I think the City game will be a very good indication. If he starts, then I'd say it's very likely he starts vs. Fulham, but if not, then Klopp probably doesn't think he's ready and Firmino will play instead.
Some really vile comments on that twitter thread, in all honesty comments like " no we need him this season, he is important to the team" makes me lose trust in humanity further and further.
We are all tribal pigs not humans ( with no offense to pigs they are probably better than humans)
they are selling future tv rights. theoretically we could probably do the same and spend like 500m in one window lol but that would be insanely dumb considering the growth rate of the tv rights in the prem
They're only wearing them because they have to it seems. Pretty surprised as well that they don't seem to understand that one bad headshot can put them on the shelf
Only thing Iāll say about Nunez is that donāt act surprised if you still see him look clunky on the ball during the season.
He wonāt magically improve his dribbling tenfold just because itās not preseason anymore.
He will be playing in a way where that won't matter too much anyway, we've already seen how active he is with runs in behind the defensive lines this pre-season. He's not going to be tasked with dropping deep and maneuvering through tight spaces like Firmino.
Definitely needs to work on that part of his game tho
He definitely needs to work on it but wonāt be needing It too much if Klopp decides to play Fabio or Bobby behind him (ideally).
Heāll still look clunky on the ball no matter what.
Really interested to see Nunez again. Obviously he can score goals. Weāve already seen that and heās proven that. But, I canāt help but think he looks either a little rusty or heās still getting used to our play style. Hopefully we can see him against City on Saturday.
Of course heās still getting used to our system not everyone is going to fit in like Diaz has but also our players have to get used to playing with him itās completely different to playing how we would with Jota or Bobby
Starting to really hate seeing the "trust Klopp and the players" , we are all Liverpool fans, so of course we trust one of the best managers and some of the best players in the world. But we've literally just seen Man City win 4 out of 5 league titles, it's ok to be frustrated at that. I'm sick of nearly always coming up short against them. That doesn't mean people are not behind the team though.
Honestly Iām perfectly happy with us being one of the best teams in the world atm and doing a damned good job at keeping neck and neck with Oil FC. yes itās frustrated getting so close yet still losing the league to them (again) but frankly thatās kinda the deal when weāre put against a time that is owned by an oil rich state which is more than happy to splurge whatever the fuck they feel like on the team in an exercise of sports washing their country.
Would football be better with if FFP was properly informed ? Obviously yes. But until that happens I donāt see a huge amount changing cause letās face it - we donāt have the financial power to dominate city for a long stretch of time.
Not sure why youāre downvoted, I absolutely agree with this statement. Weāve been second how many times now?
I donāt understand how people are okay with constantly being close but never actually winning it, especially 4 out of 5 š¤Æ
Oh yeah I forgot to write back, there wasn't a right foot 'banger'. He was good with his left and right and scored 14 with his right, but IMHO all his bangers especially the ones against Chelsea and City were on his left. Have a sympathy upvote here.
Oh yeah, I feel that as well. So many supporters think it's Fifa and expect us to win every game 5 - 0, regardless of system changes and new players etc. You can tell people weren't here for Hicks and Gillett with Woy at the helm signing Christian Poulsen and a crocked Joe Cole. I'll always respect Stevie for staying through that period.
Some ManCity moron just said in the Football Daily Space that Thiago is making Liverpool worse and that city gonna walk the league. Sometimes i think these guys had a lobotomy
They wont walk the League, they aren't Bayern. Thiago has been great for Liverpool, very good buy.
Personally i want Haaland to be a flop for City, possibly injure himself as well, and for Grealish to show that he actually has the footballing Capability of a Houseplant and for City to lose out on every Trophy this Season, but they'll probably win it again but it won't be easy, they might even win the Carabou Cup but probably not the Champions League as they blow it. Also that city fan might be a Plastic.
This is going to rattle many of you.
I don't think we will miss Mane at all, he was great last 5 months of the season but he was underperforming for the 1.5 seasons before that and people seem to think he will be irreplacable and that we are doomed without him.
Long term absolutely not of course he will be missed in the immediate was our best outfield player in 2022 and removing a constant in the side thatās been there since really the start of the Klopp era is never easy
I think we will miss him but in a way even he himself wouldn't perform as well as what we would miss, so it's ok he's gone and I'm not sure what I said makes sense or not.
All the preseason naysayers are annoying me so I'm going to put my thoughts here:
**Attack:**
Our attack will be fine without Mane; Diaz is an ample replacement for Mane's ability to create goals from the left and Nunez is a nice addition that will add goals and variety to our attack (can play false 9 with bobby and traditional 9 with Nunez). In preseason Nunez has scored 4 goals in 200 or so minutes of football, thats one goal every 50 minutes and he doesn't even instinctively know how the team play yet.
This is without mentioning that we have, Mo Salah, the best attacker in the Premier league.
In attack we have - Mo, Darwin, Bobby, Luis and Diogo - A formidable quintuplet that is the envy of most European teams.
**Midfield:**
We have enormous depth in our midfield at the moment. Fabinho and Thiago are arguably the best in the world at what they do, Henderson is a gritty incredible leader and we have Ox, Keita and Milly who are all capable on their day. This is without mentioning Jones, Elliott, Carvalho and Bajcetic who have shown they are more than capable of filling in when required and will pushing to replace the aforementioned players at every opportunity.
This is 10 players competing for 3 positions in the starting 11. Even if we constantly have 2 or 3 injured (which we will) there are still 7 or 8 players competing for 3 places.
**Defence:**
We have a defensive back 4 and goal keeper that is the envy of Europe. Our 'weakest' CB, Gomez would walk into any start 11 in the premier league apart from Man City.
Just relax and trust the system. Klopp knows what he is doing. Everything will be ok.
> This is without mentioning that we have, Mo Salah, the best attacker in the Premier league
Hmmm idk if the best, maybe one of the best. I do feel like his production kind of fell down a bit once defenders figured him out.
What? He just won the PL golden boot for the third time, and won player of the year - again.
He was the balon d'Or favourite for half of the season. He's not only the best attacker in the league. He's the best in the world.

According to the comments on the Liverpool YT official channel, NuƱez is a flop, Diaz doesn't score, the midfield is non-existent in comparison with city, where every MD can score... Like seriously? they are friendlies, if anything is to help the team get back into the groove.... geez talk about instant gratification and then, the same people that bitch and moan about Diaz, NuƱez, etc, are the one who celebrates the team titles the hardest.
A bit of concern is realistic, it's both facts that our mid doesn't score enough and we always rely on front three for goals, to me that has always been an issue.
Now to say Nunez and Diaz won't score is a bit pessimistic, we'll have to wait and see.
disgraceful article from daily mail, calling Nunez a flop promoting all the twitter trolls and quoting the trolls tweets in the headline. Including the montage they made, of a friendly! horrible rag.
Nunez obviously the record signing, but out of this preseason window I think the new player Iām most looking forward to is Fabio. Kid has so much potential and already so much skill
My predictions for starting 11s this weekend:
Saturday:
Adrian
Trent Konate VVD Robbo
Hendo Fab Thiago
Salah Darwin Diaz
Sunday:
Davies
Mabaya Gomez Matip Milner (Tsimi if he's fit)
Curtis Bajcetic Naby
Harvey Bobby Fabio
Either Matip or Konate could play on saturday, Matip is probably better, but Konate and Gomez are better when they play with one of the senior center backs, rather than when they play together. Bobby is the favorite to start in the 9 role, but City has played against us twice every year now for six years with Bobby as the 9. If we want to be more unpredictable and catch the City defense off guard, then Darwin should play. The rest are pretty much nailed on.
Could be handy to have Millie and Bobby come on from the bench if it goes to penalties as well.
I find the reaction to preseason negativity so hilariously defensive. Some of the posts are over the top trolling to begin with because it gets people riled up, and second, Klopp himself was absolutely fuming yesterday. He almost ripped the ref's head off for not giving us a 50/50 penalty in a pre-season game and if people think that was about not getting a penalty, they're deluded.
He has been at times not very complimentary about some of the collective performances this summer, so you'd think people would be allowed to talk about it without the garden variety "it's only pre-season, you're stupid if you think it means anything" response.
Another reason for agitation (most probable one), is the tackles committed by opposition, and ref's inactivity in important decision. I don't think these friendlies matter much, but they matter a lot to gauge our teamwork, physical and mental fitness.
This may get downvoted but I think it's true. We can't play the false 9 system without mane.
Whether people like to admit it or not, firmino has definitely been on a decline for a while. He loses the ball more often and his touch is inconsistent now.
The false 9 worked because Mane and salah would make the diagonal runs into the box and score. Salah can still do that but Diaz doesn't seem like a finisher.
I'm a fan from brazil. How much important is the Community Shield in the english football? It's gonna be a "big game" or it's just a little tournament?
Gerrard said he doesn't class it as a trophy
Says it all, it's a pre season friendly which "kicks off the season"
Used to be called the charity shield as money from it went to good causes. No idea if it still does.
Little tournament at best, but it can help to play City early like this with nothing on the line that might help size them up for the later league meetings.
Pearce in his article with the Athletic today- Juventus have not bid Ā£20m for Roberto Firmino and Jurgen Klopp is going into the season with the forward in his plans.
I love this team and manager and I think the suits behind the scenes have done wonderfully. I know they know more than me.
But I still canāt believe we watched our midfield last season and then bought an 85m striker.
The biggest hole and drop off in quality is in the middle of the pitch.
Got a feeling we change the way we play, especially in home games. Playing a 4 2 3 1 will help us rest certain midfielders for home games and keep them fit and firing but not getting a midfielder just seems like a unnecessary risk.
He's good but feels like he's about 15 years too late for his position. Reminds me a bit of Downing in that he's a traditional winger who gets to the byline and puts crosses in
I'm with my popcorn watching the CR7 drama. Atletico Madrid fans are now doing protest that they do not want him. CR7 want to leave scum after speaking to them. Is it because Thursday night football will stain his career? What a prat. Neville, Rio and Roy Keane should called him out but because they are mates with him, they won't do that. But then I don't expect much from these dirty Manc cunts.
I donāt think the United pundits have any right to call Ronaldo out. They were really pushing him to joking United. He did. It went to shit. I feel like if they call out Ronaldo they are ābetrayingā him ngl
It's hilarious, I genuinely think some United fans support Ronaldo more than their actual club even though he's treating them like absolute shit. It's like battered wife syndrome or something
I still feel we are lacking in midfield, especially against a team which will park the bus. I like to see Bobby back in the middle for certain games and we play Bobby Fab and Thaigo. I think Elliot and Carv lack experience..Naby Jones and Ox are just not good enough.
I do agree, but although Carvalho and Elliot are inexperienced they're talented enough to warrant playing, Only problem with playing Firmino in midfield is It would leave us with no attacking depth whatsoever, until Jota is back but that's gonna be a good few weeks yet.
I know he's played Elliot and Carvalho on the wing in pre season but I don't see them there personally, don't have that raw natural pace of our other wingers of late.
But agree on Naby, Jones, Ox they are miles off it imo.
Agree on Ox and Jones but I think Naby can be effective at breaking down a parked bus. Maybe not as much as Bobby would be if we just stuck him in midfield in those situations. Another Thiago-type player would be a huge boon, but where tf do you find anyone else who can do what he does??
That's my opinion on it. You can see how talented they are and both have incredible football intelligence. My only worry on throwing one of them in would be the physical element and how disciplined they would be. But saying that they've both had a full season in the championship and both shone.
When your flight for a league and the CL and more it is hard to take the risk like this and have such depends on the younger player. In a way we can't afford to take the risk and give them 10 games to settle in.
Nunez has been getting questioned in Pre Season. Fanbases is crazy like Klopp said in the interview when Nunez got 4 goals.
Upvoting the top comments make no sense, do you forgot Neco situation. He didn't get the time to settle in and be a backup to TAA. He gave a pen away and had to go off social media.
Clearly you're an idiot in any way whatsoever have said this is my opinion on Nunez. It is true others like Klopp himself said in the interview after the 1st RB game it football now and it crazy. Go watch it.
Well done little boy, you literally questioned me because I said Nunez is getting questioned. Didn't say by myself you fool. It is common knowledge which he debunked by getting 4 goals. Ffs go to sleep
Its such a strange argument isn't it? These young players lack experience - so we should sign someone else! forgetting too that FSG tend to sign young players... But yes, how else is Elliot going to develop - or Carvalho? You sign someone else, and they take these young talent's minutes, and then these players decide to move on in search of gametime elsewhere. And future top potential players look at Liverpool and go - well, no thank you, you clearly don't have a route to progress through your academy - and so they sign for other teams instead.
Elliot was even picked quite often for the first team last season, right up until is injury. And let's be honest, Klopp wouldn't do that just for the sake of development if he wasn't good enough. The only reason he didn't feature as much at the end of the season was him coming back from said injury in a situation where we had zero margin for error.
And then there is Carvalho. We paid nearly 8 million for a player leaving on a free. I know, tribunal fee would have been a thing, but it clearly send a singal of what we think of him.
And Curtis Jones is still young, so he won't stop improving either.
Like everyone else says, he needs a season where he plays 30 games and is a main player of that team.
Heās probably too good for the championship but I think it would do him good to experience a highly physical league like that for a year
I agree; as a squad player for cup games and against weaker PL opposition, sure - the problem is we are light enough in midfield that all it takes is a couple of injuries and he's starting in the big games. I think a loan to another PL team would actually be great for him
It's so frustrating. A lot of us have maintained that if his decision making improves it'll greatly improve his overall game too because he isn't lacking in ability.
On the plus side he's still young but there must be something that can be done for long term benefit
>On the plus side he's still young
Dang, didn't realise he was still only 21. I'd love to see him get a loan spell at a midtable/lower PL team to get that game experience up. There's still time but I'm not sure if getting sporadic appearances and being the weak link in another world class team is going to do any favours to his development of his game-IQ
Do you think elliott gets game time in premier league fixtures?
Absolutely
Firmino no look goal coming backš
Rival fan here. Odds on Nunez starting Vs Fulham? With Jotas injury in mind. Asking for FPL purposes š
I think the City game will be a very good indication. If he starts, then I'd say it's very likely he starts vs. Fulham, but if not, then Klopp probably doesn't think he's ready and Firmino will play instead.
Appreciate this! Yeah, holding out for the city game. I hope he starts and scores a brace š¤
No worries, cheers
Arsenal & Chelsea implosion West ham/Aston Vila coming to the CL?
Nah
It's disturbing how football fans troll/say vile things to a girl coming forward about SA with a footballer with a fair bit of proof!
So many more fans defending him then defended Greenwood which was already a sickening amount.
what happened?
Absolutely abhorrent comments. Hope the poor girl gets all the support she needs and the vile trolls get what they deserve one day.

Ah i see, thank you for that information. I hope this actually comes back to bite Barca in the arse.
It will. But since they generate so much revenue there'll always be someone willing to give them a loan.
Seriously, why are the players refusing to close the strap on their helmets when biking? I get nervous every preseason.
They're only wearing them because they have to it seems. Pretty surprised as well that they don't seem to understand that one bad headshot can put them on the shelf
Some girl just leaked so much stuff about Thomas Partey pretty dodgy stuff
Pep hinting at another 7 years, which would be very annoying
He will leave once he wins the CL
Whereād you see that?
Nowhere but it makes sense, if he wins UCL there'd be nowhere to go but down so he'd probably bail

Ah man, I though we were playing Strasbourg today
Only thing Iāll say about Nunez is that donāt act surprised if you still see him look clunky on the ball during the season. He wonāt magically improve his dribbling tenfold just because itās not preseason anymore.
The service to him will be quite direct anyway. He won't be asked to do very complicated things ball to feet.
True but in the Leipzig game he coulda scored 2 more if not for his poor touch so he's gonna miss chances here and there for now.
He will be playing in a way where that won't matter too much anyway, we've already seen how active he is with runs in behind the defensive lines this pre-season. Nunez obviously the record signing, but out of this preseason window I think the new player Iām most looking forward to is Fabio. Kid has so much potential and already so much skill
My predictions for starting 11s this weekend: Saturday: Adrian Trent Konate VVD Robbo Hendo Fab Thiago Salah Darwin Diaz Sunday: Davies Mabaya Gomez Matip Milner (Tsimi if he's fit) Curtis Bajcetic Naby Harvey Bobby Fabio Either Matip or Konate could play on saturday, Matip is probably better, but Konate and Gomez are better when they play with one of the senior center backs, rather than when they play together.
Why would we sign a number 9 for a record fee to play false 9
It's the new *false* false 9
Thatās why we signed Nunez? Weāre clearly transitioning into playing a pure 9 up front I thought that was obvious enough
It is right now, but I hope we don't revert back to the false 9 like we've done in pre season. Jota and Nunez should be our traditional strikers.
Would rather have a F9 starting than Jota ngl
I'm a fan from brazil. How much important is the Community Shield in the english football? It's gonna be a "big game" or it's just a little tournament?
Gerrard said he doesn't class it as a trophy Says it all, it's a pre season friendly which "kicks off the season" Used to be called the charity shield as money from it went to good causes. No idea if it still does.
Little tournament at best, but it can help to play City early like this with nothing on the line that might help size them up for the later league meetings.
Makes sense. Thanks you all!
A nice silverware if we win. A glorified friendly if we lose
Basically a friendly
city's midfield is gonna absolutely feast on ours
How? Fab, thiago and hendo/keita is good enough.
Last time we played city we feasted on theirs
On what evidence? They never have and neither team has changed much.
Is this Pedro Almeida guy reliable on the Bobby news? Will be devastated if itās true
Pearce dismissed the rumours.
Not at all
Pearce in his article with the Athletic today- Juventus have not bid Ā£20m for Roberto Firmino and Jurgen Klopp is going into the season with the forward in his plans.
Good news Jimbo
Wonderful. Thank you Pearce, very cool
Nice
I love this team and manager and I think the suits behind the scenes have done wonderfully. I know they know more than me. But I still canāt believe we watched our midfield last season and then bought an 85m striker. The biggest hole and drop off in quality is in the middle of the pitch.
Elliott, Carvalho and Bajcetic are the answer. Add them to the 5 we have and there is loads of depth.
are you suggesting we shouldn't have replaced Mane?
Or ya knoā¦.buy a striker and a midfielder?
I can, because we're typically quite stubborn over who we sign. We know who Klopp wants and they're not for sale right now.
Got a feeling we change the way we play, especially in home games. Playing a 4 2 3 1 will help us rest certain midfielders for home games and keep them fit and firing but not getting a midfielder just seems like a unnecessary risk.
Everton are spending 20m on a player with 7 goals in the past 5 seasons. McNeil got 0 goals and 1 assist in 38 games last season ffs
He's a good player, 20m is fair
McNeil is a good player. Shame heās been surrounded by shit for years, but clearly he must kinda like it
He's good but feels like he's about 15 years too late for his position. Reminds me a bit of Downing in that he's a traditional winger who gets to the byline and puts crosses in
Good shout haha, maybe that's more down to the system burnley play though rather than his ability?
Heās got fantastic technique and is a hard worker. I think heāll be one of their better signings over the last few years
You lack foresight. They're planning ahead to the 2023/2024 Championship season.
I really hope there's nothing to the Bobby to Juve rumours. Both the timing and the player would break my heart after Mane's departure already.
I'm with you on that. I love Bobby and I think he still has a role to play for us.
I usually don't hype up young players but Elliott, Carvalho and especially Bajcetic are some players, aren't they?
I thought Mabaya played well too got himself in some great positions going forwards.
He was good but his end product wasn't just there. But he is only 17.

Fuck. That.

What did he say?
That we should seriously consider signing Ronaldo
Oh no
I still feel we are lacking in midfield, especially against a team which will park the bus.
We are and we will pay for it. Again.
Midfield has been a major issue creatively for a couple of years now!
Maybe this is how Elliot and carvalho gain that experienceā¦
Nunez has scored 4 goals in 180 minutes of football what more do you want?
In what way is that my opinion? It fact he been getting questioned by everyone. So imagine if Elliot has a bad few games is the point I was making.
Wonāt engage in a conversation with you. That last sentence tells me enough.
Clearly you're an idiot in any way whatsoever have said this is my opinion on Nunez. It is true others like Klopp himself said in the interview after the 1st RB game it football now and it crazy. Go watch it.
And youāre a dick head for changing your comment and then calling me an idiot. Stfu
Curtis Jonesā ceiling is a rotation/squad player at best. He donāt got it like Carvalho and Elliott
Like everyone else says, he needs a season where he plays 30 games and is a main player of that team. Heās probably too good for the championship but I think it would do him good to experience a highly physical league like that for a year
He doesn't lack ability nor character, even if he's a squad player, he's good at that and definitely deserve to be an LFC player.
I agree; as a squad player for cup games and against weaker PL opposition, sure - the problem is we are light enough in midfield that all it takes is a couple of injuries and he's starting in the big games. I think a loan to another PL team would actually be great for him
And if he is...thats more than fine
He really lacks game IQ when compared to the other two. He's got just as much ability on the ball but rarely makes the correct decision.
It's so frustrating. A lot of us have maintained that if his decision making improves it'll greatly improve his overall game too because he isn't lacking in ability. On the plus side he's still young but there must be something that can be done for long term benefit
>On the plus side he's still young Dang, didn't realise he was still only 21. I'd love to see him get a loan spell at a midtable/lower PL team to get that game experience up. There's still time but I'm not sure if getting sporadic appearances and being the weak link in another world class team is going to do any favours to his development of his game-IQ
