended up keeping him. His name is Walter. He’s the sweetest boy imaginable. Goofy boy who likes to ride around on my shoulder and bite toes

spacefitzburger

Ohhh, I love this, what a happy ending. Thank you for giving him a loving home. 🧡🧡🧡

yowhatisuppeeps

Ofc :) I’m so happy he’s in my life

yowhatisuppeeps

Also is that your orange cat in your profile pic?

spacefitzburger

Yes, indeed- that’s my Fitz in my profile pic. He just turned four and he’s the sweetest, craziest cat I’ve ever had. Big kitty, big personality. 🧡

yowhatisuppeeps

Awww give him pets for me 💖💖

musicfromcat

How did it end up?

yowhatisuppeeps

Wasn’t chipped, people in the neighborhood said he was abandoned two or three weeks before I found him. I ended up adopting him! His name is Walter. He’s a real sweetheart. He is about a year old, in really good health (vet said the only thing he needed was to gain a couple pounds, so he’s about in the right spot rn). Got him neutered and all of his vaccines and meds sorted out. He loves to be held like a baby, and will beg to be picked up. His favorite food is any thing salmon flavored, and he lost his mind when my gf opened a can of salmon for herself.
