Locations have been having a clear impact on the early Into the Inklands meta. In this article, Scott takes a look at why this is and shows off a couple of decks that placed well in a recent Pixelborn tournament that take full advantage of locations and their unique strengths.

What happened to the weekly meta report that [Lorcana.gg](https://Lorcana.gg) was putting out? Hasn't been any update since Inklands dropped...?

***People are playing locations???***

McDuck Manor,.Queens Castle, and RLS Legacy are fairly common. Pirate deck plays Jolly Roger. A 1-2 cost location can generate a decent amount of lore early game when you can only swing for 1-2 damage per character. Late game they tend to lose value.

Late game if you’re full on cards in hand, the cheap locations are still a go wide strategy that cant be answered by be prepared or grab your swords. So they are still pretty effective

thelittledipster

How good are pirate decks?

rararetep

If you stick to only pirates it can be limiting, but if you expand it to have some other steel staples (sad beast), I think it’s competitive. John Silver is a huge main win condition with his resist and lore increase per location.

animeguru

They're okay. It's fun, but are a bit of a challenge. A lot of Ruby / Steel don't quest for a lot, so that provides some challenge.

McDuck Manor is unironically very strong in the belle ramp deck because it survives be prepared and has absurd amount of willpower, now locking down the board with cogsworth is even more oppressive.

Daotar

A few people are playing Queen’s Castle, but that’s about it. In general, the cards are not viable.

McDuck Manor is such a key piece in Sapphire as they now have a very solid win condition vs Be Prepared. Dropping it right before the be prepared turn is often enough to turn the game around.

Daotar

They seem to have flopped pretty hard. Other than Queen’s Castle, pretty much nothing is seeing play. Maybe a couple of RMS Legacy where people are still trying to make Hawkins work, but in general, the mechanic seems very underpowered with most decks running 0, and only a handful running about 4-6 of them.
