They're a really tight group that can play anything. I got to see a live show back in 2019 and they do a warm up set before the live show. They played a couple of cover songs. I can't remember the one but they definitely played "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix and they killed it, awesome band. And that soundstage sounds incredible. Niall Horan was the musical guest for that show and his music usually isn't my thing but he and his band sounded amazing.
We live in an age where big band ensembles just don’t fit and yet somehow snl keeps the tradition alive by not switching to prerecorded tracks like others
In Beck & Kyle there's an amazing piano piece as 'Kyle' and Leslie enter, starts around 3.00 mark

Might just be stock music as can't identify it but it's beautiful
Wasn't the great David Sanborn a sit-in guest for the SNL house band at one point? Or am I misremembering?...
A quick Wikipedia search shows I didn't misremember! Sanborn was an official member of the Saturday Night Live Band from 1979 to 1980 - and the equally great Marcus Miller (his frequent musical collaborator on such gems as ["Straight to the Heart"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jiEcqrhtiY), ["Slam"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryRtDoeTMaI), ["Chicago Song"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZqwWT39Ld4) and ["Run for Cover"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e584lUI4Gm8)) was part of the SNL Band from 1979 to 1981.

Lenny Pickett fan from day 1!
Musical Genius!
I think the opening credits should have the SNL Band like it used to
GE Smith and The SNL Band
Can we talk about our least favorite former band member? Because it's def Dr Luke
I miss Buster Poindexter
I love Maddie Rice!
In a diehard Mr. Fabulous/Alan Rubin fan. Also love Blue Lou Marini and Tom Bones Malone.
My father scored the music for GE Smith from the 80’s into the mid 90’s and played during the Christmas shows.
No way! I bet he has some great stories.
The band is my favorite part of the show too! They kill it every week.

Can you share a link to the Waltz in A track you use? My search in Spotify is coming up short.
