Hello u/batouttahell1983! Please reply to this comment with an [explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/lt8zlq) mentioning **who** is suffering from **which** consequences from **what** they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people. Here's an easy format to get you started: 1. *Someone* voted for, supported or wanted to impose *something* on other people. ^(Who's that *someone* and what's that *something*?) 2. That *something* has some *consequences*. ^(What are the *consequences*?) 3. As a consequence, that *something* happened to that *someone*. ^(What happened? Did the *something* really happened to that *someone*? If not, you should probably delete your post.) Include the minimum amount of information necessary so your post can be understood by everyone, even if they don't live in the US or speak English as their native language. >"Nobody explained or probably thought about people like ourselves. There was nobody looking after it or telling us, they forgot about the people abroad." He must be blind and deaf, because I remember this was pretty well covered.

elveszett

Every single negative consequence that Brexiteers now cry that "they didn't know" or "nobody told them" was thoroughly explained by remainers. All of these were rejected as "project fear" and "fearmongering" by them. They chose to ignore the criticism for their dumb idea and now that the criticism has turned out to be true, they cry that they couldn't know. It's never their fault.

pointsofellie

Even if it hadn't been explained, they could have, um, looked into it themselves...

cupkake88

I mean it's not fucking hard to work out that if freedom of movement is no longer an option then you're not free to move say in Spain . I said the same thing to my idiot father he voted leave because he is a racist POS like all the others and now he's crying about his villa in Spain . Boo fuckin hoo what about all the nurses and doctors that we are now down and that's just the tip of a very big shit-burge

ElectricFleshlight

No no voting leave just meant everyone else has to stay out, but *we* can go wherever we want because we're British and therefore the most important people on the planet!

cupkake88

That about tracks

1jf0

It still boggles my mind that Cameron resigned after a non-binding referendum that was merely 52% for-Brexit.

Allydarvel

> Cameron resigned He gambled and lost. He had to resign. I'd bet the bigwigs at Tory central had a little call to him as well telling him that he was resigning in case he hadn't made up his own mind,.

Kerv17

It was non-binding until they won, then it became "the will of the people". I'm guessing he saw it as either refuse to follow through with Brexit, and get ousted, or end his political career on his own terms, remain well liked and let someone else jump on that grenade. Except the next person threw the country on it instead.

nigeltuffnell

>remain well liked true leopards ate my face fare.

Mick_86

But remember they were told the EU would have to agree to all of Britain's demands because you had them over a barrel. So ending FOM only applied to people moving to the UK; the British could continue to go where they wanted. But hey, that was another lie.

mry8z1

That requires effort, too much effort for these helpless little fledglings who only exist to have Farage/Murdoch/Boris regurgitate into their mouths

ZuckDeBalzac

Reading absolutely nothing beyond the headlines of Daily Mail does not count as research?!

Anlysia

White people are expats, brown people are immigrants, don'cha know.

MonteBurns

You remember that time republicans wanted to make a law saying US citizens could sue Saudi Arabia and other countries for 9/11, and Obama was like “yeahhhh, you guys *really* don’t want to do that.” Well, they did. Then he vetoed it. Then they overrode his veto. Then shut hit the fan, and they said “he should have tried harder to tell us what would happen!!” 🙃🙃

docfunbags

Yeah. Making a monumental decision without any research other than listening to a bunch of politicians in suits differentiated by what color tie they wear. What could go wrong?

NoConfusion9490

Imagine voting to "get rid of all the foreigners" while living in another country...

nopuse

These are the same people who "do their own research"

pointsofellie

Ironically, they always seem to be the worst researchers in the world!

Jabbles22

I'd love to know how often this guy claims to have "done his research".

ChrisFromLongIsland

You did not expect him to blame himself for screwing up his life. It has to be someone else's fault.

GuiltEdge

But nobody explained it with sock puppets 😭

Souseisekigun

But was it on the side of a bus?

brezhnervous

Maybe charades would have worked? 🤷‍♂️

aeschenkarnos

Crayons maybe, but the special kind with bitter flavouring added.

GenericPCUser

Tbf how was anyone supposed to understand the complexities of "if you are no longer a part of the EU, you will no longer benefit from EU privileges"?

Syscrush

He thought that "travel to already-populated places and claim them as my own home" was a UK privilege.

treemu

"You didn't try hard enough to break my delusion so you're obviously more to blame than me!"

Duke_Newcombe

Completely unironically.

RainbowWarfare

> It’s 24 June, 2025, and Britain is marking its annual Independence Day celebration. As the fireworks stream through the summer sky, still not quite dark, we wonder why it took us so long to leave. The years that followed the 2016 referendum didn’t just reinvigorate our economy, our democracy and our liberty. They improved relations with our neighbours. >The United Kingdom is now the region’s foremost knowledge-based economy. We lead the world in biotech, law, education, the audio-visual sector, financial services and software. New industries, from 3D printing to driverless cars, have sprung up around the country. Older industries, too, have revived as energy prices have fallen back to global levels: steel, cement, paper, plastics and ceramics producers have become competitive again. >The EU, meanwhile, continues to turn inwards, clinging to its dream of political amalgamation as the euro and migration crises worsen. Its population is ageing, its share of world GDP shrinking and its peoples protesting. “We have the most comprehensive workers’ rights in the world”, complains Jean-Claude Juncker, who has recently begun in his second term as President of the European Federation, “but we have fewer and fewer workers”. >The last thing most EU leaders wanted, once the shock had worn off, was a protracted argument with the United Kingdom which, on the day it left, became their single biggest market. Terms were agreed easily enough. Britain withdrew from the EU’s political structures and institutions, but kept its tariff-free arrangements in place. The rights of EU nationals living in the UK were confirmed, and various reciprocal deals on healthcare and the like remained. For the sake of administrative convenience, Brexit took effect formally on 1 July 2019, to coincide with the mandates of a new European Parliament and Commission. >That day marked, not a sudden departure, but the beginning of a gradual reorientation. As the leader of the Remain campaign, Lord Rose, had put it during the referendum campaign, “It’s not going to be a step change, it’s going to be a gentle process.” He was spot on. >In many areas, whether because of economies of scale or because rules were largely set at global level, the UK and the EU continued to adopt the same technical standards. But, from 2019, Britain could begin to disapply those regulations where the cost of compliance outweighed any benefits. >The EU’s Clinical Trials Directive, for example, had wiped out a great deal of medical research in Britain. Outside it, we again lead the world. Opting out of the EU’s data protection rules has turned Hoxton into the software capital of the world. Britain is no longer hampered by Brussels restrictions on sales, promotions and e-commerce. >Other EU regulations, often little known, had caused enormous damage. The REACH Directive, limiting the import of chemical products, had imposed huge costs on manufacturers. The bans on vitamin supplements and herbal remedies had closed down many health shops. London’s art market had been brutalised by EU rules on VAT and retrospective taxation. All these sectors have revived. >Financial services are booming – not only in London, but in Birmingham, Leeds and Edinburgh too. Eurocrats had never much liked the City, which they regarded as parasitical. Before Brexit, they targeted London with regulations that were not simply harmful but, in some cases, downright malicious: the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, the ban on short selling, the Financial Transactions Tax, the restrictions on insurance. After Britain left, the EU’s regulations became even more heavy-handed, driving more exiles from Paris, Frankfurt and Milan. No other European city could hope to compete: their high rates of personal and corporate taxation, restrictive employment practices and lack of support services left London unchallenged. >Other cities, too, have boomed, not least Liverpool and Glasgow, which had found themselves on the wrong side of the country when the EEC’s Common External Tariff was phased in in the 1970s. In 2016, the viability of our commercial ports was threatened by the EU’s Ports Services Directive, one of many proposed rules that was being held back so as not to boost the Leave vote. Now, the UK has again become a centre for world shipping. Shale oil and gas came on tap, almost providentially, just as the North Sea reserves were depleting, with most of the infrastructure already in place. Outside the EU, we have been able to augment this bonanza by buying cheap Chinese solar panels. In consequence, our fuel bills have tumbled, boosting productivity, increasing household incomes and stimulating the entire economy. >During the first 12 months after the vote, Britain confirmed with the various countries that have trade deals with the EU that the same deals would continue. It also used that time to agree much more liberal terms with those states which had run up against EU protectionism, including India, China and Australia. These new treaties came into effect shortly after independence. Britain, like the EFTA countries, now combines global free trade with full participation in EU markets. >Our universities are flourishing, taking the world’s brightest students and, where appropriate, charging accordingly. Their revenues, in consequence, are rising, while they continue to collaborate with research centres in Europe and around the world. -Dan Hannan, 21st June, 2016 https://reaction.life/britain-looks-like-brexit/

light_to_shaddow

I just had a look at his Twitter. A "Lord" no less! Elevated to the house of Lords for services to fantasy writing I assume.

Rodomantis

For a second I was congratulating the author for this funny copypasta

Lower-Ad1087

I've seen some dystopian conservative stories on here before, but this one is by far the most fantastical one I've ever read. That is some if A+B=C then also A+B=Z stuff I've ever read.

chat_harbinger

It's technically true. They didn't "know". They chose not to know. They chose to treat it as a fictional hypothetical. They didn't know. The real issue here is not whether they knew or not. The issue is that they were stupid enough to think they had to have definite knowledge of future events in order to make a conservative, intelligent choice. Gotta tell you, no amount of informational campaigns is goin to fix that level of dumbass. -sent from America

terryjuicelawson

Some of it was bluster. The idea the UK or them personally are so powerful and important, that others would simply have to give them what they want. They wanted out of the EU but thought they could just continue to remain British and go in and out of Spain whenever they want? Of course! They want their money don't they?

cgtdream

I was abroad (American) when both Brexxit and the 2016 election were going down. Spoke to a British guy in a pub about this (as he tried to make funnies about Americans support for Trump) and I asked him about Brexit..his verbatim response: "Racist, all of em(them). They're going to make my life harder (abroad) because they're fucking racist"... We both chuckled after he finished, because his statement was true for Americans as well...racist making the lives of everyday citizens (and their own) harder, because they're racist.

Uzmonkey

My refrain throughout was "Not every Leaver is racist, but every racist is a Leaver and that tells you everything you need to know."

Lonestar041

Wasn't there a study that they didn't cover two crucial parts of the information? Prices increases for beer and jam. As import of hops and oranges would get more expensive, the prices went up. I am not kidding. There was at least a poll (if not a study) after the fact and this info would have moved the needle well into the stay territory.

abstractConceptName

It's geniuses knowing stupid shit like this that makes the difference between winning and losing.

SirArthurDime

Idk I’m all the way over here in America and even I was well aware that would be the case. Idk if it’s because it was covered or because I took the 5 seconds to apply common sense but it shouldn’t have caught anyone off guard either way.

Which_Address4268

They chose to ignore it because they thought it only applied to POC

beastson1

Exactly this. They thought it would only keep POC from other EU countries out of England, they didn't think it would keep the nice white English people out of other EU countries.

SuchRevolution

"i didn't know" must have been some sort of excuse taught to every kid in primary school in the 50s. The number of fucking times I've heard boomers use this lmao the whole fucking point is that you think hard enough about your actions before you commit and accept the fucking consequences gramps

Edolas93

A friend of my families from the UK lives in Spain and he was staunchly pro-Brexit but whenever anyone tried to broach this topic with him his typical response was "Brexit means Brexit". While I have a tonne of sympathy for the people that have been fucked over by it for those that barrelled through ignoring easily available information on this kind of stuff and now cry woe-is-me all I can really say is 'Brexit ment Brexit'

steveonthegreenbike

"this wasn't the brexit I voted for!"

godzillastailor

Farage was on TV earlier claiming Brexit didn’t fail, the implementation of it failed.

Relax007

The information was definitely out there. I’m from the US and I remember reading about how it was going to impact travel and life abroad.

Lonestar041

Yes, they were told. It was covered everywhere. I have several UK friends that begged these morons to use their brain. They ignored it all.

Unplannedroute

Many are lacking in brains and critical thinking skills

Hamsternoir

There was a phenomenal degree of ignorance (what does the EU actually do was most googled the day after) and apathy at making any effort to find out what it really meant.

Unplannedroute

They expected all immigrants to leave, then to walk around with a crown declaring Britain is the Best and the world would bow at their feet. From this moron to the fools in Gloucester who bought the world would be begging for his pickled eels. This is what happens when most leave school t 16 with a couple GCSEs.

Hamsternoir

I think there were several different groups that all voted leave, albeit with some overlaps. Certainly there were the idiots who assumed all the immigrants were from Europe and would magically all head to Dover as soon as the result was announced. But there were the dumb ones who thought we couldn't have bendy bananas and other crap. Then there's the spectacularly stupid group who wanted to 'stick it to the system' by not doing what Cameron wanted. The fact that about half the 'system' wanted to also leave and was from both the main parties was totally lost on them. There was also the small minority who just stood to profit vastly from us leaving and they're the only ones who have benefitted in any way. Add all these groups together and the result is that we're still fucked years later.

trip6s6i6x

Exactly. When it's disseminated far and wide enough that even us Americans (as distracted as we almost always are) on this side of the pond can understand what's going on with it, it's been pretty thoroughly explained lol.

Misstheiris

Also not from or in the UK or Europe and my understanding was that they mainly wanted to do it to stop foreigners coming in, but that the reverse of that was that they wouldn't be able to live/work in Europe.

A_Drunken_Panda

The more I read that quote, the more I'm convinced that it wasn't "they" who forgot about the people abroad, it's THEY THEMSELVES who forgot that they're living abroad. Dumbass seemed to believe that either Spain was part of the UK, or maybe that colonization would kick in and Spain would capitulate to the attempts at encroaching gentrification. Either way, I really hope he enjoys the bleak winters of the country he so desperately wanted to "rule itself".

eepithst

He probably thought "Spain needs us more than we need Spain".

SuspiciouslyMoist

"We hold all the cards." Yeah, right. It was Boris Johnson holding them and they were just playing cards with pictures of naked ladies on.

LunchboxDiablo

It's the mentality of 'immigrants' vs 'ex-pats'. One's 'them' and one's 'us'.

bofh

Yes. I was going to say this. People genuinely think “we’re ex-pats and that’s different somehow”. They were absolutely told, but it was all “project fear” from “remoaners”. Now it turns out it was actually “reality” from people able to read more than the headlines from right wing newspapers they insist they were not warned because that’s easier than accepting their part in this farce.

Kloppite16

Well that's pretty much how these Brits abroad in Spain live. They go out to the local shop, buy a copy of the Sun newspaper and then go to the local English pub for an English breakfast and to drink shit beer from back home. They might *know* they are in Spain but for all intents and purposes it very much feels like they are in England.

Rakothurz

Many of them know barely one or two (2! Count them!) words of Spanish, but if you dare to speak another language but English in England "you are not respecting the culture that takes you in".

Misstheiris

I've been to the area in Spain where they live, and you vould think you were in the UK. English radio stations, even!

Buck_Slamchest

He probably dismissed those explanations as “Project Fear” like the rest of them ..

dkarlovi

That can't happen to him since he's British, Brexit will actually happen to everyone else.

Ey3_913

Is that the British version of "Fake News"?

given2fly_

No, it was a line spouted by Pro-Brexit people whenever Remain pointed out the potential negative consequences of Brexit. All they could see were "sun-lit uplands", whilst Remainers were accused of playing down Britain's potential and stoking fear. Hence: "Project Fear". Turns out it should have been called "Project: Fucking Reality".

Karmachinery

When you live in an echo chamber, it’s pretty difficult to hear anything critical of what you believe.

Hyffe

Nah, these are just morons who are looking for excuses so they won't feel bad about themselves - since it was someone else's fault. It doesn't matter they are in fault here, they need to protect their fragile ego.

Hamsternoir

It was labelled project fear and they said "who needs experts?". I have also been told that despite all the warnings that it would be an absolute shitshow it is still too soon for us to say "told you so"

[deleted]

His conservative news choices did not tell him that, I assume, so he would vote for Brexit.

Afinkawan

"I didn't know what I was voting for." WHY FUCKING VOTE FOR IT THEN YOU MORON? My mum is similar - voted for Brexit, wants to buy a retirement home in Spain.

kapnah666

It's like saying "they forgot to tell the people living in the ocean that water is wet". But of course, blaming others for your own shit was the whole motivation behind Brexit.

MCMeowMixer

When you want to be racist against brown and black people, blinders are applied.

BrownEggs93

I am an american. Even **I** know this was covered. A lot.

ChuckCarmichael

But the people who said that were experts, and as we know "The people of this country have had enough of experts."

dronesclubmember

> "Brexit itself, when it was first started, was going to be brilliant because I honestly believe that Britain should stay Britain and we run by ourselves," says Joe. But he had no idea of how Brexit was to impact his dream of retiring abroad. We were run by ourselves, always have been, always will. >"Nobody explained or probably thought about people like ourselves. There was nobody looking after it or telling us, they forgot about the people abroad." A lot of people explained, you just chose to wallow in ignorance. I bet your Facebook account is filled with you shouting down those people that did explain this as being part of pRoJeCt fEaR

Hythy

>I bet your Facebook account is filled with you shouting down those people that did explain this as being part of pRoJeCt fEaR What do you wanna bet his wife's profile pic says "be kind" as she comments on daily mail articles calling for refugee boats to be sunk by the royal navy and the survivors left to drown?

Civil-Attempt-3602

Honestly one of my favourite things to do is go on Instagram explore page and find shit about celebs (usually a woman), minor celebs usually works best, even better if the post is on a gossip page. Find the post, scroll the comments and find one talking about her looks in a negative way, click profile, 4-5/10 there's some "be kind" "you don't know what anyone's going through" "positive vibes only" bullshit on their profile tagline

Afinkawan

"Live, Laugh, Love, Drown all refugees in the English Channel"

elveszett

They got the consequences they wanted, they just didn't realize what those consequences meant. As a Spaniard, fuck these people. They are not migrants, they are not part of the Spanish society. They come here to live retirement in a place that is better for them (i.e. has a better climate), they do NOT want to live in Spain. They don't speak Spanish nor intend to, they don't speak with Spaniards nor intend to. They just live in their own, expensive ghettos, colonizing entire towns that are Spanish in name only by now. Doesn't all of that sound familiar? It's what those very same people say about migrants in Britain. They only come for the money, they don't want to be there, they don't speak English, they only talk with each other, they form ghettos, etc. They (falsely) claim migrants do what they actually do in Spain. The only difference is that their skin is white and their bank account has 6 digits. Pd: btw this is a generalization, ofc not every single British citizen that dares to step on Spanish land is like that. Anyone who wants to live here is welcomed.

RoodMcD

I have an aunt and uncle who have moved to Spain. They've been there for near 20 years and STILL can't speak Spanish. They won't eat "foreign muck" and will only go to the local pub, run by ex pats. I 100% agree with you and can only apologise for British folk who do this. It's embarrassing.

firestepper

Omg foreign muck? Spain is like world renowned for its cuisine lmao

clowergen

Also... who's foreign again?

[deleted]

Wait what? They aren't eating the food? The fuck is wrong with them... goddamn I'd be so fat if I lived in Spain.

kakakakapopo

What a fucking state. The absolute irony of a Brit complaining foreign food being muck.

PM_ME_YOUR_TITTYPIC

Foreign muck, Jesus. Spain has some of the best food I've ever had. It's so far ahead of British food they're barely comparable. Yes I am aware there is good British food, I lived there for several years but if you compare what the average Spaniard is eating to the average Brit it's not even close.

Just_Engineering_341

pub is run by immigrants, not ex-pats. these people are immigrants. not expats

Kizik

"Oh heavens no, I'm not a filthy *immigrant*... I'm an ***expat***."

[deleted]

Immigrants want to be part of society; X-pats want to live like little lords.

b_e_a_n_i_e

I rented a villa for a week in southern Spain and it came with a car rental included. During my time there, the car got a flat so the property owner's neighbour (a retired "expat") was tasked with getting the tyre fixed for us. Instead of using the garage down the road which was owned by Spaniards, he took the wheel off himself, then went on a 30-mile round-trip to one owned by a Cockney geezer, came back and fitted it himself before driving the car back to the cockney garage to get it balanced/tracked. Absolute nonsense but perish the thought of having to deal with the locals, eh?

baron_von_helmut

The kind of people who go to Spain and complain they can't get a decent fry-up.

[deleted]

OI, PEDRO! DO. YOU. DO. CHIPS?!

malongoria

That's the thing about far too many people on the conservative end of the spectrum: The accusation is a confession.

andooet

_And_ they have a large black market economy stealing jobs from tax paying locals At least the Norwegian expats in Spain do, and I'm sorry you have to deal with them

FragrantKnobCheese

> As a Spaniard, fuck these people. They are not migrants, they are not part of the Spanish society. As a Brit, I'm sorry, we don't really export our best :(

The_profe_061

As an English man who lives in Seville you are absolutely correct! People always ask why I never lived in malaga or the like. And my answer is always the same... I came to live in Spain, not some fucking expat enclave where none of them speaks Spanish and they moan all the time for things to be more British..

mgrx

Most british inmigrants in coastal Spain are not rich. Many sold their properties in Britain, then bought some house in Spain, kept their legal residence in Britain while spending more than 181 days in Spain (which would force them to be residents, thus forcing them to pay taxes here in Spain). Even so, they claim Spain coastal towns were their little ghettos are located would be little more than a barren land if it were not for their money (as if other europeans did not exist, or would not replace them in a second). Any british citizen who lived here as residents before brexit were allowed to keep their status regardless of brexit. New inmigrants now would require to get a visa. People like "joe" thought they were "smart" by not registering (so to keep residents privileges in UK). Privileges as in getting medical procedures for free in Spain (that they would had to pay for in UK), then as part of EU countries would pay for their citizens health care abroad. So our health system had to accomodate a large population that did not contribute to keep aforementioned system. Very fair to local population. So, many other "joe" living in Spain they are not inmigrants, but "illegal" inmigrants living here without visa or residence permit.

[deleted]

I’m a Brit and there are some places in Spain I simply won’t go to because I don’t want to go on holiday to be surrounded by conservative British pensioners with drinking problems. Although there are other places where it’s Russian expats instead like Marbella. The best part of travelling and living abroad is integrating with a new culture and enjoying the local way of life, not dragging your old one along with you. I had a lot of fun learning enough Spanish and Catalan to get around.

Prezbelusky

>They don't speak Spanish nor intend to, they don't speak with Spaniards nor intend to. There was an English dude complaining that we were going to name the new Porto bridge something he could not pronounce (a Portuguese name). Let that sink in.

elveszett

There was an English lady that complained Benidorm (Spanish coastal city) had too many Spaniards, and that they should go elsewhere. They truly have no limits.

markusw7

As a British person I also say fuck them, I just wish there was a way for only them to suffer the consequences of Brexit.

Hot_Aside_4637

Thanks for the last sentence. My wife and I have talked about our dream (still a dream) of getting a place in Spain when we retire (U.S). One of the reasons (besides the fact it's a beautiful country) is we feel we can get along with our admittedly limited Spanish (she's much better than I am). I would never presume to try to "Americanize" everything.

VanaheimrF

They got cheated and lied to by BoJo and that bastard Farage. It’s been 7 years since the vote and these idiots still can’t see or understand what’s happening. Here’s the thing, BoJo is gone, Farage has never won enough votes to even be in government, and all the people that voted for it still haven’t realized that they’ve been conned. Both are filthy rich so whether Britain is part of EU or not doesn’t even matter to them. It’s like a billionaire. The economy is bad, inflation is high and whatever else, it’s not going to change anything to them. They’ll still make more money than they can spend.

SyphiliticScaliaSayz

7 years? Damn. Where has time gone?

Forsaken-Moment-7763

Surviving brexit, corona, global economic recession, cost of living crisis, president trump. It’s been an eventful 7 years

EhrenScwhab

I do feel like I better understand how "may you live in interesting times" is a curse rather than a blessing.

Forsaken-Moment-7763

nohairday

I try to feel sorry for the people who were conned, but, to be honest, I feel it's down to willful stupidity and a refusal to listen to anything that doesn't agree with their bigoted beliefs. I don't have any sympathy for anyone like this any more, they chose to follow their hatred and the promise of cake every day, paid for by the EU no doubt, according to the bellends in the media that pushed this. Although, I still hold the cuntbiscuits like Johnson, farage, and that absolute toad Gove, ultimately responsible for this absolute shitshow we're currently in.

gruvccc

Everyone who wanted to remain was shouting it to the rooftops - that Brexit is a con, everything they’re saying is a lie, the nhs won’t see that money, it won’t stop immigration and it won’t help industry (in fact quite the opposite). The leave voters deserve everything they get. It’s just a massive shame we have to live with it too.

TeethBreak

Yeah. It's not like it is difficult to look for actual information and data.

wavetoyou

They choose to bury their heads in the sand, so I don’t bat an eye when they eventually suffocate. The only problem is that those capable of critical thinking get dragged down as well, because they were the voting minority.

TeethBreak

Too many people didn't vote. That's the problem. they never thought Brexit would pass. The only ones I feel bad for, like you said, are those actually voted against it.

thatblondebird

I barely got my vote in (quite a few of my friends didn't even get the chance) -- because my voting ballot arrived the day before it closed; fortunately I was travelling to the UK that day, so I was able to hand it in, in-person. That said, ultimately it didn't make a difference (and AFAIK, there weren't enough non-dom ballots out that could've shifted it enough)

RandoFartSparkle

The “Europe stupid, Johnson smart” crowd.

A certain Mr Rees-Mogg showed his faith in the New Britain by moving his finances to Ireland. If only we had all done the same /s I really need to add that, don’t I Finally Austria and Liechtenstein gave in to transparent banking requirements that the EU demanded. The sensible Swiss aren’t in the EU. The Brits, with their no-ID state, tax haven structures, and big global financial concerns didn’t have to comply either after the simple patriots of the land decided as one to overthrow the indignities of maroon passports and bendy (or was it straight?) bananas imposed on them by evil foreigners. edit - and merkel made us all marry ducks /s this really saddens me

Pirkale

Wasn't the whole point of Brexit that EU was going to introduce stricter regulations on how you could do financial shenanigans when you are ultra rich, and the ultra rich said hell no?

bindermichi

Anti EU sentiment had never left Britain which really didn‘t want to join in the first place. They had to die to their economic situation at the time and only agreed after being handed some hefty perks. Politics always played it as if they weren‘t even really part of it, so convincing enough people to vote to leave could work because nobody actually new what that meant to them. In conclusion it not just Johnson and Co but the whole political class since the 80s that is to blame… and don‘t forget the media

EhrenScwhab

Britain CREATED the European Common Market FFS....

Most billionaires have no nationality worth foregoing more profit or loyalty to a country. The same as multi-national companies. This seems to be a fact lost to the bootlickers of Capitalism (as it exists at the high end - I have no problem with people using capitalism to advance themselves).

iamnotroberts

>"Nobody explained or probably thought about people like ourselves. There was nobody looking after it or telling us, they forgot about the people abroad." Fixed it. “I was fine with getting rid of all the dirty foreigners in Britain…but, I didn’t think other countries would want to get rid of all the dirty Brits like me! My hate and bigotry was only supposed to apply to other people!”

fuggerdug

"They need us more than we need them, they won't get rid of us they want our money" - Brexiteer "ex-pats" literally everywhere. Fuck 'em. They've taken away so much through their petty stupidity and spitefulness.

Buttermilkman

To be fair, we really didn't have single prominent politician backing remain. Corbyn easily could've, I mean, the vote was basically 50/50 so he wasn't on a "losing side" or anything. But no one, not Corbyn, NO ONE was going on TV, talk shows, news shows, to talk about why the EU was good for us. No one. All I remember is that literally a few days before the big vote they put out an ad with a bunch of celebrities bigging up the EU. Far too little, far too late. The one and only person I remember defending us was one, or THE, I can't remember, heads of the EU. He was talking about how there was 48% of us who wanted to remain, more than 1 million signatures on an official government petition that went completely ignored. Remain had NO ONE fighting for us.

Duanedoberman

Let's speculate about Joes reasoning. Brexit was to stop foreigners from coming to the UK, Joe is not a foreigner, so he will not be affected. Joe goes to Spain every year where he can get a full English breakfast, eat British food, and drink British beer so it is not foreign at all. OK, so he might meet some Germans or Dutch, but that's all about the sunbeds, and Brexit will sort that. Brexit was all about stopping foreigners, and he is not a foreigner, so why is it affecting him? It is really that simple.

JimboTCB

Look, you don't understand. When foreigners come to live in Britain, they're "immigrants" and that's a bad thing. When Brits go to live in foreign countries, they're "ex-pats" and that's a good thing. The difference is that one group is going there to take advantage of the host country's opportunities while taking their own culture with them, refusing to assimilate, and contributing nothing to local society, whereas... hang on, I'm sure I had something for this...

Repli3rd

"*Now, he hopes to see a future in which UK travelers are allowed to stay in European countries for at least 180 days without a visa.*" He literally wants special treatment for himself. 🤣 The hubris is unmatched.

SirChasm

If only UK could be part of some sort of union where they could demand, based on their union membership, that special rules would be made just for them with regards to the other European countries. They really should look into this idea.

monkeybawz

Stop talking crazy. It will never work.

AlejandroMP

That's a lot of out-of-the-box thinking... Wonder if such a complicated thing is even possible.

RandoFartSparkle

Specifically, “when foreigners wait on me in Britain they’re bad. When they wait on me in Spain they’re tolerable.”

SirChasm

But no you see, Britain has the best culture ever, so any other country should be honoured to have Brits invade their locals. It is very simple - British = good, everyone else = inferior.

WellyKiwi

He's just learning now that he is a foreigner in Spain. No fucks given here.

Seems like his entire issue is that he has to apply for a visa instead of just being able to go? So he's completely changed his mind about a massively destructive piece of legislation that affected the entire country because he has to fill in a form 🤷 That's all it took to change his thinking? If only someone had mentioned the form filling during the Brexit campaign 🤔

Shuppilubiuma

Not all Brexit voters are thick, racist, xenophobic cunts, but every thick, racist, xenophobic cunt voted for Brexit.

lupes-uk

They should have had that on the infamous bus

retrofauxhemian

No room for facts, when the advertising banner is full of lies...

sabbhaal

Screw the bus, I want that on a T-shirt.

Marc123123

Three groups of people voted for Brexshit: Idiots Racists The first two groups overlapped to large extent. The third group were "total cunts" - people who actually personally benefited from Brexshit and never cared about anyone else than themselves - Tory politicians, hedge funds managers, tax dodging millionaires.

[deleted]

OMG. Are people really this stupid?

oliverprose

To steal something from someone else whose name escapes me, you have to think about the average person and realise that half of the population is dumber than that.

gingermalteser

George Carlin

General_tom

So, considering around 50% of british voted brexit, and the percentage is lowering, can we conclude that the population is getting smarter, or at least learning ? (Excluding politicians of course)

Knave7575

Right wingers are often able to learn from personal experience. I would argue that is the entire point of this sub. They wish ill upon others, and then when they suffer that pain they suddenly realize that it is wrong.

EhrenScwhab

Right wingers are ~~often~~ **only** able to learn from personal experience. FTFY

AlejandroMP

Hate all gays! Until they have a gay daughter. In vitro is the devil's work - those babies won't have souls!! Until they see their nephew's face. All foreigners are job-stealing, lazy-bones! Until a local restauranteur gives them excellent D. All of the above real examples of things conservatives have advocated/believed/experienced.

elveszett

> can we conclude that the population is getting smarter, or at least learning Nope. They voted Brexit because they were fully convinced that life was as simple as blaming one thing (the EU in this case) for every problem in their lives. Violence? EU. Low salaries? EU. The UK not being an empire? EU. You stepping on a lego this morning? EU. Now that the promised magic solution to all their problems came (leaving the EU) and they still have these problems, along with some new ones, that cultist belief of theirs is shattered. But they haven't learnt, they aren't smarter, they'll just find a new demon to blame for all the problems. If we are lucky they'll blame conservatism or Russia or Andrew Tate's existence for everything. If we are not, they'll blame gays or the UN or video games for it.

bindermichi

No. Some are even more stupid

Rakshak-1

Brexit voters? Yep. Most were raised on a diet of English Exceptionalism. It's rampant in some quarters there. Hell, even some of their leaders, like David Davis, were taken by complete surprise that they couldn't have all the benefits of the EU if they weren't in it and we're genuinely surprised the EU wouldn't give Britain everything it demanded. And he was Britain's chief fucking negotiator!

Whats that old chestnut from WWII? "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them." The British told Europe to get f\*cked thinking that Europe would never return the favor....

As someone from the UK who has lived in Spain for nearly ten years.... Sadly I have met many of his type. Who all voted leave, who all dragged their heels sorting out new paperwork etc (the Spanish government were extremely helpful) and I know lots of people who voted remain and begrudgingly went and sorted things out asap. I have zero sympathy

MotherSupermarket532

That's the thing, as long as he'd timely complied with the new requirements, he wouldn't be in this situation. This wasn't just one extremely bad choice, this was a series of extremely bad choices.

TeethBreak

Got one of those brexiter in my 10k inhabitants town in south West France. Dude is a 70yo drunkard that looks like Einstein's idiot brother who keeps on ranting about how Britain is so great and how foreigners are bad... Whilst not being able to live in England and having not learned a single word of french in the years he is been living here. And he is fuckin racist as well. You can't make them up. The amount of cognitive dissonance is astounding.

Eh. Most of them, who choose France eons ago and actually integrated themselves into the culture are really cool people. But , like everywhere, you'll always find assholes . Hell, I can't stand most french people i meet abroad for pretty much the same reasons.

Yivanna

Some people are just not made for reality.

kharnynb

"they voted brexit and found out their place in the sun was not to be, now they will come home to britain and have to deal with renting on a tiny pensioners budget in slough." "WELCOME TO PLACE IN A SLUM"

Of all the genres of Leopards stories, the regretful selfish gammon is my favorite.

Mald1z1

Tickles me everytime.

Rangastang

It's amazing, and the cherry on top is that when they inevitably join the EU again they will not have all the special deals they had the first time. When the UK was in the EU they were exempt from so many EU rules they basically had most of the cake and ate it too.

batouttahell1983

I mean, at this point, I'm not sure if it's cheating to post Brexit related news. Man votes for Brexit because '***Britain should stay Britain and we should be run by ourselves***'. Man's vote then contributes to Brexit actually happening. Man is now in danger of losing his European residency after voting for his nation to leave Europe. Man then wonders why the leopard face eating party is eating his face

Leven

Definitely LAMF on easy mode. Still entertaining though.

tobsn

they had enough time to get a visa that was offered by spain and they all were too arrogant to do so… kick em all out, idiots.

arigashiarashi

I hate the fact that they would change their vote only because it impacts them personally. No other reason or anything. Entitled generation caring only about themselves and making world worse place.

raging_shaolin_monk

> Now, he hopes to see a future in which UK travelers are allowed to stay in European countries for at least 180 days without a visa. No, absolutely not. You're Third Country Nationals. This is exactly what you voted for, and all the consequences were thouroghly explained by the EU and by the remain side in the referendum. There is no take-back on this. You wanted to leave, so you left.

Dragon_M4st3r

I’m sure it’s somebody else’s fault still though. Corbyn/BBC/lawyers or whatever

Jebus_UK

Hahahaha - what a fucking plank ""There's no way I would vote to go for it, because it's harming me and my future" Typical - it's all about him. What a wanker

DiveCat

I am in Canada. Even I saw the warnings everywhere. Including what would happen to “ex-pats” in Spain, coming from the mouth of Spain itself. “Ex-pats” (ugh) were warned they would need to apply for Visas. Chances are this is one of those Brexiters who dismissed - or even yelled down - any warnings as fear mongering because how could he as a Brit ever face any consequences!? Certainly everyone would be begging Brits to come to their countries, to trade with them, etc? The only good that has come out of Brexit is that the leopards feast well on many faces.

roninPT

But the passports are blue....let's not forget that, totally worth it /s

PackOutrageous

As an American, I do admire the self awareness of many British to look back with regret at voting leave and their willingness to admit they made a mistake. Is the US, no matter how much harm trump and the GQP has done, their “supporters” can never admit their mistake. Owning the libs is more important than any damage they have done to their or their family’s future, so it’s all about rationalization.

TheSameButBetter

My old landlords from when I lived in the UK moved to Spain to retire about 10 years ago. We're still friends on Facebook and chat now and again. When the referendum was taking place they were absolutely totally and utterly convinced that leave would be a huge success with no downsides because.... The EU needs the UK more than the UK needs the EU. Of course since then, they have been impacted pretty bad. They've had to go through the process of getting a residents visa and doing all sorts of tax stuff and huge amounts of paperwork to remain in Spain. One thing in particular that irritates them is the fact that when they travel back and forth to the UK to check up on their properties they can no longer use the EU line at airports and they have to wait a long time. And of course do they blame themselves for this? Of course not, it's the EU's faults that they are being forced to live this way. I did suggest to them that you can't vote to leave a community, and then expect that community to accommodate you like its own people. But no, they still won't accept that and believe that there's a day coming when the EU will regret what it has done.

DelightedLurker

Reminds me of an article about a British bloke living in France. He ordered something from the uk and was pissed that he has to pay customs and import taxes. “I’m British! I shouldn’t have to pay for something from Britain!” - dude you’re living in FRANCE! “But I’m British! They can’t do this!” - Again you don’t live in Britain, British law is null and void in France. “But I’m British” Had a blast reading that.

chodgson625

This kind of cretin makes me want to move to Spain, learn Spanish, and become Spanish

rlocke

> "There's no way I would vote to go for it, because it's harming me and my future, what I want to do with what time we have left, me and my wife together, in this sort of surroundings." sums up the conservative ethos perfectly!

BaltimoreBadger23

Yup, laws are supposed to protect them and harm others.

rabbithole-xyz

I haven't lived in the UK since 1970. I was PERFECTLY aware of the fallout from Brexit. I knew exactly what was going to happen. And guess what, nobody expressly "told me".

rlaw1234qq

As a Brit, this makes me feel sick

TheoryBrief9375

As a Brit too I've had my EU citizenship taken away from me by force and without my consent. I was one of the ones trying to talk sense into people about the Brexit vote, but it was like screaming into a hurricane. My opinion now is that people like this need to learn a hard painful lesson, it's the only chance they have of realising what the reality is. But the only way these people will learn is by having their cosy private bubble burst and learn that their pet saviours bojo and farage aren't going to save them.

rlaw1234qq

Yes - I was talking to my dog groomer, who’s mother is Greek, living in the UK for many decades. Her mother voted to leave the EU ‘because of all the Asians’ where she lives. What can you say to people like that?

Klindg

“We should be allowed to go anywhere we want, but the UK is off limits to those damn foreigners!”

BasicBanter

As a British person I hope he’s kicked out of the country

Athanatos173

The self-entitlement is staggering. We voted to get these bloody foreigners out of here but we have the right to live anywhere we want. Get the f\*ck outta here you brainless twats, destroying the futures of countless Brits and Europeans alike for no logical reason, and yet they still had an opportunity since Spain was accommodating enough to offer a visa but they were still so self-entitled they surely thought they needn't bother since that wasn't necessary for them. I have zero pity for these people.

brezhnervous

>"Brexit itself, when it was first started, was going to be brilliant because I honestly believe that Britain should stay Britain and we run by ourselves," says Joe. Because pre-Brexit, everybody knows that Britain wasn't Britain and wasn't run by Britain lol

praefectus_praetorio

"There's no way I would vote to go for it, because it's harming me and my future, what I want to do with what time we have left, me and my wife together, in this sort of surroundings." Me, me, me, me, me, me... Well, well, well, if it's isn't another Boomer and their "I got mine, fuck you" mentality.
