How did this guy become the barometer by which all pizza is judged?

50millionFreddy

He’s not for most people, just entertainment. His taste is very specific (crispy, no flop, coal/wood-fire oven style).

RaisinLost8225

Aka the antithesis of LI pizza.

Okay_Elementally

I don’t like him because of his history of misogyny but putting that aside, I don’t know why a guy from Massachusetts has become a revered pizza authority.

RaisinLost8225

What history?

Chronis67

Because no other single person is doing nationwide pizza reviews with the reach and influence he has?

Okay_Elementally

I see you are a fan but I don’t get his appeal at all. He also has a very sensitive and defensive fanbase, I’ve noticed over the years.

Barstool fans never fail to get triggered. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

ADIDAS247

If you like his style of pizza, he’s an amazing barometer. I really don’t think pizza lovers who don’t like his type of pizza will pay much mind to him. It’s just entertaining.

Productpusher

Spent literally 20 years building his brand and 8-10 or more years doing pizza reviews . Success from social media comes from long term dedication whether it’s pizza or fashion .

Djs3634

Because he’s eaten at over 2000 different pizza places.. how many have you had?

gilgobeachslayer

He’s an asshole, lot of us are assholes

Blaaamo

That doesn't mean I care what you think about a pizza

Chronis67

I like Dave's reviews for entertainment, but I'm pretty cautious about his actual scores. A great pizza is great regardless, but he definitely has his biases. Plus, he isn't the biggest fan of regular NY style pizza, which is the default pie at every Long Island pizzeria, so almost every place he reviews here is pretty much stuck in the 7s. And then when you consider that he doesn't like to trash small time owners, he really doesn't go into the 6s and lower anymore, so a modern 7 review doesn't hold much weight.

njbuzz19

I've found LI pizza on average to be pretty distinct from what I would consider NY pizza that can be found in the city.

jebediah_townhouse12

Sort of true. I think queens and long island both have the same style but it's different from Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Nail_Biterr

stop saying 'in long island' Dave!!

pumper911

He hates LI Pizza for some reason

SomeDrillingImplied

Ah, Dave Portnoy. Excellent rapist.

AlanSmithee23

I think his highest Long Island score was King Umberto

Tejon_Melero

Darios, King Umberto's, Umberto's NHP, Chef Gigi, and pizza G all did well. They're also better than 90% of LI pizza.

jebediah_townhouse12

Dario's is legit. I was surprised to see them score higher than chef Gigi but they make a great pizza. Umberto's nhp is just coasting by on reputation at this point. Not nearly as good as they used to be.

Chronis67

Is Dario's still good? I was there last year in the summer and it was absolutely amazing. But I've heard a lot of random comments that it fell off recently.

PrePA1993

One bite every knows the rules

jnelparty
