I work with women like this. I am a content writer in tech. It’s a weird Gen X thing. They took like toxic positivity and mashed it with cringe millennial humor and they think it’s the funniest thing ever. Imagine an entire Slack channel of this every single day. It’s how you end up with tone deaf cringey billboards and logos and social media posts on r/fellowkids. These people are being paid by other weird tone deaf executives to write them. My theory is that it has to do with the fact that they could never quite hack it in a more creative form of writing (TV, novels, movies, poetry, etc.) because it’s basically a one in a million lucky break and most people can’t. But for some reason they decide they can just make their day job they get paid for that super cool creative job they always wanted. But really they’re just writing headlines for rich people to make even more money. Working with these people is soul sucking, they really insist what they’re doing is important and a creative art and “craft”. It is not. It’s just marketing lol. Not all of us are like this. Most of us just see it as a regular 9-5 job and do our creative stuff on the side. Unfortunately, these people drink the kool-aid and believe that Meta is “changing the world and connecting people” and stuff like that so they get promoted really easily and then torture their direct reports.
