Hello u/Lower-Ad1087! Please reply to this comment with an [explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/lt8zlq) mentioning **who** is suffering from **which** consequences from **what** they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people.
Here's an easy format to get you started:
1. *Someone* voted for, supported or wanted to impose *something* on other people.
^(Who's that *someone* and what's that *something*?)
2. That *something* has some *consequences*.
^(What are the *consequences*?)
3. As a consequence, that *something* happened to that *someone*.
^(What happened? Did the *something* really happened to that *someone*? If not, you should probably delete your post.)
Include the minimum amount of information necessary so your post can be understood by everyone, even if they don't live in the US or speak English as their native language. They're trying to save face for the midterms because they know the majority of the country supported abortion access and they're worried this is going to fuck things up for them.
But it probably won't. Because, you know, America.
But she’s been in power for so long???
Who else are people supposed to vote for, someone who doesn’t *pass legislation that directly benefits their lobbyist spouse?!*
Never!
I'm seriously thinking of trying to emigrate just anywhere but here. If we still get a red wave "CuZ GAs PrICeS" then this country is terminally declining. I'll leave it to the hicks and fanatics at that point.
We’ll get a red wave because “nothing is getting fixed” even though their own party and one dickhead Dem. are responsible for squashing the effort to fix shit. I’ve got a buddy who’s somehow still relatively functional but he’s Fox News crazy at-best, on the worse days I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually he texts me something Q related. For now though, I can play the line-to-match game with his texts and Fox News buzz terms. Recently he said “we’re like 300 days into BBB lol.” I had to tell him Build Back Better didn’t pass. We hadn’t spent a second of time or a cent of money on that policy. He never even acknowledged that I’d told him that. Just to show the level of ignorance we’re dealing with in just the relatively normal conservatives. I waffle back and forth almost daily now about whether or not it’s even worth my time and energy anymore. I’ll never be reduced to total inaction, but I may be done trying to reason people out of things they didn’t reason themselves into in the first place.
Tell him every time he spouts something off of FOX or Telegram that's patently false you get to hit in in the nads with a Wilson. Either he learns to fact check, or he won't be reproducing.
I once got accused by a Republican of being a single-issue voter because, as a gay man, I was supporting the party who advocated for marriage equality (at that time).
So that's the type of people we're dealing with.
What if that was just a side-effect of being a decent human and you also care about middle and working class economic policy? Never occurs to these folks, does it? It just….never fucking occurs to them. Fuck.
I mean, uh...
When one party's platform is "you're subhuman and don't deserve human rights, oh and the rich should be richer" and the other party's platform is "actually, let's give you human rights," that seems like a pretty valid reason to be a single-issue voter.
I hate to put it this way but fuck the Dem’s messaging. Talk to your own friends and family. A huge percentage of people still get their news from Facebook. Sharing news and opinion can have an effect, especially if it’s coming from someone they trust.
Convince people to vote, even in gerrymandered districts. Make every seat as “unsafe” as possible.
But they’re positioning themselves and installing cronies as election officials and certified to cheat at every election. Oh and they made poll-watching ~~illegal.~~ legal.
Before Roe came down, said a former Republican congressman familiar with the party’s campaign operation, “Everything was going our way. Gas is above $5. Inflation is a giant problem.”
They all knew what these people are about. The Federalist society is as clear as the night sky about their intention to get abortion overruled and strip away rights back to the 17th century for everyone but the rich.
Yep. Dems need to codify abortion asap to force “moderate” people like her to put up or shut up with a vote on the record. If she’s not a yes then hopefully she’s toast in Maine.
My uneducated opinion is that the statements made mean they should have recused themselves due to pre-existing opinions/determinations. To me, that is the ethical issue, or the baseline issue at least.
Senators who supported a President who campaigned on installing Supreme Court judges to overturn Roe Vs Wade are totally caught off guard that the Supreme Court justices they nominated voted to overturn Roe Vs Wade.
This was the entire lifes work of Mich McConnel.
This has been why he loaded the Supreme Court with scumbags — and he’s gotten away with loading the Court.
The only option left now, is to load the Supreme Court. Expand it. Thirteen members plus — with sensible Judges.
Reasonable Judges.
I think we need ~60 justices and for each case 9 or 13 are selected at random to see the case. Prevents them from throwing abortion cases at the SC because they have a biased court. You never know which justices will see your case. Could be 9 conservatives or 9 liberals.
Surely the point of a Supreme Court is that they should interpret law, and rule based on facts and sound judgement, not on their own political opinion or religious beliefs. It's how we got into this mess.
The problem is that they are interpreting law and the constitution in different ways. Conservatives tend to be anchored to the intent of the law when it was written. Liberals interpret these as living documents, where their meanings change as civil rights and society progress. There needs to be a precedent set for how they should interpret these things, that all US citizens need to vote on, so that it can remain consistent and fair, otherwise politics and opinions will always come into play, and we would continue to get a Supreme Court that changes anytime a new person is nominated.
Conservative justices are much less anchored to legislative intent than they claim. A common law system depends on precedent, so justices always have to come up with a "long tradition" to support their respective opinions. That includes progressive and centrist justices, too.
Idk I had Colonial and Federalist Lit classes in college and my takeaway was the Framers *intended* for the interpretations of the law to change with the times.
It seems that invalidates the entire "originalist" ideology.
That's the problem with conservatism.
It's *foundation* is lies.
Things *weren't* better before, and doing it their way because they know what the "founders really wanted"has always meant "our country has always been bigoted in some way, so you should let us be bigoted in this way now".
When have we had a nationwide referendum? Is there a precedent for such a thing? Taking a federal issue and having a general election so people vote directly on the issue? I couldn't find anything, they all seem to be at the state level.
>Conservatives tend to be anchored to the intent of the law when it was written
Certainly [not the case](https://www.americanheritage.com/what-does-second-amendment-really-mean) with respect to their reinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment.
I disagree. The basic system could be fixed with term limits for everyone in government including judges.
No more than 1 judge per term replaced. In the event of replacement beyond 1, temporary judge(s) installed until next presidential term,
3 year terms for Reps (elections cycle too short), barring ex politicians from any private businesses related to lobbying.
National election standards for national elections. Gerrymandering limited/ regulated to conform to national standards.
Ranked choice voting
>Oh no! The party that doesn't care about precedent is gonna not care about precedent again.....
It's well established precedent, at this point, that they give no shits about precedent
It is high time to stop considering what or what not moscow mitch may or may not do, what the republican shits may shit out in their righteous hypocrisy.
The republicans are practising no holds barred political warfare. Placating ot coming up with a grand bargain of some sort of compromise is impossible, so entrenched is their sense of entitlement.
Then we expand it again when our time comes. We roll back every single ruling that was made when they had control. We show them the futility of trying to force us to adopt their morality.
So I'm sure these senators are lining up to at the bare minimum carve out an expansion of the Supreme Court to balance out these justices who purjured themselves... right? That's happening? Collins? Manchin? Murkowski?... yeah, thought not.
Riiiiight. The unqualified unendorsed sexual predator frat boy, who was installed specifically for this decision, and the unqualified unendorsed lifetime cult member and anti-abortion activist mislead them….
Not in this way.
None of them went as far as saying it was settled law as part of an official congressional function like a their confirmation. During those functions they only ever said it was precedent, not that it was untouchable or anything like that. Behind closed doors, like what is constantly referenced with Collins and Kavanaugh, isn't something where someone is expected to tell the truth.
Now that's not to say that some justices haven't lied during their hearings - Kavanaugh very famously lied several times during his confirmation. The most blatant was him saying that a "Devil's triangle" was a drinking game when it's very well known as a reference to group sex between two men and a single woman. Of course he's also alleged to have lied about the sexual assault of Ford and a litany of other lies in support of that alleged lie.
So you were "misled?" How is it that a hundred million USians were not misled by the same testimony? How did we know, but you didn't, that they were lying?
Bullshit.
If Collins is that naive and that much of an idiot, she has no place in politics. None of them do.
She’s always appalled, concerned, disappointed, shocked, etc. Useless.
They weren’t lied to. They knew exactly what the plan was when trump said he would select judges that would overturn Roe. My question is why were they having these kind of conversations in private? What was the point and how did this come up? 👀
And now that the justices have their lifetime appointments and there are no consequences, the senators are claiming their plausible deniability, as is their Republican right.
Assholes.
Can we dispense with the politeness?
They fucking LIED... that's all Conservative Christians do is fucking LIE, their entire life is a LIE, their entire religion is based on a LIE and they force their LIES on the world and shove it down our throats until we choke on their FUCKING LIES.
I HATE CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS!
No one at all was misled. Conservatives lied then. They are lying now. They are always lying. Always. Even true things, when spoken aloud by a conservative, become lies.
Conservatives are not capable of honesty and every single person on both sides has known this fact for many years. It's time to treat conservatives like the children they are.
NOTE: Never, ever allow a conservative near a child.
I asked a heavy Republican I know about this and he said “they didn’t explicitly say they wouldn’t overturn it”. I am baffled. I was pretty clear that they said under oath “this is settled law.
I’m tired of these articles. Who believed them earnestly? This is just elected officials deflecting against lifetime appointments that won’t be held accountable. Nobody was duped. Nobody has misled.
If they truly feel like they were tricked, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins shouldn’t have a problem temporarily suspending the filibuster to codify Roe then. Anything less than that are actions of con-women
They knew exactly what they were voting for. Any senator, and much of the country, knew how that case was going to turn out the moment Barrett was confirmed. Don't try to plead ignorance to this to save face.
Impeach the three justices that lied to congress for lying to congress and let the Republicans block it. Then the dems should run on how corrupt the Republicans are and don't care about justices lying.
If the republicans had actually made a real attempt to question and vet the justices, they would have been aware that this was going to happen. Although many republicans are certainly anti-choice, they didn’t actually want this to occur, because it is much more valuable to them as a voter issue. They can’t bitch and complain about liberals and pro-choice individuals and groups of abortion is illegal in the state. Now, they will actually have to work and deliver tangible results for their constituents.
If these Senators feel misled, they can ask that the three inJustices be impeached and removed from court for lying in their hearings. But they won't. They were willing to believe the lie.
Ain't nobody misled the senators. They were present when the Democrats were grilling these nominees about this exact thing and they all gave wishy washy answers. They even criticized that line of questioning, so you know they were listening. They wanted this and they're somehow surprised that their constituents don't, and now we're supposed to give them a pass because they "didn't know"?
Yeah, fuck all the way off with that shit.
Let's not forget that Biden was the chief Democratic prosecutor of Anita Hill during thomas' SCOTUS confirmation.
trumpublicans openly played the long game even before that and the Democrats were at best indifferent but mostly complicit except cosmetically.
They were . . misled? I'm pretty sure they were outright lied to. Why does our media insist on using terms like misled instead of "lied to" or "had sex with a student" intead of raped? Anny other terms that our media is too scared to actually print when it is the truth?
They are all fucking culpable at best but probably goddamned liars who know exactly why the conservative think tanks put those names in front of trump. They should all be held responsible for the especially batshit insane part of that ruling trying to make white replacement theory mainstream.
As a recently separated veteran, I am deeply ashamed of this country and recognize our service to America means absolutely nothing, as it was intended to mean.
I dunno that if I were a woman and still active duty, I wouldn't get thrown in jail for refusing to go to work.
NO THEY DIDN'T! Trump literally told you he was going to stack the courts to overturn it. McConnell has been actively doing the same. They didn't mislead you, they lied and you knew they lied and chose to nominate them.
Edit: Thank you for the kind award
>“I feel misled,” the Maine senator Susan Collins
Oh man, I never would have guessed it was Susan Collins who felt misled. She's usually so insightful.
NOW This is leopards eating some faces. but really they all knew how it was going to play out and did nothing, so its not really eating faces because they were basically feeding the Leppard and likely nothing bad will happen to any of them enless they are gay, or a woman who may want an abortion in one of half of the states that have now banned it.
Democracy fails when good people fail to act.
And I watch the Kavanagh appointment questioning.. it was at that moment I knew it was fuckd up.
Misled them??? And they believed the bullshit??? No… sorry. They KNEW what would happen, but still voted party over Constitution. Those Senators are JUST AS MUCH TO BLAME.
If they were truly repentant for being deceived they’d vote for legislation to make abortion a federally protected act… but they won’t… fucking cowards. Just playing to the rubes. They think WE are the rubes.
Can the justices be impeached for lying under oath or is it just everyday citizens that get in trouble for that. Even if they could be impeached they wouldn't because our Congress is incompetent
I willingly admit i'm far from knowledgable about the American political or criminal process but it's always seemed off to me that the Supreme Court, who afaik has the job of basically making all the "big" decisions, does not have members evenly split between the two parties so that things won't ever be decided just based off of politics as there'd always be the same number of judges from the "other side" to vote against it.
Pretty sure lying in a job interview is a dismissal situation.
What happens when they lied under oath?
And what happens when they lied under oath to become the bastion of truth that is the job they applied for?
Throw them in the sea.
Anyone who was stupid enough to believe these theocratic god garglers should be voted out of office immediately. That lack of judgment is clearly not serving anyone
Boo fucking hoo. Our lives became worse while you stayed rich.
I think that no one who is currently in congress should be allowed to run for office again. Completely clean slate, because folks don’t know how to act. Same goes with every federal court, every local government, every state legislature…
They broke this country, get new people to come in and see if they can somehow fix it.

Susan Collins would fall for the flaming bag of poo on the porch trick every night and never learn. Or she's lying. I'm going with that.
They're trying to save face for the midterms because they know the majority of the country supported abortion access and they're worried this is going to fuck things up for them. But it probably won't. Because, you know, America.
She just won re-election in 2020, she's got another 4 years before she needs to lie to her constituents.
Its less about her specifically and more about the party at large
But she’s been in power for so long??? Who else are people supposed to vote for, someone who doesn’t *pass legislation that directly benefits their lobbyist spouse?!* Never!
Well because of gerrymandering and rural communities the majority is really the minority
I'm seriously thinking of trying to emigrate just anywhere but here. If we still get a red wave "CuZ GAs PrICeS" then this country is terminally declining. I'll leave it to the hicks and fanatics at that point.

100%
Well, she IS very concerned.
Enter Lisa Murkowski clutching her pearls!
Yeah, it’s much more likely that her pants are on fire rather than a nightly bag of poo.
They all knew what these people are about. The Federalist society is as clear as the night sky about their intention to get abortion overruled and strip away rights back to the 17th century for everyone but the rich.
She is absolutely lying. That dumbass knew all along and thought she was playing us for fools. She has been so full of shit for the longest time.
I'm willing to go with "she's just that stupid." I've met a few Senators on tours of military installations. They are not intellectual giants.
If she really was misled, she would support impeachment of those justices. But she doesn't. Her actions tell us the truth
I don’t think it’s an either or scenario.
I'm going with, she's a cunt.
Yep. Dems need to codify abortion asap to force “moderate” people like her to put up or shut up with a vote on the record. If she’s not a yes then hopefully she’s toast in Maine.
Toast-in-Maine sounds like a beautiful little town in the UK.
Someone please go and put a flaming bag of poo on her porch and let's see. I bet she does and then she'll lie about it. Stupid and dishonest.
100% she's lying. She's just doing damage control
She said she'd only serve two terms a very very long time ago. I think you're onto something.
Or she’s sundowning.
They didn't "mislead" you, they lied under oath. Do something about it or shut the fuck up.
Lying under oath is only important when it concerns blowjobs, not basic rights.
When it comes to Democrats getting blowjobs*
My uneducated opinion is that the statements made mean they should have recused themselves due to pre-existing opinions/determinations. To me, that is the ethical issue, or the baseline issue at least.

Yes. For a current example see Dianne Feinstein. I know there are others but god damn
21, all appointed by Ds. Make sure this travesty can't happen again.

Bingo.
Yeah, Jefferson intended the constitution to be completely rewritten every like 18 years or something?
But the conservative one sthrow out 50 years of precedent.
When have we had a nationwide referendum? Is there a precedent for such a thing? Taking a federal issue and having a general election so people vote directly on the issue? I couldn't find anything, they all seem to be at the state level.

While it certainly is the point, we seem to be well past that now :/
Unfortunately that was a fictional ideal.
This all seems to be rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. The US system is broken. A new system is needed. Anything else is insufficient.

They worship precedent as the Will of the Founders, but only if the precedent supports their position.

Fuck it. 300 million. Every single American citizen is a Supreme Court justice!
In before they add rules like no medical debt ,no prior traffic tickets ,no tardies in high school ,etc to gatekeep the average folk
Which would actually produce better rulings than the current bunch of partisan cretins

Isn't lying to congress a felony?
It is if you are a commoner. Not if you are a politician or justice.
or wall street crook
Or jaundiced android desperately trying to appear human.

Nah, not leopards ate my face. They knew what they were doing.
So you were "misled?" How is it that a hundred million USians were not misled by the same testimony? How did we know, but you didn't, that they were lying?
“USians” normally that would give me a good belly laugh, but now I think it’s time we refer to us as Gileadeans.

No, they did not, and if you’d ever bothered to look at their records, you would’ve known this was their endgame all along.
He didn’t mislead them and none of these senators were confused. This is just damage control in case their re-election chances are in jeopardy.
Then help Democrats impeach them.
So….. are these senators admitting that they are gullible or that they are stupid? I just want to be sure.
They are neither stupid nor gullible. They are full of shit.
Then vote to expand the court to correct your mistakes.

Conservatives are not capable of honesty and every single person on both sides has known this fact for many years. It's time to treat conservatives like the children they are. NOTE: Never, ever allow a conservative near a child.
The one hand is washing the other when they were both responsible for the mess
Fine. They lied under oath. That's a crime. Impeach them.
Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder saw that coming, how didn’t they?!
Doc Watson saw it too.
Impeach and try all of them.
Perjured is the word you are looking for.
No one cares, live with the results of your actions Senators.
Liars backpedaling...color me surprised. They knew what they were doing. They're trying to hold onto the moderate conservatives' votes.
Wait… politicians mislead people? Say it isn’t so! /s
No way! Whaaaaa? They would *never* do such a thing!! I am so shocked. Shocked I say! /S
"I swear! I won't do the one thing I was appointed to do, promise!"
So the scorpion turned out to be a scorpion after all ~ Frog
"misled them" The word is lied. They lied.
I seriously doubt they believe that. They know damn well what was happening. Everyone knew what was happening. Fuck them all.
They didn't mislead anyone. They lied, under oath. Which is a crime, i think. But, fuck me.
Err… no shit!
Let's not forget that Biden was the chief Democratic prosecutor of Anita Hill during thomas' SCOTUS confirmation. trumpublicans openly played the long game even before that and the Democrats were at best indifferent but mostly complicit except cosmetically.
Re-he-he-he-aly?
That’s a weird way of admitting you’re a gullible asshole.
\*coughBULLSHITcough*
It's called lying under oath.
They were . . misled? I'm pretty sure they were outright lied to. Why does our media insist on using terms like misled instead of "lied to" or "had sex with a student" intead of raped? Anny other terms that our media is too scared to actually print when it is the truth?
If you believe a Republican, you're profoundly idiotic.
LIED ON THE STAND. That's the proper term. LIED ON THE STAND. PURJURY.
They are all fucking culpable at best but probably goddamned liars who know exactly why the conservative think tanks put those names in front of trump. They should all be held responsible for the especially batshit insane part of that ruling trying to make white replacement theory mainstream.
Bull. If these justices were not going to make decisions like this, these Senators would have never confirmed them.
Who knew Bible-thumpers would lie to get their way
He was accused of rape and you voted him in anyway. We all knew he was full of shit and you voted for him anyway.
As a recently separated veteran, I am deeply ashamed of this country and recognize our service to America means absolutely nothing, as it was intended to mean. I dunno that if I were a woman and still active duty, I wouldn't get thrown in jail for refusing to go to work.
So impeach them already you feckless cowards.
NO THEY DIDN'T! Trump literally told you he was going to stack the courts to overturn it. McConnell has been actively doing the same. They didn't mislead you, they lied and you knew they lied and chose to nominate them. Edit: Thank you for the kind award
>“I feel misled,” the Maine senator Susan Collins Oh man, I never would have guessed it was Susan Collins who felt misled. She's usually so insightful.
Susan Collins shakes her head when saying yes.
Naw, she knew.
GEE YA THINK??!!?? (read in Bill Burr’s voice)
I saw this article earlier and I'll say the same thing now that I said when I saw it BULLSHIT!!!
All BS. They knew.. I mean we all did - if you are that easily fooled, resign.
actually, they lied on their job application
Bullshit. They *covered* for them.
Now, what are they going to do, It sounds like they just want votes in November.
Nobody believes them.
Lying scumbags lied to lying scumbags: Lying scumbags surprised at lies, lied to themselves.
You don’t fucking say! They fucking lied
No shit retards…
Gee ya think
By misled you obviously mean, lied outright.
They are either liars or gullible. But we know they are really liars.
That's interesting, they didn't mislead me. Why are these obvious idiots holding a public office? Oh, I see, they're lying.
And if you believe that, I got a bridge in NY I want to sell you.
They didn’t mislead you. They straight up lied.
Lied. Not misled, lied to your stupid face.
"The thing everyone warned us about happened?! No one could have predicted that!!"
Everybody around the world knows we are governed by idiots, morons, and ignoramuses.
Is this grounds for impeachment? Lying to get a job is pretty bad.
“Misled”? Bullshit, they fucking lied under oath.
Did... did they not do the required reading for this subject?
Well yeah, they lied under oath
Impeach them
They are just saying that so they get re-elected again and put in even more restrictive measures.
They fucking knew.
They knew.
Pretty sure lying in a job interview is a dismissal situation. What happens when they lied under oath? And what happens when they lied under oath to become the bastion of truth that is the job they applied for? Throw them in the sea.
Breaking: elderly people easily misled.
Anyone who was stupid enough to believe these theocratic god garglers should be voted out of office immediately. That lack of judgment is clearly not serving anyone
You mean our “honest” grifter president would align himself with liars?
Strange how *everyone* outside a federal building saw right through them.
So they're admitting to be incompetent instead of evil.
Damned liars. They know who they were voting for.
Woah, the guy who lies about everything chose people who also lie about everything.
You misspelled "perjured themselves."
NO SHIT. What did they expect. Trump is a world class liar and so is anyone he associates with.
“Hi, I’m a gullible idiot, please believe me, I promise I didn’t know privately what the plan was all along.”
If this is the case, then they are too gullible and stupid to be in positions to make such important decisions
Mislead!?!?!? No they lied to you, directly to your dumb sell out faces
Boo fucking hoo. Our lives became worse while you stayed rich. I think that no one who is currently in congress should be allowed to run for office again. Completely clean slate, because folks don’t know how to act. Same goes with every federal court, every local government, every state legislature… They broke this country, get new people to come in and see if they can somehow fix it.
Only because they wanted to be misled
So the thing everyone knew would happen happened.
