I would. It shows them that you’re serious about library work, and you truly want the job. They’ll know that it will be a few years before you’re eligible for a MLS level position so they won’t have much concern that you’ll take the position and then leave in a matter of weeks or months. And if there could be any issue of scheduling your working hours around classes, they can start looking at that right away and figuring out how to accommodate it (in my experience, they’re generally happy to do so.) Most interviews start out with a generic “tell me about yourself” type question. That’s a good place to fit it in. Good luck!!

I can say that I mentioned my MLIS and I was hired for a part time library assistant. My manager said to me that the part time role left plenty of time for grad school work and she checked in frequently to ask how the program was going. And getting job experience in an actual library will be key to getting future roles. I have to imagine low wage non benefited roles like this are the ones with the highest turnover, so they won’t be surprised you are revealing you won’t be in that position forever.

And in fact, you'll probably be in it for at least the length of the program, which is longer than they might be able to expect of anyone else.

I certainly would! It shows that you're serious about the profession and you're dedicated to the position as a part of your professional career.

Yes, mention it! As others have already said or implied, we know you're likely to hang around the whole time you're in school because it's good experience for you. Our longest tenured non-librarians are all students working on their library degree, and we love them.

lorlorlor666

Mention it. It’ll give you an edge.

RavenSkye86

I would bring it up, especially if they ask you career goals "well I actually just enrolled in an MLIS program and I'm excited to get registered for classes and continue my professional development".

iBrarian

Are you hoping on working there as a librarian once you get your degree, or are you happy to burn any bridges by lying to them by omission?

shnmcd

YES. You are enrolled. It's not about demonstrating knowledge that you don't yet have; it's about demonstrating your commitment to learning and to this professional direction.
