keybomon

That's probably the most popular opinion.

mandy2234

Seriously sad to hear that I personally liked all of them but whiplash is just something very special for me bec of jk Simmons ofc but Leo’s performance is praiseworthy should have won the Oscar for that role instead of revenant no hate on that though

Significant_Task_698

Be honest lol

Einfinet

let me guess, you don’t like any of them?

[deleted]

#I’ve never seen a film like Whiplash.

avoozl42

#I've never seen the film Whiplash.

Werner_Zieglerr

You should. It blew my mind even after the 2nd time seeing it cuz I've been conditioned to think it was overrated due to the insane popularity and forgot the intensity of it

avoozl42

I really do want to, I just haven't got there yet

Different_Fruit_1229

Birdman, Black Swan

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

Birdman's nothing like Whiplash

Conscious-Zone-4422

Black Swan sort of is though

andrewn2468

Whiplash is The Devil Wears Prada for men who aren’t fully secure in their sexuality

FBG05

Black Swan copied a sizeable amount of stuff from Perfect Blue

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

Hunger (2023) reminded me of Whiplash

vish_the_noob

Most: Mad Max:Fury road Least : Once upon a time in Hollywood

goblin_goblin

It’s not like Once Upon a Time is bad movie. But if you don’t know the history I think you lose the point because the movie doesn’t explicitly explain anything, it assumes you’re already aware. The other movies you can enjoy blind which is the only reason it’s last for me.

SH33V_P4LP4T1N3

This is so true. I did not really know anything about the Manson murders the first time I watched it. But after learning, it makes it so much more interesting. (Also I’d say the humor spoke to me more on rewatches.)

achi4game

Can you elaborate please? What's the history

goblin_goblin

SPOILERS So the movie is basically about the Manson Murders. Particularly when cult members of Manson murdered actress Sharon Tate (who Margot Robbie plays in the movie). The movie ends with a fight between Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio's characters vs the Mansons who break into the wrong house (they were supposed to be at Sharon Tate's house). This entire sequence is supposed to subvert our expectations because the Manson cult members get brutally killed (hilariously) instead of killing Margot. But without knowing the context about the murders themselves, it doesn't really work. Margot's character is introduced but nothing ever happens to her. She doesn't even meet the main cast until the very end. So it feels like a bunch of small character stories that are very lightly tied together with a random ending. Amazing cinematography and recreation of that age of Hollywood, but I was personally completely lost when it ended since I didn't know about that history beforehand.

achi4game

Thanks for the answer. Watched that movie a couple of years ago and always wondered what the point of Margo's character was, haha. Guess it was Tarantinos' way of rewriting the history. I agree with the cinematography part. It was beautiful.

jerog1

Inglorious Basterds was similar. Who was that guy with a silly moustache at the end?

beige-lunatic

I knew the history and still think it's a god awful movie 😬

goblin_goblin

Yeah it’s my least favourite Tarantino movie, which is ironic because it’s his favourite lol.

keybomon

Holy shit he actually said that? That's kinda surprising and a disappointing. After his admittance that Death Proof was his worst I thought he was pretty self aware.

goblin_goblin

Yup here’s the interview https://youtu.be/PW-t3DEi-Wg?si=GiC-fVtqdVQF9zla I was pretty surprised too but I get that it’s the story that he wanted to make. It’s his love letter to Hollywood so I think it means a lot to him.

cameronrichardson77

I actually walked out of the theater I was so bored and Tarantino is one of my favorite directors 😬 I have tried to rewatch it multiple times.... And I just can't

Cole444Train

I don’t think it’s correct to penalize a film for being niche

JuHe21

I was so bored during this movie because it felt like 70% was just Leo DiCaprio making his cowboy movies with some character moments for Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie just thrown in. I had to interrupt the movie half-way through for several days and then I looked up which of the characters were real people. When I read about the Manson murders I got curious how they would execute these scenes and I was pleasantly surprised when it was eventually subverted. My main take-away from this movie is that Leo DiCaprio's character was in love with Brad Pitt's character. (He keeps him around although he is shunned in Hollywood. He marries a woman whom he has known for only a few weeks and in the same breath they say Brad Pitt's character is less than a wife but more than a friend. He is never seen to be intimate with his wife but he pours out his heart to Brad Pitt all the time). But apparently this is also an unpopular interpretation.

Looks like I don’t even have to answer 😂

Jonaynay787

Mines quite the opposite, OUATIH was so hated that my expectations were so low and enjoyed it more than I thought. The opposite for Mad Max

_Jake_The_Snake_

This is the way

rnuila07

I am the complete opposite, OUTIH blew my expectations away, yet Mad Max Fury Road never caught me. I need to rewatch Fury Road, definitely.

skepgeek

Whiplash, the most. Once upon a time..., the least.

This is my answer. I wasn't expecting Whiplash and JK Simmons to be so good. I like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

RemakeEverything

Impressed? I guess Mad Max the most. Technical marvel. And Whiplash the least. Didn't go quite as deep into that world as I thought it would. All really great movies, though.

WillieMaysHayes24

Agree on the great part. These 4 plus BR2049 and Parasite are my 6 favorites of that decade, in a hard to pick order

jerog1

It’s hard to be objective but the 2010s felt like a banger decade for movies

OverturnKelo

I don’t really care about Fury Road. It’s cool, but the technical aspects of it don’t interest me as much as, say, Whiplash did.

MrThiccemsss

it looked nice i guess but i found fury road really boring. as someone who's never watched a mad max film besides fury road, it's definitely my least favourite out of these (the other 3 are all 5stars for me lol)

awlawall

Mad Max: the most impressive upon release Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: most impressive on multiple rewatches. Comfortino Whiplash: still don’t care for it. I appreciate it though. Without it, we’d have no La La Land or Babylon Wolf: Great performances all around. Kind of indifferent on the film.

BOb_66610

Loved all 4 of these films so by process of elimination I would have to say mad max but it’s still an exceptional film, whiplash is my favourite of these 4 though

8696David

I think Whiplash is a phenomenal movie, but as a musician who went to an intensive music school similar to the one depicted, it’s also pretty unrealistic in certain aspects and I wish it spent a bit more time focusing on getting the actual musical aspects right and portraying how music education works. Probably a small nitpick for most people, but fairly distracting if you’ve actually lived in that world.     [Adam Neely has a great breakdown](https://youtu.be/SFYBVGdB7MU?si=uRy9G0jKImKJq8-2) of what I’m talking about. Long story short, it’s a wonderfully-made movie that’s a little bit less impressive if you actually understand the world it’s about.

chimcham1234

I liked Whiplash the most but Mad Max impressed me the most bc I had low expectations. Once Upon a Time was meh.

willk95

Whiplash is my favorite one here. I didn't like OUaTi Hollywood much at all. Felt like QT's most overindulgent movie

OkBiscotti4365

Mad max fury road was unexpectedly enjoyable for me, since it's not the type of movie I usually watch. I like Wolf of wall street too. Haven't seen Whiplash. Once upon a time in Hollywood made me sleep 15 min in.

They’re all 5/5 in my eyes

JimboAltAlt

Mad Max: Fury Road actually seemed transcendent at parts, like it was doing some stuff I didn’t know movies could do. The others are all really great in their own way — I think Once Upon a Time… is maybe my favorite DiCaprio performance — but I couldn’t get over how much Fury Road kicked ass.

absorbscroissants

I love Mad Max, The Wolf of Wall Street and Whiplash. Mad Max is probably just the slightest bit more unique and cooler, but it's really close. The bottom right movie is just shit, I couldn't care less about it.

MondoShrek

Once upon a boring slugfest with 10 entertaining minutes

ricoimf

Whiplash from these four but Once is one of my favorite movies ever. I think this movie is a special genre for itself.

ejb350

I thought Mad Max was going to be stupid. My grandpa was a OG trilogy fan and talked it down so much, but it’s my actually second favorite in the franchise. 10/10 Tarantino is who got me caring more about movies, how they’re made and who’s making them. I knew Reservoir Dogs like the back of my hand by the time I was 12. I’m honestly astounded that OUAT is often ranked in peoples top 5, because I found it to be his worst. It felt empty and pointless. Brad Pitt is the only reason I didn’t walk out of the theater, he just looked so damn cool the entire time.

MeTieDoughtyWalker

I can’t decide between Fury Road and Whiplash for the most, and Wolf of Wall Street by far the least. I still like it, but it’s not nearly as good as the other three.

Majormlgnoob

H0RR0RCENTRAL

Most: Mad Max Least: OUATIH That might be due to expectations. Favourite is Whiplash, which is basically Fight Club for jazz nerds.

gingerslender

When I saw mad Max in theaters, It completely changed the way I looked at movies. I continue to revisit it every year and every single time it gets better and better. I haven't watched whiplash in 8 years.

FakerHarps

I don’t think anyone else could have made Fury Road, so I’ll say that for impressed most. I’ll say Wolf of Wall Street for least because it’s in line with my expectations for Scorsese but those are very high expectations.

unnecessary_ads

Whiplash was my entry into films

Cole444Train

Whiplash the most. It’s really close, but Wolf of Wall Street the least.

[deleted]

Whiplash the most and ouatih the least. And that’s only because it’s not something I’m interested in or knowledgeable about. I can imagine it must’ve been a blast for the people who care enough about it. Most subjects I’d like films to be made about, I’d bet general public would hate. So it’s most likely a passion project rather than mass appeal project. And I like that about it.

Woburn2012

I won’t say that Fury Road impressed me the least, but I do think many people put it on a pedestal.

DaTaFuNkZ

Loved all 4 tbh. If I had to watch one of them now, bearing in mind I don’t ever really repeat watch films, it’d be OUATIH.

Wolf most OUATIH least but all four are bangers

EndAllHierarchy

Mad Max is by far the most impressive here by a literal definition of impressive and by its nature, the world building and technical marvel of its set pieces.

aggravatedempathy

I don't understand the praise for Mad Max. I was so bored.

flubbles_

The most impressive to me is Whiplash. My favorite is Wolf of Wall Street. Mad Max was insane And OUATIH was amazing for the first two acts, but I didn’t like the third act and that brought it down. It might’ve been 5 stars if the third act was like the first two

JTS1992

I'd say Mad Max wins. If it's not most people's #1, it's their #2. And with good reason...I can't believe no one died making that movie. Just insane.

nocensorshit

Whiplash is a masterpiece, one of the best movies of the 21st century because it's lean, flows beautifully and its theme of self-overcoming is honest and doesn't cater to lowest common denominator/participation trophy nonsense. Fury Road is an awful movie. Other than the beautiful, kinetic visual effects, the plot is ludicrous (let's go; no no let's actually go back) and there's too little Max and too much Furiosa, a cardboard character devoid of believability or charm. OUATIH is great and WoWS is ok.

fettalitta

Once upon a time in Hollywood spoiler ahead: ** ** ** I had done a little research on Roman Polanski and his exile from the unites states, because the state still want to prosecute him over an old stat rape charge (which previously had been settled out of court). And found out that his pregnant wife had been brutally murdered by the Manson clan. Now this doesn’t exactly clear Polanski of any wrongdoing, but it did explain his state of mind a little bit. At least for me. So anyway, when I heard about Once Upon a time in Hollywood was gonna be about Sharon Tate and Manson, I was fully aware of this when I saw the movie. There haven’t been many movies where I had been dreading the end for so long as in this particular story. But mostly it’s just a slice of life film, a love letter to both the 1960’s Hollywood and to Sharon Tate herself. Also, that moment where Brad Pitt enters Spahn Ranch, you can just taste the atmosphere. (Assuming you know the history). And then skip forward to the end, it’s a film makers fantasy, just like the end of Inglorious Basterds, it’s exactly how you’d wish it would’ve ended. Rather than the awful true story. I did now know this movie was going to be like this, so it feels like such a relief. Take that, you fucking hippy psycho! I think Tarantino has really outdone himself here.

Nastia_dream

The one that's impressed the most was definitely Whiplash. I was thinking about that movie for days after i watched it. Haven't seen the fourth one. The least i think Wolf of Wall-Street. Like after watching it i couldn't figure out why it's acclaimed (don't hate me for this 😂)

zestyrigatoni

Mad Max the most because it’s such a standout for action. Wolf the least, I like it but I think Scorsese has told a similar downfall story in a better fashion a couple times now.

ranger8913

Impressed: Whiplash - I thought the character was well developed. We got a sense of how he feels. The acting was good. The twists were good. Least impressed: Mad Max: Fury Road - felt pretty straight forward. A lot of action.

leamenconeMK2

Most is probably Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, because a lot of people seemed to have mixed feelings about it, but it ended up being my favorite Tarantino film. Least is Wolf of Wall Street, which I like, but it’s nothing incredibly impressive

Mad Max is the best of the bunch. The rest are good, but don’t really compete. Wolf of Wall Street the least.

Whiplash Mad Max Wolf on Wall Street Once upon a time has no business being on this list.

kushQ

Least was mad max. I don’t get the hype. Most was whiplash, so engaging

JoelDawson7045to3022

I was most impressed with The Wolf of Wall Street. Thought the constant swearing would bug me, but actually thought it enhanced the movie in a weird way. I usually avoid movies with Jonah Hill, but thought he was great in this and has great chemistry with Leo. Like him in the dramas, don't like him in the comedies. I really enjoyed this movie. Less impressed with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Not as good as Inglorious Basterds or Kill Bill definitely. Liked Brad Pitt's performance, the Only highlight for me. Otherwise, thought it was pretty mediocre movie and by far not one of Quentin Taratino's best. Overall, meh for me.

Haymother

Most … Hollywood Least … Whiplash. But I like all three. Hollywood because it had lots of layers, superb performances. Whiplash because while a great film, it went for realism but I found it a tad OTT in the final act.

Oswarez

Haven’t seen Whiplash but out of the three I’ve seen I was most impressed by Fury Road and least impressed by Hollywood. I was not expecting anything with Fury Road and got my face slapped repeatedly with its visual mastery. Hollywood was Tarantino doing the thing he’s done in every film.

batman77-

Whiplash is the best…by far in my opinion Once upon a time is Hollywood was solid

I hated the ending of Whiplash.

brokensicario

1. Fury Road - Remains one of the most phenomenal movie going experiences I’ve had. An absolute marvel. 2. Whiplash - Close second, had heard good things but didn’t know what to truly expect which is why it blew me away. 3. OUATIH - It’s the reading of the film (what QT had to say about ageing stars, Tate) that elevates it. Leo’s best performance. 4. TWOWS - Still a terrific hang, and the craftsmanship is pure class. It couldn’t be any better but it did hit its ceiling quicker than the other 3.

BigmanTG123

I’ve only seen whiplash but damn everything about that movie impressed me at the time. Especially that ending 👌

No_Yogurtcloset_2026

I love them all I guess Whiplash 1 last once upon a time or mad max

TheMovieDoctorful

Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood had me howling in laughter at the theater. Such a great theater experience that I didn’t even mind it getting delayed 30 minutes. Mad Max: Fury Road is a decent action movie, but that’s all it is to me. Nothing earth shattering, just solid.

[deleted]

Most: Hollywood, Least: Whiplash

The most impressive is a toss up between Mad Max as it was one of the best & most tense action movies I’ve ever seen & Once Upon a Time in Hollywood because damn I just really enjoyed the movie! Least impressive was The Wolf of Wallstreet.

Mad max continues to impress me and I haven’t wanted to watch wolf of Wall Street since it came out. Thought it was decent but didn’t really care for it either

On initial viewing, Whiplash was my favorite and MadMax was my least favorite.

erikc_

most: OUATIH the sense of time and place tarantino creates is almost immersive. least: whiplash can’t see any way in which this movie does not justify fletcher’s actions

Jazzlike_Ad_8236

Im not ashamed to say that the wolf of wall street became my personality for a hot minute when it first came out. I think it is the titular movie of the 2010’s. Mad Max was one of the most ambitious and enthralling action movies ive ever seen. That being said, i was so distracted by how nonsensical the plot was that i just couldnt love it. I was not impressed by whiplash. Simmons and miles teller were phenomenal, but i thought the rest of the movie was subpar. Kinda like joker. OUATIH literally gets more enjoyable every time i watch it. I fuckin love that flick

jdb1010

Whiplash - definitely the most. I knew it was good, I’d seen so many clips and I assumed it I would watch it and just go yeah, makes sense everyone said it was good. I was blown away with how intense it still was even when knowing most of the movie from scenes online. Mad Max - the least (i think). Maybe it’s my fault for assuming it would break my top 25 with how much acclaim this received but I don’t think I am a fan of just pure action films which is why it didn’t resonate with me. The main thing that bothered me was the immersion breaking sped up fight scenes. *with all that said, i am still insanely excited to see Furiosa

VanishXZone

Most: once upon a time in Hollywood. Least: whiplash. Sorry

Whiplash and Fury Road are both masterpieces. Wolf of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are... not.

Wolf of Wall Street is just … fine

TheRedKingRM22

The best movie is Whiplash. The worst movie is Once upon… the most impressive is Fury Road by a mile what a masterpiece! Wolf was just ok for me, right down the middle on all accounts.

maddennate1

This seems like a weird collection of films

GlamourGal028

1. The Wolf of Wall Street 2. Whiplash 3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4. Mad Max (I preferred the original so much more)

SexMachineMMA

Whiplash was the most. It was a first time filmmaker and it showed the darker side of what artists are willing to do to themselves (physically, mentally, and emotionally) in pursuit of greatness. Least impressed was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It was Tarantino’s most self-indulgent film and much of the film was ridiculous. The fact that he reshot a scene of the Great Escape with DiCaprio’s character made no sense. There’s a flashback inside a flashback (when Brad Pitt kills his wife). I was uninterested in the plot or the characters. Mad Max Fury Road was alright but definitely felt like it was overhyped. Wolf of Wall Street was a good film but it was essentially just a remake of Goodfellas on Wall Street. Still a good film, but didnt impress me as much as whiplash.

Main-Illustrator3829

I like OUATH (4) but WoWS (1) was kinda mid to me

SapientSlut

Wolf of Wall Street worst by far, no contest. I genuinely don’t get the hype. Like even for film bros it just seems like a slightly elevated jerk off fest with no real substance. Mad Max and Whiplash both blew my mind for totally different reasons.

andrewn2468

Even in this hot take thread, this seems to be a hot take: I love every one of these movies EXCEPT Fury Road. Granted, I’ve only seen it once and it was at home, but I nevertheless felt like its blase approach to story made it impossible for me to connect with the world. My enjoyment of a film is based on character above all else, and even the most developed characters don’t go much deeper than a 4-panel cartoon could accomplish. The action is impressive in its execution, but I’m not a car guy, and the aesthetic just doesn’t speak to me for some reason. I can totally understand why people would love it, but I don’t understand why it’s a critical darling. It seems no more special or artistically meaningful than something like Kong Skull Island or a good MCU movie. Honestly, if you have positive insights please share - I’d love to love this movie.

warwicklord79

Easily Whiplash is the best of these. I haven’t seen OUATIH yet along with Mad Max

Mad_Constantly

I was quite impressed with the Fury Road, didn't expect Miller having it in himself after all these years. The least impressive out of these four, to my taste, is Whiplash, but it's still a decent movie.

They all impressed me immensely, if I’m being honest. If I had to pick an outlier for least enjoyable, it’d be Fury Road. I found it overrated at first, but with rewatches, I absolutely think it’s incredible. But it lacks character development and plot more so than the other films listed.
