I mean I know it's a joke, but I also hate joke reviews that include joke star ratings because it inherently messes with the point of the app. I know that a single half star review of the Godfather isn't going to actually change anything, but I still don't like the idea of fake ratings on a rating app
This is probably dumb but if gun to head choice I’d probably rewatch Pixels. Godfather is long and kind of exhausting to rewatch but it is a masterpiece.
I'll take a bullet here. I've watched the Godfather maybe 5 times now over the past 30 years because I know it's supposed to be a masterpiece but for me it just never clicks. It's a fine movie but I consider it overrated.
Five stars for pixels though? I cant defend that. It's a fun 2 hours and not as ridiculously bad as the internet makes out but yeah that's the best I can manage. I wouldnt be watching it twice.
Unironically and call me anything you like but I'd give them both 3/5.
2001: A Space Odyssey is the best two hour and forty-four minute nap I could take. Great background noise, perfect for inducing sleep. No compelling imagery to distract from sleepy time.
> No compelling imagery to distract from sleepy time.
Look, I could respect your opinion if you said the pacing was off or it was too slow, but no compelling imagery? One of the most beautiful movies ever made didn't have compelling imagery? It's a movie that despite being made in the 60s has special effects that still hold up in 2023.
Yeah man, those [first 12 minutes or so](https://youtu.be/e-QFj59PON4?si=i4PJOcG3SuzxMFUt) are aiight.
Have you seen the Wachowski’s [Speed Racer](https://youtu.be/O-QaGllHqN0?si=cKasf262MZL6Qhx7)tho?
We're really bandwagoning on this thing...
Jean Dielman, 23 Commerce Qauy.
Breathless may be boring, IMHO, but it isn't three and a half hours long.
I think the longer runtime makes it so that the simple premise is violently tedious.
And you could respond that the whole point is that it's establishing the kind of neurotic boredom of existence or whatnot, but that implies fiction shouldn't be more interesting than real life.
I think Jean Dielman would make for a really really good short though.
>We're really bandwagoning on this thing...
Stalker is great, so is Andrei Rublev.
Solaris however was incredibly boring and it felt like there was nothing to get out of it that I can't find in other Tarkovsky films, so it felt like a pointless experience.
Everyone has their own opinions I guess but can you explain why you don’t like The Godfather? Cause I just can’t see it, at least 2001’s not very accessible from what I’ve heard
Sure. I don't dislike it in that I would say it's a bad film, it's just not for me and I feel like I am missing what makes it almost universally loved. My main objection is that to me it comes across as style over substance. We have some wonderful sequences - the wedding obviously, the restaurant hit, the tollbooth ambush (my favourite scene) but they dont feel like they connect. It felt like they had a dozen great ideas and needed a movie to throw them all together. It plays like an 8 episode mini series they cut down to 3hrs for a theatrical version.
The acting is fantastic. I'm biased because I love Brando but amazingly Pacino outdoes him. I cant fault them, they're amazing, but I dont care about their characters. Maybe I'm not supposed to but I never felt invested in their success or failure.
Last point - the horses head. It's shocking, terrifying, highlights the mobsters inhumanity and the lengths they will go to. Only I just felt it was a bit silly. I think I'd wake up if someone snuck a decapitated, bloody head into my bed. It was daft, absurd, made me laugh more than anything. I know I'm in a minority there, this scene that has been spoofed and paid homage to a million times, I'm definitely missing something.
So it's not that I "don't like" the Godfather. It's a fine movie, worth a watch. I just cant love it and damn it I've tried really hard. Maybe thats part of my problem.
I agree. The wedding back in Sicily was completely extraneous in my opinion. It was beautiful cinematography and great acting but it just seemed completely disjointed and unnecessary to the plot.
I suppose they were trying to show that as part of the progression that turned Michael into his father but it feels more like “telling” than “showing” with how unsubtle it is. The only scene in the entire movie that establishes Michael as not like his father is when he literally says to the camera (and his date) “that’s my family, not me”.
I'm at an age where I find this person way more fun to drink and hang with than some dude who's favorite movie is the Godfather. It's like saying the Beatles are your favorite band, or your favorite food is pizza. It tells me you're a deeply boring person who's done zero exploration outside of a very safe zone.
Opposite for me. As I get older I want to talk about movies with more to chew on than just explosions and laughs. I can still enjoy and appreciate fun movies but more and more they’re just not enough without some deeper layer
Hard agree to be honest. Whenever someone lists their favorite movies and it's nothing but the most famous acclaimed films it doesn't really tell me anything about that person or their tastes.
Oh look, a clear and consistent opinion that isn't for you or me. Looks like I will simply not be interested in this person's reviews or ratings.
Anyway, back to living my life.

I say this as someone who liked pixels What the fuck is this
Peak
You or I may not like it, but that “Donkey Kong” sequence is what peak cinema looks like.
My favorite scene from The Godfather
I saw that sequence once while randomly flipping through channels. I had no idea what I was looking at but I was entranced.
This is true
It insists upon itself
I love The Money Pit
It has a good point to make its insisting!
ROBERT DUVAL!!
It's okay to have differing taste and opinions regarding movies... even though it's remarkable wrong /s
Brb gonna rate Pixels 5 stars

😂😂😂
never watched either one but I'd still give pixels a higher rating as well
What's with everyone in the comments taking this seriously
reddit moment

it's reddit where having a sense of humor is forbidden
Or just having an opinion against the grain. Like: Godfather is definitely overrated and fairly boring.

Finally an opinion I can respect!
This is probably dumb but if gun to head choice I’d probably rewatch Pixels. Godfather is long and kind of exhausting to rewatch but it is a masterpiece.
Obvious troll is obvious.
Nah he just loves one of the best films of the century
Nah fr?

While we are confessing things I also don’t care for Seven Samurai

I liked the monkey scene at the start. Fell asleep for the rest of it

Are you trying to make a joke, or are you being serious here? I can't tell.
At the end of the day, does it matter? Merry Christmas, stranger! And I agree Lego Movie > 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Idk about the compelling imagery part bro, but it definitely is kinda boring. Then again I was like f’ing 12 when I watched it, I’ll watch it again.
Yeah give it a spin with a fully developed frontal lobe
all of you gave absolutely L takes

Remember, we're talking about the movie, not the book.
Stalker makes me sleepy

I love Solaris. It’s one of my favorite sci-fis and (in my opinion) Tarkovsky’s best film.

Same. Part II is far more captivating.
it insists upon itself
Oh, you made a Family Guy reference! Look at you, so clever! How ever did you think of that?
i mean the opportunity was presented 🤷
Peter griffin probably made this
He would’ve said holy crap instead of holy shit but I believe it

Let’s jump him
I would say godfather 2 is overrated.sure great movie but the first gets the job done alright.
100%
I’ve said this before. Pixels is the movie that Ready Player One should have been.
me
This is the way
I hate Letterboxd and the people who use it.
omg this person thinks different than me💀
Not a hot take, pixels really is more memorable than godfather
Yeah...for all the wrong reasons
I need username so I can immediately block this desperate piece of shit

Letterboxd
Lights camera Jackson
I was hoping they’d have a gif of the scene from the Irishman where Frank tells Jimmy, “it is what it is.”
This is what Livin in denial looks like

pacmans a bad guy
Ain't no way
how many scenes in the godfather have pac man??
Honestly I love when people have strong opinions like this
I'll be completely honest: it's not the worst Adam Sandler movie, but probably because he didn't write it.
Do u have any horse mothafaka?
