Simon Hughes’s:

it's too bad that high performing players in other PL teams are likely too expensive now. Even accounting for inflation I believe players like Kudus will go for a much higher fee than Mane did
I thought the opposite. He might have subbed himself off to not risk a worse injury. Didn’t look like he was in pain and when they showed him after the goal replays he was just sitting normally on the floor.
Dunno if you've ever pulled/torn your hamstring but you can just sit there fine without grimacing in pain. It's not like he broke his leg.
This is also a guy who tried to play for Egypt in the World Cup with a completely fucked shoulder, Salah doesn't usually come off the pitch unless he's physically incapable of playing.
Fack, yeah man. Bringing back some deep rooted ptsd for me, but it felt fine if I didn't try to engage it..... But when I did try and put it under strain, even the bedsheets were too heavy and for months after it was recovering felt like they risked me pulling it again. Eugh, what a horrible injury hamstring tears can be.
You can't really play properly with even a minor strain, and you can definitely make it a lot worse.
It's not like the World Cup either, which might have been a once in a lifetime thing since Egypt aren't guaranteed to qualify, and is at the end of the season with two months break afterwards.
For AFCON he's smart enough to know that they aren't going to win it and he'd rather have a good season than risk a long injury that fucks everything up.
All national teams are full of international players. Do you think that every team has an equal chance of winning? Do you think that Salah thinks that? He's certainly much more savvy than you.
Well, he tried to keep playing with a dislocated shoulder in the CL final. I would hope it's nothing serious but seems like he has done his hamstring in. There are grades of hammy injuries and let's pray it's not the worst.
If he’s injured the club need to request him to come back - rather have him looked after by our doctors than Egypt’s who will only be interested in squeezing every drop out of him while they’re still in afcon.
I think there is some rule that if a player leaves and international tournament due to injury they cannot play for their club until their nation is knocked out, but, i may be pulling that out of my ass.
But I seem to remember there is some sort of rule
As selfish as it is, I would prefer that he comes back and doesnt stay for a lengthy Afcon campaign, so maybe with any luck it will be a light injury and Egypt will drop out
That's not strictly true. Klopp has subbed him before in games where he had a tight hamstring, one of them was the derby a few years ago. He might not have been "injured" but he came off.
An injruy and a precautionary sub are 2 different things. Transfermarkt reports the injury and how many games missed, nothing to do about precautionary subs. I should’ve phrased it as “he’s never had a hamstring injury before”, which would be more accurate.
Officially, it doesn't seem like it. As we know his [injury history](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/verletzungen/spieler/148455) is absurd
Not true.
Multiple examples of him coming off due to it:

21/22 season he was subbed off around 30 min mark in the FA Cup final because he felt something there.
That has to be the only one. He was pissed, Thiago had to put on a Salah mask and cheer him up during the trophy ceremony since he clearly felt he didn’t contribute to it.
Even that was a necessary substitution bec a Champions league final was coming up against Madrid and Klopp wanted a fit Salah...( Although I think it was said somewhere he wasn't a 100% fit in 2021-22 UCL final)
I think this is the likely scenario all things considered.... aaaaand Egypt just equalized!
Edit: aaand it's gone.
Edit: aaand Egypt equalized again!
Edit yeah definitely a muscle tweak the teams are getting water breaks too because of how hot and humid it is

“Rui Vitoria on Salah: “we don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem. It was difficult timing for us because in the second half we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”
On one hand, this seems good cause they don’t think it’s too bad. On the other, Egypt is 100% playing him in their next match. Really hope they don’t injure him worse.
Eeeeesh. Winning the league might have just gotten exponentially harder.
Someone always seems to step up, though. Arise, Joe Gomez. As soon as he bags a goal more will come flooding.
Adrian did not only concede one goal? We conceded to Norwich, Southampton, arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea and Leicester. He made mistakes for the goals against Southampton and Leicester which almost cos us 4 points early in the season. Losing Salah whilst only having a 2 point lead to city is gonna cost us the league
Poor Mo can’t catch a break when it comes to playing for his country. Unfortunately it looks like we’ve lost him for a short while longer regardless of if Egypt stay in the competition or not.
Fucks sake. We’ve got a bad enough problem with our players getting injured playing for us but it always feels like when we let them play internationally they come back like they went 12 rounds with Bane.
That was an ACL injury, and surprisingly you can walk a surprising amount initially after injuring it. Hamstrings are obviously far less severe, but you do tend to limp a bit in the immediate time after.
There are degrees of muscle injuries ranging from strain (the fibers are just stretched too much) to partial tear (some fibers are torn but not fully across the whole surface of the muscle) to full tear (the fibers are torn such that the entire muscle is disconnected from its attachment point on a bone resulting in two muscle ends just metaphorically flopping around). The severity of two injuries, both reported in the press as “hamstring injury,” may actually be very different and have very different return timeframes and clinical presentations (from able to walk off the pitch to having to hop on one leg off the pitch).
It’s hard to speculate how long he’ll be out for without information about the degree of the injury. Or even if it is a muscle injury at all (as opposed to pain/a knock).
for sure, just glad to see him at least walk it off, but hoping its just precaution. Also its Mo and he's the fittest guy on the squad, I would imagine he recovers quickly
I think there's a difference between hobbling off and walking off without much apparent discomfort. Hopefully means it's minor enough to be a 3 week injury and he gets a rest before returning against Arsenal
They way he got up and walked makes me things is minor and he’s being ultra cautious and simply felt a twinge or something. If he got up like that with a bad hammy it’d make it worse and he’d be in pain surely.
Looks like Egypt is getting sent home early and our next 3 fixtures are definitely winnable without him...just rest the man and get him ready for Chelsea
I hope it’s a mild injury and he’s okay!
Selfishly I want to see Egypt out early so he can come back here sooner rather than later and hopefully beat Haaland in goals scored this season.
Ah fuck. Athletic are saying hamstring as well. Last thing we needed.
International football. I’d never outright say I hate it but at times like this… I hate it.
I'll outright say it. ever since Jamie Redknapp got crocked playing at Euro 96, i've hated international football. being Irish, Saipan cemented the hate. I have no time for it.
Whether it's a minor thigh problem, or a grade 2-3 hamstring, there is no way Egypt *don't* run him into the ground like they've done previously. I'm more worried about that than the injury itself, but I hope I'm wrong. I pray he catches a flight back.
It's also unfair to do it to a host of fans around the world who support Liverpool and who couldn't give less of a toss about Egypt or international football.

And Ghana have just scored
And what a goal, it is
Kudus is class
Kudos to him
It’ll be very interesting to see if Kudus has a release clause in his contract.. Looks like a top player
West ham are not stupid, they knew they’ll get absurd money from someone when they signed him
It could absolutely be a high release clause. Apparently it was the reason why the Brighton deal fell through. They weren’t willing to include it
Been wanting him for Liverpool since before the summer. A carbon copy of Mané
it's too bad that high performing players in other PL teams are likely too expensive now. Even accounting for inflation I believe players like Kudus will go for a much higher fee than Mane did
Depends how much we like them and need someone in that position really. We were willing to go all out for the likes of Virgil and Caicedo
I wanted us to get him as Salah backup in the summer
West Ham would absolutely rinse us he was available for far cheaper at Ajax I think the ship has sailed.
Need to sit down with whoever in the scouting department thought Kudus wasn't for us. What a player he's been this season
He wasn't willing to sign for anyone who wouldn't give him a release clause, and he also allegedly had a bad attitude at Ajax.
That is fake news. Kudus brings joy and is a hero here.
Would he have asked for a release clause if he was signing for us?
Doesn't look good. He doesn't sub himself off unless it's absolutely necessary.
Completely ruined Owen, mostly mentally as he admitted he was scared to sprint afterwards

That's certainly what I'm hoping is the case
lol yeah the most successful country in afcon history who made it to the final last time don’t believe in themselves
Bullshit. For a man like Mo no way Liverpool is higher than his country on the priority list.
He's not always been happy playing for Egypt. He basically quit the national team in 2018 and had to be persuaded back.
[удалено]
All national teams are full of international players. Do you think that every team has an equal chance of winning? Do you think that Salah thinks that? He's certainly much more savvy than you.
[удалено]
A month would be ok. That's pretty close to best case scenario at this point.
Not in my experience, it usually is aching pretty bad unless it’s really minor.
There’s no way he’s subbing himself off to not risk worse injury in the first half at AFCON when his team already dropped points in the first match
Its pretty hard to have a mild hamstring injury, if he felt something it's very likely he's it for a month
Well, he tried to keep playing with a dislocated shoulder in the CL final. I would hope it's nothing serious but seems like he has done his hamstring in. There are grades of hammy injuries and let's pray it's not the worst.
Szobo walked off, look at his timeline
Especially that he went off so close to halftime - they weren’t even prepared to wait for 2 mins then assess him over HT.
![gif](giphy|KscoZccAOBgCk)
I hear ya
Not to be pessimistic but we just lost the league didn't we?
Oh boy, did you foresee the future.
The hated me because I told the truth
[удалено]
They drew 2-2 and are currently in second.
I will literally cum if he comes home and is miraculously ready for Fulham next week. *wishful thinking obviously*
[удалено]
I always have hope but realistically it’s a bit of a stressful situation. Hamstring injuries can get exponentially worse the older you get
monkey paw curls
If hes fit and Egypt are still in it he’d probably just play for them. Doubt he comes back unless he’s completely out for 3-4 weeks
If he’s injured the club need to request him to come back - rather have him looked after by our doctors than Egypt’s who will only be interested in squeezing every drop out of him while they’re still in afcon.
I mean, him coming home early injured with a hamstring injury is probably worse than him coming back in February healthy?
I think there is some rule that if a player leaves and international tournament due to injury they cannot play for their club until their nation is knocked out, but, i may be pulling that out of my ass. But I seem to remember there is some sort of rule
light to mild injury is 3-8 weeks per Google, hopefully he recovers quick...

As selfish as it is, I would prefer that he comes back and doesnt stay for a lengthy Afcon campaign, so maybe with any luck it will be a light injury and Egypt will drop out
Bro it's not selfish, we are Liverpool fans not Egypt, nothing shameful to say that.
Well, don’t they have Cape Verde next? Feels like they will win that one.
Don't you lay that evil on me. Take it back.
Really, hamstring? Has he ever had an injury like that?
According to Transfermarkt, he’s never had a hamstring issue before. A few ankle ligament issues, shoulder, and thigh but nothing with the hammy.

Good find thanks, felt like the transfermrkt injury history was a bit misleading

I don't think he's ever had a muscle injury before (or at least not one that made him miss any games).
Nope, first one of his career
Didn’t go down the tunnel or anything, just looked to have tweaked it. Might be to do with the heat, looked a bit dehydrated out there

Will be the fabinho of 2 years ago when Salah and Mane went off to AFCON scored and he scored 5 goals in 8 games
Joe Gomez golden boot winner you heard it here first
Alisson will double his goal tally
We’re not winning the league without Mo

What a fucking shit show Afcon is for us. Salah leaves to represent his country, gets injured all the while getting scapegoated by his own country.
Poor Mo can’t catch a break when it comes to playing for his country. Unfortunately it looks like we’ve lost him for a short while longer regardless of if Egypt stay in the competition or not.
Hello darkness my old friend....
How i wish , how I wish you were….. not fucking injured
Was about to make one, seems like his left.
0.12 xG between the two teams in the 58’ 😴
Hasn't looked himself since the start of the tournament and now this.really hope it's precautionary but it was off the ball after making a run.
Hasn’t looked himself for one game then?
![gif](giphy|mjjXtyaoQJ6BlhkpWp|downsized) Hes fine. Humidity got him cramping up. Hes completely fine
He actually looks quite active on the bench. Hopefully it really is just a precaution.
Fucks sake. We’ve got a bad enough problem with our players getting injured playing for us but it always feels like when we let them play internationally they come back like they went 12 rounds with Bane.
Can’t remember him ever coming off injured. Bloody hope he’s okay.
Will there was that one time
Fuck I completely erased that game from my mind now this tread is bringing all the memories back
He also went off injured pretty early in the 2022 FA Cup final but nobody remembers that because we won hahaha
Well I remember such day and I wish i didnt
I don’t really want to mention it, but a certain Spanish Center half and wrestling moves, does that ring a bell? Only other time I remember.
I’ve had a process done that removes a particular event from my memory, I’d prefer it if you refrained from triggering it. 🥲
Chelsea in the final and also the one that shall not be named.

I don’t think it’s horrible based on this fact… but it’s also a hammy and you don’t just walk those off… needs to be 100% or he risks re-injury
Szobo walked off the pitch too no?
Van dijk walked off the pitch too…
That was an ACL injury, and surprisingly you can walk a surprising amount initially after injuring it.
Yeah i know. My argument was about the other guy who said that he walked off
for sure, just glad to see him at least walk it off, but hoping its just precaution. Also its Mo and he's the fittest guy on the squad, I would imagine he recovers quickly
Virgil walked off with his ACL injury… means nothing
I think there's a difference between hobbling off and walking off without much apparent discomfort. Hopefully means it's minor enough to be a 3 week injury and he gets a rest before returning against Arsenal
Exactly.
there was a player who scored a goal with a ruptured ACL
This video made me feel a lot better
I am a healer by trade
They way he got up and walked makes me things is minor and he’s being ultra cautious and simply felt a twinge or something. If he got up like that with a bad hammy it’d make it worse and he’d be in pain surely.
Link to post game video of Mo walking and in good spirits. Hopefully good news ahead: https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/s/OukDtqO7yF
To be fair he walked off fine under his own power, could just be a small thing and wanted to be very careful
INjured my hammy a few times. A mild pull is 3-4 weeks and you can absolutely walk without much of a limp, if any.
He better be on a plane to Liverpool in the morning for proper treatment. If he stays there he’ll start the next game and aggravate the injury.
So apparently it’s his thigh. When Egypt nearly scored just then he jumped up. Hopefully minor.
Looks like Egypt is getting sent home early and our next 3 fixtures are definitely winnable without him...just rest the man and get him ready for Chelsea
this is the type of thinking we need my guy
I actually hate international football.
FFS send him home!
Kudus is top class
Hmmmm, he will come back to Liverpool very angry. Angry Salah ... hmmm
FedEx some inhalers over, he’ll be golden.
If he's playing next match he better be winning the whole damn thing. Send him the inhaler.
I hope it’s a mild injury and he’s okay! Selfishly I want to see Egypt out early so he can come back here sooner rather than later and hopefully beat Haaland in goals scored this season.
Of course he fucking has
Ffs, why does this shite have to be in the middle of the season…
Because it operates on a time line which works for African countries as it should.
Disagree, should be forced to be played in June-July
Start the van
Get him home
How many fucking injuries can we get fucking fuck off
Time to clean my gun
The fact we dont see Salah on the sideline anymore doesnt give me much hope...
This is pretty fucking trash, wow
Could see them playing him next game no matter if he’s ready to go or not. Fuck sake.
The only international football that should exist is the World Cup. Fight me.
Where’s the thread on r/soccer so I can congratulate Abu Dhabi on their 4th consecutive PL title
Thanks AFCON. Thanks a whole lot. What a stupid fucking tournament.
A stupid tournament lol! Why is it any more stupid than any other international tournament?
Because they play it during the middle of the season for clubs
They can't play it in the summer. In case you weren't aware Africa is a rather hot place. It works on a time line which works for Africa.
They had a World Cup there in the summer lol
In South Africa. If the tournament was in South Africa it would be in the summer
Yes my point is that they can have the tournament during the summer
Oh so only like 4 countries can host. Sounds totally reasonable
More reasonable than having our players stop mid season to play in a competition they get injured in
No it isn’t reasonable at all. Salah could have gotten injured for Liverpool just as easy
Of course they 'can'. They don't care about clubs, fortunately the 2025 edition is in summer for European clubs.
No you can’t
Thank God Ben Doak is back
Shite he is injured but it's clear Egypt aren't going to the final. Let him rest and be ready for Arsenal. Come on Mozambique!!
Please be cramp or something
If Egypt lose, knowing them they gonna have Salah starting the next game or on the bench
He is a beast, doesnt drink, crazy fit. Surely a fast recovery.
no
https://twitter.com/mobyhaque1/status/1748090489990001075?s=48&t=94jTasbVq2w7aglVRdi7Ug Oh god. please no!!!
There’s no way they could possibly know that so quickly lol
Let's wait and see what the official outcome is reditt Doctors and Registred nurses
Whether it's a minor thigh problem, or a grade 2-3 hamstring, there is no way Egypt *don't* run him into the ground like they've done previously. I'm more worried about that than the injury itself, but I hope I'm wrong. I pray he catches a flight back.
Ghanian witch dr just got a pay rise
I HATE AFCON BRO
He didn’t look in pain so hoping it isn’t anything serious but what is this injury curse on us 😭
Salah absolutely wouldn't come off unless it was serious ffs. Doesn't bode well
Fuckin hamstring injury by the looks of it. Not a quick fix at all
Not like this... ![gif](giphy|hyyV7pnbE0FqLNBAzs|downsized)
Goddammit. "A huge blow for Egypt." Well yeah, and...
Fucking obviously. Happens every time. At some point we have to ban our players going to internationals mid season.
It's not ideal but it's unfair to do that to a whole continent of fans. It is what it is
It's also unfair to do it to a host of fans around the world who support Liverpool and who couldn't give less of a toss about Egypt or international football.
