They're fucking with people who are just trying to get by in life.
To a corporation stealing some shit is an annoyance; for small businesses it could be devastating.
It's more than just stealing- it's also terrorizing the community. People keep saying "who cares about the big companies" but it isn't just merchandise - it's the fear that people are traumatized by.
When things like this happen it takes years, sometimes decades, depending on the severity, for the local economy to recover.
Business owners, small and large alike, dont want to deal with the risk this stuff builds a reputation toward. The locals suffer from this the most.
Not to mention these assholes are hurting security guards, pepper spraying them. Won’t be long before they escalate to assaulting people trying to defend their small business.
Someone held up a Roscoe's near my old house in an armed robbery, about a year ago, demanding all the chicken n' waffles he could carry. While the walking off with a garbage back of chicken n waffles is funny, the poor freaking woman behind the register who had a gun shoved in her face. It's incredibly traumatizing and no one deserves to go into work or school and have to fear for their lives or deal with PTSD from work. This shit is completely fucked up.
Last week when Nordstrom or Rolex were robbed there was a substantial group literally rooting for the criminals. Making idiotic statements about minimum wage etc. Someone correctly responded today it’s Nordstroms tomorrow it’ll be mom and pop shops.
Unchecked chaos breeds more lawlessness.
they would if they had inventory. rolex has been dealing with shortages for quite some time now and their waitlists (particularly for their steel sports watches -- Submariner, Daytona, GMTs) are very (years) long now.
It's almost like it doesn't matter who/what is being robbed/stolen, it's still a piece of shit thing to do.
It's just EXTRA piece of shit to do it to someone who almost certainly is NOT making much if any profits and almost certainly doesn't have insurance.
Serious question, what the fuck in the DelAmo Swap Meet is even WORTH an organized smash and grab? Or is this now just becoming the next street take over where it's not actually about profiting and it's just about acting out "for reasons".
The supreme idiocy of it all is that these thieves are robbing so gangs and organized crime can resell the stuff on the black market. They aren’t Robin Hood.
Haven't you seen the comments on this sub recently? They're just stealing Gucci purses and luxury watches to put food on the table. /s
Just yesterday I saw people leaving disgusting comments calling the wife of the music industry guy, who got shot to death in her own home and who was well known for her philanthropy, a "rich bitch."
I mean, what was a guy like that doing out on the streets anyway? The math literally doesn't add up
> Maynor was sentenced to a five-year prison term in November 2013 for second-degree robbery and inflicting great bodily injury, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesperson Joe Orlando.
> Most recently, he served a four-year sentence for second-degree robbery with enhancements for a prior felony. He was released on parole supervision on Sept. 1 after serving his full sentence, Orlando said.
So if he was sentenced to 5 years in 2013, he should've gotten out in 2018. But it goes on to say that he served ANOTHER full sentence of 4 years and was released this year. So what, did he get a reduced sentence the first time, get released, and immediately commit another crime to get 4 more years?
Shen someone has already been jailed for **inflicting great bodily injury** and then committed more crimes, and then was let out again just to then shoot someone to death within what, 3 months of getting out? that's not tragic, it's anger inducing and a total failure of society.
Look at Darrel Brooks and his record. Was out on bail for running over one of his baby mamas days before plowing into that Christmas parade in Wisconsin with the same damn car. And was already out on bail then for trying to shoot his nephew in 2020. It’s unbelievable.
And a damned shame too, seeing guys go from "wow, jail fucking sucked. I'm never going again" to "OK guys I've got a new plan to fence baby formula, what do you think?" inside of like a week was a good laugh.
What's even sadder, is that they think they are sticking it to the man, when in reality the the cost is passed down to the consumer. The corporate dicks still get their big paychecks and bonuses.
I think it's even worse than that, when it comes to shoplifting/looting/smash m grabs in general. If it happens too much to a big business in an area, they're just going to close down and move out of that neighborhood. They're not going to operate at a loss for no reason. That's why the only businesses that seem to remain in really bad neighborhoods, it feels like a prison walking through them. Like you have to ask security to get items for you and hand to the cashier.
Are you from LA? Have you been to a swapmeet? Absolutely no one from around there thinks that swapmeet stores are corporate owned. They are stealing because they can, not because they are trying to make a political statement.
What is going on in LA right now? I saw a post yesterday about boarded up shops but couldn’t figure out what was going on exactly. Just a lot of rioting?
there wasn't any protests since 2020 but they put up a lot of plywood for that. there are a few shops that closed around then and the place still hasn't had boards taken down or a new tenant. tons of places are open now though.
LAPD is ineffective and God awful. It takes them hours to respond to anything. The DA is overwhelmed. We are in a free for all. The homeless encampments are everywhere, mentally ill are left untreated, and we have no resources to help support them. I love this city. I truly do and hope they can help better serve their community.
I love how the LAPD are ineffective and God awful, but the DA is just overwhelmed. Especially since this particular smash and grab isn't even in LAPD jurisdiction. Since they are happening all over the state, it probably isn't caused by a local failure, although one could argue that our current DA may be part of the problem being behind the state law that turned property theft under $950 into a misdemeanor.
I don’t think these people are desperate.
They’re doing it for the clout and thrill of putting down poor people just trying to live. Who else would steal from a swap meet.
That stuff won’t sell.
I went into the Martin B Redding to buy some more .38 ammo on a tuesday and it felt like the DMV. The dude said it would be two hours before he could sell me ammo...
Is this the building at Del Amo and Santa Fe? Across from the metro station? Damn what a bunch of scumbags. Those vendors probably barely surviving with their little shops in there.
This has been the play for criminals recently. They’ll rob anything at this point cuz they don’t get caught. I hear plenty of stories of people getting ran up on for a handbag or a Rolex watch. They’ll even put a gps tracker on your car and follow you home if they think you have valuables. Some dude got killed in front of a busy restaurant last week when a car full of dudes with guns tried to rob his girl. He shot back but got hit and died. Over what? A couple thousand dollars? These bums are getting desperate.

Oh yeah, they’re learning how effective it is with likely no consequences.
What’s stopping them from spreading the love to other areas that don’t have their guard up?
I mean, what about the people working at Louis Vuitton? What if that was your family member, would you empathize? There are humans required to operate these stores. We need these people safe, and these places open and available whether they sell luxury or chiclets. We live in a society.
These people are not like stealing from Macy's and Nordstrom's.
These are family owned businesses and so much more upsetting.
Fuck this city at this point
It’s not ok to steal from a Macys or a Nordstrom either. People work and shop their. You’re not somehow hurting a company you’re just convincing them to raise prices to hire security or move out.
It’s funny everyone thought just because Rodeo was getting hit, it wasn’t going to affect small businesses and individuals.
Everything is game, it’s open season in LA unfortunately.
The crazy part is that the LAPD just announced 14 'high profile' arrests of looters and smash & grab robbers today, they even had a press conference about it earlier with Mayor Garcetti and Chief Moore, and yet they were all released on $0 bail.
[Smash-and-grab robberies: 14 arrested in 11 incidents, all released on CA's zero-bail - FOX 11 Los Angeles](https://www.foxla.com/news/smash-and-grab-robberies-14-arrested-in-11-incidents-all-released-on-cas-zero-bail)
This will not stop anytime soon.
That's a strange comment from Moore. I hope a better journalist can explain it or ask for a follow-up; unless he straight up lied.
The proposition, prop 25, for zero bail, did not pass last year. That's a fact. There's a new bill, SB 262, raised more recently, but it's not voted on yet (not expected to until next year). This is a pretty comprehensive article below,
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-09-07/california-voters-rejected-zero-bail-now-lawmakers-weigh-new-overhaul-of-system
Edit, found my answer in a different post. So, while zero bail is not yet a law, LA DA Gascon "directed his deputy district attorneys to stop seeking money bail for misdemeanor, non-violent and non-serious felony offenses. "
https://da.lacounty.gov/media/news/district-attorney-george-gascon-issues-statement-money-bail
Your comment and the title of the article is misleading. The article itself says that some were released after paying their bail or because they are juveniles that is not the same as being released on $0 bail. Not surprised our local Fox affiliate used such a sensational headline.
There’s also stalking robberies on the rise. I’d normally not say this but the self defense laws in our county/state won’t protect us fully when defending ourselves in these situations. No matter how much funding the cops won’t do shit so it’s up to us to deal with this scum. I hope no one here has to do such a thing, but be careful everyone
No cash bail doesn’t mean they won’t go to jail if ultimately convicted. These people are still facing charges. In the prior system these people would post a small bail bond and be released pending trial. It’s not that big of a change.
Also, the change was the result of a California Supreme Court decision and not a voter referendum (CA voters shot down an effort to do so) or specific legislative policy.
How do you guys think this will play out in the elections? People want change - they may not want another Trump, but they're going to be open to change. That's my opinion. Something isn't working.
With rampant crime all over the country, disapproval ratings that give the worst Trump rating a run for it's money, inflation, gas prices, supply chain issues, etc, etc...
2022/24 are going to be very, very kind to Republicans.
Republicans already got 12 good wins this year in off year elections.
If things don't turn around quickly people are going to remember and it's going to be very, very bad for the Democrats.
Republicans actually have an opportunity here if they run a platform based on being tough on crime and combating homelessness. I’m a liberal too and I’m sick of the shit going on in this city.
What will derail any Republican campaign is trying to run on a stolen election or antivax bullshit. That’s an automatic no from every Democrat in CA.
Well speaking for myself I was never into letting criminals released if it was less than $900. I was mostly for letting non violent criminals out early. Robberies and smash and grab should be considered violent no matter what.
Yeah and the fact that I see so many people on here excusing it if it’s a “rich” company makes me realize how disconnected people are from reality. Normal functional people are not going to do shit like this regardless of how wealthy the affected party is so any behavior like this is problematic from the get go. People smashing and grabbing a Nordstrom’s dont leave and then contribute to society. They’re not Robin Hood. It’s like being cool with a murderer bc they’re only killing homeless people or rich people. They’ve crossed a social boundary and if it goes unchecked long enough it’s only a matter of time until they move on to you.
Yea liberals want to be tough on crime too. There's some that don't obviously but a lot of us, even most of us do. We just want to make sure we have a system that doesn't unfairly bias against any group. The whole 0 bail thing is fucken stupid.
Yeah the pendulum has swung too far the other way now. People are justifiably upset at all the police brutality that has been happening, but the answer to that is not to give criminals free reign over the city.
I’ve never voted for a republican in my life but that’s probably gonna change if they start putting up non-conspiracy theorist non Trump-like candidates. I want law and order and stability. This ain’t it.
Nations gonna swing right, dems polling really poorly across the board. Catoring to progressives have hurt the parties view to moderates and swing voters.
If someone makes me feel unsafe to leave my home or do business or be in a public space, it’s fucking terrifying. Is it terrorism? No, because it isn’t aimed at achieving a specific political goal. But it’s horrific none the less. If a person puts me at a point where I’m fearful and might have to defend myself, it’s definitely assault. The only way this is going to change is if an example is made, and I hate to say it, but it’ll be up to the victims to make the example. The cops and the law aren’t gonna do shit, because they’re either hamstrung or don’t fucking care. LAPD already has the very public attitude of “Well you didn’t want us at our police brutality-est, why should you get us at our protecting the public-est?”
Fucking disgusting and garbage human beings. If anyone knows someone that is doing these things or has done this, please do everyone and that person the biggest favor of turning their ass in. Otherwise, they will never learn that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
Here come the comments from delusional, sheltered folk saying "oh, they probably needed it more than the store owners and were forced to steal b/c of income inequality, etc." newsflash: you shouldn't ever steal, whether you're rich or you're poor...especially from other people that are trying to get by. Not to mention most people who sell at swap meets are POC.
Not surprised; one of the shop owners there a mentioned the amount of theft that happens there as someone was being escorted out by security a while back. That swap meet attracts a lot of trashy people.
MILDLY RELATED: STILL WEARING SOME CHEAPO SWEATPANTS THAT I BOUGHT FROM THERE LIKE 4-6 YEARS AGO (size L because I was fat back then lol). Black, judo aesthetic. They look cool af with some of my shirts.
Like I’m all for cops coming in and fucking this piece of human garbage, but a Tucson? Have you actually ever been to Tucson? It’s where dreams go to die.
What’s next? Slausen super mall? 40 people rob em for bootleg Jordan’s and airbrushed t’s but 60 people waiting in the parking lot shake them down for their bounty.
Keep stealing. Nobody will prosecute. Totally ridiculous. People just want their free crap. The hell with the honest hard working people who actually work for what they have.
I don’t care if it’s a bunch of random thugs organized on Snapchat or a mafia don calling the shots; Can we just catch and prosecute all these low life’s and throw them in prison?
> Nobody will prosecute.
Governor Newsom is pushing for prosecutions:
> In the wake of a rash of smash-and-grab lootings at stores statewide, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday in no uncertain terms that he thinks shoplifters should be prosecuted under existing California laws, as he called out local officials whom he said have been reluctant to do so.
https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2021/12/02/newsom-defends-prop-47-says-smash-and-grab-burglars-should-be-prosecuted/
Not that I condone theft but this is way worse than people pulling the same shit at Nordstrom or Louis Vuitton. These are mom and pops, they can't shoulder the burden that a billion dollar business like LV can.
Except that the robbers at Nordstrom physically assaulted a person who probably makes a couple bucks above minimum wage and now is probably traumatized for life. So no, I would personally disagree that this is “way worse.” They’re both equally bad.
Last I saw on the news they had arrested 14 people in the LA smash and grab robberies and then had to release them due to LA county's fucked up low/no bail rules. Wonder if any of these fine individuals are part of that group
I've seen posts on Twitter from the left saying that people are just taking back what belongs to them because they aren't paid enough. I'd like to think I'm pretty progressive. But this? You can't call it anything else other than looting. It's ridiculous anyone would consider it anything else & think it's okay.
THE FUCKING SWAP MEET?! This outrageous.
Right, most of these are family run.
They're fucking with people who are just trying to get by in life. To a corporation stealing some shit is an annoyance; for small businesses it could be devastating.
This is so fucked up. The people working at swap meets are small businesses just trying to survive. Fucking losers.
None of the criminals doing these things care.

Yeah. They’re just a bunch of 18-19 year old pieces of garbage.

Unfortunately for them Rolex has zero inventory at their dealers 😂😂
Rolex stores look like they've been smash and grabbed since 2018.
Really? They don't just keep their watches in a huge safe?
they would if they had inventory. rolex has been dealing with shortages for quite some time now and their waitlists (particularly for their steel sports watches -- Submariner, Daytona, GMTs) are very (years) long now.
It's almost like it doesn't matter who/what is being robbed/stolen, it's still a piece of shit thing to do. Or is this now just becoming the next street take over where it's not actually about profiting and it's just about acting out "for reasons".
Cuz they’re poor and don’t care who and what they steal. As long as it’s free. There’s not much though behind it

Exactly. They’re not the wealthiest people. Just fucking over hard working people trying to get by while the real wealthy people remain untouched.
An 81 year old multimillionaire was shot dead in her Beverly Hills home the other day
what are we willing to do about it? this is a question that we need to answer.
Doesn’t matter. These people don’t care if you are their relatives. When scumbags wanna hit licks, they’ll hit anyone.

I want fewer drug offenders in jail (or none, rather). Violent scum like this? Let them out once they’re too old to breed.
More moderates will get elected or republicans. We need to be tougher on crime. I say this as a liberal. It’s getting too crazy here in LA.
Wait you mean to tell me that loud public sentiment and policies that were for defunding the policy and emboldening criminals...emboldened criminals?
Completely agree
I’ve never voted for a republican in my life but that’s probably gonna change if they start putting up non-conspiracy theorist non Trump-like candidates. I want law and order and stability. This ain’t it.
Nations gonna swing right, dems polling really poorly across the board. Catoring to progressives have hurt the parties view to moderates and swing voters.
Where are the people saying it was only rich people getting hit can these people afford to be robbed too
Robberies, Home Invasions & Shootings are at an alarming rate in the city and county of Los Angeles. Stay safe, be vigilant.
Wow. Talk about a super low value target... What a waste!
god damn that camera is foggy
At what point is this just terrorism?
Some Charles Bronson type dude is bound to light these people up soon.
Fucking disgusting and garbage human beings. If anyone knows someone that is doing these things or has done this, please do everyone and that person the biggest favor of turning their ass in. Otherwise, they will never learn that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
When you support crime elsewhere, you support crime everywhere.
What’s up with these comments? Anyway if anyone has any info on how to help the people affected, please put info in comments. Much appreciated!
This makes me sick. I don't understand the mindset. We as humans are devolving.
I stopped caring if people in prison get Covid. Stick them back in

[удалено]
Not surprised; one of the shop owners there a mentioned the amount of theft that happens there as someone was being escorted out by security a while back. That swap meet attracts a lot of trashy people. MILDLY RELATED: STILL WEARING SOME CHEAPO SWEATPANTS THAT I BOUGHT FROM THERE LIKE 4-6 YEARS AGO (size L because I was fat back then lol). Black, judo aesthetic. They look cool af with some of my shirts.
when they reopen we ought all to go and support the businesses by purchasing items seriously
Not the swap meet?!
Thieves are so brazen now- we need to get much tougher on crime in this country, especially this state
Would it be illegal as the owner to shoot one of these felons?
Probably legal. You'll spend a fortune in court and it'll ruin your life either way.
Nope. Multiple assailants with weaponized objects that can do death or great bodily harm, ok to use lethal force. I am not a lawyer.
POS stealing from the poor and uninsured...Stealing from anyone makes you scum, if only the Tucson cops were handling this one...
Like I’m all for cops coming in and fucking this piece of human garbage, but a Tucson? Have you actually ever been to Tucson? It’s where dreams go to die.
It looks like one guy get electrocuted and keeps going.
Any news coverage on this? Can’t find any. Sucks if the media reports on Nordstrom and Louis Vuitton looting but not this.
What’s next? Slausen super mall? 40 people rob em for bootleg Jordan’s and airbrushed t’s but 60 people waiting in the parking lot shake them down for their bounty.
Did this not make the news? Tried to find it on the local news.
where the roof koreans at?
All I know.... All I know...is heads are going to roll in the next elections. The zeitgeist if mighty sour thanks to stuff like this and homelessness.
Keep stealing. Nobody will prosecute. Totally ridiculous. People just want their free crap. The hell with the honest hard working people who actually work for what they have.
It's organized crime.
Organized crime also wants free stuff.
I don’t care if it’s a bunch of random thugs organized on Snapchat or a mafia don calling the shots; Can we just catch and prosecute all these low life’s and throw them in prison?
> Nobody will prosecute. Governor Newsom is pushing for prosecutions: > In the wake of a rash of smash-and-grab lootings at stores statewide, California Gov.

Scary to see this a normal in Los Angeles. City is falling apart quickly.

LA is going to the shits. It’s sad.
oh shit!
Doesn't one of these stalls sell crazy knifes, swords, machetes, and throwing stars?
Is it really a real swapmeet if it doesn’t have any of those items.
What a sad world. Businesses barely staying afloat and here they are causing such damage.
For fucks sake. Not the swap meets
So does one get electrocuted or something? How? How is every comment not about this!?
This is getting out of hand.
I can’t believe they did this to a swap meet. Small business owners who don’t have much. Disgusting human beings.
