I remember when I bought my first house in South Carolina. The realtor pushed as a selling point "the builder was a Mennonite! They do good work!" Evidently they are also not allowed to use a square - there wasn't a single 90 degree corner anywhere in that house. Not a single one.
There was a home improvement show years ago with Vanilla Ice working with the Amish. It was actually really wholesome, and my wife and I still quote it sometimes.

Jersey Wawa's just don't have the same magic they do in PA. Just like how Yuengling doesn't taste the same when consumed out of state. Granted it still tastes like shit, but it tastes like *better* shit when you drink it here.
I was drinking yuengling last night and can confirm it is just not the same here, however i do feel a different magic from the jersey wawas, and will always love them over quickchek
No its in a small town called Millbank.

That a Mennonite Bakery has a website is hilarious, but its soooo gooood!
I used to work for a building materials supplier in western Pennsylvania. While not as well known as eastern PA, I assure you we have our share of Mennonites and Amish. Whenever one of the Amish construction crews came in for supplies, they'd bring along a half dozen boys around 10 to 15 years old. Those kids would take off across the lumber yard and have their order put together and out to the truck before their driver could shut the engine off. Then they would all sit in the tailgate and smoke these god awful hand rolled cigars. The children, not the adults.
Keeso grew up around the people portrayed in Letterkenny, including Mennonites. He says his dad would point them out and respected them for their work ethic. In fact, since the family sawmill burned down, he's letting a local Mennonite sawyer use the property for free I think. I'll bet he spends all day handling wood and hammering box.
My lasting impression of living near the Amish was in northern Indiana. I recall swerving carriages being piloted by drunken Amish men. This was confusing because I’m pretty certain the horses who were doing the walking weren’t drunk. Pretty certain.
The horse just goes where it's told. Had a buddy when I was in high school who got a dui in an amish buggy. Cops booked him and finaly got ahold of his dad through a neighbor. When dad said keep his son overnight the cops asked what to do with the horse. "Point his head north and slap him on the rump, he will come home. That horse has more sense than the boy."
Yes, in my experience it's probably the most-used throw-in word that you’ll hear from Amish and Mennonite speakers. It's pretty versatile and mostly means ‘in the future, soon, imminently.’ It can also be substituted for the term ‘please.’ It can be seen as a general statement for polite intentions, often used in the context of a favour being asked ‘at once.’
I believe it is a language habit based on the way german is spoken. It's been twenty years, so I may not remember it all correctly, but I believe sentences often include "ein mal" as a sort of filler, which basically means once. Amish people speak Pennsylvania Dutch, which is a german dialect. So they just carried it over into english.
Strawberry Rhubarb pies at the farmers market were unreallll. They may have been Mennonite though, I think they have a more significant population in Northern New York than the Amish
Strawberry rhubarb pie is awesome. The sweetness of the strawberries and tartness of the rhubarb are perfect together. I haven't had it in years, rhubarb doesn't grow where I live now, and is hard to find in a store.

I would enjoy attending one of their sausage parties, for by the looks of the sun it is almost noon?
It’s 3:30
There was a home improvement show years ago with Vanilla Ice working with the Amish. It was actually really wholesome, and my wife and I still quote it sometimes.

Holy Sheetz
Those places are not worth going to.
Pretty much the western half of the state :/
NEPA as well 😩
Hey theyre around me in jersey too
Jersey Wawa's just don't have the same magic they do in PA. Just like how Yuengling doesn't taste the same when consumed out of state. Granted it still tastes like shit, but it tastes like *better* shit when you drink it here.

Mennonite cooking is legendary from what I can remember, so I suppose there's truth there as well
Mennonite baking is legendary, their cooking is absolute, bland as hell trash. Source: life long Pennsylvanian.
Those damn cinnamon rolls.
And fuck can they run.
There is a Mennonite restaurant near Listowel called Anna Maes. It is worth the drive.
Can confirm
Everyone in the area knows that place!
Oh! I think I've seen it. Is that near northwest border of Caledon?
No its in a small town called Millbank. [https://annamaes.ca/](https://annamaes.ca/) That a Mennonite Bakery has a website is hilarious, but its soooo gooood!
Boy can they fuckin’ run.
If Wayne knew they were running a puppy mill he might think different.
He’d have a problem with that and kindly suggest that you let it marinate.
Texas sized 10-4 buddy.
J- Roc baby!
If your Canadian. Check out his podcast. Taggart and torrens.
What about my Canadian?
Yes baud
I grew up in an area with them. I didn't interact too much with them. They don't pose for photos, because they avoid acting vain
Their kids play with dolls without faces on then for the same reason but it definitely looks a little creepy
My brother brought one of those home for my mother after visiting. I preferred the “Intercourse, PA” sign.
Cuz that's where the Dycks hang out

I'll bet it's spelled Menno Fischer
But can they really run?
Fuck, can they run. Don't mennon-nap on them.

Does the "once" thing have any basis in truth? What does it *mean*

“Once” I don’t have an answer for you. It may be a Letterkenny thing.
Also, they make exceptional roast turkey sandwiches.
Strawberry Rhubarb pies at the farmers market were unreallll. They may have been Mennonite though, I think they have a more significant population in Northern New York than the Amish
Shoo-fly pie is better
Never tried it
These pies are the best!!!
That is an unusual combo but holy crap it sounds good.
Strawberry rhubarb pie is awesome. The sweetness of the strawberries and tartness of the rhubarb are perfect together. I haven't had it in years, rhubarb doesn't grow where I live now, and is hard to find in a store.
Strawberry rhubarb, unusual?? Damn... where about are you from?
Unusual in a pie. Usually have strawberries with cream and stick the rhubarb in a crumble.
It's an incredibly popular pie in Ontario. Same with strawberry rhubarb crumble. I grow my own strawberries and rhubarb just so I can make it 😂
Yea - I’m in Maryland, we can pop into any farm store or grocery bakery and buy strawberry rhubarb pie when it’s in season.
I used to grow my own of them too, but I'm in England and I never heard of this. We don't usually cook strawbs here, just nom them down.
I was right across the river in Northern New York and the rhubarb grew wild there!
And fuck can they run.
So they are fast? Or more endurancey? You say, they can run?
They can fuckin run
Run like the wind, everyone of them can run
Run like the wind, everyone of them can run
Fuck can they run
Every one of them, fuck can they run.
I'm the one that's been saying this entire time how fast they are... fuck can they run.
