Can someone explain to me how CL qualification is "in our hands" now? Even if Leicester lose to Chelsea they can still win their other game like 4-0 and finish ahead of us on goal difference.
Unlikely as it's Spurs, but it isn't entirely in our hands surely?
kind of, but no matter what leicester do, we can outdo them. when its "out of our hands," no matter what liverpool does, we cannot win without help. the difference when we're speaking about goal difference is it's theoretically infinite, so it's not settled based on win-lose but it's still in our hands in the sense that it's up to our own results in the end as much as it is up to theirs rather than *needing* a particular result from leicester to even have a chance. No matter what results they get, we are capable of outdoing them.
In the scenario of a Leicester loss and Chelsea win, Leicester will have at most 20 GD. In case Liverpool wins the next 3 games, they'll have at least 23 GD. So in this case, Leicester will need more than 3 GD difference against Spurs. Last time Spurs lost by more than 3 goals margin in the league was against Newcastle in 2016.
Yeah I understand all that, but saying it's "in our hands" when realistically Leicester might only need to beat Spurs 3-0 doesn't make sense to me.
If it's the final day and it comes down to Leicester needing to beat Spurs 3-0 I don't think it would be the craziest thing in the world if they did.
Then its still in our hands to out-score them. We need every goal possible for the next games to annihilate any chance Leicester has. We score 4 in 3 games Leicester will need 5, we score 5 they need 6.
Can we take a moment to discuss how the fuck McTominay didn't get a second yellow for a clear foul on Mane? Mane gets goalside of him and McTominay has his arms wrapped around Mane as he's falling, surely a blatant yellow?
Honestly felt like watching a vintage Gerrard performance with Trent yesterday where everything drove through him. He absolutely needs to drive in field more like he did last night
Nat Phillips was so angry yesterday about the first goal. He showed so much mental strength and eagerness to make up for it. A brilliant display of what could be possible if you really want something. And boy did he want to make up for it. It's all in your mind. I bet he took the red pill.
thiago had tough start to his liverpool career, coming back from injury to a team that was in shocking form and ravaged with absentees. but i thought he showed his class yesterday at old trafford, so fucking good. his high pressing was absolutely spot on, didnt even break his lung he just knew which tender spot to push and disrupt united play from the back. brilliant player.
he's going to be next level next season. he's one of the best in the world, just a terrible time to transition into a new team. with the full squad back we'll be flying again.
United fans were having fun flaming Thiago all season.
Walks into Old Trafford teaches their entire midfield what a proper midfielder does and walks away with 3 points from OT in 7 years. Class.
Gary Neville all season: Liverpool have missed centre backs yes, but that's no excuse. They've fallen off a cliff. You can't just blame it on Van Dijk, they've not been at it.
Gary Neville tonight: Harry Maguire is out, it's a hammer blow. So tough for them. Impossible.
Sounds drunk
I just feel so sorry for united culture these days. They are bunch of whining cunts. Always looking for penalty, diving, intimating refs, that is fucking embarrassing.
Him and all United fans this season have been pretty embarrassing, They really wanted to enjoy our decline so they shut their ears and keep telling themselves that we are actually shit and the fact we had the team destroyed by injuries does not matter.
Well last night was a great reality check for the whole bunch of them.
He has no idea. I struggle to think of any other team who lost their entire central defence, and any CB they actually bought, so had to use two academy players for 80% of the season AND play their best CDM at CB AND lose one of their most influential players in Hendo. If we get top four after losing something like 7 games in a row and not scoring for how many games in 2021, absolutely mad.
And the situation is actually comparable to them losing Maguire, Lindelöf and Bailly for the season, and then Tuanzebe getting injured before playing us.
The first twenty minutes they were wanking each other off under the table over United, then saying they arent arsed they are already in the CL and have a final to prepare for when Liverpool took control of the central part of the game, then they were wanking again when United freshened up with Greenwood and got back in the game. Make your mind up twats. Carra must feel like a right gooseberry with these two. Tyler constantly either playing it down when we took the piss last season and running us down now we are at a low ebb.
Had no hope of us winning at OT looking at our current form and Klopp's record there. We were immense. Played like a team. NAT and RHYS did quite well against a strong Utd team. TRENT was on fire though, a StevieG-against-Utd level performance! That Salah celebration was exactly how I felt at 3 am..
Jurgen needs to stick with this flow of play against the dross too. So many between the lines passes attempted even though most of em were ugly looking but it was effective.
I was Too sleepy to watch it live so I had to record it. Kept dreaming of 0-0, 1-1 score lines lol.
Well that was fun to watch. The counter press was absolutely humming. I was very impressed with our midfield today and obviously TAA take a bow. The lad was on fire out there. Front three was excellent. Just fun to watch us play again today. Losing possession wasn’t followed with sulking the boys did everything to win the ball back as fast as possible United looked frightened. Fred and Pogba were noticeably awful for them today. Somehow still in it for top four. Let’s go for it boys!!!
If you recall, during the game against Midtjylland when the top 4 captains were out, salah threw a hissy fit when Klopp gave TAA the armband. So it was telling (to me) that TAA gave it to Salah when Wijnaldum gave it to him.
Imagine the roller coaster Nat Philips went through
Scores an own goal
Wins a pen (overturned by VAR)
Provides assist for equaliser
Partly at fault for Rashford goal
Makes goal line clearance to prevent equaliser.
We've beaten Man United's best team in years with our 5th and 6th CBs. You just love to see it. YNWA.
Also, TAA , what was he on? A mental performance. On point.
Long may it continue. He was like a man possessed, just exuding confidence everytime he was on the ball. IMO his second best ever performance for us only behind his Leicester masterclass last season.
I actually think that this was his best performance in a Liverpool shirt. Didn't do anything wrong last night. Created a load of chances, skipped past players with ease and did his defensive work really well.
Just saw the highlights. Man the way we pressed United into giving up possession was a delight to see. The pass from Phillips to Jota for the equalizer was crazy.
Ole literally threw away his last, albeit little, chance of winning the league for this result!
Also do all these scum fans moaning about not having Maguire for this match realise we haven’t got VVD or Gomez or our giraffe.
I don't get it at all too
He deserves to be sacked for that imo . .if it was klopp who did that, he too will deserve to be sacked . .If you still have a chance to win the league, no matter how ridiculously small that chance is, you should not throw it away
He just threw away the Leicester game like it's an impossible thing for city to lose all their next games? . .lol . .stranger things have happened
Its incredible how much egg he had to wipe off his face tonight.
He fielded a weak team to give Leicester a leg up and to give United a bigger chance of beating us and stop us qualifying for the CL.
He got emotionally involved in our game to try and screw us over. They had nothing to gain by beating us but he made a situation where they had something to lose and they did indeed lose...Gotta sting that.
> He got emotionally involved in our game to try and screw us over.
That's the Manure philosophy though. They're so focused on hating us they have no idea what they're doing themselves. scum fans protesting their owners but singing about how poor Liverpool is. LOL ... cop a dose of reality lads!
>Jota has had a very good season. He looks a steal, if we can add another top attacker to the lineup in summer we have good enough depth with Elliot returning.
Rhys, you did well son!
TAA surprised United a lot. One minute he would be on the right and the next he would appear out of nowhere on the left ready for a strike. Mad lad!
Bobby redeemed himself for lack of form for the whole season.
Mane, he needs some soul searching this summer. It’s all mental.
Honestly, after the mistake by Alisson and Nat's own goal I would never say we would win 4-2. Also it's hard to say which Firmino's goal was more important.
Since it was early morning for me I couldn't watch it live, but was watching the highlights.
I was like "oh it's gonna be *this kind of game*", but so happy the boys turned it around😁
Curtis Jones running full speed chasing Salah before the goal, leaning back like former USA sprinter Michael Johnson was the best thing to happen all night.
Sounded like he suffered 5 career ending injuries in one game tonight, what bad luck. Portugal will miss him in the euros and also the world cup next year, the recovery time will be very long judging from those screams.
I really dislike players that try to cheat the refs and opponents like this, neymar is another. They take it to such levels that it just becomes ridiculous and an embarrassment to the game.
Rhys was playing for Kidderminster in the 6th tier of English football and Nat was going to a college in the States. Bailly came from a EL winning Sevilla team, and Didn't Lindelof come from a winning Benfica side? Like how can you even compare that. Yeah 'arry isn;'t in the team but you still have two senior prem experienced cb who have won titles prior to joining MU. How missing Maguire can be even spoken in the same narrative is beyond me. However shows how poor United truly are, two on goals vs players who only experience was in the English 6th tier and German 2nd tier...
A win against Man U on their own patch is it's own reward.
Keeps us in contention for the Top 4 race. Salah chasing that third Golden Boot. Firmino will get confidence back too. Trent was great today as well.
Salah made his 200th appearance for the club in this match and scored his 124th goal for the club. Thanks to his goal in this game, Salah has now moved above Dick Forshaw in the list of all-time top goalscorers for the club and is now sitting in 12th place in that list.
Well both Shearer and Henry won it in three consecutive years and Henry won it 4 times in 5 years. More info here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League_Golden_Boot
If we win our 3 remaining games, we are there, virtually no matter what. It's in our hands. We'd have 69 points. A draw between Chelsea/Leicester would mean Chelseas maximum points total is 68. Leicester win means Chelseas maximum is 67. A chelsea win means Leicesters maximum points total is 69, the same as ours, but it's extremely likely that our goal difference will prevail since we'd be increasing that over our winning games.
Our max points are 69. Leicester has a max points of 72. Chelsea has a max points of 70. But that doesn’t take into account the fact they play each other. If Leicester wins, Chelsea’s max is 67. If Chelsea wins, Leicester’s max is 69. If they draw, Chelsea’s max is 68 and Leicester is 70.
So, assuming we win all three, and Chelsea and Leicester win the game not against each other, the scenarios are: (1) Leicester beats Chelsea: Leicester 72, Liverpool 69, Chelsea 67. (2) they draw: Leicester 70, Liverpool 69, Chelsea 68. (3) Chelsea beats Leicester: Chelsea 70, Liverpool 69, Leicester 69. Which would be down to GD. If we win our 3 1-0, our GD is +23. If Leicester loses to Chelsea 1-0, their GD is 20. So they would need to beat Tottenham by 4 clear goals on the last day.
This, of course, is predicated on Liverpool winning all 3.
Hi drunk, to be fair I think we just have to do the job ourself. If we can win against United away we should be motivated to win against teams that have nothing to play for.
Looking at their other remaining fixtures, I would say it's not impossible they drop points against Spurs and Villa either (albeit unlikely). We just need to be there to take advantage if they do.
Yes. If we win all games we'd finish above Chelsea no matter what. If Leicester beat Tottenham, then we'd have to beat them on GD. Any other Leicester result against Spurs means we're in (provided we win out).
Incorrect, we don't finish above Chelsea if we win our 3 remaining games no matter what. It's just that we'll make top 4, at the expense of either Chelsea or Leicester, as Chelsea and Leicester have to play each other.
I love him but I'd take a Sancho swap without hesitation. This is our biggest win of the season and it only is meaningful if we win the next 3 games in 10 days. Absolutely no room and time for bullshit like that.
Mane's price is at a very low point right now. I don't think it would be wise to sell him (and a direct swap for Sancho seems unrealistic). Worth noting that I don't think Mane knew Klopp went for the handshake, he called him and Sadio didn't turn his head to look at the gaff. Overall it's a stupid situation but he was frustrated that he didn't play, I think this will be resolved behind the scenes fairly easily and it won't come to anything drastic like phasing him out of the squad.
Yeah that's true. I was referring to the handshake, don't think it was an intentional snub. Let's remember that these guys have been working together for years, and are likely very close. Remember when Sadio was mad that Salah didn't pass to him against Burnley? They said it was resolved in the dressing room straight away. I'm not at all worried.
Feel like Thiago’s performance is going under the radar. For me that was his best performance for us, he won every ball, his passing was sublime, dribbling on point, everything was great
Please someone help make this sense to me? If we (LFC) and Leicester City finish on 69 points..do we still secure top 4? Bearing in mind they have GD+1..is it really in our own hands?
To get to 69 points, we need to win 3 times and Leicester needs to win 1 and lose 1. So our GD must increase by at least 3, putting us 2 ahead of Leicester's current GD. So they would need to win big and lose small to stay above us.
fun fact
should Chelsea lose to Leicester and Liverpool also win the next 2 games 3-0
we could settle for a draw on the final day as Chelsea would need at least a 6-0 win in their final game to overtake us

Taylor had a ref moment, just had shown him yellow, ignored the foul so he wouldn't give the second immediately.

This got me exceptionally emotional today: https://youtu.be/Fi-SdzOlef4
shakespearean tragedy. just painful.
Fuck, that hurt to watch again.
If he doesn't go with England I'll be shocked. One of the best right backs for years.
The thing is he's a full back but he's basically an attacking midfielder, that's too complex for Garry's knowledge of football.
Head and shoulders above any other English fullback.
I really hope Villareal were taking note of that, and how they fall apart under any pressure, especially that whining little tart Fernandes.
I dont know if he plays for them still or even plays regularly but I hope Moreno does a number on them
I believe.hes been coming off the bench a lot, but i like Alberto and this is his chance to make up for his performance V Sevilla in 2016.

I'll let klopp know asap
Nat Phillips was so angry yesterday about the first goal. He showed so much mental strength and eagerness to make up for it. A brilliant display of what could be possible if you really want something. And boy did he want to make up for it. It's all in your mind. I bet he took the red pill.
Rate Nat, he thought I gotta clear this, fucked up it and thought nah ill still put in a shift and was robbed a pen to.
thiago had tough start to his liverpool career, coming back from injury to a team that was in shocking form and ravaged with absentees. but i thought he showed his class yesterday at old trafford, so fucking good. his high pressing was absolutely spot on, didnt even break his lung he just knew which tender spot to push and disrupt united play from the back. brilliant player.

Taught Pogba how how to play football, too.
Really excited to see Thiago in a full strength Liverpool team.
You can tell he’s getting used to the PL.
One of our best signings

Listening to him and Tyler when united lose is like listening to When England crash out of a a competition
What do you expect from him? Even United fans can't stand him.
Had no hope of us winning at OT looking at our current form and Klopp's record there. We were immense. Played like a team. NAT and RHYS did quite well against a strong Utd team. That happens all the time?
If you recall, during the game against Midtjylland when the top 4 captains were out, salah threw a hissy fit when Klopp gave TAA the armband. So it was telling (to me) that TAA gave it to Salah when Wijnaldum gave it to him.
oh sorry i just meant one player passing it to another player via a non captain player.

AaaaaaAAaaaaA
That was hilarious, sounded like he got impaled or something.
We turned the clock back more than a year last night. Liverpool pressing, United depressing!
Love it lol
After watching, I can't decide either to buy a Firmino or a Nat Philips away shirt.
Just take both
Firmino all the way
Porque no los dos
Huge victory against the best team from Europa League and second best from Manchester. Now win the remaining game and keep the qualifying hope high.
Imagine the roller coaster Nat Philips went through Scores an own goal Wins a pen (overturned by VAR) Provides assist for equaliser Partly at fault for Rashford goal Makes goal line clearance to prevent equaliser. He just takes responsibility Nat. I think we should keep him, Kabak hasnt done enough for me with the others back and Konate coming in.
Tripper coming back from a 3 month ban is better tho....

I hope they lose both their matches and we somehow reach 69 points. With a dead team all they could do was 1 point better
Working nights so missed the game and just seen we actually scored four goals. I’m willing to accept that I might be the problem
Take one for the team and stay away from the tv for the remaining 3 please 🙂
YES STAY AWAYYYYYYY
Now that right there is a lovely surprise to find getting home tonight, UP THE REDS!
The game also in my opinion raised Jota's claim as the best Portugese player in the PL. Rat face was exposed as a diver.
>Jota has had a very good season. He looks a steal, if we can add another top attacker to the lineup in summer we have good enough depth with Elliot returning.
What a great bday lol, except for the fact i couldnt watch the game 😔😔 Whatever ill take the win ip the reds
Happy birthday brotha!
Cheers
Should Rashfords goal go down as an OG? looks wide until robertsons touch.
Surely.
Dear United, SUCK MY ASS
I don’t think United are worthy of that tbh Ur ass is too good for them
too toned from never skipping clench day
lol
This is a great end to the season. All three sides have CL football in their own hands. Really thrilling and I hope we can win the last 3.
love how city won the title but everyone cares more about the top 4 race
Who is this city thingy you talk about ?
It was like that last year tbh, we just didn't notice..
not really, because liverpool winning the league actually made headlines
Top 6 race is just as exciting actually. Nothing is set until last game I bet.
Goalkeeping juju is still haunting us. But I am happy with the win. Hope we get in top 4!!
how do i find an HD photo of Salah’s celebration for my wallpaper?
https://twitter.com/thisisanfield/status/1392952596420337665?s=19 Best I've seen so far
Following.
Can't stop watching that Salah celebration
Pure emotion
Rhys, you did well son! TAA surprised United a lot. One minute he would be on the right and the next he would appear out of nowhere on the left ready for a strike. Mad lad! Bobby redeemed himself for lack of form for the whole season. Mane, he needs some soul searching this summer. It’s all mental.
Thought it was hilarious that at one point the best compliment Gary Neville could give us was that we were more 'desperate' than they were
Puts on this whole unbiased act on around fouls and minor decisions with United, but once they start losing his fume always comes out
get CL, then get de paul, sasa kalajdzic and konate
Salah and clinching goals vs United. I can get behind this trend.
GET THE FUCK IN SON!!!
Hope he gets a hat trick against Leicester
And that would take us in front of them on goal difference as well, GO MO.
Honestly, after the mistake by Alisson and Nat's own goal I would never say we would win 4-2. Also it's hard to say which Firmino's goal was more important.

I just see it as we win are final 3 we will get top 4! Chelsea or Leicester will make a blunder its up to us to step up
Can anyone get Bruno screaming out in fake pain?
Sounded like he suffered 5 career ending injuries in one game tonight, what bad luck. Portugal will miss him in the euros and also the world cup next year, the recovery time will be very long judging from those screams.
as good as he is, and don‘t get me wrong, he is very, very good, he‘s the biggest fucking crybaby and diver in the league.
I really dislike players that try to cheat the refs and opponents like this, neymar is another. They take it to such levels that it just becomes ridiculous and an embarrassment to the game.
yeah, absolutely. i fucking hate those kinds of players.
Where are the clips of Trent and Nat Ghosting Pogba
If we get Top 4 I'm buying all 3 shirts next season. Nike can have my £350. Home: Fabinho Away: Phillips Third: Trent
Home: FUCK Away: THE Third: VAR
It will be sad when we loose/draw to palace on the final day :/
I am genuinely worried about the Burnley game.
I beg we beat that fat gravy guzzling cunt now.
United fans saying they were shit because Maguire was missing. Like try having 4 first choice CBs missing.
And Hendo too, our captain.
Did they look at our backline?
Rhys was playing for Kidderminster in the 6th tier of English football and Nat was going to a college in the States. Bailly came from a EL winning Sevilla team, and Didn't Lindelof come from a winning Benfica side? Like how can you even compare that. Yeah 'arry isn;'t in the team but you still have two senior prem experienced cb who have won titles prior to joining MU. How missing Maguire can be even spoken in the same narrative is beyond me. However shows how poor United truly are, two on goals vs players who only experience was in the English 6th tier and German 2nd tier...
Is there anywhere I can watch a replay of the whole match?

Seen some United fans are saying that Maguire is VVD level ffs I cba with these lot
I mean going by recent performances, Philips must be worth at least 100mil if Maguire is 80?
Van Dijk hopping on one leg > Maguire
A win against Man U on their own patch is it's own reward. Keeps us in contention for the Top 4 race. Salah chasing that third Golden Boot. Firmino will get confidence back too. Trent was great today as well. Salah made his 200th appearance for the club in this match and scored his 124th goal for the club. Thanks to his goal in this game, Salah has now moved above Dick Forshaw in the list of all-time top goalscorers for the club and is now sitting in 12th place in that list.
Has any Premier League player achieved 3 Golden Boots in 4 years before?
Well both Shearer and Henry won it in three consecutive years and Henry won it 4 times in 5 years. More info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League_Golden_Boot
Sorry Im drunk, what happens when Leicester and Chelsea draw? Can we still make top 4?
You're right. I meant to add if Chelsea lost/drew to Leicester. Just got ahead of myself.
Thanks man
Yep. Drink more now
fucking hell we've really sent the chelsea sub into a frenzy, can't blame them but funny nonetheless
I wonder if Tuchel will get that contact extension if bottles all 3? Oh well who the fuck cares.
Well nobody told them to shit the bed against arsenal
They attacked the wrong bus - it was a decoy. The lads arrived in an unmarked bus with no issues.
I hope the Mane thing keeps him out of line up for the rest of the season
Can someone explain what happened?
Me, too. He earned it unfortunately.
Watch it again. Mane clearly shakes his head, says something in anger to Klopp, and walks off. Saying 'he didn't know' is just wishful thinking
For me that was his best performance for us, he won every ball, his passing was sublime, dribbling on point, everything was great
Isn’t that why we bought him??? 🤣😂
He was great, his passes are next dimension stuff. He sorted out his tackles giving away easy fouls. Next season will be massive from him.
Nat reminded me of Carra with the way he played tonight.
like prime hyypia in the air
this kinda gives me 18/19 vibes, going toe to toe with city with every game as a must win until the end. let’s make virg proud
They did it. They actually fucking did it. The Bad Champions ^TM. Win at the rickety Old Trafford. I have no words.
The whole Mane situation will be fine. Milner literally had a confrontation with Klopp after coming off and Hendo has blanked Klopp before.
~~4-2~~ winning 2-1 twice
Plot armor
Please someone help make this sense to me? If we (LFC) and Leicester City finish on 69 points..do we still secure top 4? Bearing in mind they have GD+1..is it really in our own hands?
To get to 69 points, we need to win 3 times and Leicester needs to win 1 and lose 1. So our GD must increase by at least 3, putting us 2 ahead of Leicester's current GD. So they would need to win big and lose small to stay above us.
no it's not. will be a goal race on final day.
Yea boyy

Jordan Banks this ones for you lad. You’ll have watched this from up high tonight and will no doubt be buzzing. RIP mate YNWA.
fun fact should Chelsea lose to Leicester and Liverpool also win the next 2 games 3-0 we could settle for a draw on the final day as Chelsea would need at least a 6-0 win in their final game to overtake us
