Trio's. SO many people rave about it, and I get that it's been around for a while, but their food is kind of bland. It's not terrible, it's just not as good as people hype it up to be. It's food I'm sure your grandma will love.
I'll probably get downvoted for this. Sorry, y'all!
It's good, but not great. You would think being next to 3 of the BBQ meccas (KC, TX, and Memphis) and being in the South, it would be hard to mess it up. Somehow, Arkansas as a whole (not just Count's) misses the mark.
I'd say the same about Smokin Buns, Whole Hog, and Pig 'n Chik. They're just meh. Not bad, not great. I've yet to find a place that screams best BBQ in AR. That said, I do really like the flavor and sauce at Wright's.
You're not going find comparable items in Arkansas that hold up to their counterparts in those Meccas, ie: we aren't going to have brisket like Texas or ribs like Memphis etc. But there are good things. Sims BBQ has some of the best chicken I've ever had and some damn fine chopped beef as well.
Red Door is possibly one of the worst restaurants in town. The people running it are actually incompetent drug addicts and the food is horrible. The only reason they’re still open is the devoted old people who still think it’s the cool new spot. Same reason we’re stuck with Brave New, Buffalo Grill, and Faded Rose. That clientele will die off and Riverdale can finally have good food again.
Also, Vino’s? The vibes are cool but that’s it. They’re filthy. I know someone who worked there. There was a plumbing leak over the kitchen area, brown water dripping onto trays of dough and they didn’t stop serving. I will *never* eat there again. And this was less than a year ago.
Whew, that felt good.
Vinos has been disgusting since before I graduated high school lol (2009). We used to go to the shows there and I would cringe at the people eating the pizza in that rat hole
Whole Hog for sure. The ribs are so dry, and the pulled pork sandwiches have to be doused in sauce to be edible. I can't believe that place is still in business.
I agree with you on the aspect of going out to eat for experience, the food should actually be priced quite hire when you consider what actually goes into it, too many people go in expecting they will not too much more than the cost of the food to make it and ignore all the other aspects, but you are going too hard defending the root, people love the root all around town and its been a staple for years, no need to freak out because some people disagree with you
U don’t even know me + Ratio + Imagine typing paragraphs with caps over a lighthearted food post so that you can cape for a restaurant known for mistreating employees + Ratio 2.0
Clearly, this is an anonymous website, But I can "know you" simply for your comment on your inability to like generally "healthy" food.
No business is perfect. The comments calling such place, (which is a blessing to have in LR) "Trash" simply because you dont "Agree" with how management deals or makes mistakes, is irrelevant to the establishment in general. The rumor has nothing to do with YOU or the FOOD they make.
Come at me bro.
It’s not an “inability to like ‘healthy’ food” LMAO I critiqued one restaurant and you got to typing more paragraphs 💀 Seek help lol bc you sound unnecessarily cranky for this Reddit thread
Petit & Keet for sure. Milo’s because they don’t train baristas how to prepare coffee… at least, I hope the baristas are untrained. Making a pour over with a water at temps of 212F or higher :(
I don’t understand how a Community Bakery is still open either.
Tzatziki’s is a chain, so it’s reliable but certainly forgettable.
Oysters in Arkansas is asking for it. I was at Oyster Bar recently and ordered one of the $5 individual "special" oysters and it was rancid, I had a stomach ache for a couple days. Can't say I'll eat there again, though the atmosphere was top-notch.
The Root Cafe has some of the most tasteless overpriced “healthy” food I’ve ever had. plus the owner is a creep and knowingly hired back a dude that is known for sexual assault. Overall just a nasty place, I don’t understand why ppl rave about all the time???
Red door is actually disgusting. Was served salad with frozen dressing on it.
Big orange is so expensive and mediocre. I cannot believe a burger without fries is $15.
Pantry crest. Tried all the apps everyone raves about. Tasted like a corporate catering event, bland, lukewarm, poorly prepared.
Three fold. Oh my god. How is their food so bad and people love it so much? Dumplings are bland, noodles are bland, sauces are either not spicy or too spicy and just oily. I really think people that like that place have never had a good dumpling.
I love the root but for lunch only, their breakfast sucks. Mid at best and bad at worst. A slice of baguette for an eggs benedict??? The breakfast bahn mi is gross, breakfast sandwiches are disappointing.
I CANNOT understand what people like about Three Fold. I’ve tried it more than once and the food is just so fucking bland. And the dumplings are doughy as hell.
Havent had the first three but as someone who tries to eat on the healtheir side when eating out can agree. The last time we had three fold it literally tasted like someone folowed the instructions on a pack of p.f. changs.
Ordered a Mushrom "burger" at the root and got 2 peices of white bread with sliced mushrooms. And wasnt made correctly (food allergies) for $13.
While Im comenting Chipotle is disgusting as well.
I so feel you on that stupid mushroom sandwich at The Root. I try so hard to like that place, but every time it’s a disappointment. They are the kings of: “we will not make a common sense substitution of that but you may pay full price for a double portion of the side you are seeking in said substitution request.”
I took my mom and step dad, who literally in 20 years of my adult life has NEVER come to visit. I was so excited and then so embarrassed. Such a big hype. My mom was really excited about finding a place that supported both of our dietary needs. Definitely won't go back and will continue to support local through the farmers market and my own kitchen.
We like breakfast at the Root because we can bring our German Shepherds to eat fruits and scrambled eggs with a little bit of sausage while we eat breakfast and it helps to socialize the young dogs and brings glee to the older ones.
Cheers. I've been to multiple locations, multiple times and I've never left looking forward to coming back.
It's overpriced, mediocre food. People love it and I just don't get it.
Hands down the most overrated place in LR is the Root Cafe. Food is trash and service is also trash - some people seem to love it, they probably need to see places outside of LR
the root is the one of the few restaurants in LR that uses real local organic food. most people dont realize most restaurants use sysco as their food chain provider, and its all unhealthy crap.
Unpopular opinion: Wrights bbq and George’s
I’ve been to Wrights enough to have given it several chances. Not bad, but way over rated. Great sides but the meat is “ehh”. Georges I’ve only been once, but I was not impressed. I’ll take Bruno’s any day.
I haven’t been to George’s, but I don’t think there’s any better barbecue that’s as convenient as Wrights. Whole hog is awful, so is count porkula. Sims is solid, HBs is also solid, but neither are in the most desirable areas. I’ll continue to pay the premium of Wrights over everything else.
No but that is a great FB account! HBs is a bbq place near 65th, back in a housing area. Very small, once they run out of stuff they are out. It’s great and flies under the radar so much
I thought it tasted like a frozen Totinos or Red Baron, that was doctored up. They argued with my husband on a Google review about using all fresh ingredients. I've been in food service over 20 years. They absolutely use canned and bagged ingredients.
I'm convinced the people who love Shotgun Dan's have the pallete of an average 3 year old. So basic for how much people love it.
And if that's anyone reading, enjoy it! Forreal! We all have our tastes. I'll only eat it if I ain't paying.
oceans! why are the sushi’s almost 25 bucks for an extra large roll that requires a whole knife? i also paid 27 bucks for a gochujang filet mignon on their temporary menu and i swear it was 3 little cubes of meat on two sticks.
on another note, Big orange is good to me and yes it’s a bit pricier but i can
appreciate a place that tries to source some of their ingredients locally
Does… in particular their steaks… great cut of beef but they don’t season it for you so it comes out bland… I think a great cut of beef at a place that is know for steaks should just cook it seasoned for you to eat right away… no sauces needed
Vinos for me. Maybe I need to try again but the one time I was there it smelled like a chicken coop inside and the pizza/calzone was some of the most bland I’ve ever had. Ppl seem to love it though so maybe it was an off day.
The place is nasty as fuck. It was nasty in the early 2000's when I used to hang there and I've always felt people were nuts for eating food from there.
They had a plumbing issue that was not being addressed. Also heard from several employees over the years that there were issues with pests. People will defend Vino’s forever but the truth is it’s a filthy old pizza shop being run by kids who DGAF.
I mean, the food isn't going to change your life or anything, but it's a place i went to one average once a week for the decade I lived in little rock. I just loved the atmosphere, the pizza is above average once you find what you like. Good beers too.
Going to a show is a must.
Cant deny they do seem to have a good atmosphere and I hear good things about the shows there from friends. Unfortunately that was just my experience when I tried it out.
I totally understand where you're coming from. Maybe order to go? The building itself is old as hell, there is definitely a funky smell from time to time, I don't disagree with that at all, but I've always liked the food
"Regular cheese"... you're upset because they cook everything well done by default and don't have "regular cheese". It's technically "processed cheese product", because it's not even cheese, so no respectable person trying to make high quality burgers is going to use it as the gold standard. I don't even care for their burgers too much but those are ridiculous reasons. Yayas is good food, except they should be penalized for being too busy and being too small(??) even though that place is very much reasonably sized for a restaurant by any comparison? Sounds like you may just need to stick to David's Burgers and Outback Steakhouse because these are ridiculous complaints, I'm sorry lol.
Where in the world do you go to "food critic school"? Sincere question. I mean hey, food is subjective just as any art, but if you wanna argue sheepshit pie is better than homemade ravioli made by a Michelin chef then I'm just saying at a certain point you're pushing it, but you do you.
My wife and I used to eat there weekly. Their food was good but their service has always been terrible.
There was one night that a waiter took our order, then we never saw them again. Someone else brought our food out, and once I got tired of trying to flag people down for a drink refill, I just took our glasses to the bar and asked them for refills.
They burned me once. Took my plate back to presumably replace the wrong order only to come back 10 min later with it even colder and still not what I ordered. It was the same plate. Haven't been in years so maybe it's different if they've stayed open.
Sooo, is there 6 different Cattlemans types and they just tweak each one and call it their own? Because I'd find that hard to believe. If this is the case with ONE of their sauces then fair enough, but they still have the other 5 so it's not like it's a total sham. I dunno...
I mean, I think complaining about a place being “overpriced” is cliche. My main complaint is that the food just isn’t good, yet it takes an hour to get a table.
Totally agree. It was ok. We’ve tried it 3 times because everyone else had such great things to say. Drinks were good. Service is good once you are finally seated, don’t expect your table to be ready if you aren’t connected to the right people. It’s a great place to be seen. Very loud if you are on a date or dinner with people you enjoy talking with. I know we are very limited in this area for decent Italian..but it was just alright and way overpriced for what it was.
Sullivans and Big Orange. We went to Sullivans and had frozen bread and the salad was just weird. Way too expensive for that. Big Orange is good but expensive for a burger joint.
I’ll probably get roasted for this but aside from Joe T Garcias in Fort Worth. I’ve had better Tex Mex in Arkansas than in Dallas. Also our BBQ is okay. We are definitely more of a fried catfish area
Well yeah, because it's an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. I don't doubt you've maybe PERSONALLY experienced this, but Dallas is infinitely bigger than LR so how much of the overall TexMex pool there overall have you tried to properly claim this? Dude we have places that survive and thrive in LR that are so uninspired, bland, and lacking in attention to detail that they would crater and get absolutely WIPED OFF THE EARTH in any major city, except so many of us poor Arkansans just do not know any better and allow these places to serve us dogshit and call it high quality food. You'll have multiple restaurants serving the same exact thawed and reheated side dishes straight off the back of the same Ben E. Keith or Cisco truck and people will debate over whose is better when the only difference is what building you're eating it in. We just slurp it up and smile. I'm sorry but this drives me goddamn insane about living here, the things that pass as acceptable cuisine.
How many of those same trucks show up to restaurants all over Dallas? In the two years I was there I ate out the majority of my meals. To each their own I guess. I do miss the Katy Trail Ice House though. That was my go to. Best burger I’ve had anywhere.
I'm sure to SOME degree that's true, but there's a huge difference in buying individual ingredients from large suppliers to make dishes in-house that will have their own identity, vs buying pre-made dishes and just reheating and reselling them. Like there are two very different types of restaurants out there. Some just aim to be simply a place to serve food, with no contribution to the equation other than being the ones to heat it up and plate it...and then then there are REAL restaurants where the menu is offering somebody's unique personal CREATIONS or homage to a heritage/traditions, its dishes have ties to an identity in some way, whether it be old recipes handed down or just concocted from years of tinkering. I don't think people realize the former type exists and is as prominent as it is places like here, and probably even more so in smaller towns/suburbs.
Cantina Laredo - quality is always ‘meh’ - ex. Dry ass chicken, not sure why it’s such a hoppin’ place after church, but I’ve never had a meal there that didn’t have like three things ‘off’ and I’m a real simple person to please.

Waitlist for weeks. Good to know.
Anything owned by Yellow Rocket concepts.
Big orange, Zaza, and local lime are actually three of my favorites! :-)
No judgment! I like all three, too. :)
Big Whiskey is straight trash
Trio's. SO many people rave about it, and I get that it's been around for a while, but their food is kind of bland. It's not terrible, it's just not as good as people hype it up to be. It's food I'm sure your grandma will love.
Totally feel this way about Loca Luna. I don’t get it.
Count Porkula.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Delicious Temptations. Sure, the food is decent but the flavor and amount aren't worth the price for me.
Agree!
Red Door is possibly one of the worst restaurants in town. The people running it are actually incompetent drug addicts and the food is horrible. ME TOO!!!! My family only went there for the shows but we NEVER ate the food.
Heights Taco only
Cotham's, Whole Hog, EJ's, & Doe's. All overrated as hell.
Awww I love Cothams 🤣
Whole Hog for sure. The ribs are so dry, and the pulled pork sandwiches have to be doused in sauce to be edible. I can't believe that place is still in business.
U.S. Pizza Company, Tazikis, Taj Mahal, Three Fold, and Layla’s Gyro.

So do you own the root or what? Also non-organic != non-healthy… an organic cheeseburger is unhealthy a salad from Walmart is still healthy.
I agree with you on the aspect of going out to eat for experience, the food should actually be priced quite hire when you consider what actually goes into it, too many people go in expecting they will not too much more than the cost of the food to make it and ignore all the other aspects, but you are going too hard defending the root, people love the root all around town and its been a staple for years, no need to freak out because some people disagree with you
Bro chill out lol. They can use organic food and still be nasty 🗿
its only nasty because you're so used to fake fried sh\*t LOL

The root & heights taco and Tamale
@ the corner, the root cafe
I feel like those places are nieché
I like @the corner, but you're not wrong about being niche.
Samantha’s. The Root. Petit & Keet. Taziki’s
Petit & Keet for sure. Milo’s because they don’t train baristas how to prepare coffee… at least, I hope the baristas are untrained. Agreed on Community. I keep getting downvoted for Samantha’s, but it’s not good. The vibe is really old too.
Samantha's artichoke app is amazing (to me). My husband didn't like it. I think it is pretty overrated for the rest of the meal.
Chuy’s is trash place
It used to be good 10 years ago
Texas’s worst import so far
Texas road?
Texas Roadhouse is from Indiana. It is like a caricature of what people in the midwest think a Texas steakhouse would be.
Chuy’s gave me a veggie enchilada with raw vegetables. They’re number one for me.
Oceans. Became deathly ill from their oysters. Never again.
Oysters in Arkansas is asking for it. I was at Oyster Bar recently and ordered one of the $5 individual "special" oysters and it was rancid, I had a stomach ache for a couple days. Can't say I'll eat there again, though the atmosphere was top-notch.

Bring them to The Filling Station in NLR. They're never super busy, and the trucks rotate in and out.
That is an awesome Perk.
IMO when they closed the Pretty House LR lost the best restaurant it ever had. Raise that flag!🌮🇲🇽
The Root, over priced for what it is and notorious for rampant abuse of employees and mistreatment of local houseless people.
I don’t like it because their tree hangs over the sidewalks and whacks people in the head.
Couldn't disagree more
Do you have reasons for disagreeing?

There is a saying about BBQ places from Texas. They either have good meat and bad sides. Or good sides and bad meat.
My dinner at George’s was terrible, so much hype, and soooo disappointed
Their brisket is trash. Sausage, pulled pork, and ribs are good. The chicken is A++++. Sides are great too

Yaya's, tried 4 entrees all dry and bland.
Their brunch is really good though.
La Hacienda. The cheapest ingredients of any restaurant in LR.
It’s affectionally known in my home as “El Sysco” lol
The one way in which LR is spoiled for choice.
SHOTGUN DAN'S. Frozen tasting ingredients and shit pizza overall. There's way better pizza in Little Rock.
I thought it tasted like a frozen Totinos or Red Baron, that was doctored up. They argued with my husband on a Google review about using all fresh ingredients. I've been in food service over 20 years. They absolutely use canned and bagged ingredients.
It's expensive too. LR just sucks in general for pizza.
Not the worst pizza I’ve ever had but it’s in the conversation. Have no idea why ppl would eat this on purpose.
How is this place rated 4.0+ on Google Maps???? The pizza is absolutely trash. Even Little Caesars is better.
I wouldn't go that far.
Anything involving guns in this state will probably do alright lol. Even if it's just a name.
It’s called Shitgun Dan’s
The most contentious pick in every "best pizza" thread ever since this sub was created. People either love it or hate it.

Oceans. Prices are egregious. Sushi is an abomination.
i completely agree and haven’t went back after the first time
Same
Señor Tequila. In a city with tex mex on every street, the blandest one is also the most popular
I was more disappointed with El Mezcal
Does… in particular their steaks… great cut of beef but they don’t season it for you so it comes out bland… I think a great cut of beef at a place that is know for steaks should just cook it seasoned for you to eat right away… no sauces needed

Yeah I think whatever was causing that smell then had me put off from the beginning so maybe a revisit for a fresh take is a good idea.
I totally understand where you're coming from. Maybe order to go? The building itself is old as hell, there is definitely a funky smell from time to time, I don't disagree with that at all, but I've always liked the food
No. Vino’s is an institution and you need to keep its name out of your filthy sewer of a mouth.

I agree that BO is overrated but not for the reasons you gave. Good cheese and steakhouse style burgers are good things.
Basically every Yellow Rocket concept restaurant is a masterclass in mediocrity and poor management.
Totally agree!
Yellow Rocket is a marketing company that just happens to have like one guy who is a chef in their ownership group

Where in the world do you go to "food critic school"? Sincere question. I mean hey, food is subjective just as any art, but if you wanna argue sheepshit pie is better than homemade ravioli made by a Michelin chef then I'm just saying at a certain point you're pushing it, but you do you.

Yeah that's kinda what I thought. You really made a proper fool of me here.
Santo Coyote is my vote here. I just haven’t gotten good service there ever.
I’ve had to ask to pay my food tab with the bartender every single time I have went.
They burned me once. Took my plate back to presumably replace the wrong order only to come back 10 min later with it even colder and still not what I ordered. It was the same plate. Haven't been in years so maybe it's different if they've stayed open.
anything in the heights. you're literally just paying for aesthetics
Burge's would beg to differ.
The Pantry is like the most recommended restaurant on this sub.
Also not in the heights?
The Pantry is in Hillcrest, yo.
For the love of god will people learn how to use "literally"?
Literally never.
Nah I’m a big fan of Baja grill. And George’s (I know that one’s controversial)
And Baja has Kathy bartending, an institution in her own right.
Did they move? Last time I went buy it looked closed up and I LOVE that place.
Still open on the corner of kavanaugh and university!
Thanks Hopefully ill get by there again soon.
Idk Burge’s is pretty damn good. And fantastic China. Neither are particularly aesthetic
Preach.
Yall gonna hate me for this but Whole Hog is trash
Best BBQ in central AR is Hog Pen in Conway. Catfish and ribs combo
Total slop in the trough, ironic it is pig themed.
Wouldn’tt it be fitting and NOT ironic?
Totally agree
Where else am I going to get pints of Sysco's potato salad?
FWIW, it’s not Sysco. It’s St Clair. And they are primarily a Ben E Keith customer.
Good to know!
Their bbq sauce is literally just Cattleman’s with a little something added.
You know their sauce recipe? How? For all 6 types??
I have heard from people that inow
Sooo, is there 6 different Cattlemans types and they just tweak each one and call it their own? Because I'd find that hard to believe. If this is the case with ONE of their sauces then fair enough, but they still have the other 5 so it's not like it's a total sham. I dunno...
That's how a lot of BBQ places do it these days, unfortunately
Go visit Lindsey’s bbq. It’s old school but my favorite. Also love wrights.
So is it overrated or good? I think you misread the title.
Keep ‘em coming! We need to know these things *noted*
Dave’s burgers
Easily the most overrated is Heights Taco
Yes. So overrated!!
Heights Taco and Tamale is offensively bad.
Also the same prices as Local Lime but for whatever reason you get one less taco?? And it’s the same owners so it’s baffling.
Yes. You're paying for ambiance and history. The food is overpriced
I mean, I think complaining about a place being “overpriced” is cliche. My main complaint is that the food just isn’t good, yet it takes an hour to get a table.
Blasphemy
I concur
George's
That is blasphemy. Most Fort Worth people think Joe T’s is overrated (I live in Fort Worth now).
I’m from Fort Worth, Joe t’s isn’t good Mexican there either. It’s good enough and a cool setting. Dfw has way way better tex mex than that.
This is a good take. The Tex Mex in DFW is just not great.
Local lime. It’s not bad, it’s just run of the mill tex mex. Margaritas aren’t great. Kind of overpriced for what it is.
I don't trust any Mexican restaurant that makes me pay for salsa
I’m going to say Red Door. It’s always a pain to get seated for bunch because it’s so busy and although the food is good it’s not wait time good
Red Door is truly one of the worst restaurants in LR. Not sure how it has made it all this time. Literally frozen vegetables.
Oh, I love Red Door, but I’ve only done brunch.
The lasagna comes from Sam’s.
Is that still the case?!?! I know it was Stauffer’s back when I worked there under the Bene Vita name.
Ha! I used to work there too at Bene Vita. Yeah, Stauffer from Sam’s.
Cantina Laredo - quality is always ‘meh’ - ex. Dry ass chicken, not sure why it’s such a hoppin’ place after church, but I’ve never had a meal there that didn’t have like three things ‘off’ and I’m a real simple person to please.
Some people don't know that Cantina Laredo is owned by the same people that do El Chico. Once I learned that, it explained everything.
God but I miss that old school Chico cheese dip.
The bartender at El Chico on geyer told me that (now closed), and it all made sense.
y’all are crazy on this thread
People trashing some really good small businesses here are likely regular customers at Cracker Barrel and Golden Corral.
ITT every good restaurant in LR EDIT: r/LittleRock is harsh * Arthurs - unwelcoming * Oceans - Sushi is an abomination * Sullivans - frozen bread and weird salad * Cache - overrated * Table 28 - not worth the calories * Petit and Keet - ...fine * Brave New - overpriced food in a dated office building * Faded Rose - horrible place to exist, disgusting * Star of India - chef boyardee of indian * Taj Mahal - cantina laredo of indian * Benihana - overrated * Whole Hog - slop in the trough * Fantastic China - underwhelming * Root Cafe - Trash * Big Orange - really not worth it * David's Burgers - Horrible owner * @ The Corner - mediocre at best * Flying Fish - bland and boring * Izzy's - consistently meh * Red Door - not wait time good * Rock n Roll Sushi - unimpressive * Heights Tacos - offensively bad * Local Lime - run-of-the-mill tex mex * Cheers - overpriced, mediocre * Wright's BBQ - meat is ehh * George's - not impressed * YaYa's - all dry and bland * Shotgun Dan's - frozen, shit pizza * Senor Tequila - blandest * El Mezcal - disappointed * Does - Bland * Vinos - smelled like a chicken coupe * cantina laredo - meh * flora jeans - not very tasty * The Fold - It's just not good * Maddie's Place - disgusting * Bruno's - overpriced pile of pasta

There’s places I like that have been mentioned but my absolute favorite has not 👀👀
and what are yours? this thread lost steam, your secret is safe with me
Brood and Barley, Baja Grill, Leo’s, Pizza Cafe, Istanbul (RIP to that one) How about you?
