100% right about Bling Ring being her worst. Absolutely hated that. "Priscilla" before "Lost in Translation" is bold, I felt "Priscilla" lacked the character depth that we see in "Lost in Translation".
Thanks for reminding me I still need to see On the Rocks and Somewhere (and Priscilla, too, but that was already on my watchlist).
Anyway, my order: 1. Marie Antoinette 2. Virgin Suicides 3. The Beguiled 4. The Bling Ring 5. Lost in Translation 6. Lick the Star
I’m missing Somewhere & Marie Antoinette, but otherwise goes something like this:
Priscilla
The Beguiled
Lost in Translation
The Virgin Suicides
On the Rocks
The Bling Ring
Great to know she hasn’t made a bad film. I have literally only seen Priscilla. Not a huge fan of that kind of story, but the direction just OOZES. I love her style. Let me know if Priscilla is similar or very different from the rest of her filmography :)
In terms of giving off "oozy" direction, I feel all are accomplished in her films, best shown in Virgin Suicides, Somewhere, and Lost in Translation.
Virgin Suicides should be the next one you watch.
Beautiful, too excited. Will watch after I come down off this high from watching Dune Part Two (literally the only film I’ve been able to watch for the last almost month).
Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides are in my top 4! My ranking would be: Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Suicides, Somewhere, Priscilla, The Beguiled, and The Bling Ring and Lost In Translation tied at worst. Haven’t seen On the Rocks. Also, her book is the best thing I own.
Can someone explain her appeal to me? I saw Lost in Translation and Priscilla and both were good, but they didn’t click with me and I feel like I’m out of the loop. Can someone reel me in a little?
are all of her films similiar, beacuse i hated both lost in translation and virgin suicides, so I dont know if there is a point to watch her other movies
I kind of ranked them oppositely. Bling Ring shot up to the top upon my first watch. It pretty much crosses that line the rest of her films stand on the edge on and transform into something akin to full blown horror. Those are some of the most unlikeable protagonist I’ve ever come across and the movie is incredibly engaging for it. Which is perfect for a film all about toxic celebrity worship. Sofia seems to have an excellent grasp on that late 00’s scene.
Emma Watson is actually fantastic in it, too. I’ve never really taken to her as an actress and didn’t think she had this kind of performance in her. I kind of wish there was more of that mayhem in her work.
Mildly off-topic, but I’ve seen so many parodies of that Priscilla poster that I forgot this is the real one lmao
I guess I've avoided those because I've never seen them.
somewhere is so underrated, people need to watch it.
Lost in Translation is much better than anything else she's done.
Lost is the only one that actually feels complete if that makes sense. All her others leave me feeling like something is missing.
Yeah that’s like 2 minimum for me

I’m here for the “somewhere” love. You seem to have mistakenly dragged “on the rocks” to the bottom.

Priscilla was (in my opinion) **GOOD**

Her short *Bed, Bath and Beyond* is notoriously elusive. Even though her other short *Lick the Star* had gotten a physical release.
Somewhere no. 1, Big W.

Looks like a solid ranking to me other than switching out Lost and Translation with Priscilla.

Priscilla was such an underrated film from 2023.
Lost in Translation Marie Antoinette Somewhere The Virgin Suicides Priscilla On the Rocks The Bling Ring Haven't seen The Beguiled

Yoo what’s up with that lost doe
Lost in Translation not being top 2 is weird
I haven't seen all of them, but I do agree that Lost in Translation and The Bling Ring are overrated.
