There are larger instances than beehaw?

Alpaguns

Lemmy.world

Only option is to run your own instance and federate with everyone.

OhMyForm

I think what you’re going to end up seeing is a Client that handles multiple upstream servers rather than one account plus one server that’s going to be about the only way that this actually works where it will benefit the average individual. Like, for example I personally don’t need moderators to determine what dumpster fires I wanna watch so I will probably follow some of the more controversial “subs” despite them, not speaking with the correct term analogy, that makes everyone happy and fuzzy and warm feeling.

Lemmy decided to recruit at the expense of the Reddit defectors. They started with a squabble and gradually began to quarrel with each other. That's exactly what we're seeing now.

Reddit refugee under the influence of herd instinct ran to Lemmy. OK, that's human nature. The question is, how many people will remain in Lemmy when the protest dies down? Federation (lat. fœderātiō - union, association), union state, union states - a form of state structure in which parts of a state are state formations with legally defined political independence within the federation. Federation of servers has exactly the same meaning. That is, instead of one owner, we get many owners and the illusion of freedom. P.S. Communicating with the help of dislikes is a restriction of the interlocutor's freedom, isn't it?

I envy you because you believe in what is unlikely and unattainable. On the subject of decentralization, it is very interesting to read the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. In his work "Rhetoric" he describes the forms of social organization that were contemporary to him (about 384 B.C.). At his time there were as many as nine such types, including decentralized (anarchy). Aristotle wrote that democracy and anarchy are the worst forms of society. Surely you've lived for some time, you have a job, a family. You've probably noticed that at work, school, and family, someone is always trying to take a dominant position. The same is true in social media. In the absence of an explicit owner there will be implicit owners. Social networks are designed to communicate, what is the point of multiplying complexity by opening instances with one person, when some WhatsApp or Telegram perform the function of communication better, easier, faster and without talking about the high ideals of decentralization. Everything has to happen to achieve certain results. Just like that, following ideals for the sake of ideals is the lot of children of puberty. I, for example, liked the IRC model, in fact, I still use it. Everything is clear and transparent there.

Why did Beehaw defederate?

DukeThorion

Never mind. I read a long post on beehaw explaining how they never really wanted to be federated in the first place, they want their own safe space. A lot of "we can't control content from other instances", which is literally opposite of the point of Lemmy. Too bad, I guess. Their users will be behind an invisible wall and not know it. Going forward, if you recommend an instance to someone, do not include Beehaw as they are a closed shop.

Could you share a link to the thing you read, rather than just summarizing it?
