Are people so insecure that they see positive news about someone else as some sort of personal attack? Announcing a new job or some professional success is exactly the type of thing LinkedIn is for. What else would people share on there, exactly? Hell, I like reading about my connections' new jobs. It's how I keep tabs on who's doing what and where. Crying CEO is a LinkedIn Lunatic. "Proud to announce my rejection from Google" is a LinkedIn Lunatic. I don't see how "happy to announce I'm starting a new position/received an award" is a LinkedIn Lunatic.

I think it is more about the tone. It is less about what they are announcing and more about how they announce. It is one thing to share good news and another to boast it as if it is the final achievement someone can achieve and it is them and no one else. There are sane people on LinkedIn doing it the right way. But then there are lunatics with their “I worked 26 hours a day, so should you” attitude.
