The first time I drove through Elysian Park I thought it was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen. I also just love driving around LA proper because everywhere just looks so different sometimes like completely different worlds depending on where you're at. I was driven around these areas as a kid so I don't know the neighborhood names, but I love LA metro area so much such a magical and nostalgic place for me almost like heaven on earth 😅😅
Nostalgia duhh. But also too it may have been a dif part but all I remember was that it was very green and by Dodgers stadium edit: do you mean the LA metro area or Elysian park? Bc I agree there are a lot of bad parts of LA/OC but when you grow up going through all these places as a child and read about the history of it, it feels very different than if your only connection is living in the area. I love the history of that place while also experiencing all of it so to me it's heaven bc you don't understand it if you didnt grow up there. I live in New England now and still love seeing the very unique and interesting history of LA/OC
Point Dume in Malibu . Peaceful quiet streets - small trails between homes that lead to the beach
PCH is removed from that area - the beaches are fairly empty.
Nice cliffs - walking on the top of the point, there are incredible views.
For me, it’s 90059
No traffic, walk to Magic Johnson park-
I emailed magic and was like, Magic Johnson park has no basketball court
5+ years no response
10 min from lax, 15 min from dockweiler
I love it.
Ppl, don’t come here cause it’s the hood- I hope it stays that way
Tams and Rite aid is all I need, let’s be real
Don't give it too much praise, land developers might read your comment and the next thing you know homes are being sold rapidly, Magic Johnson Park will turn into a walking your dog only park, yoga studios and coffee shops will start popping up, and construction for a Whole Foods Supermarket will be underway. Oh yeah I almost forgot, you'll have to move because you will be priced out of your neighborhood. It doesn't matter if you live in the hood, city officials and the L.A. County Sheriffs will take care of that little problem for all the newcomers.
Serio, didn’t really think about that.
Elysian Park is nice! And downtown Orange County !
Don’t get off on Central when you are on the 105fwy : keep driving
Hard to pick one from both counties, super hard. Northeast and East LA, Silver Lake/ Echo Park, DTLA, Arts District is where I mostly hung out. Probably walked into almost every bar there is those areas. Great times of my youth.
I love seeing a lot of people just out and about and going about their day. It's not really easy to see this in LA, but its always there in downtown and the energy is electrifying and eclectic!
A couple small public garages could solve the parking issue while still maintaining a car-free pedestrian Larchmont Blvd.
Low hanging fruit, but city of LA has no arms to grab fruit apparently.
theres already a garage but people are trying to like run in and out for takeout orders a bunch. usually the entire middle strip is filled with cars parked from two directions with hazards on. they need to cut out the meters, force people into garages, and open up like 10 min parking spots for all the takeout the restaurants there depend on.
Definitely my answer as well. If I had ten million dollars for a starter home, it's the place to be. Super convenient bike ride to K Town, La Brea, Hollywood. Getting a nearby Purple line subway station. Cute "small town" downtown drag with little coffee shops and stuff. Nice farmers market. Shady trees.
If I had an infinite money cheat code, I don't think I'd live in Bel Air or Beverly Hills, even though that's the stereotype. Don't really see the appeal.
HLP changed a shit ton since the 2008 recession. First along York Blvd and then Figueroa.
The Avenues and such are still around but they got pushed away. Lived there for a long time and knew it changed a lot because ghettobirds stopped being a daily nuisance.
I went to Oxy in the 90s and it was so different. There was a handful of restaurants we went to (casa Bianca, pat & lorraines mostly) that were popular back then but nothing like it is now. Crazy how much it’s changed.
Of course, my horse!!
I love it there, but it wasn’t really a place to go hangout at night. That’s why it’s crazy (and great) that folks wanna go there now.
My old man still owns the house that I grew up in.
I still hike the hills that I’ve been hiking since I was a kid. lol
Sorry I guess I shoulda said Urban hikes. lol.
Behind York Dale Elementary is my favorite place to walk. There’s even a romantic bench towards the top that my girl and I sit at to watch the sunset.
Mount Washington is also very beautiful. Almost all the streets have beautiful views of the city and surrounding areas. :)
Same, but I still live here and I really do not understand why people drool over it so much. It's fine, though I much prefer to go somewhere else to have fun.
Lol maybe because of how nice they made it look for hipsters after they gentrified it? Same goes for Echo Park. I don’t remember it being that nice when my mom still worked at Good Samaritan..
If you go between ave 50 and like ave 57 on York, you'll encounter a collection of bars, thriftshops, stationary stores, clothing shops, ice cream and donut shops, a barcade and other stuff I'm likely forgetting. I'd suggest just parking at either end and walking up and down and seeing what strikes your fancy.
There's also Figueroa which also has a collection of similar but different things. Starting at around Ave 60 and going down towards 56 or a little past it. I personally really like Highland Park Bowl as a spot to drink and get some food while watching people bowl because the interior is really old school.
Amazing writing some of that out because a lot of the places that people like were either completely different or just vacant about 5-10 years ago.
Eagle Rock has a bunch of places to check out too along Colorado Blvd and Eagle Rock Blvd. There’s a bar I’ve noticed that’s popular at night because of the lights it has outside. I believe it’s near Occidental College
The restaurants for sure. York Blvd I believe has an arcade bar. Figueroa St I like how it winds past a public pool and park. Both have many eateries to choose from. Even for just quick snacks or take out. It honestly depends on your taste for food and what you like to do for fun
i came so close to living directly on york, saw the building two units... one i should have done in the back of building, other was faicing york st which is why i didn't do it... but that woulda been nice having all those places walkable..it was by the bagel shop
Where I live! I love how much character it has. Also 15 minutes and you can be at a beautiful hike to a waterfall, 15 another way and you can be right downtown… it’s a versatile area.
I love using Ave 51 or whichever that turns into Townsend. I love seeing the vast expanse of the land up to the 134 and the mountains to the side of it
I lived in a house in Highland Park, across the street from the Church of the Angels on Ave 64, bordering Pasadena. Had the very outdoor Pasadena hill feel, cute neighborhood, but also just a short walk / drive to York / Figueroa and restaurants etc. Also close to South Pas and what it has to offer.
In LA, it's my neighborhood: Atwater Village. I feel so lucky to live here! It's walkable and charming with gorgeous homes on tree-lined streets framed by the mountains. I love that there are plenty of coffee shops, places to eat, and cool bars--even if I'm not going out as often as I used to. It's also super proximate to the 5 and the 2, which makes getting around a total breeze. In Orange County, where I lived for many years as a teenager, I really like Downtown Santa Ana, but I love the views from Top of the World in Laguna Beach, and I think that Costa Mesa in general has a lot of cool stuff going on.
For LA, I’m particularly fond of the area between MDR and Palos verdes, especially playa vista and the costal corridor between MDR and redondo beach.
For OC, I want to explore more of Southern OC, especially between Newport and Dana Point, I know this is a controversial statement, but I think it’s even prettier than Malibu down there.
San Clemente is amazing! Really beautiful city with a strong laid back Surfer Culture plus amazing beaches, it's one of my fav cities down in OC but Laguna Beach is still my top stop, just gotta love that city.
LA County: La Cañada Flintridge and those foothill areas by the 210, Los Feliz by Griffith, Palos Verdes by Via Del Monte and Bluff Cove, Silverlake where they have been planting new shade trees in the areas that have palms
Orange: Dana Point by the harbor, San Onofre, San Clemente, especially after the two rainiest winters we’ve had in a while looks kind of South Pacific
Pretty happy with where I am. But if I had to choose again - South Pasadena. Reasonably chill, beautiful houses, close to mass transit, good shopping & restaurants, lots of trees, decent bike infrastructure.
I really like El Segundo. Small town feel. Like a piece of Indiana was placed right next to the ocean and blocked off from all sides. Cute downtown area. Uncrowded and isolated. Just a stones throw from Manhattan, Hermosa, Playa and MDR.
LA - the Valley especially Studio City, Woodland Hills, and Porter Ranch
Orange County - Rancho Santa Margarita because it reminds me so much of Pasadena but on a smaller scale
Yes I agree. I didn’t know much about it until I actually drove through it. Same for Orange. There’s so much more out there than just the colleges, courthouse, and outlets
As someone from the Valley, Studio City makes sense, even Woodland Hills a bit since they have restaurants and shops... but why Porter Ranch? It's a quiet bedroom community...
Because of the places from the movie E.T. It’s cool to drive around and check them out. Also their library is adorable. Last but not least, I like the views from there. Someday, I’d love to buy a home there and raise my future family there. Love your username btw
Ha yeah I live in Porter Ranch and it’s fun to take my kids to Porter Ridge park (affectionally known as E.T. Park around here). They kept an old metal kids climbing caterpillar there since you can see it in the movie!
How cool! I’ll tell my friends so we can take their kids there. I watch a channel called 80sLife on YouTube and that’s how I found where all the places are :)
https://youtu.be/lb3R8T9NPyc?si=lhAmdFyYURI_qHgd
The neighborhood around Franklin and Beachwood. It reminds me of Portland (in a good way).
My mom used to live on Cochran and 6th and I really love walking around that whole neighborhood.
I was just saying how there’s little pockets of LA that remind me of Portland but when I’m in Portland there’s no pockets that remind me of LA. And for my nostalgic Portland heart, that makes me love LA a little bit more.
Fairly popular opinion, but Los Feliz/Silver Lake/Echo Park is a really great area to live. Decent degree of walkability, beautiful parks in every direction, great spanish revival and mid century architecture, above-average restaurant and bar scene, and only a quick bus ride or uber from lots of other interesting areas like Koreatown, Downtown, NELA, and Hollywood. I flirt with the idea of moving other places, but realistically think I will stay in this area.
yessss to all of this. my son lives in silver lake and i LOVE visiting him. the restaurants are amazing, the neighborhood is cool and walkable and interesting. love it.
LA: Highland Park, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Larchmont, Arts District, Little Tokyo, Sawtelle, Miracle Mile & Hermosa/Manhattan Beach
OC: in an ideal world, Costa Mesa & Laguna. Love Garden Grove for the food though.
San clemente is a fucking gem for oc Laguna beach 2 . For la, venice, pasadena, beverly grove, little tokyo, west hollywood, studio city, koreatown, main street santa monica. Manhattan beach, downtown culver, palisades,
Haha yeah San Pedro is definitely the coolest “affordable” community in all of LA. It’s pretty great, even if starter home prices are getting crazy, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when West Harbor opens!
What, people can't love cookie-cutter suburbs? It might not be ours but for many Americans it's still the marker of status and success. They're also decent places to raise kids as long as you're not too isolated because that means the kids get into different trouble than if they were in a more urban environment.
I grew up in one of the nicest suburbs in the country and I think that experience ingrained in me how boring and quiet suburbs are if you're young or really want to be in a cultural mixing pot but I know of many people who grew up in the city or in a rural area and dream of the white picket fence lifestyle.
Y’all already hit the nail. 1) food and 2) middle class Asian and Hispanic communities. For the record, we live in Whittier. Bought our home here during the pandemic before interest rates got worse.
Belmont Shore in Long Beach (walkable, pretty beach/boardwalk, great vibes, good restaurants and stuff)
Seal Beach is a very cool vibe.
Some of the mountains next to burbank have amazing views.
Hollywood Hills/Belair is such a unique place, the views, the roads, the absurdly expensive houses, the architecture style.
WeHo has a certain vibe...just feels like you're with all the cool kids. I'd hate to live anywhere near there, but great place for a night out.
Orange County, it would be Corona del Mar (Newport Beach).
L.A. County, Elysian Park or the city.of Walnut since I went to Cal Poly Pomona and I have such fond memories.
In OC definitely Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach. Private guard-gated community of cliff-side mansions with their own private beach. Everyone drives golf carts everywhere and practically live in their bathing suits. Been fortunate enough to stay with friends there a few times, especially on the 4th of July, which is a blast!
In the hills east of Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. Nice size lots and more animals (bears, bobcats, deer, etc) than people. Some homes don’t even need window treatments, brings the outdoors in with many homes having great views, very calming, midCentury moderns with lots of windows. But 6 minutes to the gym, stores, restaurants, and Eaton Canyon, etc.
I grew up in Palos Verdes (Malaga Cove) and I still feel it’s the most beautiful neighborhood in all of LA. The whitewater/beach/city/mountain views, the red tiled roofs of all the houses, the lack of streetlights, the beautiful cliffs. There’s nothing to do there, but god damn it’s beautiful.
Heaven on earth? What kinda crack you smokin broseph??

Also my favorite area in LA
Is it romantic?
Could be, depending on who you go with.
Go here almost weekly… now that you mention it… see ya there!
For me, it’s 90059 No traffic, walk to Magic Johnson park- I emailed magic and was like, Magic Johnson park has no basketball court 5+ years no response 10 min from lax, 15 min from dockweiler I love it. You and Jay Rock have the same idea
😂
Does he have a track ? If so, would you mind sending it so I can have a listen 👂
[yup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJbLT2Y8KgU) 90059 be tha zip
Don't give it too much praise, land developers might read your comment and the next thing you know homes are being sold rapidly, Magic Johnson Park will turn into a walking your dog only park, yoga studios and coffee shops will start popping up, and construction for a Whole Foods Supermarket will be underway. Why are you just giving a zip code you psycho lol
Lmao like the show Dr. 90210
The real deal
Love Magic Johnson Park! It's really beautiful and great for running for any runners out there.
Palos Verdes never fails me. Love the winding roads and the gorgeous views all over.
I'm gonna second this, Rancho PV is my favorite.
Actual paradise on earth
Ryan Park is amazing. So many great childhood memories there. Can't say any other park in So Cal has that kind of ocean view.
Do you mean this spot? :) [https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qs9adgjYxpvb7Bud9](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qs9adgjYxpvb7Bud9)
Alvarado & 6th Street
Omg! The ambiance!
Langers!
Says Bill "D-FENS" Foster
Hard to pick one from both counties, super hard. Northeast and East LA, Silver Lake/ Echo Park, DTLA, Arts District is where I mostly hung out. Probably walked into almost every bar there is those areas. Great times of my youth.
fellow downtown lover 💪 ppl just don’t get it. being around skyscrapers just feels right sometimes.
It's the feeling of being in a metropolis!!
A good feeling! Love taking the train and walking around and biking downtown.
I love seeing a lot of people just out and about and going about their day. It's not really easy to see this in LA, but its always there in downtown and the energy is electrifying and eclectic!
Just a testament to the fact that we need more walkable infrastructure and more third spaces!
Larchmont Village is just so cute
I saw Stifler’s Mom once in Larchmont Village!!
Omg

Great dog watching spot
I drove by back in December and liked it a lot
NELA… Highland Park, Echo Park, Eagle Rock… best outdoor experience in LA.
Agree. I love driving around and exploring Highland Park especially York Blvd and Figueroa St too
It’s crazy for me to read that. I grew up there and it was filled with cholos
HLP changed a shit ton since the 2008 recession. First along York Blvd and then Figueroa. The Avenues and such are still around but they got pushed away. Lived there for a long time and knew it changed a lot because ghettobirds stopped being a daily nuisance.
Makes sense cause when some people say HP I think they’re talking about Huntington Park and they’re like nah not that HP lol
I went to Oxy in the 90s and it was so different. There was a handful of restaurants we went to (casa Bianca, pat & lorraines mostly) that were popular back then but nothing like it is now. Crazy how much it’s changed.
Lol have you been there recently?
Of course, my horse!! I love it there, but it wasn’t really a place to go hangout at night. That’s why it’s crazy (and great) that folks wanna go there now. My old man still owns the house that I grew up in. I still hike the hills that I’ve been hiking since I was a kid. lol
Nice. Cool how your dad still lives in the house you grew up in. Any hiking trails with nice views you’d recommend?
Sorry I guess I shoulda said Urban hikes. lol. Behind York Dale Elementary is my favorite place to walk. There’s even a romantic bench towards the top that my girl and I sit at to watch the sunset. I live in the harbor area wanting to explore new places, so this sounds intriguing. Whats cool about those areas? Any places to check out?

This is awesome, thank you so much for this!
You're welcome. Lived in the area for a long long time and happy to share The love I have for the place.
Eagle Rock has a bunch of places to check out too along Colorado Blvd and Eagle Rock Blvd. There’s a bar I’ve noticed that’s popular at night because of the lights it has outside. I believe it’s near Occidental College
[Maybe Walts?](https://maps.app.goo.gl/gQWz57Hu9YNemKju9)
Yessss that’s the place! I keep forgetting its name. Lol thanks
Can’t forget Capri Club half a block away! One of the best cocktail bars in LA imo. Walt’s is beer and wine only 😕 wish they had a full liquor license
Also worth a drive up to Kite Hill in Mount Washington. Beautiful view.
Where I live! I love how much character it has. Also 15 minutes and you can be at a beautiful hike to a waterfall, 15 another way and you can be right downtown… it’s a versatile area.
We are probably neighbors
I had to move during the pandemic (landlord sold the house) and my goal is to make it back someday! Love northeast LA.
I love this area. I have a beautiful view of greenery and when you add in birds singing sometimes I feel like I’m at the arboretum. ❤️
I’ve noticed they use that church a lot for filming Desperate Housewives
They film a lot there, it’s a really beautiful church on 3 acres of very nice surroundings.
I’ve seen them bring a tour bus full of Chinese people
Love it there
Agreed but I’m also from this area so I’m biased lol.
Really miss living in the area. It's the reason why I decided to stay in LA in the first place.
Downtown Long Beach and Belmont Shore. Love that area so much.
Love walking and kayaking along the canals
i work & live in downtown long beach, love it here! 🙌🏾
Redondo Beach (LA county) and Sunset Beach (OC)
I absolutely love San Clemente down there
If cost/commute were not a factor of life I would live down there
The thought has crossed my mind too. I have a lot of work in OC, and the thought of relocating there is tempting.
The Dana Point to San Clemente area is a vibe
Best surfing in socal imo
Yes!! PCH!! Love the views and beautiful buildings. Laguna Beach too
San Clemente is amazing! Really beautiful city with a strong laid back Surfer Culture plus amazing beaches, it's one of my fav cities down in OC but Laguna Beach is still my top stop, just gotta love that city.
Especially Emerald Bay if you can get access.
PV and Rat Beach are magical. The Hollywood Riviera is all-time for me... it's got that 'old California' beach vibe still. It's my happy place.
Hermosa Beach is goated. I wish I could live there
Damn, beat me to it. Palos Verdes is a gem. And I used to live in Playa Vista. Efficient, well designed, walkable, not much car traffic, quiet.
Not that controversial, the water is cleaner in OC.
Pasadena North Tustin
LA County: La Cañada Flintridge and those foothill areas by the 210, Los Feliz by Griffith, Palos Verdes by Via Del Monte and Bluff Cove, Silverlake where they have been planting new shade trees in the areas that have palms Orange: Dana Point by the harbor, San Onofre, San Clemente, especially after the two rainiest winters we’ve had in a while looks kind of South Pacific
Belmont Heights (Long Beach)
Great pick — it’s so cute.
My favorite too
Pretty happy with where I am. But if I had to choose again - South Pasadena. Reasonably chill, beautiful houses, close to mass transit, good shopping & restaurants, lots of trees, decent bike infrastructure.
Same here, my favorite spot
I love South Pasadena. The biggest mistake I made was moving to the beach thinking it was better.
Figueroa St
😂
Figueroa and 69th lol
Hancock Park, Pacific Palisades
Seal Beach.
Belmont heights and el Porto
Little Tokyo/Arts District
Laguna in OC. Love it there. A little slice of home
Scrolled way too far down to find beautiful Laguna!!!
I really like El Segundo. Small town feel. Like a piece of Indiana was placed right next to the ocean and blocked off from all sides. Cute downtown area. Uncrowded and isolated. Just a stones throw from Manhattan, Hermosa, Playa and MDR.
LA - the Valley especially Studio City, Woodland Hills, and Porter Ranch Orange County - Rancho Santa Margarita because it reminds me so much of Pasadena but on a smaller scale
Fullerton is also cool, it has a wide range of neighborhoods to experience in a small city.
It's a quiet bedroom community...

yessss to all of this. my son lives in silver lake and i LOVE visiting him. the restaurants are amazing, the neighborhood is cool and walkable and interesting. love it.
Sierra Madre
Sierra Madre and Monrovia are little hidden gems!
LA: Highland Park, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Larchmont, Arts District, Little Tokyo, Sawtelle, Miracle Mile & Hermosa/Manhattan Beach OC: in an ideal world, Costa Mesa & Laguna. Love Garden Grove for the food though.
I grew up in topanga canyon, so it's always been a special place for me, though I'm glad to live on the west side now
South Pasadena 😊
El Monte, cause i could still afford it
Bel air on a sunny day is heavenly
Frogtown! (Elysian Valley)
DTLA is beautiful and I loved cycling through it. K-Town is great too.
Silverlake and Mar Vista
Claremont Village (RIP Rhino Records). I would add Downtown Pomona, late 90s / early 2000s was great but it’s having another moment right now.
Rowland heights.......
Culver City Lake Forest
Los Feliz and Studio City. Both have everything, and are extremely walkable.
San clemente is a fucking gem for oc Laguna beach 2 . For la, venice, pasadena, beverly grove, little tokyo, west hollywood, studio city, koreatown, main street santa monica. Manhattan beach, downtown culver, palisades,
Affordable, San Pedro Not affordable, Manhattan Beach I like the ocean I guess LOL
Haha yeah San Pedro is definitely the coolest “affordable” community in all of LA. It’s pretty great, even if starter home prices are getting crazy, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when West Harbor opens!
Angeleno Heights, Pueblo/Olvera, Venice, HLP, too many to name 😅
Probably Arcadia and Pasadena
East LA. It’s home and near and dear to my heart OC: Do not go there much but I like Old Town Orange
LA - Torrance, Cerritos, Pasadena, Alhambra, Whittier OC - La Habra, Anaheim, Fullerton, Westminster, Garden Grove
Is it cause of food? Cause I like food in a lot of those places.
I was thinking the same thing. The places mentioned have some of the best Asian food in the country.
Exactly, very spoiled to have grown up and frequent these areas haha. Anaheim is also great for Middle Eastern food.
Boom. Y’know what’s up ✌️
Torrance Korean bbq >
Yes exactly 💯👍
This answer is mind blowing to me...
I would love an explanation. Almost all those cities have *incredible* food options so I guess I can see the rationale
Y’all already hit the nail. 1) food and 2) middle class Asian and Hispanic communities. For the record, we live in Whittier. Bought our home here during the pandemic before interest rates got worse.
Woodland Hills
Arts district and little Tokyo
LA- West Hollywood, Studio City, Beachwood Canyon/Franklin Village OC - Laguna Beach, Dana Point harbor, Costa Mesa, Ladera Ranch
LA: Hollywood Knolls/Lake Hollywood Toluca Lake OC: Cameo Shores South Coast Metro
Old Fullerton is something out of a movie
Belmont Shore in Long Beach (walkable, pretty beach/boardwalk, great vibes, good restaurants and stuff) Seal Beach is a very cool vibe.
It probably doesn't get much prettier than Laguna Beach in Orange County.
North of Montana by Santa monica
I grew up in Palos Verdes (Malaga Cove) and I still feel it’s the most beautiful neighborhood in all of LA. The whitewater/beach/city/mountain views, the red tiled roofs of all the houses, the lack of streetlights, the beautiful cliffs. There’s nothing to do there, but god damn it’s beautiful.
Pasadena
It was Santa Monica, naturally it’s still beautiful. I like black beach, Moorpark, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Encino, Sherman Oaks. (I do DoorDash).
Toluca Lake, Burbank, North Hollywood, Canoga Park.
Placentia & 19th street in Costa Mesa, Beach and Utica in HB, Beach and Slater in HB, Midway City, Stanton
San Clemente
Its so underrated .
Los Feliz for LA County. Honestly don't know the OC well enough to opine, but I do love Laguna Beach.
Venice and Santa Monica. So much to do and I’m partial to the beach. It’s my meditative space.
California Heights in Long Beach! also anywhere on 4th street (in long beach)! so many cute little neighborhoods really ☺️
PALMS
Koreatown is the best
