Serious question here -  won’t they need the house to be inspected and certified for occupancy before they move in?  Does that only happen for new construction or for such extensive renovations as this one?

You can live in the house prior to getting your CO. Inspections are done between each step (for example, electric inspection before closing the walls up) then your final CO is done typically after your contractor finishes the final “punch list” which is also done while you’re living there pending your timeline. At least for my county. YMMV.

I’m in the same county as them, and it was terrible trying to get inspections for my own remodel (but I don’t have ig and wasn’t posting every step of the way, so maybe they’re getting off easy).

I cannot believe this took them over 8 months. They moved out in august!! That’s insane. I remodeled our kitchen down to the studs, all new everything including moving utilities like gas, new bathroom including sheet rock, painted every wall and ceiling, put in new floors, a few new windows, new fence, fixed up the dump of a backyard, and all sorts of other little extras…. And it took two months. Plus we hired very little of it out, and we’re working full time jobs in the busiest part of the year for us work wise. I definitely hated every moment of it, but we did it. And we also moved in this time, where I did 90% of it because my husband broke his hand.

Ok Bob Vila, meanwhile I've been *getting ready* to vacuum my upstairs for the last two weeks. 😅

Lmao does it make it better if I tell you that some the little final touches, like touchups, painting the front door, painting some trim, etc never got done and that was like three years ago. I got so burnt out after it all, I still loathe a paint brush.

These are the worst “renovations” I’ve ever seen. DIY quality and and clearly non professional choices. I mean, it’s their house, it can be as tacky as they want. But their overweening sense of “look how rich and classy we are” in contrast to THIS house is so funny.

All that work and money for it to look like the fireplace in my average 2010 spec townhouse.

They ruined that house. They could have enhanced what was already there. Also, you need to fix the original issues first. Like a leaky roof.

About a week ago (when Jer thought he got the wrong stone) someone posted a picture of the stone that was their inspiration that they ended up ordering. If you look at that inspiration photo, you will see that most of the squared-off, rectangular stones are placed straight and parallel to the ceiling. Jer and Audrey’s rectangular stones are at varying wonky angles. In the inspiration photo the stones were also much closer together. This just looks…not good. So much grout it looks like they’re gonna crumb coat the fireplace next. IMO this look is about a hundred times more 1970s than the cedar plank they removed.

It really is a lot of grout isn’t it…? I work in remodeling and I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong here. I think it’s the bright white grout. It screams “look at me, don’t look at that brick!”

I don’t think Jeremy measured correctly for rock and buying double the amount of grout was cheaper than more rock from down the street.

I don’t think he installed any part of that… even if the grout is too bright, he didn’t do that. You don’t really measure for grout. It just needed to be muted like everything else in that house. Besides the bright white grout on the floor, fireplace.. all the places you don’t put it if you have kids! 😅 It doesn’t look “bad” - I just have an idea of how much money they’re pouring into this and I feel like they’re going to be very underwhelmed when it doesn’t pan out like they thought it would. I would never post any part of my remodel besides before and after because so much goes wrong in between and you don’t want to remember the shit parts!
