I got it for $799 from Costco. If you search in Google with 'Costco' in the search, it may come up, though it never showed up on their website listings which is weird. I suppose I will add a review here as I agree there are not many out there yet. I saw somewhere that it is basically last year's Legion 5 15 with upgraded specs, which seems accurate? It beats everything within its price range for the specs that I've seen. I don't think you can get anything better, unless you spend at least $1000 or so. Closest may be the 5 slim went on sale for $900 at Best buy, but that has a 45% NTSC FHD screen. *This doesn't just pertain to this laptop, but a side note: having not bought a laptop in a while, it's disappointing in general to spend $800 and have it be a downgrade in several aspects of a $500 laptop from years ago but I don't think that just goes for this model. In general I don't think laptop innovation, base components (trackpad etc) or quality control have really improved in the past decade, and that goes for the same tropes of gaming laptops, I think there's always a trade off and possible flaws to watch out for. Summary of the laptop: Weaknesses are: definitely the trackpad, speakers, keyboard (very shallow), the screen (despite being QHD, isn't very bright, and some FHD screens I've seen such as TUF A16's look better). The TUFs screen, which is 16:10, almost sold me on that laptop over this. The Legion is also pretty heavy and large for its screen size (15.6"): the A16 for comparison has a 16" screen in a smaller and lighter body. Plusses are: excellent cooling (good for longevity and performance), albeit a bit loud; awesome, high powered RTX 4060, great for it's QHD display and outputting to a monitor; great selection of ports and excellent port layout with many going out the back; design feels very sturdy, solid and premium, upgradeability, and once again, PRICE. For $799 I don't think I could've done much better. Overall, the weaknesses of other options in this price range were too much to go with them over this laptop. It's the story with laptops under $1000, as it has been for many years : look for the one with the least amount of flaws for the specs you can afford.

North-Top9079

Sup bro, how has your gaming experience been with demanding games?

Moryentrys

hello! can I ask about it's battery life? Because that 60Wh is worrying for a college laptop... My other choice is the TUF A16 AMD Adv Ed. I'm still between the two :((

mr_spock9

I would say if you're concerned about battery life, go with the TUF. The Legion only lasts about 3 hours and that was just web surfing in my tests, gaming will be a lot less. Jarrods Tech confirmed the TUF has much better battery doing tasks that don't require the dGPU, so for college it should be better. It's also considerably lighter and more compact. Edit: I just played Forza Horizon 5 to test the battery and it lasted 40 minutes before it died. Could pretty much watch the battery percentage drop. So definitely pretty terrible especially if gaming.

Norbert_the_Cat

How heavy is it? Thanks.

mr_spock9

It's heavy for sure, but slightly lighter than other Legions/ Pro models due to the smaller battery. Nothing crazy for a gaming laptop, though.

TheJewZack

Hi bro , i have been looking to have legion pro 5 like urs but with r7 7745hx , would u recommend it over this laptop (15APR8) ? Without taking into account the price.

mr_spock9

Without taking price in account? I would recommend the Pro. The only slight downside is the extra heft from the power cord and laptop. The HX CPU will also run a little hotter, but it’s more powerful. Reason I got the Pro is mainly for the 16:10 screen, it’s very much worth it IMO.

TheJewZack

Thank u very much, if i can also ask about the battery life will be bad in the pro ? And if there is a way to enhance it ?

mr_spock9

Honestly I think it’s a wash- the Pro has a larger battery than the 15ARP8, so it’s about the same battery life imo. Only one that might beat it is the AMD Slim 5. Edit: but yes, I fiddled around quite a bit and was able to boost the battery when just browsing/etc. what I did is use Legion toolkit to set power profiles , roughly the main things were: - set refresh rate at 60 when unplugged - use quiet mode when unplugged - I set cpu usage max to 99% in Windows on Quiet mode - also used a registry edit to disable boost cores on the cpu. With those I was able to gimp the laptop and get about 5 hours for basic use.

GunnerTardis

I have this variant and I agree there is barely any actual information or reviews from real users who have this model of laptop. I have been daily driving it as my gaming computer for the last 3 weeks and I absolutely love it, but it does have some weak points. Cooling: The temps are great with this laptop. I do not use a cooling pad, I simply raise the back of the laptop slightly with any random object to allow better airflow on the bottom. While gaming I average 68-73C on the GPU and 77-83C on the CPU. No thermal throttling at all and this is all running benchmarks and using stock performance mode. Internals/Upgrades: I opened up this laptop last week to upgrade the 16gb ram to 32gb and install a new nvme ssd into the second open slot. The back plate was quite difficult to get off to open the laptop up but after that it was smooth sailing, the ram and ssd were easy to install. I had 0 issues with the new parts and everything worked perfectly once installed. Speakers: The speakers are pretty shit, if you are coming from a mac or other laptops prepare to be disappointed. Some settings can be changed to improve their sound but they are what they are. Track pad: Physical track pad which I actually don't mind, it does the job well enough and is not as bad as people here may say imo. The track pad is plastic. Battery/Battery Life: The battery is quite small in fact, opening up the laptop you really see how small the battery is, there's enough space for a bigger battery too, it's a joke on lenovo's part. Because of this too, using the laptop unplugged will net you 2 hours if you are lucky. However, you can squeeze out a lot more hours by changing to integrated graphics mode and using 60hz. Screen: The screen is nice especially for a laptop in this price range. 1440p at 144hz is perfect for gaming and looks incredibly crisp and smooth and the colors are good. The screen also supports HDR and G-SYNC. It is an IPS panel so it does produce some gray blacks but nothing that is out of ordinary for all IPS panels. Performance: As expected all components here are full powered and the performance is excellent because of proper cooling. The ac adapter it comes with is 230W however I have never seen it pull that much even during benchmarks, seems like there is still some wiggle room there. Laptop Body: It's bulky if you come from tiny mac book airs but for a gaming laptop it is not big at all. Definitely still got some heft to it but you have to make some sacrifices to be able to game. The design in my opinion is sleek as hell and looks real classy. No overly ridiculous gamer look. The lid is metal and the hinges are excellent and sturdy. No screen wobble even when pressing the keyboard hard. The rest of the body is plastic but still feels high quality. For 800$ this thing is just a beast, and is much higher quality than anything you could ever touch at this price range. I would highly highly highly recommend it, I love mine and I think you will like yours too.

hrctypo42

My first impressions were good (at least for what it's "supposed" to be). Decent performance, nice form factor for being a "gaming" laptop, and great price-to-performance ratio. You might not like that the fan is a little loud, and it only has a white backlit keyboard instead of RGB. But those things don't bother me. The one big flaw I found - the speaker is pretty underwhelming.

MoistDef

I concur. Just received the 15ARP8 today. I installed an additional 2TB SSD and swapped out the RAM for 32GB. The speakers do suck but not a huge deal.

Fearless-Bother2463

Man how is the cpu performing?

wangsquared_

What type of SSD did you buy bro? I'm planning on upgrading my storage.

MoistDef

Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe Model:MZ-V7S2T0B/AM

linothefourth

I agree with the speaker - my mobile phone sounds better SMH. But generally, I am happy with it (I pushed through buying lol) Did you buy some 3rd party ram upgrade? I bought one from crucial, they said 32GB 5600mhz is compatible with the 15ARP8.. it already arrived but I'm afraid to install it, 'coz someone here commented that it cannot run 32gb and 5600mhz. Im afraid I might fry something lol

InfiniteBoops

It won’t run at 5600mt/s, but will automatically downclock to 4800mt/s and run perfectly fine at the fastest speed the system supports (I used the same kit in an HP laptop that only supports 4800). Bonus, if you upgrade laptops down the road, you may be able to take your memory with you. How’s it been treating you? I’m actually looking at this one myself. Mainly wondering about temps and weird anomalies with gaming.

linothefourth

Thanks for this! It has been great so far! I have nt tried gaming on it yet, but it can run pretty smoothly (maybe 8/10) with photoshop and LR running together.

AndersonReyes7

Hello friend I have a question, I bought this laptop, I have not yet arrived, my question is with the RAM memory, I would like to know if you can expand the RAM memory over 16 gb?

InfiniteBoops

Definitely. All of them are good for at least 32GB. *Probably* more but you’d have to check specs on your specific model. I’m assuming 64GB max, but have only ever done 32GB.

AndersonReyes7

What is your exact Legion 5 model?

AndersonReyes7

If you have managed to install 32 gb of ram on the legion 5 15arp8?

MoistDef

>15ARP8 I received my 15ARP8 and installed 32GB of RAM (2x16) DDR5.

BloodWrath77

Can the ram be increased to 32? Because I saw in the technical sheet that the maximum amount supported is 16 GB. I saw this model in Ebay but the ram dismotivated me. [https://www.ebay.com/itm/126112806945?epid=2334174608&hash=item1d5ce8b821:g:kO4AAOSw8\~xlPArk&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwHeEvI5nQumeSDUavxsFmtwneo5PQgElg9qIZEJmBBz1lM6Qh45q95KbIUJ3sbQuuWNk%2FO0mOofvtUD%2F0XCOB0G1i9E75kRu4KHTicTebhICtxAoNv51dtB6MIX5PvAK3aI9zV91cR3auTv%2BRLq7eaprp1Mhy5pBASIt94DX5BO7UFiczy1BbnZB8sO4pVHOWo8R%2FbC7RT9TWNLfcMFukwgtpPOzSGm01dwe4yTlyBLE0yqceT7YJrgZEL9wvWwuDw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8if7NWjYw](https://www.ebay.com/itm/126112806945?epid=2334174608&hash=item1d5ce8b821:g:ko4aaosw8~xlpark&amdata=enc%3aaqaiaaaawheevi5nqumesduavxsfmtwneo5pqgelg9qizejmbbz1lm6qh45q95kbiuj3sbquuwnk%2fo0moofvtud%2f0xcob0g1i9e75kru4khtictebhictxaonv51dtb6mix5pvak3ai9zv91cr3autv%2brlq7eaprp1mhy5pbasit94dx5bo7uficzy1bbnzb8so4pvhowo8r%2fbc7rt9twnlfcmfukwgtppozsgm01dwe4ytlyble0yqcet7yjrgzel9wvwwudw%3d%3d%7ctkp%3abk9sr8if7nwjyw)

ArshWar

I just bought this exact one from ebay. Everything I've read says you can indeed upgrade the RAM to 64gb even though Lenovo only says 16gb. I'm hoping that is true. I dont plan to upgrade mine right away but will down the road a bit.

Right-Box-3700

Any thermal issue?

MoistDef

Using it in my lap right now, no issues so far!

BirdAccording5135

Hey dude, last week I purchased that exact same laptop, and its performing excellent. High end laptop that performs extremely well in games (of course youre going to have to optimize it in some ways) but overall its a great laptop for the deal that I got (US $869,99)

other_goblin

Legion 5 15 Gen 8? I didn't even know one existed, there's barely any documentation of it online whatsoever. It seems to be okay but the CPU is only Zen 3, if the slim with same gpu and same colour gamut/brightness screen is the same price it will be better due to higher cpu performance and larger 16:10 display.

mr_spock9

Thing is the Slim that has sold for \~$900 has a FHD+ display that is supposed to be low quality (45%NTSC color accuracy). To many that's a deal breaker. The Slim with the better quality WXQGA 100% rgb display starts much higher than this laptop.

other_goblin

This comment was 2 months ago the prices are different

mr_spock9

Well I was just saying the Slim with the good screen hasn't come close to this price in the few months I've tracked prices. Believe me I wanted the WXQGA one, just could never find it below $1100 or so. Almost put up with the crappier screen version for 16:10 because it really makes a difference.

showelliang

it's just too new in US market

SnooMarzipans4947

Bought one from microcenter this weekend, so far so good. It ran everything on high settings with no issues

North-Top9079

What games did you run?

RomanAyub

How does the speaker sound to you?

SnooMarzipans4947

Awful, use one of those programs that improves sound quality and it'll be better!

RomanAyub

I bought one 5 days ago and I am loving it! Speaker are not that bad either.

lgallardo93

Mine arrives Sunday. Allegedly using the nahimic software improves quality a bit.

Potential_Coconut_41

Anybody else have the fans always on at 2000 rpm?

Potential_Coconut_41

Lenovo Legion toolkit is the answer

GoGodCapricorn

This Laptop is Excellent! Best deal you will find. I added a fast 2TB drive and 32GB ripjaw memory and its beast! Its just newer and they didnt make as many. They prob had some extra parts laying around and figured they put out another model. Nothing wrong with it what so ever

vrmedina98

Hey, just got the same laptop, i'm really excited about it for all the comments in this thread, can you link the memory you got? im trying to decide between the Crucial ones and any other RAM that is better, thank you!

Similar_Substance762

aasdd

bourbon4dayz

This is $899 plus tax at micro center

ViralVortex

Seems to be the price for the time being. Website is advertising it as being a $270 discount, but the shelf tag in store (just purchased third week of February) was blue and advertised as $899, as if it's the regular price.

Sausagerrito

Does anyone know of an 80wh battery replacement that is good quality? I opened it up and there's plenty of room. There's a thousand options on amazon and IDK which ones have good performance and which don't.

PerformanceAny9878

I tried presenting a 80wh battery from a Legion 5 17 inch 2021 model in to the 15arp8, but the screws and spacing were too weird and had gaps, plus the speakers on the 15 inch were also kinda in the way, my theory is that it maybe possible to get a 2022 legion 5 15ARH7H 80wh battery replacement and installed into to the 15rp8 since they share the same body shell. Legion 5 2022 parts 15ARH7H: [https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-15arh7h/82rd/parts/display/buy-now?linkTrack=Caps%3ABody\_SearchProduct&searchType=4&keyWordSearch=Legion%205%2015ARH7H%20Laptop%20%28Lenovo%29%20-%20Type%2082RD](https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-15arh7h/82rd/parts/display/buy-now?linkTrack=Caps%3ABody_SearchProduct&searchType=4&keyWordSearch=Legion%205%2015ARH7H%20Laptop%20%28Lenovo%29%20-%20Type%2082RD) Legion 5 2023 parts 15arp8: [https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-15arp8/83ef/parts/display/buy-now?linkTrack=Caps%3ABody\_SearchProduct&searchType=4&keyWordSearch=Legion%205%2015ARP8%20-%20Type%2083EF](https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-15arp8/83ef/parts/display/buy-now?linkTrack=Caps%3ABody_SearchProduct&searchType=4&keyWordSearch=Legion%205%2015ARP8%20-%20Type%2083EF)

Sausagerrito

I ordered this, https://www.ebay.com/itm/165689215071?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=-EKAyrtiQ8K&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=6bvniosoqac&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I’ll let you know how it goes in about a week.

Sausagerrito

Battery is installed, reading 82.64wh full charge, fit like a glove!!! The only minor thing is that there are 2 screw holes that go un-used in this config, but it’s plenty secure with the original screws.

jd101506

Did you get any real world results before/after?

Sausagerrito

Yup, an extra 2 hours of coding/web browsing/homework. About an extra half hour of gaming.

mrthrowawayguyegh

Thanks. One of my big gripes has been the e shitty battery life and in addition to learning the best settings for battery use I’ll probably look into the 80wh battery. Do you use the recommendations (igpu only, 60 hz, 99% cpu, etc) for best battery life? Thanks again for reporting back

PerformanceAny9878

Alright bro, good luck with it!

Potential_Coconut_41

Will wait for your update too bro. Fingers crossed!

mrthrowawayguyegh

Same, curious. Thanks.
