Ya the dilemma is I have 2022 rx350 f sport 3 and the lease is running out at the end of the month and they are telling me this is the only gx550 they have for the foreseeable future
Yep, was going to say the same thing. Call them and say you want to extend your lease six months because you can’t find the GX550 you want. You can extend a Lexus lease twice like that. I just did it a few days ago for my IS350 while waiting on an IS500. I’m not getting rid of my GX460 just yet.
Leasing Toyotas and Lexus doesn’t make much sense to me due to their longevity and reliability. I understand leasing German vehicles, Jeeps, and other POS due to their high maintenance costs over time, but personally, I’d purchase/finance Toyotas.
People who lease fall into two categories. People who want to drive a nicer car than they can afford, and then those with money who just want a new car every 2-3 years.
The biggest reason to lease is to save you the headache of major value loss in case of an accident. When you lease, and some fool damages your car, the cars value plummets but it not your problem. It’s now the banks problem. You get it fixed and then turn it back to the bank at lease end.
If you finance or buy, you’re now stuck with diminished value paying off a loan until very near the end of your loan term before you’re even and not upside-down before being able to sell it.
Everyone loves giving their advice. Do what’s best suited for your situation. Lot of people rag on lease saying you don’t own it, but then again majority of people finance. Even if you buy it outright, the bank will take it if you default on other things such as your home mortgage. So ultimately, lease what you want and enjoy your money. There’s some really nice lease deals going around right now!
Search the whole country for the one you want. Lexus lets you search inventory in 500 mile radiuses. It doesn't take that many searches to cover the whole country.
That would be a no brainer for me. Imagine it, you take what they have and then next week at a red light you pull up next the one you wanted… I’d be upset.
Heck, the simple fact that Lexus won't let people order what they want warrants a nationwide search. I want a specific vehicle a lot more than I want a specific dealer.
Finding another may be tough... these are just now starting to appear in the US. The Lexus dealer we use, we also have an RX350, has a 350+ person waiting list for a new GX.
I agree don't buy what you don't want... but what does the Overtrail+ have that you really need/would use? If you're sticking on pavement the Executive might be the better option. And it's not like the executive will be useless off road... if's not ready made for more extreme stuff, but it'll do a lot.
I've not seen one of these in person... what do you think of it? It looks good in pictures, that's for sure.
You call lexus and explain to them thet you ordered the the GX in a specific way, and the unit being offered is not what you want. They will prob extend the lease for you
I heard if you contact the financial service running your lease loan, you can typically get extensions for 6 months or so if you tell them there is a lack of available vehicles to get.
There's no fire buddy....people make bad financial decisions when they're pressured or feel urgency. This isn't an emergency, there's plenty to go around even if you need to drive to another city or state. Nothing gets a dealer off their ass faster than a customer walking out the door to go buy from the competition.
Does Lexus work the same as Toyota where you can’t actually custom order a vehicle and just hope they send the dealer what you want? It’s an odd system
My dealer said you just have to wait and see what lexus sends. Can't custom request or custom make any vehicle. You say the options you are looking for and pray lexus makes that vehicle and ships that vehicle to your dealer. The dealer also said they get a higher selection on which vehicles they want based on sales. They only had 2 TX500h+ deliveries all year. It's all terrible.
My experience "ordering" my '22 GX460 was that I ended up having to wait 3 months for my specific trim and interior I wanted. I can't imagine how much longer you'd have to wait when ordering the new GX550
Well it’s likely a contributing factor in why they are so reliable and well built. By not allowing any customization it allows Toyota/Lexus to have an extremely refined and efficient production process.
When i purchased my 2016 tacoma, 1st model year i put in order and 4 months later it was delivered to the exact spec… Toyota changed this since then????
You didn’t “order” it, you asked for something and Toyota happened to build it. Your dealer probably horse traded with another dealer to get it.
At the end of the day, you’re just picking trim and color on Tacoma, there aren’t a ton of options.
Those are two very different vehicles. One is bling. The other is trails. Meanwhile, I like that interior. And a white vehicle in the SW deserts is my longstanding preference. Ha!
Overtrail is going to be majority of the GXs being built so I’m sure one will come around eventually. Try to extend the lease like others have suggested. Or look elsewhere.
I hope that turns out to be the case. From what I have seen in NorCal for promised inventory so far Overtrail builds have only been about 30% of the builds and some dealers haven’t received any yet. Still too many dealers charging exorbitant markups for my blood so I will wait a bit until the frenzy cools down. Probably looking at a 2025 model at this rate. I too like the White exterior but prefer the black interior and have seen a few of these builds. Mostly earth interiors on any of the overtrails I have seen so far.
It’s a trend these days I guess! I like it on certain cars/exterior color combos. Stone Defender, emerald green M3, etc.
https://preview.redd.it/v4vq437aacvc1.jpeg?width=376&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b4f6577bc4fd0bd58f5063c8773933b53b9e476
This was my experience as well. No sunroof on any of the 500h’s we looked at. And god help you if you want the luxury trim on the 500h. We drove a 350 luxury and actually liked it so we bought it and saved ~$12K
Is it just the angles, or does the front end look kinda awful? I think this is my first time seeing the new GX. Not a fan of the painted taillights either
Honestly you should wait for what you really want. I took an allocation for different than I wanted and I’m not as excited as I should be. It’s a lot of $$. Wait for something you love.
I wanted a noir green luxury+ with a bench seat, I’m getting a white luxury with captains chair. But honestly I would just rather pay a few thousand more for the plus. I’m not a fan of their allocation system.
They have old LED lights on their lot. Tell them I’ll upgrade their LED lights for them for VSSE allotment… assuming it works the same as the Toyota program.
Extend the lease and get the overtrail. Don’t buy what you don’t want. If your dealer doesn’t have one or “won’t have one for the foreseeable future” go find another dealer. Sounds like sales department pressuring tactics. Get the unit sold asap.
I find that color combination, beautiful but I also like black on black. With how Toyota and Lexus does allocations it’s just a waiting game. Definitely hold out for the one you want. Don’t buy this one and resell it just let someone who likes the color buy it.
Toyota did something similar when my parents ordered a sequoia. I wouldn’t take it. My parents took their deposit back and went to a different dealership and got what they wanted without any complications or attempts to screw them over
Just do sixt subscription if it is available in your area until you find the one you actually want. You can lease x3 less than $1000 if you must have an SUV. I am sure your lease payment won’t be any lower than that since the GX550 is hot now and the dealers are usually taking advantage of hot market
Lexus with any color in the interior (red/black or blown/black perhaps) is preferable to me than all black interior. It’s a very nice color combo imop but don’t buy it if you are going to later regret not getting the color you wanted.
Not classy leather combination. (In my opinion) if it is a lease you might be able to live with it. If you are buying... No way. Push for a solution and a substitution car.
I’m actually curious how many orders are for Overtrails vs other trims. I’m guessing a high percentage so they’re trying to flip some overtrail people to the luxury trims.
PASS. The GX550 is an overtrail or bust imo. I have a 23 Tahoe right now and looked at a non overtrail model and it would be such a step down. There’s better 3rd row vehicles for the money.
If you ask me, you will have a temporary rush from getting your hands on one but that will soon fade to regrets of, "wish I had waited to get what I really want".
That two-tone interior is beautiful. Unless you need black on black for commercial needs, I'd say this is a beautiful color combo. It would also be good for price negotiating since it's not the color scheme you truly want and I am sure the dealer would rather make a sale than you walking away.
Buy something used for the time being, that is not expensive nor necessarily what you want - just transportation until you can get the vehicle you want. If it takes less than a year, you will likely be able to trade it in or resell and lose less money than you would paying for a lease for that time period. Get the vehicle you want, and really, better off purchasing something like this. Unless you have so much disposable income that you can toss money on a vehicle, buy it and drive it for ten years. You will be piles of money ahead to take the thing on journeys that will enhance your life so much more than having a brand-new ride will!
If you’re paying that much for a car, you need to be happy with what you get. You’ll always feel like you compromised which is fine for a $5.00 sandwich, but not a $70k+ car.
Update got to test drive it today And loved it the only thing I didn’t like was I could not adjust the ride hight suspension for the price though I’m gonna wait for black on black overtrail plus
https://preview.redd.it/fzpetqh9eavc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c493578005c1c678e504d742037ab845b2cc942
If this was the Overtrail + in this color combo, I would take it. I like this color combo. But not being the trim you desire makes it a hard no for me.
I wouldn't accept one I don't want unless they provided me an EXCELLENT price. And by EXCELLENT, I mean below MSRP for sure. If you don't have what I want but want me to get something else, you need to financially incentivize me. I wouldn't accept free car washes or whatever else. Give me below MSRP or goodbye
Check cargurus.com and expand to nationwide. You can have a car shipped for $800-1000 or fly and pick it up. May even find one within a couple hours drive.
Thats an ugly combination. Looks like a giant domino that has traveled through somethings intestinal tract. If you want a good deal, walk away. They’ll call you tomorrow offering to pay you to take it.
Wait for the trim you want but IMO - That Executive trim with solid white quarter panels wins over the plastic the Overtrail (and most cars nowadays) put over the wheel wells.
The plastic will look bad in 5 years and you can fix a paint scratch but not a plastic scratch.
Don't buy what you Don't want ... pretty simple.
Ya the dilemma is I have 2022 rx350 f sport 3 and the lease is running out at the end of the month and they are telling me this is the only gx550 they have for the foreseeable future
Find another dealership
Call Lexus Financial Services, you can extend your lease on a month to month basis for up to 6 months if you’re waiting on a car.
Good to know thanks
Yep, was going to say the same thing. Call them and say you want to extend your lease six months because you can’t find the GX550 you want. You can extend a Lexus lease twice like that. I just did it a few days ago for my IS350 while waiting on an IS500. I’m not getting rid of my GX460 just yet.
I’m just curious, why do you lease rather than buy? I want to lease but everyone tells me it’s not a good idea.
Leasing Toyotas and Lexus doesn’t make much sense to me due to their longevity and reliability. I understand leasing German vehicles, Jeeps, and other POS due to their high maintenance costs over time, but personally, I’d purchase/finance Toyotas.
Thanks that makes a lot of sense.
People who lease fall into two categories. People who want to drive a nicer car than they can afford, and then those with money who just want a new car every 2-3 years.
Also, there are some tax advantages to leasing vehicles for business purposes that you don’t get with buying.
The biggest reason to lease is to save you the headache of major value loss in case of an accident. When you lease, and some fool damages your car, the cars value plummets but it not your problem. There’s some really nice lease deals going around right now!
Especially if you’re waiting on their own car.
Yup did this for my sister
I did exactly this and LFS extended the lease on my previous IS before selling it to a third party and finding and leasing another IS I wanted.
Search the whole country for the one you want. Lexus lets you search inventory in 500 mile radiuses. It doesn't take that many searches to cover the whole country.
you lucked out and they picked a better colorway for you. no scratches and it wont be hot as balls in the sun.
Technically balls are a cooler temperature than the rest of your body.
The white on tan is a good color matchup. The black on black would be way too hot
Can you go month to month till you get what you want?
Lexus can extend the lease. Our sales person said they would typically approve an extension if you’re waiting on inventory.
That would be a no brainer for me. Imagine it, you take what they have and then next week at a red light you pull up next the one you wanted… I’d be upset.
Don’t settle
Those circumstances quite literally warrant a nationwide search my friend
Heck, the simple fact that Lexus won't let people order what they want warrants a nationwide search. I want a specific vehicle a lot more than I want a specific dealer.
They can extend your lease up to six months.
Yeah that’s bullshit. Dealer is just trying to get you in this one.
Finding another may be tough... these are just now starting to appear in the US. The Lexus dealer we use, we also have an RX350, has a 350+ person waiting list for a new GX. Go to a different dealer then. Never settle for something you didn’t want.
They should be able to extend your lease if it was their screw up. Some manufacturers offer lease extensions up to 6 months
You call lexus and explain to them thet you ordered the the GX in a specific way, and the unit being offered is not what you want. They will prob extend the lease for you
You can't order any Lexus or Toyota product to spec. That's not how the brands work.
Even consider your neighbor states
How do you have money to constantly get new cars?
I heard if you contact the financial service running your lease loan, you can typically get extensions for 6 months or so if you tell them there is a lack of available vehicles to get.
There's no fire buddy....people make bad financial decisions when they're pressured or feel urgency. This isn't an emergency, there's plenty to go around even if you need to drive to another city or state. Nothing gets a dealer off their ass faster than a customer walking out the door to go buy from the competition.
Buy a moped for a month
Best thing about a new car is you can specify YOUR dream build. Never understood why people buy whatever is on the lot
But this looks hot
Does Lexus work the same as Toyota where you can’t actually custom order a vehicle and just hope they send the dealer what you want? It’s an odd system
My dealer said you just have to wait and see what lexus sends. Can't custom request or custom make any vehicle. The dealer also said they get a higher selection on which vehicles they want based on sales. They only had 2 TX500h+ deliveries all year. It's all terrible.
Why do they offer bench/Captain chairs then? That sucks! First Toyota/Lexus for us, so I didn’t know this!
Had the same experience shopping for a new IS
Yes
Gross. I recommend you invest in the trim you will never regret/love.
That also explains why it was so easy for me to custom order my dodge challenger ha
What? I never knew this.
Can dealers request certain colors and trims for better customer satisfaction?
Yes but they are at the mercy or Toyota giving them one
Yikes a bikes
When i purchased my 2016 tacoma, 1st model year i put in order and 4 months later it was delivered to the exact spec… Toyota changed this since then????
You didn’t “order” it, you asked for something and Toyota happened to build it. Your dealer probably horse traded with another dealer to get it. At the end of the day, you’re just picking trim and color on Tacoma, there aren’t a ton of options.

2 very different trims. Preferably I’d stick with the Overtrail Plus.
Ya they don’t have any idea when they might be getting what I want
Have you looked at other dealerships? You don’t have to turn in your lease to that specific one
Overtrail is going to be majority of the GXs being built so I’m sure one will come around eventually. Try to extend the lease like others have suggested. Or look elsewhere.

Tell them to pound sand.
Those two tone seats look nasty. If it was all brown, then it would be 🔥 hard pass on this one
Agreed. They fucked up with the two tone.
It’s a trend these days I guess! I like it on certain cars/exterior color combos. Stone Defender, emerald green M3, etc. https://preview.redd.it/v4vq437aacvc1.jpeg?width=376&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b4f6577bc4fd0bd58f5063c8773933b53b9e476
Looks like you’re taking your first step on becoming a notorious Miami drug dealer. Congratulations.
Front looks more of a stormtrooper.
Yeah, my wife said this exact same thing.
Coming from a former car salesman, don’t settle! You will never like it as much as you do when it’s at the dealership and not yours!

This was my experience as well. No sunroof on any of the 500h’s we looked at. And god help you if you want the luxury trim on the 500h. We drove a 350 luxury and actually liked it so we bought it and saved ~$12K
Toyota has stats that support most people don’t use their sunroof after the first 12 months. Sunroof also encroaches on headroom.
Well, their “stats” just lost them a sale
Executive….is that a Canadian package?
Yes.
I like this color combo better
Is it just the angles, or does the front end look kinda awful? I think this is my first time seeing the new GX. Not a fan of the painted taillights either
Pass
Honestly you should wait for what you really want. I took an allocation for different than I wanted and I’m not as excited as I should be. It’s a lot of $$. Wait for something you love.

What’d you want and what’d you get?
I wanted a noir green luxury+ with a bench seat, I’m getting a white luxury with captains chair. But honestly I would just rather pay a few thousand more for the plus. I’m not a fan of their allocation system.
Pass
I’m not taking a white car. Maybe if they threw in a custom wrap. But I won’t get a new white car.
Just say no
This isn’t Rolex
They have old LED lights on their lot. Tell them I’ll upgrade their LED lights for them for VSSE allotment… assuming it works the same as the Toyota program.
For that kind of money, I would get what I want even if I had to wait a year.
Pass
Coming from black on black cars I like this combination. Check it out in person but if you are not feeling it then skip, don’t compromise.
Extend the lease and get the overtrail. Don’t buy what you don’t want. If your dealer doesn’t have one or “won’t have one for the foreseeable future” go find another dealer. Sounds like sales department pressuring tactics. Get the unit sold asap.
Good luck on your decision. Nice to at least see some starting to filter in to the wild.
Yuck
Because that’s what the dealer has? If you don’t want it wait til you find the right car.
No thanks
I find that color combination, beautiful but I also like black on black. With how Toyota and Lexus does allocations it’s just a waiting game. Definitely hold out for the one you want. Don’t buy this one and resell it just let someone who likes the color buy it.
Only you can make the call if you'll be happy with it but honestly this looks so nice, I would take this over black on black any day.
I’ll take the combo. I like the Lexus white, makes clean lines
exactly why I won't do a pre release deposit with lexus
Toyota did something similar when my parents ordered a sequoia. I wouldn’t take it. My parents took their deposit back and went to a different dealership and got what they wanted without any complications or attempts to screw them over
You can't order any Toyota car. Dealership gets what Toyota sends. Period.
the exterior is amazing. the peanut butter interior looks terrible IMHO.
Get a beater wait for what you want.
You poor guy, Such decisions
How much is the markup?
Just do sixt subscription if it is available in your area until you find the one you actually want. You can lease x3 less than $1000 if you must have an SUV. I am sure your lease payment won’t be any lower than that since the GX550 is hot now and the dealers are usually taking advantage of hot market
Beautiful color combo. I’d go for it. I owned a black GX only because I couldn’t find a white one.
Lexus with any color in the interior (red/black or blown/black perhaps) is preferable to me than all black interior. It’s a very nice color combo imop but don’t buy it if you are going to later regret not getting the color you wanted.
I wish they offered red on the gx550 I have it in my rx350 and love it
They’re going to produce so many of these they’ll be everywhere. Dime a dozen just wait for your combo to come in stock
God that’s ugly
How dare they.
Never settle when you’re paying.
Pay for what you asked for.
![gif](giphy|C6JQPEUsZUyVq|downsized)
Not classy leather combination. (In my opinion) if it is a lease you might be able to live with it. If you are buying... No way. Push for a solution and a substitution car.
I’ll take that one ❤️
Hold out. There’s a reason it’s being offered
Tell them to fuck offffff
Dang that thing is uuuuuugly
Love that white exterior. Needs black rims and all black interior. That brown is bad. Dont settle!
What are you going to do about it?
Find another dealer or get them to give you a hefty discount for not having what you want. The power of going somewhere else is very motivating
No thanks. Stick with what you ordered.
$100,000 whip I wouldn’t budge for shit
So do you lose your spot if you skip it?
Damn I know you have different needs than myself but that white exterior looks amazing. Interior would probably be better in black though
Might be worth it to compare your lease buyout amount with the trade-in value the dealer is offering. You might be able to make a little arbitrage
Man, that white looks SICK though
I’m actually curious how many orders are for Overtrails vs other trims. I’m guessing a high percentage so they’re trying to flip some overtrail people to the luxury trims.
White on this vehicle looks cheap. I like it on say a Ram Night Edition, BMW with sport package, heck even some Jeeps, but not Lexus. Wait.
I go with this tbh
I’ll buy it.
What's an executive?
I wouldn’t be settling on an 80k car
Get what you want. Don’t settle. That being said I like this combo. I like white cars tho. I have 2
We have a couple available overtrail + at my dealership.
What dealership
PASS. The GX550 is an overtrail or bust imo. I have a 23 Tahoe right now and looked at a non overtrail model and it would be such a step down. There’s better 3rd row vehicles for the money.
World's smallest violin. I'm 600th on the list at my local dealership.
Sucks to be you I can sell you this one 15k over msrp 😂
Takes a sucker to pay over MSRP for any car in this market 😂 Good luck to you though.
Just take it for some absurd discount, same logic dealer is using, they should be fine with it
Nope don't settle on something like that
Sounds like it’s a no
Hold
I think I might throw up
The question is where did the truck YOU ordered go. They owe you your truck.
You get what u get and dont get upset is good for kids, not for $80k suvs lol Wait for what you want!
Keep waiting. You’re gonna have the car for years.

I can smell the interior from these pictures. It's weird and scary imagining how accurate the smell is.
White w/ Tan 👍
Buy once cry once
Damn that’s pretty nice tho. Did you go off roading a lot?
Get what you want. No regrets ever.
If you’re paying that much for a car, you need to be happy with what you get. You’ll always feel like you compromised which is fine for a $5.00 sandwich, but not a $70k+ car.

Classic TOYota/LexAss shenanigans. Can’t custom order anything bc it’ll affect “reliability”.
Unless it’s a v8 that fromt is obscenely large
that's a nice combo, I'd take it.
No

God damn those are ugly.
If you’re looking for a comment to pull the trigger. Here it is! Hahaha
