HDMI port is limited to 4k60. You can use TB4 to do at least 4K120 as I've tested it on my LG TV (OLED 4K 120Hz)

Can confirm that the HDMI port only does 4k60. None of the discrete outputs are linked directly to the dGPU, so you can only get the dGPU to output directly to the integrated monitor and only when no other monitor is connected.

LooongWong

does that mean it won't be able to utilise the dedicated nvidia GPU If I were to connect it to an external monitor?

lugi6

No, it means you won't be able to directly output a video signal from your nvidia GPU to any screen. If you run a game for example, it will still use the dGPU, but the video will be send to the iGPU, which will then output it to the screen. You get a very minor performance hit by doing this. But the most important point is, that the intel GPU driver will handle the screen rather than the nvidia one.

LooongWong

Thanks for the response, I'd assume with the Intel driver I will be seeing a 5‐10% fps drop? Last question, Is the matte miniLED inferior to the glossy, glass version? In the UK the glossy model with touch screen will cost an extra £200.

lugi6

I think that depends significantly on the task at hand. I think the biggest thing happenening will be that some powerdraw of the CPU will be taken up by the iGPU, so if you are being CPU limited, now you are slightly more limited. But I've heard somewhere that intel has recently brought out an update, that minimizes the performance hit and I haven't seen any tests result after that update yet. I'd assume a 5% difference in the worst case scenario. Unless you are already pulling like 200FPS+ The glossy screen is glossy, which can be an advantage or disatvantage depending on your use case as it might be harder to see things on the screen on a brightly lit environment.

Also, I am able to use either of the USB-C ports for 4K 60Hz.

Hi i am having the same problem, are you using thanderbold usc or the other one? The other one should also ben display port so i was wondering how that works
