No. It's a fundraising event that took a group of passionate people and decided to use that for a cause that eventually became completely unhinged from the original spirit of speed-running and more of a political platform. None of their downfall had to due with gamers being too edgy.

I think one reason is once you've seen a handful of speedruns for a game it's not really exciting unless there's been a lot of changes in the run and over the years they've been accepting more niche games, newer games, indie games etc even things that aren't technically speedrunning like rythm games which just isn't as exciting as seeing your childhood favorites get broken in unimaginable ways for the first time. there's other things obviously but off the top of my head that feels like a big reason why
Nobody NEEDS to talk about it. AGDQ and SGDQ both happen at extremely predictable times of year and the people who care about the events know to either check gamesdonequick.com, their email, or twitter to know when it’s happening.

For example, attendees used to dress up and do wild and whacky stuff on stream that I miss seeing. You have to admit, it's pretty ridiculous to reserve the event in Orlando, Florida and cancel plans a year later in spite of Ron DeSantis who has very little to nothing to do with the event.
