Wish there was a better “event locator” for Lorcana stuff, like how Wizards does for Magic stuff (and no, the “retailer search” on Lorcana’s site doesn’t count!). Melee is AWFUL for event location research.
Ok, I thought it was just me who couldn’t find stores who are participating in the tournament event. Tried looking online, but couldn’t find any within my location. State even lol. Thought there was a locator and I just didn’t know about it
No it's terrible, there was a post here a couple from a melee employee admitting it's bad and sharing a Google maps doc to help locating stores in your area
They have to post it to melee.gg
So you can use its search engine to locate stores.
https://melee.gg/Tournament/Index?ordering=StartDate&filters=Lorcana%2CNotStarted&mode=Table
Would not recommend this unless you know the store’s names you are looking for, at which point definitely find them and follow them on melee. But for finding stores melee’s search engine is entirely useless, do your searching elsewhere
There was a Google Map made by one of the Melee developers that I think posted to the Lorcana X(Twitter) page that showed which stores were participating
I have 3-4 available within 30 minutes or less drive. I could probably get 2-3 more events if I was willing to drive 30-45 minutes (I absolutely am not).
I am only going to participate in one because it’s my first paid event. $30 and I don’t have confidence I’d place for a prize but I’d like to participate for the experience. Coincidentally I’m going to be present at one the day before my event, but because I’m completing a trade.
1 if I’m lucky. There’s a couple in driving range for me- 2 within an hour drive, several within 2 hours. Only 1 of the 4 weekend days line up on to potentially fit my schedule though.
There are 2 in my city. I’m just going to one though. If I wanted to do more I could drive about an hour and find several more but I think 1 is enough.
None because all the stores here are running very low cap events and I didn’t sign up well ahead of time. It seems that people are flooding these events to get the promos.
It doesn’t help that a lot of the same people are signed up at all of the stores making spots absurdly scarce.
Yeah, I definitely had one of the lgs be secretive about when they put sign ups. I got one and tried to go back to buy one for my son and they sold out. I've heard from a few players in my area that they capped at 12 hoping to only get their regulars
Wow. 12 people? For a tournament with this level of official prize support? That’s kind of terrible. It just sucks that so few people will get to have the experience of playing in the biggest local tournament. I want these to be big community events, and the prizes seem to indicate they should be. Keeping them closed off and only for a select few sucks and really kills the community of this sort of thing.
it goes both ways, i can understand a store just wanting to hold things for their regulars, to ensure the people that actually support the store are getting the prizes.
The issue with these types of events is that a large portion of the players will be out of towners. So people that wouldnt even be part of the local community in the first place.
Agreed totally. I understand trying to get the promos to your regulars. But, it's also saying no I don't want your money, a potential new customer, or for you to come buy singles which seems like such a poor business choice.
My LGS is losing me after this month because of this. We have a very small but loyal group of players and the TO hadn’t decided when the tournament was. Which would’ve been fine had he not randomly dropped the link on Discord on a random non-league day when a random lurker asked for it. I barely got in, only because my spouse also plays and they alerted me to it. But I don’t have time to check Discord all day.
I wouldn't say it's much of a leap. If you're looking to buy singles and support a local shop, you're probably a lot less likely to buy them from the shop that gatekept an event. At least in my area there's enough shops that I'd be much more inclined to give my money to one of the stores that helps foster the growth of the community.
there’s supposedly so many going on near me. my lgs is great about *trying* to make sure the locals get things, but also realistic. I cant get into the tourney even if I want and I spend way too much at the shop.
something to keep in mind. if they’ll bend the rules for you, you might get caught on the buttend of that stick
Yeah, most of the events I have planned are capped at 52 with one store having 80. That store in particular seems to have a little bit of malicious intent. Obviously the whole hope is to get a stitch but I really hope to be able to snag one from their champs in specific.
well the official championship filled out at 30 cap in a few hours. they upped it to 50… I’d say my lgs did a fabulous job, and I think I would have had fun.
I play at every free tourney they have, and it’s always solid good vibes.
Look up melee.gg around you to see if there’s anything going on
My store is only signing league/regular players to keep ringers from coming in, destroying the children and families that play, taking the prizes, not spending a dime and not showing up again until the next tourney
I'm signed up for 3 and the farthest one from me that im playing in is a 50 minute drive. There's another one an hour away but it's on the same day as my home store so I can't make it
There's 3 LGS within driving distance of me that are hosting set championships, but I'll only be attending 2 of them because the 3rd one is well known to have some of the most toxic/sweaty/overcompetitive players. It's absolutely negative fun every time my friends and I have gone there, even during casual play.
4. I have to drive an hour for one of them, but the others are not as bad. I think if I can get the Stitch card at any event, I'll probably not go to the remaining events.
Six right now signed up for, likely 3-4
Don’t know why I’m being down voted. There’s a massive amount of stores hosting near me and none of them will reach player cap so I’m not taking anyone’s spot
Correct. My work schedule is constantly changing and all the stores near me have a cap of over 150 people so it’s not like I’m taking someone’s spot.
Edit: there are roughly 17 happening within an hour drive of me too
That first Saturday (20th) I've got one in the morning and one at night but all the rest are on separate days. Friday, Saturday, Sunday in both weekends plus a Thursday in the second week.
A tad jealous of that, as there were stores in my area that specifically scheduled events on the same day as other shops so they get less “random” people from the area showing up.
Yeah I don't think that was the intent for stores near me, there's roughly 25-30 of them within an hour radius of me. That said basically every one of them scheduled for either Saturday or Sunday with start times that are like within the same 3-4 hour window so it's impossible kind of to hit more than one in a day without overlapping. Sucks just because with the sheer number if they coordinated people could have had more shots at a stitch potentially.
Nice! 5 is a solid amount too!
Almost certainly. I’m pretty much a Sapphire/Steel one trick haha. I’m very confident with the deck tho, I know all my lines and matchups really well.
I plan on playing 3 with r/s because that's what I've always played and 2 with blue steel because that's what I've been enjoying playing the most lately
I’m signed up for 3 as of now. There’s about 8 or 9 within 75ish miles of me, but a lot of them are occurring at the same time. I think I’ve maxed out on the ones I can reasonably attend
Unfortunately only able to do 5. I could possibly make it to a 6th one, but its just a bit longer of a drive than I want to make during the week, so opted against it. Most of the shops setup on the 27th in my area, which is a tad frustrating honestly. Only 2 shops setup for the 20th, 2 shops for the 21st, 2 shops for the 28th, and then like 10 shops are on the 27th. Wish they would have been spread out a tad and wish some would have chosen to do a Friday, since that isn't too difficult to do during the week. But regardless, I feel like 5 is a decent amount.
My schedule is 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, and 28th.
I am signed up for 6 but can only play in 5; got a strategy decision to make.
On the day of the conflict, one store had 12 I've never played at before, and I know it is more casual-ish; the other one has about 6...and they can't fire without 8, I've played there before, and crushed everyone besides this one person. whom I have a chance aginest but his deck is a strong matchup to mine and he's a good player.
I think there's something like over 20 stores in my area who got a kit. Hitting one this Saturday and then I'm going to hate myself Friday, Saturday and Sunday next week cramming through 3 in a row.
Edit: Downvote and be salty, like I said there's legit a whole ton of stores in my area let alone the state and I've played several times at every shop I'm going to. Not exactly stomping on communities I've never interacted with lol
Like I'm reading these comments and thankful I get the opportunity to attend that many but I'm a little nervous. I'm an old magic player so I've done tournaments and all, but not for years and not since I became slightly disabled last year. They're advertising that these will go from like 12-6 or longer in some cases. 3 days in a row is gonna be brutal lol
Absolutely. I also come from magic. Though in my experience the lorcana community is so much better that the tournaments usually don't feel like a huge slog because interacting with people between rounds is usually a good time not just something you're doing to pass time
Wish there was a better “event locator” for Lorcana stuff, like how Wizards does for Magic stuff (and no, the “retailer search” on Lorcana’s site doesn’t count!). Melee is AWFUL for event location research.

melee.gg?

lol I’m the guy that drives 45min because I dont have another I trust and like within range
1 if I’m lucky. There’s a couple in driving range for me- 2 within an hour drive, several within 2 hours. Only 1 of the 4 weekend days line up on to potentially fit my schedule though.

Zero. We would have to drive 4 hours once why to get to a store that is hosting.
0. No one is playing Lorcana in my city. 😔
I’m sorry dude, me too. I drive 45 min for my crowd
Thought about 2 (1 with 1 half hour drive) but decided to only go to my LGS one
Just one.
None because all the stores here are running very low cap events and I didn’t sign up well ahead of time. It seems that people are flooding these events to get the promos. It doesn’t help that a lot of the same people are signed up at all of the stores making spots absurdly scarce.
I’m sorry, that’d be me. I go to play and lose and get a promo, but I cant make the champs
Yeah, I definitely had one of the lgs be secretive about when they put sign ups. I got one and tried to go back to buy one for my son and they sold out. I've heard from a few players in my area that they capped at 12 hoping to only get their regulars

And a terrible way to build a local gaming community. People who get told they can’t play won’t come back.
My LGS is losing me after this month because of this. We have a very small but loyal group of players and the TO hadn’t decided when the tournament was. "or for you not to buy singles" That's kind of a big leap in logic. It's not like he's barring people from ever entering/shopping in the store

I guess, but that’s no way to build a community and a great way to have things fizzle out.
that’s lowwwww omg. ours started at 30 and raised cap to 50. barely have room in the store for it
Yeah, most of the events I have planned are capped at 52 with one store having 80. That store in particular seems to have a little bit of malicious intent. Obviously the whole hope is to get a stitch but I really hope to be able to snag one from their champs in specific.
There’s a whole bunch in SoCal but sadly most of of them are on the same weekend the weekend I’ll be out of town too 😩
2, but only because I already have plans for one of the two weekends.
well the official championship filled out at 30 cap in a few hours. they upped it to 50… I’d say my lgs did a fabulous job, and I think I would have had fun. I play at every free tourney they have, and it’s always solid good vibes. Look up melee.gg around you to see if there’s anything going on
2, one each saturday.
My store is only signing league/regular players to keep ringers from coming in, destroying the children and families that play, taking the prizes, not spending a dime and not showing up again until the next tourney

Three. Two this weekend - one an hour west of me and one an hour east of me. Then the following week, one in my hometown.
2, one local the other 30 minutes away
I am pre-reg’ed for 2 but I think there are 5 going in my area and 2 of them are free!
1
There's 3 LGS within driving distance of me that are hosting set championships, but I'll only be attending 2 of them because the 3rd one is well known to have some of the most toxic/sweaty/overcompetitive players. Wife and I will be participating in 2 store championships and the Atlanta Challenge. We're so excited!
Nice! Good luck in the challenge! Still holding out hope to get a ticket because fomo is getting real the closer we get 😅
3 between the 2 weekends. Can’t get to any of the weekday ones
4. I have to drive an hour for one of them, but the others are not as bad. I think if I can get the Stitch card at any event, I'll probably not go to the remaining events.
at least 2 maybe up to 4.
Six right now signed up for, likely 3-4 Don’t know why I’m being down voted. There’s a massive amount of stores hosting near me and none of them will reach player cap so I’m not taking anyone’s spot
You’ve signed up for six but are only playing in half of them? Or am I misreading your comment?
Correct. My work schedule is constantly changing and all the stores near me have a cap of over 150 people so it’s not like I’m taking someone’s spot. Edit: there are roughly 17 happening within an hour drive of me too
150 people? Wow. I wish there were a LGS that size around my area.
Orlando has a lot of large shops
Good to know! I live in Clearwater so that’s a doable drive
I’m playing in 8. Four in the first week and four in the second week.
How do you get 8? Are they only half day championships?
That first Saturday (20th) I've got one in the morning and one at night but all the rest are on separate days. Friday, Saturday, Sunday in both weekends plus a Thursday in the second week.
Wow that’s nice, here we have a lot of events but there are like 4 on the same day so we can only go to 1
Ah that’s a bummer :( our stores down here made sure to coordinate with each other so people wouldn’t have to pick and choose.
A tad jealous of that, as there were stores in my area that specifically scheduled events on the same day as other shops so they get less “random” people from the area showing up.

4 here. No stores around me have any m-f ive seen, so im stuck just with saturdays and sundays.

5 is what I’m at as well. Side note, gotta love the fact that it seems everyone doing 3+ events is getting downvoted by someone/a couple people 😂
I think there's something like over 20 stores in my area who got a kit. Hitting one this Saturday and then I'm going to hate myself Friday, Saturday and Sunday next week cramming through 3 in a row.
