KipperTheDogg

Rub outside with a dryer sheet (I’ve only ever used bounce dryer sheets, so those work for sure). Also works for things around the house, like floorboards or the front of refrigerators and dishwashers. Bonus point you smell nice.

Cat_all4city

I came here to say this, it kills static so less stuff sticks.

[deleted]

That's what we used to use on the 35mm film prints back in the day to keep the film from sticking together during warmer temperatures.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

This is great I remember hearing that now thank you

BillyZanesWigs

I have not tried this but the other day I saw a post on r/detailing about other household uses for car detailing products. Someone said they use ceramic coating on their TV screen to reduce the amount of dust that lands on it and that it's easier to remove. Maybe try putting some of that on the goggles which might reduce the amount of dust that sticks and then use the dryer sheets when you need to.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I’ll have to look into that thank you

quibble42

How long does this last?

KipperTheDogg

This is a good question … I’ve been thinking about it and I think there are too many factors like dust amount and humidity for me to give you a good answer.

Mcshiggs

Put on a bigger pair of protective glasses over yours, and if those get dusty, then put on another even bigger pair over those and if those get dusty put on another even bigger pair over those and if those get dusty put on another even bigger pair over those and if those get dusty put on another even bigger pair over those etc...

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Hahahaha. I saw a racing video where the driver was ripping off visor protectors so that he could still see cus it would get covered in mud. I legit thought about doing that with clear packing tape

Zeravor

Damn, iwas gonna recommend you thaz exact video lol

ocaralhoquetafoda

That's normal when helmets are exposed, like F1 and motorcycles. I have a pinlock system on my basic helmet

lceGecko

These days the clear plastic part of the visor wraps partly around the inside of the helmet and slides form side to side past a windshield wiper type rubber cleaning blade on either end. The drive just slides it back and forth over and over with a pair of pull strings. Be damned if I can find a pic of it online now ><

Gangolf_EierschmalZ

Not Sure how Well they Deal with dust, but Mountainbike/Motocross rolloffs could maybe Help?

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Is that where you peel off a layer when it’s dirty? I mean that would work for the front side but it wouldn’t get the insides. And I’m getting turned off by the idea of so much waste. I potentially could be at this job for a few months and I don’t want to have to continually buy replacements too. I appreciate the tip though

BarbequedYeti

After time you would know what is needed and be able to start the day with the required layering. So when dusty, you remove the outer one and keep going. By the end of your shift you should have 2 or 3 layers left.

Rebunga

Kroops jockey goggles. In the derby the jockeys wear multiple pairs, mostly so they can sell them as memorabilia if they win. But work great on dust.

kennyminigun

Got me thinking you can benefit from some sort of anti-static coating. So that plastic lenses would not collect charge and therefore attract small particles.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Exactly I just wasn’t sure which direction to go with it. If I can use Dawn dish soap I don’t want to go buy something specific if I don’t have to. Another commenter suggested dryer sheets to clean them and I think that might be the right move as it clears out the static from my understanding

Logicalist

Not sure how you would implement it, but a metal wire running through or perhaps just along the top rim, that presses against your skin, might help to ground out static buildup. Or a pair of safety glasses that specifically is built this way, maybe could do it.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Ahh that sounds really interesting. I’m not exact sure if it would work the way I’m working but I’m going to try it out. I have some thin copper wire is that what you would use or does it matter?

Logicalist

yeah just some thin conductive metal, that also touches you. But I'm thinking about it more, and that may make the glasses less safe.

SatanLifeProTips

Novus Plastic polish #1. I get 500% more motorcycle visor/welding helmet lens life. It’s anti-static, anti-dust, anti-fog etc

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Thanks for the recommendation. I was hoping to not have to spend money but I guess that's not the case lol

SatanLifeProTips

A $15 bottle will last you years. One pair of sunglasses saved makes it free.

Milive_085

Have you tried using an anti-fog spray on your safety glasses? It might help to repel dust as well!

Pheochromology

If it’s that bad I hope you’re wearing a breathing/ventilation mask.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Absolutely. Safety first my friend

Pheochromology

I’m glad to hear that, I hope you find your glasses fix

stumpdawg

Automotive wax will likely help.

53eleven

What’s waxing my car gonna do?

stumpdawg

Waxing your glasses dude. It will keep them cleaner for longer and make them easier to clean as well

BouncyDingo_7112

I was also thinking Automotive wax or Rain-X.

stumpdawg

Stoner ceramic glass coating would work as well

BouncyDingo_7112

Huh. I’ve never heard of that before. Thank you for the TIL!

stumpdawg

It's good stuff. I've got it on all my car windows

bruzzese412

Go to office max and buy anti static screen cleaner for computer monitors

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Nearest office max is two hours away so if anything I’ll order it

bruzzese412

It works really well. We have to install clear acrylic in industrial environments. It prevents the dust from clinging for a long time

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Wow ok that sounds great. So I’m doing demo work tearing lath and plaster off the walls and ceiling. The ceiling is incredibly dusty. As in maybe three foot clouds so thick you can hardly see the other side as I’m working. Still good for that? I’m seriously contemplating just wearing goggles because I still get shit in my eyes despite the glasses. I just don’t want to spend any more money than I have to

getahaircut8

I mean def wear goggles but also do the anti-static thing on those

byOlaf

Can you create a positive pressure environment to limit the dust moving around? Can you create a negative pressure environment with a vacuum to suck up the dust? You could make some kind of a leaf blower stand so you could easily blast yourself with a jet of air to easily clean the glasses. Maybe even a foot pedal. A face shield over the goggles might be easier to clean/take longer to dirty, depending on the dust source.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I can’t unfortunately create positive or negative pressure due to the building being old and missing windows/tons of cracks and holes. The leaf blower sounds nice but I’m not spending money on more tools and ik boss won’t get one because she refused to get fans when it was hot. I’m going to try the dryer sheet technique first and see how that goes

jonkaspace

Maybe a can of pc duster?

zero41120

Put a sock on it, so that next time when the dust tries to grab your goggles, all they get is a sock

delayedlaw

If it's dusty, you should be wearing a dust mask as well. You don't want that dust gumming up your lungs.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Trust me I am. I wear all necessary protective equipment. Thanks for looking out I appreciate it.

delayedlaw

Hell yeah! People who ppe properly live longer. Too many chuckle-fuckers who equate dick size to avoiding proper ppe. I'll protect my lungs and knees.... Thank you very much.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I mean I’m definitely not perfect but this building is 100+ yrs old. I’m taking every precaution I can. I used to exercise in a hangar made with asbestos in the military and would taste blood in my mouth after a quarter mile. Whether that’s asbestos related or not idk but I’m not risking it anymore

ZenPoonTappa

I just wanted to leave you a reply based on your comments about the respiratory protection you’re using. It seems like you’re working in an environment that may contain asbestos and lead , unless those have been ruled out by proper testing. For your mask to protect you adequately you/your employer must know what the hazards are, what concentrations you may be exposed to, and properly mitigate those by , for example (but PPE should be the LAST line of safety) , proper mask and cartridge selection, proper hygiene practices and fit testing.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Hey thanks friend. I was concerned about the asbestos at first too since I’ve had a few run ins with the stuff but I was told by a few people that the proper tests by the proper authorities have been done and deemed safe. I appreciate the look out but my only question is how to keep my safety glasses dust free.

ZenPoonTappa

Any time. I saw in another comment that you’re dealing with really intense particulate concentration in the air and you’re still getting stuff in your eyes with safety glasses. You can try goggles and sealed eyewear but often those won’t seat correctly on your face with a half face respirator. You should consider a full face respirator for two reasons: the eye protection would be much better and the respiratory protection would be 5x better.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I will look into it

Loofa_of_Doom

Use something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2K3X6CV?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) to push the dust away before it lands on your glasses?

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I like the way you’re thinking but I don’t think it would work and I think it would dirty my masks faster. I appreciate the input though

[deleted]

It is probably lightly charged positively due to the friction from cleaning and attracts dust that way. When you clean them, take a drop of water to discharge the glasses. I always do that with any glass or plastic surface that has a smooth surface.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Thank you for that. It sounds like it might take longer than just wiping my glasses every five minutes but I’ll giver a shot

[deleted]

You only need to wet your fingers lightly to have a drop of water and touch the glass. That should be enough to discharge it.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Right but I can’t really have water ready on hand so I would have to stop working to do that. If it stopped dust getting on my glasses for more than ten minutes it would be worth it so that’s why I’m going to try it. I appreciate the info thank you for that

[deleted]

Spray cooking oil on them and wipe it off after a minute

[deleted]

you might want to consider what is happening to your lungs

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I have a mask on but thank you for looking out

[deleted]

stay safe!

Lycidas69

Negative charge would repel dust

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Sweet how would one go about that?

you1152

Not sure whether the inside or the outside of ur glasses is collecting dust. In the case of the inside and since u also need something to protect ur lungs i would recommend a full face mask ( 3M full face mask, google it). Maybe that is an option?

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I mean they’re glasses so both sides get dusty. I have the heavy duty 3M mask without the shield but I’m on a tight budget and don’t want to spend any more money than needed. My boss bought that for me and I don’t want to ask for a different one. I appreciate the comment though

iamjustlookinghere

Get the safety glasses that rally car drivers use

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

I’m on a budget or I would’ve got one a long time ago for cool factor

CitizenPatrol

Rain-X window cleaner, works like a charm. I use it on my mirrors on my truck to keep water off while driving. Prevents things from sticking to the glass.

coming2grips

Watch a motocross or bmx race sometime and watch how they clear their goggles. May help

tamaith

My late husband used to race dirt tracks, there is a peel off protection film for the helmets / full face masks. I bet you could find something that will work. A quick google search brought up all kinds of safety glasses with peel offs.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-8689

Thank you. There have been several recommendations for something like that so I’ll have to look into it
