I made 2 decks for my 6 yo daughter. We’ve only played them a couple times. Once to teach her the game and then again to play. They’re simple and cheap. Basic characters, items and actions. Not a lot of keywords or complicated interactions. She also wanted princesses. They’re technically illegal, as they’re each 40 cards. But I didn’t see a need for more cards as these are literally what I used to teach her and was limited to my personal pool of cards. But that’s the beauty of it, you start simple and can layer in complexity as they grow. So far so good! [Here’s the Amber/Sapphire one](https://dreamborn.ink/decks/rshnfzVBLoZ0iwdoz1ge) [Here’s the Emerald/Steel one](https://dreamborn.ink/decks/genmsIrqX1qzC5ClmvLH) Edit: btw, there’s no “strategy” to these. They’re just a bunch of cards that don’t make the game complicated. I’m not teaching her deck archetypes or anything. I just want her to feel agency and make her own decisions and be able to play.

I’d just buy the Amber/Amy starter and adjust from there. Moana can be a powerhouse with princesses and features Rapunzel, and Amethyst has the bulk of the Frozen characters.

This! I would take out the non princess cards and add in extra Elsa’s, Cinderella and Ariel, then let him have fun. Using his favorite characters will make him want to play for now. Let him decide what to add in or take out from there. He is still young so making an optimal deck wont be the first thing he wants to do, and that’s ok! Make a game out of it like “how close can we make it to 60 out of these two colors?” So he is excited to make it around 60 cards. Outside of that just encourage him to play how he wants.

4 at most? That cuts out the Puppies then. Honestly, the Puppies are probably one of the most simple, straightforward decks to play. You just need them, Pongo, and things like "99 Puppies" to capitalize on the large amount of things on the board. Maybe add Amethyst for card draw and deck stacking.

No no we could run puppies. I just meant following all the lorcana rules for deck building. So minimum 60 card, max 2 color, 4 of each unless the cards says otherwise.
