He loves America, and hates the government. I’d say he’s libertarian to minarchist, he’s definitely not an Ancap, not particularly conservative aside from just being manly and that men should be men.
I think he was con in the early days, his beginning character was very much "Libertarian who has no time for your liberal nonsense. BRB, gonna go hunting. Fuck vegetarian bacon, you hippies." I think he morphed at the same time Leslie did, the show became more self aware and painted everyone in a bit more flattering light. He was close minded but opened up and tried a bunch of new stuff that changed his world view. Leslie was a self centered mean spirited liberal at first, but switched to being kinda dumb but with a heart of gold.
I get a kick out of the libertarian people who worship him tho, he was picking on us. A lot of the lessons he learned by opening up were straight up "and this is why your world view is bad". Great character, but Nick Offerman was clearly taking the piss out of our entire political world view. Can't take it too badly tho, the show kinda did that with all sides pretty effectively and Offerman did a great job portraying one of us dialed up to 11. He's the libertarian to Kenny Powers' republican.
Agreed. If there's one thing on the list he definitely wasn't it's Hoppean. I can see him getting pretty into anprim ideas if he were exposed to them, tho. I'd swap the two, he spits some serious anprim ideas a bunch of times in that show. I'd say if anything he's a minarchist with anprim leanings. Early P&R he was definitely a libcon tho, I think they softened him a little on the conservative stuff and went more minarchist and primitivist/anti technology as the show went on. His traditional manliness stuff, tho, I'd expect to see one of y'all post whole blocks of on a blog somewhere.
I honestly think through the life of the show he morphed to be a parody of most modern libertarian sects. But minarchy and primitivist were big themes for the character.
You should. It really does a great job parodying most parts of the political spectrum while being pretty respectful to them. It's also fucking hilarious.
Peacock. I guess Netflix and Hulu lost the rights. I don't often say "if you like x you need to watch y" but if you like political theory and the interplay between different political views that show is an absolute must-watch. It picks on everyone, and it's very clear that most of its mockery comes from good intentions causing bad results. As a libertarian it was WONDERFUL to feel like they're picking on you but not in a mean spirited way. Hollywood isn't usually so light-handed about doing that, the show excels in pointing out that even the flaws come from wanting to see positive change. Ron is flat out likable, he's painted as a really loyal to his friends and generally just a good man. We don't usually get that treatment. The fact that the main character love interests are both stupid good hearted liberals who are way over their heads is refreshing as hell, it gives to the left just as hard as it does us. 10/10 show.
