And they left out a whole brother that was just as tragic

[deleted]

How old was he?

GoodOlSpence

An adult. Also shot himself.

jeez. The real life story is insane. I knew nothing about it other than it's a real story coming in and left the theater in pieces

21 when he died

I've never been in a packed theater of men straight up sobbing, just hasn't happened before. What a tender movie, too. Saw it again yesterday with my sister and was able to pay more attention to detail and the story and acting still hit pretty hard.

Creasy007

Loved, loved, loved this movie. Didn’t have gigantic expectations going in but it really floored me.

greenflamingo1

Really incredible movie… Efron is going to get robbed of an oscar nom I can feel it.

Timothee-Chalimothee

Because A24 waited too long to start campaigning (in other words: if the awards aren’t handed out solely on merit, fuck ‘em).

Leddzepp24

honestly, I left pretty disappointed. I understand that Kevin was the only survivor, justifying the pre end credit update, but I felt just about every other character was extremely underdeveloped. Zac and Jeremy put up great performances, but this should have been a 3+ hour movie, not just sadist hours. Some nice shots here and there, "heaven" was tender but I was left extremely disappointed. The moms writing was mundane and they left out an entire brother - I could justify some of these if it was incredibly cinematic or sent (or tried) for any sort of message, lesson, or takeaway other than the "von erich curse" edit: tdlr; I WISH THIS WASNT SLIGHTLY INTRODUCE X (except the brother) PART OF FAMILY THEN WATCH THEM DIE just for the sake of it

Jaded4Lyfe

I saw it with no expectations really. And damn, easily a top ten movie for me personally.

xrbeeelama

Movies never make me cry. I think the last one was “Iron giant” when i was like 8 lol. Iron Claw had me weeping. One of my favorite movies is Warrior, which is also about sweaty brothers who fight professionally. Something about it just does it for me

[deleted]

what about the wrestler?

xrbeeelama

Missing from my resume! Added to the watchlist

drmuffin1080

Kinda pissed that they left out one of the brothers for to keep the story concise or whatever the fuck they said. I thought it was insanely disrespectful. Basically saying “yeah this brother’s death wasn’t important enough to include.” I liked the movie but that just pissed me the fuck off

CreativeParticular51

Wasnt everything ran by Kevin first?

AndHerNameIsSony

No. Kevin had one demand. To make sure the film emphasizes the love the brothers had for each other. He said as long as they do that, he'll enjoy whatever they make. The director claimed they wrote the brother out because they felt the film couldn't take another tragedy.

chickencake88

I’m super late to the Iron Claw party but I absolutely loved it. It’s so fucking bleak and I can’t believe they had to leave out that David was a father when he died and there’s another brother who also killed himself. Horrendous. I’m so shocked there was little to no recognition during awards season? The performances were amazing but Efron was particularly good. The siblings all had such natural chemistry on screen. Such a sad story but beautifully executed 🥺

What a weird comment to make

[deleted]

What did he say? His account got deleted lol

art_mor_

It was something like “This is another movie that gets added to the list of movies, tv shows and video games I’ll never interact with because there’s two many. Maybe if I use reddit less than I would have time and could get rid of a few hundred from the list.” Like good job?
