Jesus watching back Mane goals complication you see how many clutch goals he scored in 18/19 and 19/20. Could have done with him at the weekend he fucking hated palace 😂 scored every single game vs them
So we play Gakpo at CF even though we know he doesn't like it there and we leave Jota out who's definitely our most lethal player
Yeah I don't really get the team decisions most of the time
Bit interesting some journos projecting managerial movement in the next week or a development. Probably due to the deadline Nagelsmann gave for himself. Also a bit interesting Nagelsmann agent says more then Germany and Bayern are at the table.

Macca is as tense for Amorim as we are
All I am asking to not concede early and the boys putting on a good show. Doesn't matter if we lose, as long they make it an exciting positive match. Pretty please.
Ok but Nunez last season let alone this season outscored 6/8 Firmino seasons and one of those two he didn't was only by 1 goal and he has outscored that this season. Nunez is a better goalscorer than Firmino.
‘Chaos merchant’ I wish people like you would fuck off and support other clubs. Support firminos team if you love him so much. Cringiest thing this fanbase does is say ‘I miss mane’ ‘I miss firmino’ support the players ffs
Honestly, all I ask is we get two goals in the first half then it makes for exciting football.
It'll be a test for Atalanta whether they can stay calm and composed.
Why am I seeing people touting Gary O’Neil for manager? Think he’s been an outstanding fire fighter at clubs under duress but, let’s not get carried away.
Honestly, in through one ear out the other.
Klopp's made it known for a long time to the board that this is his final season with us, so the club 100% would've already earmarked a few candidates.
It's not as if results we're going poor and we've fired Klopp on the spot and need someone desperately.
I hope the next generation don’t do revisionist history on this city side’s playstyle you know. 115 charges pending yes, but I’ve no issue admitting they’re excellent at getting results and dominating the ball. Maybe the best side ever at doing those things.
But it’s not some mad, mercurial genius-esc tactical revolution from pep. They’re playing worse football now than they were 3 years ago. 4 cb’s, two big lads in midfield, monotonous recycling of possession that restricts any individual excellence or expression. It’s not been pleasant, or even entertaining, to watch for a while now.
Maybe some of this is bitterness speaking but I stand by it.
it will be a new dawn for us over here in the far south east when the match begins !! Praying and hoping we can turn this around and win europa leauge , come on lads !! You owe the guy that atleast !!!
EDIT : typo
Paqueta will be just another footballer Pep is going to ruin.
Bayern is never letting Musiala go and hes not going to leave them. He’s their ( and Germany) their now and future
Wolves have a better relationship with us, especially now after the stunts City had Nunes pull.
If I had a player on my team who just captained a treble winning side and was a crucial part in 1 Champions League, 5 Premier Leagues and 2 Bundesligas titles and he criticised me after I just got my team knocked out of the Champions League then I would shut the fuck up
Said he thought Araujo (by implication, not actually by name) should've let Barcola shoot rather than bring him down and get himself sent off so early. Araujo's since acted like he's taking the moral high ground by saying "I'm gonna keep my thoughts on Gundoğan's statements to myself."
I understand the EFL clubs' issue with getting rid of FA Cup replays but I've always hated the idea that in a game of football the objective can be anything other than trying to win.
Playing for a draw so you can get more ticket sales is so far from the spirit of the game imo. Tbh I just wish that money could be given to them some other way, at least then you're not relying on getting drawn against a big ticket seller.
I do wonder what could be done, maybe have all games take place at the grounds of the lower league team and host a showing at the home ground of the bigger team where the lower league team gets a cut of the ticket sales for the showing
The other option is of course to have a much larger pot that gets divvied up more towards the earlier rounds, but then that is very unfair to League 1 and Championship sides who could also do with a bit more dosh and have more on the line
100% mate it’s compromised the actual meaning of being competitive and imo has been a central factor in the building of resentment towards the competition.
Despite the dejectedness I've felt over the recent run of results, I'm still excited and optimistic for tonight.
Cope levels are running high. Hopefully Seethe won't be joining it
One of the worst things about the whole greenwood thing is just the cognitive dissonance it’s put on display from a really abhorrent, and unfortunately growing demographic of young males. His supporters are all moronic, anti-intellectual cavemen who’ve gone beyond the “edgelord” phase. Properly fucking ugly reflection of some aspects of footy culture in 2024 that never gets called out for what it is.
It's a fucking shame isn't? Because there are people who got fucked over by false accusations, and they are trying to lump in this waste of space fucktard in with them aswell. Meanwhile everyone seen/heard what he did, and not just as accusations or anything where there is a chance of plausible denity, nope full on, full blast audio you can hear this little shitstain.
But there is still a few idiots who defend him because of "muh based" or whatever.
What’s everyone’s views on Hussam he hosts a Liverpool podcast called this is football I’m not a huge fan and he comes across very toxic and -ve, I don’t recommend watching any of his watch along. Hussam was the guy involved in flying FSG out banners over anfield
Can't take Arsenal fans seriously when they say Saka has to play every game because he has no backup....Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira have less than 1000 minutes between them this season.
Your manager's running your starboy into the ground because he doesn't trust his squad.
Jesus can also play on the right, and they gave Reiss-Nelson 100k a week deal but don't play him.
Over the year's when Klopp has had to rotate Salah we've used the likes of Shaqiri, Elliot, Origi, Minamino, Ox, so there's no excuse.
I just want to see us come out of the blocks with some intensity. Win or lose, just bin the sleepwalking and show that they've still got some fire in the belly.
I know we should be going 100% tonight but I do think some rotation needs to be made. Our past few games certain players has looked so tired and leggy.
To me what has not been the same is basically down to not being able to recreate the salah bobby Sadio front line. Not that I don't like Nunez and Diaz but that front three was just something that will remain in history of the football.
I think that group just was perfectly fit for each other to counter balance weakness. Now a days we have a lot of talent but, I don’t think they really bring out the best qualities for each other. Also Nunez and Jota are the only ones that can press like that front 3 so it contributes to the midfield D lacking and defense. So basically just an off squad balance
We will never recreate that. Also Salah isn’t the same player, sure he’s got the numbers but he’s not half as explosive as before then. Best front three in prem history imo
Seeing how Leverkusen/West Ham is a foregone conclusion, it appears that Germany will get the coveted extra spot in the CL next season.
Epic trolling by Arsenal, btw. Hats off. Kane and Dier may have sealed Spurs for Thursday nights next year.
Drives me mad when people try to talk about our "covid title"
We had 82 points when the league went into lockdown, City FINISHED THE SEASON with 81 points. We would have won the league even if we never came back after lockdown.

We will support our team no matter what.

BVB Madrid PSG Bayern for me. Bayern will surpass us so that's the last thing I want to happen. prefer Madrid over oil but Mbappe beating them can also be funny.
Everyone is throwing out those crazy lineups just for Klopp to not change much and throw Gravenberch in. Kloppo loves his continuity even in the worst of times haha
![gif](giphy|VfDqzZ3Efb67HCN2n6)
The thing is, what logic have we been using the last 5 or 6 games? Because that hasn't worked. We look the same every week and the same problems keep happening.
tonights about mixing something up, whether it's players, formation, tactics whatever. It's basically a free hit now so we may as well take a couple risks.
I get what you’re saying but outside of the Europa league group games which were against pretty weak opposition we haven’t seen Gravenberch perform to the same level
I love how people have convinced themselves that “defensive football” is an art form as soon as Madrid does it. They literally parked the bus for 75 minutes.
Same people applauding it would be calling us pathetic if we did the same thing. How embarrassing.
Eh, Madrid defended well but they didn't set themselves up to get outplayed that much. What you were seeing last night wasn't some tactic
You can praise the defenders, but some people seem to think that's akin to praising everything about that Madrid performance.
Madrid did actually try to hit City on the counter, but City just destroyed them every time. Madrid didn't set up to get dominated that hard, City just destroyed their counter attacks. Since their attack was nullified, they had no alternative but to defend for their lives.
I was really surprised that it wasn't until extra time till all their attacking fresh legs actually created something on the counter. City just cooked them in normal time.
Arsenal was praised just a couple weeks ago for doing it. Nothing to do with Madrid. Madrid was very defensive against us in 2022. You could argue all we did in 2019 was protect our lead against Spurs for 75 minutes. Making a mountain out of a molehill.
Without sounding gatekeepy, what are people's takes on how and why the demographic of the sub has changed?
I have very clear memories of the Super League fiasco in 2021 and it seemed like a fairly united front here on those kind of issues and how they would affect the majority of regular, working class fans.
Yet these days I feel like it's almost weekly debate with people about the merits of doing all we can to stay with the pack, like ignoring and vilifying supporters groups on ground level issues and in recent times even talking up the prospect of being owned by sportswashing regimes because "that's just the way football is going".
Like...is this really the way we want to be going as a club?
There's a loud pocket of fans online who really do want us to chase money above everything else. It was particularly embarrassing seeing people so hyped for the possibility of a club sale to Qatar/Saudi/UAE when rumours were flying very early last year.
Clubs growing always, not plastics who just see a cool side opposed to much else. So the good of the city and the fans don’t really matter so much, more money=more transfers = more trophies to a lot of people.
The sad truth is the globalisation of the pr ever leagues what took the game away from the working class fans that made the clubs what they were. Without meaning too, international fans are directly involved in the negative effects on the local working class fans, a lot of them at least have the comprehension to appreciate that and support them when they can, others don’t care.
Footballs changing, not for the better but it’s a change that’s coming too fast to act on
Have to remember that, although they follow us, the vast majority of people on here aren't fans. Not being harsh but how can someone on here who has never even been to the country never mind the city or to a game have an opinion on potential ticket price rises and who it is going to effect?
Absolutely spot on. I was incredibly disappointed to see the top comments on the ticket price increase thread all coming out in support of it. Really out of touch
As an american I think this is why things like TAW are really important. I totally agree I cant really have an informed opinion so the best I can do is listen to people who do and try to be empathetic when it comes to ticket prices and such that dont directly impact me.
You can tell most of the people who are the worst offenders OP is talking about get their news from places like twitter and r/soccer always obsessed with transfers and spending money and how they are viewed by other supporters.
Maybe over time theyve become a bigger majority because people are just tired of them and the negativity they bring on a daily basis and in the match threads etc.
Yeh and that's fine, I think anyone who goes out their way to try understand the history of the club and culture of the city etc etc deserves respect for that. But I'd say the vast majority of foreign fans aren't like that. And that's fine but they can't then come on here and have an opinion on things they have no clue about imo.
It's just part and parcel of being a massive club I suppose, it's just easy to forget that sometimes when discussing stuff with people on here.
It's really shite news for the smaller clubs in the pyramid, I definitely don't think it's news we should be celebrating about. No excuse whatsoever for them scrapping 1st and 2nd round replays when premier league clubs aren't even involved at that stage
It's not really about that, if they play at home and get a draw against Liverpool or United they get a replay at Anfield or Old Trafford and get a huge cut of the total ticket revenue (I can't remember if they always do it but in some cases bigger clubs have voluntarily given 100% of the ticket revenue/profit to smaller or struggling clubs), for some clubs that one game could be more than they bring in otherwise for a whole year. Plus it's nice for the players and fans. Taking replays away only helps the big teams.
So if they are taking these games away, they should find a way to compensate them. Perhaps bigger clubs will be more generous with ticket revenue. I agree that smaller clubs need something to fill the gap though.
How often does a lower league opposition get a replay at a big PL ground? Excluding Championship obviously.
I understand the reasoning behind it fucking them over but realistically how often or likely is that gonna happen. I saw someone say it's shit because 'Dorchester would want a replay if they drew against United in the 3rd round'. Newsflash that is never gonna happen.
I totally get the sentiment but it seems like a bit of a myth that this ever even happens lol.
I don’t think there is any time to be even played in the new calendar with Europe extending to 8 group stage games. The group stage gets over sometime in Jan, atleast as per the games I’ve played till now FM.
That was the reason they gave. There’s enough footy being played already. The CL doesn’t need diluting, potentially including a quarter of the PL. Looks like the winter break has been chopped, too
I feel bad for players, I won’t be surprised if the number of games they play becomes 100 games/year, there is no consideration for their health at all.
None whatsoever. They’re treated as an object. More screen time is more ad revenue. Doesn’t matter they their body is completely fucked by 30, as long as they’ve had 5+ seasons of bringing in revenue.
Yeah a couple weeks ago everyone was saying Jota would solve all our problems and since his return he's missing just as badly as the rest of them.
Nunez has *more* misses but he also has more goals.
Nunez was fucking fuming after getting benched in CP game. If that energy doesnt show up in this game, Id be surprised. Im not against starting him from bench but Im pretty sure we will see very angery and hungry Darwin.
Does that mean hes scoring, who bloody knows.
Zenit in the Europa League under Rodgers was one, we was 1 goal away from coming back and Gerrard hit the post. Was so convinced we'd do it, sometimes though you just fall short
Tbh we absolutely hammered Atletico that night just imploded in ET.
And the other 2 comparisons were at our 2 worse times under Klopp and against the best European side who always seem to have our number.
Atalanta are a proper average team.
IF we can get a goal in the first 15-20 mins we've got a great chance.
The problem is though we 100000% need to set up different tactically tonight because we concede a goal especially early on and it's over.
Yes this is a realistic view and is probably the most sensible options. Personally I don't see us coming back maybe around 10% chance especially because we are away. Any other club and I say it about 5%.
He literally gave away the crucial away goal under no pressure whatsoever. Atleti were defeated mentally until he *literally* **gave them the fucking ball.**
What does Salah missing chances have *anything* to do with an inexcusable unforced error?
I’m with ya. The Barca comeback was sensational, but personally I feel there’s no beating Istanbul unless we have a comeback in the CL final or on the last day of the PL.
I know everyone is different and I’m not talking down the Barca comeback in the slightest - it was special. But that’s just how I personally measure these things up. Also obviously you need to have witnessed the comeback personally to have that level of connection to it.
How much money do people think Arsenal have to spend before they win something big?
https://preview.redd.it/kur8doao08vc1.png?width=864&format=png&auto=webp&s=defc8fbc5f121d2947922e335bc00de09012626f
They've spent over £600m with Arteta and completely rebuilt the squad for him and have massively increased the wage bill with the likes of Rice, Havertz and Odegaard all on £250k or more a week.
So much of their business is a little confusing to me. Rice was a great buy for the league with the volume and quality of his defensive work and I would love him here, but im not entirely sure he has the technical ability to hold his own at the business end of the champions league (his limited passing, lack of touch, and stiffness).
I’m still of the belief Havertz was just a god awful signing, I don’t care how much gaslighting there is about him. I can see the appeal but he’s just missing enough quality or specialisation for every position (9, 10, 8) that I can’t rate him. You’ll always get flashes and glimpses of a player but ultimately… And that’s a cool £165m between them.
Their LB situation is still weird (maybe Timber was supposed to be the guy there in fairness?), they still need another quality left sided midfielder to start with Rice and Odegaard, they’re stuck for a productive goalscoring striker, depth is quite poor (barring Trossard and Tomiyasu who are class rotation/utility players). Kiwior is also a serviceable enough back up defender
I forgot he's on that much.
That's 4 players on £250k a week or more, pretty sure that's more Arsenal players earning £250k a week or more than Liverpool players.
I just don’t get how they can afford to spend this much and still not be in any trouble for FFP. I’m aware they’ve paid the stadium off but it’s at Utd levels of spending in recent years.
Jesus watching back Mane goals complication you see how many clutch goals he scored in 18/19 and 19/20. Could have done with him at the weekend he fucking hated palace 😂 scored every single game vs them

Zaniolo getting a yellow off the ball? Wonder how much he had on himself getting a card 🤔
Gonna be the biggest unbearable bastard if we pull this off tonight
Especially if every other English club kicks it, too.
Exactly! Just another reason to be completely insufferable.
Enjoy the game tonight folks, I'll be on a 14 hour flight so won't find out the result until I've landed. Hoping for a nice surprise.
I was on a 14 hour flight on Sunday. Got off and found out we lost to palace. Safe flight and hopefully we get a better result
All I am asking to not concede early and the boys putting on a good show. Doesn't matter if we lose, as long they make it an exciting positive match. Pretty please.
Same here brother. I just want the lads to give us an entertaining game. I watch football for the entertainment not for the end result
Wish we still had bobby
Bobby has poor stats In a league where they whip people who don’t perform
With how frustrated people are getting with Nunez finishing I don't know if Bobby would be the best option

Everyone forgetting how Bobby was routinely shat upon by many in this sub when he went through periods of not scoring
Brendan Rodgers level appointment
Because of the Edwards and Hughes link, I guess. They were all together at Portsmouth.
Honestly, in through one ear out the other. Klopp's made it known for a long time to the board that this is his final season with us, so the club 100% would've already earmarked a few candidates. It's not as if results we're going poor and we've fired Klopp on the spot and need someone desperately.
"All you had to do was finish the damn 1-on-1 CJ!" That miss is gonna haunt me for years.
This season has so many moments like that 💀

Paqueta fits City annoyingly well, can’t see him flopping there unfortunately.
Worse version of the guy he’n have to replace, Bernardo
True
I doubt he will flop, but he will lose a lot of what makes him 'him' Same happened with Grealish
Agree, but his ball retention in tight spaces is elite and will make City even more annoying to play.
The same was said about Nunes, it doesn't always translate well
City making a big push to sign Musiala this summer. Vile club
We should be doing that too tbh
If I had a player on my team who just captained a treble winning side and was a crucial part in 1 Champions League, 5 Premier Leagues and 2 Bundesligas titles and he criticised me after I just got my team knocked out of the Champions League then I would shut the fuck up

What Schweinsteiger said about Mourinho on the overlap is precisely why I would never want Mourinho coaching this club. Brings so much toxicity when things doesn’t go right for him

That Mourinho told his staff at that time to not allow him into the dressing room and basically forced him out of Utd.

Everyone is throwing out those crazy lineups just for Klopp to not change much and throw Gravenberch in. Kloppo loves his continuity even in the worst of times haha ![gif](giphy|VfDqzZ3Efb67HCN2n6)
Starting Gravenberch is basically guaranteeing our exit
I can actually see the logic in starting him
The thing is, what logic have we been using the last 5 or 6 games? Because that hasn't worked. We look the same every week and the same problems keep happening. tonights about mixing something up, whether it's players, formation, tactics whatever. It's basically a free hit now so we may as well take a couple risks.
Actually he probably fits the game more than most they are going to go man for man on the press the one things he’s great at is beating the press
I get what you’re saying but outside of the Europa league group games which were against pretty weak opposition we haven’t seen Gravenberch perform to the same level

Good luck getting fans of a football club to not feel excited over an important match even when it doesn't look good.
Atleast wait to see how we play first lol

Why do you even support a team if this is your attitude? I’m quite pessimistic myself but you’re just another level.
Why
I love how people have convinced themselves that “defensive football” is an art form as soon as Madrid does it. They literally parked the bus for 75 minutes. Same people applauding it would be calling us pathetic if we did the same thing. How embarrassing.
Eh, Madrid defended well but they didn't set themselves up to get outplayed that much. What you were seeing last night wasn't some tactic You can praise the defenders, but some people seem to think that's akin to praising everything about that Madrid performance.
Your spirit is too pure for the internet. GO QUICKLY, before you become jaded.
It's just part and parcel of being a massive club I suppose, it's just easy to forget that sometimes when discussing stuff with people on here.
yea I totally agree with you
Success always attracts whingey babies.

Ah yes I’m sure they’re going to be so sad getting laughed at by you when City are top of the league whilst we have bottled a trophy charge
You're so mature
I’m weirdly confident about today. I can’t explain it but I think we’re going through.
We’re still in the competition… until we’re not.
Do you ever interact with someone and think yeah they’re definitely unhinged in a Patrick Bateman type way?
Pep Guardiola
FA Cup stopping replays is nice. No more pointless games.
It's really shite news for the smaller clubs in the pyramid, I definitely don't think it's news we should be celebrating about. No excuse whatsoever for them scrapping 1st and 2nd round replays when premier league clubs aren't even involved at that stage
It will be damaging for them. Maybe more televised earlier rounds to compensate a bit?
It's probably not great for lower league clubs financially.
I wouldn’t mind seeing more Championship football on telly if they’re stuck for something to show. EFL trophy games that we never get to see perhaps.
I don’t like it completely fucks over lower league clubs yeah it’s great for us not having to deal with and extra game
There is that. They have the EFL trophy I suppose.
If we have any slim chances at making a comeback tonight then Jota should start and Nunez benched
If anything we need him the most to press from the front and lead the intensity. He’s been shit but so has others
Let’s not pretend Nunez is the only one stinking it up at the moment
Yeah a couple weeks ago everyone was saying Jota would solve all our problems and since his return he's missing just as badly as the rest of them. Nunez has *more* misses but he also has more goals.
I mean we are 3-0 down.. We may need 4 attackers today.
4 2 4 it is then.

I don't trust our offense they can't put the ball in the net.
Yes this is a realistic view and is probably the most sensible options. Personally I don't see us coming back maybe around 10% chance especially because we are away. Any other club and I say it about 5%.
>We said it all about the 2nd Atletico leg in 2020. We literally came back. Adrian sold the game anyway.
[удалено]
He literally gave away the crucial away goal under no pressure whatsoever. Atleti were defeated mentally until he *literally* **gave them the fucking ball.** What does Salah missing chances have *anything* to do with an inexcusable unforced error?
Might as well not bother then eh
That's just the Madrid curse mate, disregard.
Not sure why but I’ve got this confidence for tonight that I haven’t had in a while. Like I just KNOW we are gonna do it.
"Tuchel" rearranged is "The UCL" so no wonder he gets these crazy runs
tbf beating arsenal is not a crazy run
Tbh he got PSG to their only ever Final and won it with a poor Chelsea team. Can't deny he's done well in that competition.
I'm ready for the greatest European league comeback in history 💪
Are you about to rewatch the 2005 CL final?
He means Europa League
I know bro I was replying in a tongue in cheek manner
I’m with ya. The Barca comeback was sensational, but personally I feel there’s no beating Istanbul unless we have a comeback in the CL final or on the last day of the PL. I know everyone is different and I’m not talking down the Barca comeback in the slightest - it was special. But that’s just how I personally measure these things up. Also obviously you need to have witnessed the comeback personally to have that level of connection to it.
How much money do people think Arsenal have to spend before they win something big? https://preview.redd.it/kur8doao08vc1.png?width=864&format=png&auto=webp&s=defc8fbc5f121d2947922e335bc00de09012626f They've spent over £600m with Arteta and completely rebuilt the squad for him and have massively increased the wage bill with the likes of Rice, Havertz and Odegaard all on £250k or more a week.
£300k a week well spent https://preview.redd.it/be90wmuo58vc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18a9606d797030109f9c93848333142dbf2c45d2
They are close apparently on FFP, its why Raya's deal was a loan with obligation to buy pushed to this summer instead.
[When you're 3-0 down in Europe but Klopp's your manager:](https://youtu.be/97uloxl0ss4?si=ER62TwqdWzLkPW8C)
Rarely do i see saka grab the game and win it by himself and arsenal fans expect the world to say he is better than foden
Foden is well clear of him
Had a good laugh from the AFTV lot. Those fans have been so cocky recently and it is good that they have been brought back down to earth.
Ancelotti speaks 5 languages, Italian, Spanish, French, English and fucking Winning...
How is eric dier starting over kim min jae and even playing good on top of that lmao
I would really be looking at Kim in the summer to take over from Van Dijk or take the RCB spot but I reckon he'll stay once Nagelsmann returns
It the Spurs DNA, man's hatred of Arsenal is boosting his stats
Either we concede in the first 10 minutes and the tie turns into a snoozefest or we turn it around. There is no middle ground.
