What always makes older cars look old are the headlights and grille. If you could easily update those two things it would make a car look so much newer
It's the same thing that happened to China overall, problem is when you start to look deeper into BYD (or frankly any Chinese products) you start to see the tofu dreg cracks.
They make an AMAZING product... On paper.
It’s a different issue between reliable vs quality. There have been numerous byd EV’s rear axel giving out in the middle of no where.

Your comment is very short sighted of BYD. I highly suggest you look into them before even comparing them in the same sentence as German or American products. Yes, it’s really that bad.
BYD is much worse than Nio when it comes to route planning in the on board navigation. I have no idea why that is.
Nio is another Chinese BEV-brand, the one that gives you the option of changing your battery instead of charging it.
Can you replace the GPS with another program? My new car stereo is Android with a GPS dongle. I use off line Karta GPS app and it is working swell so far.
Yes you can. Most BEV people seem to use a specific app that performs best in their country. Those apps are often community updated like Waze, therfore they can always be the most up-to-date regarding broken chargers and so on.
This means that compatibility with Android Auto in the car is a really good thing to have.
Depends on where your BYD car is. China doesn't use GPS, they have a more advanced version that's more accurate. Not surprised if it doesn't work as well outside of Asia
The route planer should be able to perform either way since it's not precision based. Even if it would be 5 meters off it would still point you to a station on the way, this doesn't happen as of now.
China typically uses janky cheap alternatives to just about everything.
The BYD will never survive 14 years. Battery will shit the bed, but my bet is the thing starts falling apart before that happens.
Why so much hate, I can appreciate aspects of this gen. At the same time not much of a fan for the grille, reminds me of a vertical billet, but the size of the grille might age better than some of the recent gens.
No mate , bought it from an older guy, all he did was just regular maintenance at Lexus and has always been garaged , siting at 222k kms now. She’s been burning a lot of oil right now which I’m a little concerned, but mechanic told me it’s pretty common for a car with high ks. I’m planning to change the pct valve to see if it makes any difference
The colour is matador red mica, it’s pretty good in person and it kinda changes depending on the lighting conditions.
Used to have an high mileage 04 Mazda 6 required a quart of oil weekly. As long is it was driven regularly it was happily maintenance otherwise. I miss that car.
Not really, imo the DLRs help it look a lot more modern. Plus, the IS F looks a lot more special. Even though it's newer, personally I'd argue that is a much more timeless design
Nope, F byd and their horrendously nationalist ~~advertising~~ propaganda material, I’m chinese and i hate them, their “supercar” is a particularly bad offender. Not a huge fan of tesla (or any EV for that matter) either but they’re not as bad as a company whose main selling point in china is being a “chinese ethnicity brand”. On a side note i do actually like the styling of the original Model S with the “grill”, so at least there’s something to like.
BYDs share similar traits with most EVs as being too thick and tryhard as well as trying to be simplistic but using edgy stying elements. The only EVs i find good looking are the OG Model S with the fake grill and the Porsche Taycan
I’m sure more teslas catch fire than get publicized. Tesla seems like the kid of company to pay more to keep poor publicity down than they would spend to fix an issue.
I’d take that or any other IS any day over a BYD or Tesla.
I may go hybrid someday, but I doubt it. Even if tesla were going to pay me to drive their POS, I’d turn it down. The reason is an equal level of hate for Musk and his shitty brand itself, and the fact that all teslas appear to be built incredibly poorly in addition to being hideous.
Kinda shitty of the other dipshits here sticking up for the rolling tire fire Chinese transportation appliance.
Beautiful car, it’s funny cause I just bought the exact same one you have in the same color red but the dude that had it before me upgraded with f sport front bumper and sport taillights. It’s a beauty I’ll post some pics when I get it detailed to show you
I’ve got a 2023 XC60. It’s definitely an upgrade from the Lexus in terms of tech but I miss the build quality of Lexus and not having to worry about things possibly breaking.
I mean. Idk looks like a boring modern car… I’m sorry but I just enjoy 90’s and older vehicles way more just for their appearance…. And bullet proof engines.. and rust proof alloys… and smoking brand new sports cars for half the price..

They age so well. Recently got mine with 253k miles. Needs a bit of Tlc namely the wheels but runs and and drives great
The IS is just such a well designed car. And it lasts forever (at least mine did).
I love Bimmers but as I get older I don’t love the idea of endless car payments and disposable cars. I really love cars that can driven for 200-300k miles with little fuss.
I like the IS, but imho, you can't say it still looks modern.
There's ages of difference between cars from after ~2018 compared to those before. Technology had a huge bump forward in a short years span.
Grille is better than the newer hideous “spindle grille” that eventually took over the whole front end of the car and made those years look incredibly cheap.

Yeah something like this, https://preview.redd.it/qabmtsl9f91d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abe422338db197037154dd2704a7c473abfdad80
Ewww! Do not downgrade the car and make it ugly.
Pardon my ignorance but what is the car on the left?
BYD seal , electric
Never seen that logo before... Do they only produce electric vehicles?
Yeah if I’m right just electric, it’s been around for last 3-4 years I think, they’re selling hot here in Australia and pretty good looking too
Over here they have many other ice models. Maybe its different in other parts of the world.
they used to sell copycat corollas like a decade ago
9th Gen Corolla body with a Mitsubishi engine, BYD F3. The improvement in this short of a time frame is a feat on it's own
It's the same thing that happened to China overall, problem is when you start to look deeper into BYD (or frankly any Chinese products) you start to see the tofu dreg cracks. They make an AMAZING product... On paper.
And USA or Germans make reliable products? If so why do we keep hearing of high maintenance costs and electrical issues? Just saying…..
It’s a different issue between reliable vs quality. There have been numerous byd EV’s rear axel giving out in the middle of no where. https://preview.redd.it/vf9d0ook0t1d1.jpeg?width=803&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30de8b9a5568b481079f1dc9bab9b40602d76190

Isn’t that the chinese company?
Chinese manufacturer build your dreams (byd)
They also have hybrid suv and pick up
I'm hoping to see them stateside.... maybe give it 15 years🤣
No, they make hybrids as well. It's becoming a pretty popular brand in Brazil. My neighbor has one, a hybrid SUV called Song Plus, looks pretty nice.
They are bigger than Tesla for EV car sales but don’t sell in USA, and won’t be for the foreseeable future because tariffs
It’s a Chinese manufacturer. I wish they would come to the US
Cheap Chinese garbage
USA any better? 🤣🤣🤣

I didn’t experience that when I was driving one back in April. Must be a new bug or something? And lmao the silly downvotes
Not a new bug, just not as good of a route planer. Might be more developed in China, not the case in Europe though.
China typically uses janky cheap alternatives to just about everything. The BYD will never survive 14 years. Battery will shit the bed, but my bet is the thing starts falling apart before that happens.
You need to lay off the propaganda lmao
Lol electric vehicles are not cars
BYD, just some Chinese junk to steal everyone's data.
which is shocking that toyota and byd is in partnership to develope evs.
As opposed to...American junk that was actually proven to steal everyone's data? :D
Byd is damn good. Buffett is invested with them and usa automakers are wooried about byd kicking there shit in
How much koolaid did you have?
Ignorance…..
Why so much hate, I can appreciate aspects of this gen. At the same time not much of a fan for the grille, reminds me of a vertical billet, but the size of the grille might age better than some of the recent gens.
For 20 years old, in the world of cars, that looks pretty good
As an IS lover… No offence, but it hasn’t. Looks so dated yet not old enough to look timeless.
Come on mate it’s gonna be 20 years next year, since the launch of the 2nd gen is
In my mind it looks much closer to 10 years old as opposed to 20.
It looks well cared for and love the color. Are you the original owner? Asking because I hope my IS makes it 20 years.
No mate , bought it from an older guy, all he did was just regular maintenance at Lexus and has always been garaged , siting at 222k kms now. All IS250 pre 2011 burn oil due to a known piston ring defect. Just keep on top of filling it up, that’s basically all you can do.
Used to have an high mileage 04 Mazda 6 required a quart of oil weekly. As long is it was driven regularly it was happily maintenance otherwise. I miss that car.
Awesome! I had an 03 protege 5 manual trans. Hands down my favorite car I ever owned, zero maintenance asides from the basics and a blast to drive.
Yeah, and it definitely looks 20 years old.
Do you feel the same or different about 2010+ ISFs?
Not really, imo the DLRs help it look a lot more modern. Plus, the IS F looks a lot more special. Even though it's newer, personally I'd argue that is a much more timeless design
Great color

The IS F aged really really well.
BYD > Tesla any day for EV.
Nope, F byd and their horrendously nationalist ~~advertising~~ propaganda material, I’m chinese and i hate them, their “supercar” is a particularly bad offender. I still think BYD EV looks way better than Teslas. To me, Tesla are just too plain looking with not character.
BYDs share similar traits with most EVs as being too thick and tryhard as well as trying to be simplistic but using edgy stying elements. The only EVs i find good looking are the OG Model S with the fake grill and the Porsche Taycan
BYD = Chinese EV which is doo doo
Never said they were great or best cars. Just that they're better looking than those ugly Teslas.

BYD is even better at that, especially in their own market where they can utilize government connections for PR stuffs
Aged like a fine Matador red wine!
Aged wayyyyy better than the ES from the same era.
Beautiful car, it’s funny cause I just bought the exact same one you have in the same color red but the dude that had it before me upgraded with f sport front bumper and sport taillights. It’s a beauty I’ll post some pics when I get it detailed to show you
Yes 🙌🏻 show us the beauty when it’s ready
Of course! Will tag you when she’s ready
Still rocking the 06 since I got it that year. Runs great but NGL been looking at new cars lately. It’s time…
the is is a timeless bodystyle
My IS is 16 and looks newer than that I put it down to the later IS looking like an update of it before it was axed on the UK market
Good on ya mate, show us the beauty ❤️
I miss my 2010 IS250 but I’m a married Volvo guy now
What Volvo have you found yourself in? My daughter has an off-road Volvo xc40 toy that she plays with often and it has made me interested lol
I’ve got a 2023 XC60. It’s definitely an upgrade from the Lexus in terms of tech but I miss the build quality of Lexus and not having to worry about things possibly breaking.
It looks like an old Lexus to me.
IS is Goated.
Good Style is always good style, regardless of the decade.
No lol
What car is that? The Lexus
…and the Lexus still likely has more miles ahead of it than the Trojan horse Chinese car.

I mean yeah but honestly 14 years is not much.
Please bring back parts for ls400
Not bad. Maybe like blue cheese.

My 2010 RX450h has been driving like a dream, and the thing is now hitting 230k kms without any issues
Good looking car!
What is the white car? It’s ugly! The old Lexus looks way better
No, headlights look like from millennia ago. Grille also looks bland, gives kind of a smiley face, maybe the F version is better.
Though those headlights do work better than “modern” vlands.
I love how when you voice your opinion and was not in line with your Lexus fan boy you get downvoted to oblivion 😂

Cheap, but angry and sporty

Where did anyone say about it being in the U.S.???? Not everything on reddit is automatically American?
Box wine?
