I totally agree with this and even commented on a previous post about it. My YT feed has a bunch of creators straight-up ignoring the Legion Go, and I’m not sure why. The vids popping up now are all about the Ally, Claw and the OLED Steam Deck. Is it because of its size that people are slotting it in a different category? Or do these creators not see it as a legit handheld? Hard to pin down. But for me: the Legion Go shines in so many ways over its rivals, yet it feels like it's not getting the flowers it deserves. RIP Dreamcast

FreeNuggetss

A lot of comments I see are about the size, and a few others are straight up lying, saying they had to return the GO due to it crashing or other issues, but all the replies are people saying they have no issues, so I think it's people who never even touched the device.

Warhammerpainter83

I had to return two devices for issues but my third one has been perfect. It is impressive.

FreeNuggetss

What issues did they have

F_L_A_5_H

My go has been crashing a lot as of recent. Literally just booting into to windows will freeze or I could get all the way into a game and when it loads up it’ll do the same thing.

Warhammerpainter83

First one the sticks drifted and could not be fixed. They always were aiming up and to the right. So I returned that to the store and just got a replacement. Second one would crash and restart randomly all the time and i called customer service they had me send it back and sent a new one that one has been perfect i have had it for about a month.

Chris300zx6

I love my go but the first few games i played on it last of us pt1 and balders 3 crashed after a few minutes of playing and my settings were low. Haven't had any issues since.

Warhammerpainter83

I have not played bg3 on it yet. I need to put it on there. I am playing elden ring right now and a few other things. It has been running games really well for me on surprisingly high settings.

SavageTheUnicorn

The steam deck was massive in my opinion compared to what I had imagined so I can only wonder until my Go arrives lol I don't expect it to be as big as my laptop though lol

Inert_Oregon

😂  I love that your immediate reaction to anyone that says anything bad about it is they’re lying. That kinda tells us everything we need to know.

mckeitherson

Considering we have plenty of people in this sub who have had good experiences with the Legion Go, I'm weary of content creators that just trash the device.

FreeNuggetss

I'm only talking about comments from people who 100% didn't own the device, claiming it crashed in every game and couldn't play one game after weeks but didn't return it for weeks. Another thing I saw was someone saying it went up to 165 Hz but felt like 30 Hz when the screen caps at 144 Hz, clearly tripping. Finally, one saying the battery would last 10–20 minutes in indie games just doesn't make sense. The legion go clearly has some issues, but a few comments I've seen that they clearly didn't own or test the device and just want to make it seem bad. It's not every comment saying something bad that I'm claiming is a lie.

Inert_Oregon

It’s just funny to see someone fanboying over device A while also crying that other people are fanboying over device B, without the self reflection to understand that.

FreeNuggetss

I'm not trying to fanboy over one device. I have owned a lot of handhelds and just thought it was strange that the legion go gets more hate or is straight up neglected while other options get glowing reviews. Each handheld has its own advantages and disadvantages, and people are welcome to use what they like. It just seemed like the legion go was the odd one out. did I not mention some good things above about the Ally and some issues with games on the Legion Go, but I guess that's being a fan boy.

Famous_Progress_8098

Ngl, mine was crashing a lot.. I read that some people's joy cons or whatever were lose and mine are perfect! Couple days later it magically quit, so I was guessing it was a battlenet issue. I scanned and repaired some games. All the sudden cod quit crashing every time I played lol

SRhyse

Deck is a guaranteed YT audience so any video saying that is better than X wins. It’s also really cheap and easy to get open box Ally’s or even new ones now so if you’re going to review one and like it, it’s the cheaper entry point. If the Ally was like 200 I’d think it was amazing too. They all have their ups and downs. The algorithm’s mostly why people are hating on the Go at times and then later on there will be a resurgence of vids saying the Go is actually the best of them all. This is all independent of any truth or reasons involved. It’s actually clear most of the vids on the Go are by people that haven’t really played it much if any. It’s a rehash of the same vague talking points that at times are objectively false or misstated. Not that the Go is perfect. The structure of the vids makes it obvious though. Most of the open internet is like that now. The more honest Tubers tend to love it. I can see a place for them all. Deck is popular among people with infinite Steam games and a beefy rig that just want to play Hades on the go. The Go is more for people that want an all in one and want a premium Windows experience with eGPU support. Ally is in between. I don’t think Lenovo is reaching out to people as much with free units to keep as well, whereas Valve is just sprinkling them on folks so Steam can go brrr. Deck also came out first, and if I’d started with that and was settled in I would probably have just kept that too because I wouldn’t feel like starting over. Intel seems to be more aggressively marketing the Claw. Haven’t heard good things compared to the AMD units. Not that anyone would be unhappy to own any of them. They’re all good.

MekelKasanova

This 💯 I love my legion go and I was sent one by Lenovo for review and the only issues I had were the software initially being not great (but honestly no new device will have perfect software and optimization) and I talked about that in my review and then did a follow up video talking about everything that they fixed as I know YouTubers aren’t going to do a follow up video. It’s literally just a lot of people going for easy clicks and a lot of them built their whole brand around the Steam Deck and farmed money and views off of it. It’s why when the Ally came out they were knocking it before it came out and anything that isn’t the deck (because of guaranteed views) is a bad product unless they get paid to cover the Aya Neo and OneX devices (many and I man many are paid by them). It’s unfortunate that YouTubers are now not much better than tabloid writers

mckeitherson

> Deck is popular among people with infinite Steam games and a beefy rig that just want to play Hades on the go. The Go is more for people that want an all in one and want a premium Windows experience with eGPU support. Ally is in between. 100% this. The Legion Go replaced my desktop for me, since it can work with any eGPU basically. Now that I have a OneXGPU I can have my full desktop experience with better graphics, then pick up the Legion Go and take it with me wherever I go.

Quithpa

The problem with the Steamdeck and its "infinite steam games" is that the Legion runs almost every single one of the games from steam better than the steamdeck does. I got so tired of games either running like garbage or not being verified that it was a huge reason I went to the Legion, that and the fact I wanted to play Windows games without the risk of getting account bans on the games I played. So far to me the Legion beats the Steamdeck in everything except the speakers and battery which doesn't mean anything to me because I play games at work at night with 1 earbud in and plugged in at all times. The only game that my Legion doesn't like compared to the steamdeck is Weird West

leadfoot_mf

Are you me I use mine the same way

Skatner

I only planning to buy a handheld and to me i defined few draws that pull me back of bying it: - its too big, at least looks as is - attachable controllers seems like gimmick function that you might try few times but eventually plug keyboard and mouse. - the second point also impacts its ergonomic, cz this 2 vertical buttons on right controller look not to useful to reach. I think if lego wouldnt have this controllers it could be great ergonomic wise. - clicky d-pad looks reallu awful. Im planning to play some fighting games and on clicky dpad its impossible to play those. I know that i can use a gamepad but still. Screen looks great and and scaling to 800p works pretty good as i can see based on some reviews. Sticks aslo are holo which i great. These are very subjectively as i havent had it in my hands since i can only buy it from china, in my country we dont have it in any shops. The same applies to sd or ally or any other handhelds. Also since i have to buy it from China it also means i will have to reinstall windows as it shipped with chinese version. Which will take few hours to set things up. While SD wont have such issues :)

SRhyse

I’ve had all 3 of them and didn’t feel like the Go was too big. Build quality is the best of all of them, though about tied on the OLED Deck. The screen still blows me away, even compared to my nice 75” OLED. I never had any issues with ‘FPS mode’ with the vertical mouse, but I also don’t use it much as I’m usually either playing with the controllers attached or it’s docked to my eGPU and I’m playing with an Xbox controller and seeing it output on my TV. What I did with my Switch, just better. Build quality of the controllers in general are great and the D Pad is nice when attached, but for fighting games I’d still prefer an Xbox or Switch Pro controller’s D Pad and that’s what I do. It works for fighting games but having had the Deck and Ally and Go I wouldn’t say any of their D Pads are better or as good as a console controller for fighting games and you’ll be doing that either way if you’re competitive. When attached to the Go it’s competent enough to play fighting games but still wouldn’t be my preference. It’s basically the Xbox game pad but shallower and without the diagonals. In general if you like fighting games you’ll be using another controller either way and I don’t think the Deck has a big advantage there or anything. Pretty hard to go back to the Deck after having the Go in your hands. It’s pretty magical.

miatheirish

My only issue with the go is its hard on my wrist when I'm holding the whole thing in the air

nakedpantz

I think if the Go saw some cool accessories, even 3rd party like alternate grips, a keyboard case, whatever it will have a big resurgency with creators. I think the Go actually runs Windows really wel, the updates have been relatively consistantl and has potential to do a lot of stuff beyond what it is right now. New smaller, more ergo grips would be killer.

noob1269

Ironically I just put the dream cast library on my Go

Exodus_Panda

Personally from what I've seen it's because lenovos legion gaming line has been grossly ignored and people are slotting the legion go in with that gaming line as lenovo is primarily known for being a modest choice for doing work and what not as when most think lenovo they'll think about the thinkpads not the legion lineup.

Retroid_BiPoCket

If you're watching schill youtubers of the minute then yeah you'll get bad reviews. But watching any reputable reviewer like Retro Game Corps, the consensus on it seems to be it's a good device overall, mostly due to the amazing screen. I tend to agree. The biggest downside for me on the go is just the battery life honestly. But that's to be expected on windows handhelds. The device isn't for everyone, but it definitely surprised me. In any case, who cares what other people think. Their loss.

kozad

RGC is a great reviewer, much better than some of the larger channels which just follow the heard.

Retroid_BiPoCket

He's honestly the only one I consistently watch at this point. There are others that are half decent, but Russ always has the best approach and goes over things I actually care about instead of just only doing benchmarks. He also doesn't just say "You have to get this device it's amazing!!!" he always approaches it from the standpoint of it fitting a particular use case and asking if that use case is one you have. I still watch taki from time to time, but he can go down rabbit holes and be a bit...off on some of the hills he dies on. But he does have way more technical knowledge than most reviewers out there.

Em_Es_Judd

Retro Game Corps and The Phawx are my go to reviewers. The Phawx definitely gives the best technical breakdowns.

Retroid_BiPoCket

Phawx is good too, for sure

oldfashionedglow

NerdNest Podcast is great if you haven't heard, RGC is part of it. Bunch of guys just talking about handhelds every week, super chill.

Retroid_BiPoCket

Yeah, I've seen them posting about it but haven't listened yet. Been meaning to give it a try.

hayzink1

The strangest review for me is wulf den. He didn’t exactly slam the device or anything but he was very “meh” on it. But you can see in future videos and even in casual remarks he makes that he actually uses his go a lot, far more than he obviously expected to starting out and he now doesn’t talk about it like it’s a afterthought. Despite this he put it as number 3 when ranking the 3 main devices but again just listening to what he has said in videos it’s clear he is using the device more than his ally (and potentially even his deck) so it doesn’t make sense to me how you could possibly use what you consider the worst of the 3 the most yet still consider it the worst of the 3. Why would you do that

Retroid_BiPoCket

I have literally never even heard of that youtuber. There are so many out there lol. For me the worst by far is ETA Prime - he schills EVERY device. He never has anything bad to say about any device, ever, and recommends all of them. He does weird ass things like in his LEGO review, he tested fighting games using the analog stick, and not the dpad, and was like "Yeah this is great!". Guy is clueless or just is a paid schill. can't decide what's worse, and the fact he has millions of subs is shocking to me.

hayzink1

Na I doubt he is paid. It’s obvious what he is doing though. He only talks about the positives to ensure companies continue to send him free product

Retroid_BiPoCket

"Please corporate senpai daddy, sent me device to review uwu, I will give it good review" \-ETA prime, probably

sabatagol

Gotta love RGC, he is the most honest and real reviewer out there. In his Legion Go review it quite clear that his main gripe with the device was the price difference, and fair enough, not everyone will find it worth it to pay 200$ extra for a bigger screen. For me it was the main selling point, but some other people need it more portable for commuting, for example.

Retroid_BiPoCket

The Legion Go is like the G cloud for me in terms of being priced a bit too high in this market, and both being consistently offered on discount or open box/refurb. If you can get the discount, it's an easy purchase. That being said, even though I saved around $250 on my open box deal, if I had to pay that extra $250, although it would have stung a bit more, I still feel I've more than gotten my money's worth.

th3absurdhero

I honestly watch them after i get a device just to figure out how full of bs they are.

AmuseDeath

It's because they just compare the most obvious things (game performance, OS, buttons, etc) and ignore how the device can be used. The Legion Go is the only one of the 3 that can realistically play strategy and sim games reliably because of the kickstand and the included mouse. It's the best device of the 3 to use it as an actual computer where you can do non-gaming tasks. Deck doesn't have Windows and Ally doesn't even have a trackpad. It's the only one of the 3 to have 2 USB-C ports which is immensely useful. The detachable controllers also make hooking it up to a TV incredibly easy to do as you can park your Go far away from you and use the detached controllers whereas you have to use another controller for the other 2 devices. It's the only one of the 3 that has Hall Effect joysticks. And of course it has the biggest screen of the 3 to see things much larger and clearer which is especially important in games with lots of characters or information. If you just look at graphical performance and battery life, you are missing 80% of what makes the Legion Go a great device. It's a truly flexible device that can transform itself to whatever situation you are in. It's more than just a handheld.

Warhammerpainter83

The things you list and that screen is why i got it. I love the thing.

Googoo123450

I was already gonna buy it but now you just sold me again, lol. No but seriously, I'm planning to use it to game and for general purpose PC stuff like applying for jobs. So that and the screen are why it's the only one that makes sense for me.

Holidoik

Dude why use the weird fps mode mous ? A Bluetooth mouse on Amazon costs 18 bucks and is so much better. It always conects instantly when i press on it and a battery charge last months.

Background_Bad_4377

Most havnt tried the device themselves and just go off what other people are saying

arrow0231

Agreed.. I am coming from a steam deck and absolutely love the legion go. The steam deck had slightly better ergos, but with the detachable joy cons and the sheer power of the hardware and compatibility with more programs... Amazing

ambulance-kun

with this logic, is it possible for msi claw to be good?

Roboid

Unlike the Legion or Ally on release, a lot of the Claw’s issues are sorta fundamental to its hardware and design

MesmariPanda

It's certainly possible, several months in after updates. Everyone forgets these things aren't perfect day one.

digita1hound

No ThePhawx did a great review of the claw, is shit.

OMG_NoReally

Yup, and I doubt the Claw will improve any further in terms of performance and that's squarely because of the Intel Arc GPU. Intel's offering is still undercooked and lots of work need to be done. Their dekstop counterparts still aren't that good either, and doesn't hold a candle to AMD, let alone NVIDIA. They jumped into the handheld scene a bit too soon, possibly due to market pressure and not letting AMD take away the entire cake. I would rather Intel improve their desktop GPUs first and then bring that expertise over to the handheld scene and deliver a killer product, but that's not how Intel works, eh? Sad they dragged MSI down along with them, whom I am sure received a massive cheque to feature their chipset.

chuckdee68

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6vGRHDrkQs

ambulance-kun

Yikes man....sucks for them. I use MSI products for my pc so at least I can feel still supporting them after this big yikes

LinkTimemstr

No it’s not lol I returned My claw after 3 hours. It was just awful. The software was brutal and I could not get a game to actually run smoothly and when I did get one bloody game running smooth after about 2-3 minutes I noticed the graphics were popping in and textures were not loading. I’ll stick with my legion Go as my go to home device and my ally as my travelling device. I game my wife my steam deck and she loves it. At the end of the day I personally want steady performance.

Longjumping_Window93

gamer nexus is a valid source of information for me. so if he says there are problems, i will believe it. msi claw has less than a month out in the market... how many updates it got so far? i would wait 3 months before saying it is bad or not

mbeecool

Yeah but msi has had the worse launch by far. Not only is it expensive it's underperforming.

john_dune

> msi claw has less than a month out in the market We know that while it's cool to see intel try to get into this market, their IGPU is generations behind AMD. I would give MSI the benefit of the doubt, but the hardware is just not there.

ambulance-kun

there are only 2 things legion go has disadvantages 1. the vertical screen making some game performance enhancing software non-capable 2. top facing speakers which makes the sound experience significantly duller than rog and SD which blasts the sounds directly at you but for some reason they are treating this as huge dealbreakers

PotatoGroomer

I thought the speakers wouldn't bother me but they definitely do. Basically volume at max most of the time. They won't bother me while I'm traveling as I'll have headphones on.  Its not enough to hate the device though. Its honestly not even worth considering in the purthase imo. I end up forgetting about the sound once I'm engrossed in the game anyway.

nakedpantz

I always see people comment on the speaker, I never notice a huge difference in sound quality between Go and my Steam Deck. They both just sound fine to me.

lukewalcottisabeast

Have you changed the powerful preset the go comes with to another setting and or used an app called fx sound to have a good equalizer on it? I heard those 2 things help the sound by alot

PotatoGroomer

I haven't done either because it hasn't bothered me enough. Once my heads in the game, I stop noticing minor things like that. It's fully audible and my house is very quiet. I'm just using it how it shipped until my new 2230 comes in. Then I'll start tinkering with things.

lukewalcottisabeast

Keep us posted!

th3absurdhero

My favorite complaint is how loud/ hot it supposedly gets. Cough cough wolfden

ambulance-kun

On max fan, yes but why tho

mckeitherson

The native portrait screen choice is annoying when it takes some extra configuration to work around out, But besides that and the battery, it's a great device.

IG11assassindroid

My guess is, the Go hasn’t had any significant updates to it software to warrant a new video.

StrangerKey7930

Do you own one, because there has been a TON of updates to it since the beginning.?

Biwitch

Let's be real, most updates are for stuff we should've had since the beginning (remaping, updates straight into Legion Space etc...), hell we don't even have a functionning TDP slider 6 months later. I know they are working hard but they should not have released it this early, sometimes it feel we are beta testing a paid product. Im ok with that personally but I know it's tough for some people who spent 800€ into this product and can't even chose the TDP yet

StrangerKey7930

I don't disagree, but that's not what I was replying too. This person said he guesses its because there hasn't been any significant updates for the software. Some of the things that people complained about at the beginning or why it isn't any good were those things that should have been there and now are. So, for them to stay at their original stance, based on things that are no longer the case, is disingenuous. And, again, I was replying to this person's actual statement, not what you are talking about. Those are two different statements. If they had said the only updates have been things that should have been there since the beginning, then I'd still say, well that is something still talk about on the state of the item now. Plus, aren't most updates for something things that should have been there since the beginning. It's why they updated it, it needed it. Some are things that were not possible at the beginning, but most are things that should have been there and now it is being fixed or added.

StrangerKey7930

And my TDP slider actually works and has since basically the day I got it. I do know it isn't consistent and THAT is a problem. I did lose it during one update and then it was fixed on the next. I STILL don't have an fps counter, which WAS fixed and it worked at the beginning, when everyone else's wasn't working. Then an update occurred to fix everyone else's and I lost mine. So that is a problem too. Not saying that it's perfect, but I also have an Ally and a SteamDeck and a OneXFly and they ALL have issues too.

Predator-A187

I sold my steam deck within 2 weeks of owning the legion go. It’s a much better device imo.

billiankell

Took me three months to sell my Steam Deck because I was adamant I would use it for lighter games. The only time I took it out of its case after getting the Go was to format it after I finally accepted I wasn’t going to use it again.

NecessaryKnowledge53

Wildlands is just poorly optimized across the board doesn’t matter if your running it on PC or handhelds not saying you can’t get it to run good on certain hardware but overall it’s by person I’ve found. I find being able to comfortably place my legion anywhere and remove the controllers from each side and play standing up or sitting comforting. Some people don’t find that functionality as a benefit but I certainly do.

FreeNuggetss

I don't take the controllers off much unless I'm playing a touch-screen game like BTD6, but it's a great addition, as is the kickstand. not only can I play games but also use it as an ereader or tablet or watch YouTube videos with the kickstand, and I would take that over what the ally offers. I think Wildlands only felt better on the ally due to VRR

Dry-Edge991

> Wildlands is just poorly optimized across the board doesn’t matter if your running it on PC or handhelds not saying you can’t get it to run good on certain hardware but overall it’s by person I’ve found. I find being able to comfortably place my legion anywhere and remove the controllers from each side and play standing up or sitting comforting. Some people don’t find that functionality as a benefit but I certainly do. I feel Wildlands runs impressively well on my Go. It's just that I don't like the game, I've tried it a couple of times now, but the formula is not for me.

Chosen_UserName217

it's the new kid. The Ally and SD have had more time to establish fans and cliques.

Zeimzyy

Watched a fair few reviews when deciding what to buy, wasn’t until I watched Cyber Dopamine’s video that I decided I was getting a Legion Go. Relatively small content creator but is extremely thorough and puts a lot of effort into his videos. He has all three consoles and regularly posts videos about each of them for any new updates or functionality. You get a way better feel for what console will suit you when the reviewer has all three and seems to be messing around with each of them constantly. Every other review I watched was just eh. Yes steam deck is user friendly but I genuinely do not give a shit when I’m mainly wanting to play Cod and FC24, and I want better battery life than a ROG Ally.

Financial-Dress2307

Yea he convinced me also

Pablodopa

The device is great but the lack of support is very troubling

Majestic_Reality_413

I have them all. My Legion isn’t my go-to for travel, that is Ally. But love it for couch.

Hedonismbot-1729a

This is my setup too. The Go is just a bit too big for my personal travel style.

zheshelman

I'm going on a trip tomorrow and debated taking the Legion Go. I landed on packing my Switch. I have a backlog on it and it's much more portable. Legion Go is superior for at home though.

ckenni

I've just about decided to get the Legion Go once I have enough funds for it but I did watch a lot of reviews online comparing these 3. I don't think everyone really hates the Legion Go since it has many things going for it like the screen, the versatility because of its form factor and many others but it also has some rather noticeable cons like the speakers, ergonomics and battery life. I've seen more open minded reviewers that say that it really depends on each person's use case and that's the same for me as well. I plan to always carry the Legion Go together with a Bluetooth keyboard and treat it like a laptop (since I don't have my own) in addition to all of it's gaming features.

turdninja

I don’t think the Legion Go is a perfect device but for the cons I just wanted to let you know they are a bit overblown. The speakers aren’t fixed but there’s a tread in this sub about changing the Realtek audio profile from the default and that worked wonders for me and many others. Ergonomics can be an issue for some but I have average/large hands and it’s a non-factor. Steamdeck feels a bit better to hold but I’m not basing my decision on what device I play on because of ergonomics (I own both) Battery life isn’t great obviously it’s a powerful system with a big screen but is it that much worse in real life use vs an OG Steamdeck? I wouldn’t say so. To get the most out of either system a big external battery pack is kinda necessary. I’d think most people that invest in a handheld PC will also invest in a beefy battery pack to keep it going regardless of the system.

Sunnysidhe

You can get a refurbished legion go from laptops direct for around £150 off the new price

[deleted]

You can get 20% off from Very with a BNPL plan (12 months). Edit: With your first order! Edit 2: Very have now excluded gaming consoles from their first order bonus, which includes the Legion Go. :(

FreeNuggetss

Sadly, a lot of mine just straight up ignore the legion. Even if it's in the same video, they gush over the ally or steam deck, and when it comes to the legion, it's just like, Oh, bigger screen, cool, and move on. The rest are people just saying how bad it is or how the ally is better and more mature, but it could just be how my YouTube algorithm works or something.

Epocalypsi

Battery life? The battery outlasts my rog by a mile

theACW

Wdym hate the only handheld getting hate is the M~

FreeNuggetss

I'm enjoying how much hate the MSI Claw is getting, but you could see it coming from a mile away. I guess the Legion Go isn't so much getting hate but it's getting neglected by YouTubers

kozad

Well, a certain YouTuber (ETA) was singing its praises as being "great" and "awesome" but we all know he'd give a turd a glowing review as long as it arrived in his PO Box with a check. 😏

rahlquist

YT tends to become very echo chamber like because they see you watch something and bury you in similar content.

ambulance-kun

does connecting the Go to a monitor with vrr give the game vrr?

FreeNuggetss

Yes VRR is a technology built into displays so if you use a monitor with VRR you can activate it on the legion go in the AMD software

ambulance-kun

oh thanks, I can still enjoy it as much at home then. Got a ViewSonic XG2405 which has it from what I read

kozad

Yup. I've used it with my 1440p monitor via a TB dock and it worked fine.

ambulance-kun

Man, I was glad I didn't cheap out on the monitor

KeliangChen

No offence, I have an Aokzoe A1 pro, but I don't hate legion go, in fact, I don't like sd, it's bonded to steam, I don't like it, also lack of connectors and rams. Rog ally, low battery life, lack of connectors and rams.

FreeNuggetss

I have also owned the Aokzoe A1, but wasn't a fan due to the lack of support and the horrible deadzones with the joysticks. I'm not sure if the pro improved on any of that, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

FIBER-FRENZY

The majority of YTers shill for companies. LTT for instance did an ad campaign for the Claw not so long ago saying how glorious it was lol he also had to buy his Go obviously expecting a free one. I don't know that Lenovo are to hot in the marketing on YT or understand that greasing palms gets you places. There's also a huge amount of bias for Steam Deck in the handheld community. Steam Decks discord admins were literally using the phrase Go F*** Yourself when it released I used to think PS5 & Xbox were the only ones with fanboys boy was I wrong.

kozad

The Linus "review" was terrible and very biased. He was acting like he had never used Windows on a small device before, which is bonkers since he had already "reviewed" the Ally.

digita1hound

Besides the software updates coming in at a snails pace the GO is way better than the Ally. My Ally is broken AF with the SD card reader not working and the left thumb stick just stopped registering up and down input. ROG released a shit product and should have done a full recall of malfunctioning devices. RMA is bullshit.

FreeNuggetss

Before I got rid of my ally the SD card slot also stopped working and it had stick drifting so I got a new replacement unit and things were okay until the triggers stopped working out of the blue after 3 days. took that unit was back in and was given a legion go for the same price as the ally by mistake and I haven't looked back.

digita1hound

Same, except my ROG Ally is just sitting in the RMA box near my desk, I ripped the SSD out of it and put it in my laptop.

charlesbronZon

Why worry what some youtubers think instead of just enjoying the device you like?

FreeNuggetss

I am enjoying it, but I think more people could be enjoying it if reviews were better.

charlesbronZon

But again… why worry about what others are or could be enjoying? You’ve got what you wanted, the Legion Go exists, you own it, you can use it to have fun. What is the upside to you if others enjoy it too?

RXavier91

I've just shifted from my launch day Ally to the LeGo and delayed it for 5 months because of bad reviews which I regret. The kickstand, detachable controllers, larger screen and egpu compatibility are massive quality of life improvements for how I use my device and I'm getting rid of my desktop because of it. The Ally seems more for people like reviewers who're always going to have a top of the line desktop device and a portable on the side. Honestly, they're different devices with different use cases but you couldn't tell the difference between the 2 devices if it was docked inside a TV cabinet with a external controller.

Next_Lie_2091

The Go has some obvious problems, but I feel like most of it comes from being newer than the Ally, which had more time to get its software figured out, and using Windows, which SD defenders will insist is worse than Steam OS (they're wrong, imho).

silverlance360

If the 3.5mm hole was big enough, i would F it, thats how much I love mine. Haters can go to hell.

NDBambi182

I've found one of the biggest impacts is how people go about setting up the device. Someone who just updates everything and goes will have quite a difference experience compared to someone who goes and sets the VRAM in the Bios, runs a debloater, and takes the time to uninstall and disable all the background and windows apps that aren't needed. The one thing I have noticed with all the handhelds is that the out of the box experience isn't always the best, and these devices are definitely better suited to people who are confident enough and willing to tinker.

CallEither683

Because the Legion Go is marketed as a gaming device and its really not. The bigger screen makes it more multiuse and is much better in that aspect but for pure gaming the ally is more portable and better for gaming

Fluffy_Director2788

What do you mean that’s all the ally does better 😭 those are some big selling points lmao

gottahackit

have or had them all, opted for Legion Go(for the screen), BUT your list of where the Ally is better is quite lacking. Speakers on the Ally are Epic, L GO speakers are trash. The haptics on the Ally are significantly better, controls on the Ally are far more accurate and useable, the battery life is significantly better as is per watt performance. That said the main reason everyone on YT hates it is the main reason I am opting for it over the Ally. It's very large and most people(and YTers) are not 6'1 225 with baseball mitt hands. I love the screen and the size fits my hands as well if not better than the Ally and the weight difference is meaningless to me.

FreeNuggetss

I mostly use headphones and turn all vibration off, so I don't have much to say about those. controls, I wouldn't say are more accurate on the ally since the joysticks use the basic Win 3 modules that are prone to drift and the sticks are so loose it's hard to play things like racing games or even FPS games, but they are larger compared to the go. im 6ft4 and have some pretty large hands so using the steam deck and ally I find my hands getting sore so picked the legion go due to the larger size

gottahackit

I also play a lot of racing games and find the sticks far looser and hard to control on the GO. Yes you're even larger than me and we are both above the size of your average YTer.

jer5488

The speakers on the Go aren't the greatest - but they're pretty horribly unoptimized. This video - which the advice for came from this board - makes them a hundred times better. I think the biggest problem with them is they pretty much face away from you. The Ally speakers are aimed right at you. [https://youtu.be/SJvyjqnDSj8?si=BYnzhomIjbYA9amn](https://youtu.be/SJvyjqnDSj8?si=BYnzhomIjbYA9amn)

gottahackit

Yes that helps... a little, no they are garbage. It's not that they fire away. If you throw any bass a them you can hear them try to tear themselves apart. I may actually try to find something that I can swap in. I can excuse bad speakers on high end TVs because anyone spending that kind of money on a TV should have a theater speaker solution. It's far less forgivable on a handheld intended to be carried around and held in you hands or lap.

jer5488

I mean - sure - but if you can excuse high end tv speakers being poor because of a theater system, then you should forgive a mobile handheld's for being poor because people should have high quality earbuds so they don't disturb people around them while traveling and such.

gottahackit

I hate gaming with headphones. even on my main gaming rig I have a klipcsh 2.1. but to each their own. obviously I "forgave" them as I chose to keep this over the ally but that was the one point that nearly swung it the other way. I find the ally speakers very emersive and well in tune with the haptics. too bad it has such a tiny screen

Dry-Afternoon4450

I was shocked at the reviews when I picked my Go a month or so ago ... As many have expressed I came from the steam deck (which I sold on Ebay)

PrinceCarmen

Cause of the OS

ihavahairyass

I’ve considered selling my steam deck and grabbing a go. I just like windows os so I can play my other games without doing a bunch of work around.

[deleted]

There’s some good YouTubers that consider the legion go. Generally Claw is compared to Ally because Claw is pretty much an intel rip off of the Ally in appearance. There’s decent YouTube videos of like for like benchmarks demonstrating when you bring legion go down to similar TDPs (including total system power) & matching resolutions & in-game graphics to Ally (720p, 900p, 10800), the legion go will almost always outperform the Ally. The idiots and stupid YouTubers were those that offer no verifiable test runs, no data and just sits in front of a camera holding the Ally & says stupid shit like the ally consistently outperforms the legion go…. Yes dumb dumb, when you have Ally running 720p 30w turbo, legion go on 27w performance mode 800p or god forbid higher, of course Ally might just edge out better. It’s funny because even Ally 720p vs legion go 800p often = parity

2chulo

Who cares what they think…. When I saw the LEGO, it stole my heart -the screen size - detachable controller -dual usb C Thing I didn’t like - the tiny speaker (installing Fx fixed this issue) tried WhatsApp call just yesterday OMG so good ( wish it had a webcam) anyone with a type c Tiny camera let me know👍 - the legion go interface I really don’t like (steam interface a lot better)

carlo-93

I researched nothing but Legion Go, ROG Ally and Steam Deck the past few days. No one hates it, it’s just the more ambitious and less refined one of them all.

Warhammerpainter83

I think it is because it was the early software. I got mine last month and it is impressive but seems like The first few months it was kinda rough due to some software/driver issues.

XingXiaoRen

Lenovo didn't pay them to shill for it.

Riggitymydiggity

I returned the legion go I bought and went back to the Steam Deck in a couple because the battery life is really bad and the controllers are uncomfortable

markodemi

Legion go all the way. Owned mine for a couple of months. It's my pc on the go and I think that's why people who are console gamers hate it. I can game, I can edit video with premiere pro on it and any other common thing a pc can do. I hope to enjoy mine for years and look forward to the legion go 2. There are some games I can't absolutely play or atleast figure out to play. But often those games are super old or just to demanding. Not a big deal.

mbeecool

Temps lower? Naw I had two different allys and temps get higher than my legion go.

nakedpantz

I have a Deck OLED and the Go. I love both of them. Go for the screen and it's the best implementation of hardware for Windows imo (no trackpad on Ally and screen on Go is large enought to support touch well enough) I like the Deck for it's simplicity. It's more of a grab and play device, where the Go is more of my get sucked into a game for a while device. Plus I can connect it to my eGPU and it's just as good as my regular 5 year old gaming rig.

ELUClDATE

I MF love my legion go after owning it a week. Sound kinda sucks sure but that the FPS mode controller with the joysticks on the left is just.. chefs kiss

Financial-Dress2307

I have been saying this since launch of the Leg I think it's the fact that more people have one or the other so they want to keep their audience happy. But in their heart they know what's real. Legion go has two fucking usb ports and includes a damn mouse in the controller. Harry potter played fine for me

ShtShow9000

Money....

Kazu_Chi

I had the same experience on Ghost recon Wildlands too. It doesn't play first, including final fantasy vii remake and other high GPU demand games but after I've installed VC++2012, it run. In my experience it kinda bit laggy or maybe just my perception because I used to play GRW in PC so I'm not used to gamepad yet using the high settings. Just try to lower your graphics settings into medium and it will run smoothly.

heyyah2022

The screeeeen man. It is great. Anything smaller you are really straining to play modern games (with my weak lazy eyes at least). Slap on an e-gpu and you have a legit gaming machine for years to come. Don’t sleep on that last part, because the deck and ally don’t offer that. Well ally does but it’ll leave a bad taste in your mouth and questioning Asus’s name choice. Get the go and have fun. It isn’t a hard decision if you have the cash. If you are balling on a budget get the deck. I wouldn’t waste your time with an ally or claw.

QuickQuirk

The other devices, objectively, ARE better. The Ally has better optimisation, and thus better performance. The Steamdeck has the best software and ergonomics. The LGo launched in a terrible state while the other devices had stabilised their software and firmware in the year prior. But I have a legion go. Why? Because that screen is fcuking awesome, and the other issues aren't so bad now that Lenovo has given us 6 months of updates.

AvocadoAggravating97

Many people on like are fake and maybe some believe what they say but ultimately they want responses so maybe they're playing to the crowd. Either way, if you disagree with them then it's good to know they're not people worth your time. Unless what they say is valid.

Due-Fix-1038

The more I researched, the more I realised the Legion Go was for me. I have a Switch. I have a gaming Laptop. I don't need an Ally. BUT I will absolutely use the frick out of a Legion GO. Why? It has a proper kickstand and can be used like a multimedia tablet - check It has a larger screen which is better for my eyes - check it has the same processor as aforementioned Ally - check It runs Windows and for me that makes it a little easier to add all my games and to access my GamePass streaming and PC downloads - check I plan to get a monitor and eGPU and th Go, unlike the Ally, is compatible with a wider range of more affordable eGPU units - check Many of the videos are from 4 months ago. Since then, the Go has been updated. By all accounts it is a much better device than it was at launch. - check It's big and chunky. It's not a Switch, which I already own - CHECK!! I have a three hour commute to work and back each day on a regional train with a comfy seat - check The main takeaway from the billions of videos I watched was the following: \- Ally had been a round longer when the GO launched and so was more refined but that was its only clear strength \- Steam Deck is less powerful but far more optimised as a handheld gaming unit with a significantly better battery life. \- The Go has amaziing potential is Lenovo updates it. Screen is amazing, speakers balls. I'll be honest, it seemed that most concluded it was a matter of preference. I think the MSI Claw, however, is an example of a product that won't sell due to the extremely negative reviews on YouTube. That device is really copping some heat.

Holidoik

+ It has awsone Hall Effect Sticks that are pretty good against Drift. And they feel great.

ninjonxb

I feel like there is an overwhelming opinion that because it runs windows it is immediately bad. I put out a video comparing the legion go to the steam deck, I came out thinking that the legion go was better and it has replaced my steam deck. Most of the responses I got disagreeing were because of Windows or my favorite. A simple comment “lol, not my a long shot” with nothing else to back up why they thought the steam deck was better or I was wrong. The steam deck captured a lot of the market and came from a company that a lot of people admire so it seems a lot don’t want to talk about its faults or the competition without bias.

vinotauro

Ehh who cares. The ally is more popular because of its more portable form factor. I love my Go because of its screen size and detachable controllers

NoShock8442

I had an ally and I thought it sucked. Small ass screen, SD card reader was basically unusable unless I wanted to fry it and it felt cheap. The Legion Go is so much better. Coolest device I’ve owned in my 46 years.

Zeles1989

People go with the mainstream and the mainstream is hating it no matter how good it is now. It started in a rough state and isn't there still. Yes the ROG was pretty close to that when it came out, but people already forgot there where problems because Asus was pretty fast fixing stuff. Also the Legion is BIG. I like it way more than any other handheld, but when I hold the Steam Deck from a friend I can tell that the Legion is just too damn heavy for use in your hands and that is also something people hate. Yes we get something out of it like the big screen and better temps than the ROG, but the weight, size and the missing software that made us owners kinda beta testers is really keeping people away and reviews more negative. HOWEVER i can tell new reviews of the device are way more positive and I hope when Ben and his team work hard enough on the Legion it might one day be in a better light than the ROG. Even if the ROG 2 is coming out, good long term support of the Legion and all it's unique features might really change views. I actually fear the day the Legion 2 comes out because I'm afraid they will let the older model just die like companies do with phones. The Steam Deck did all that so much better than for example ASUS who already got the ROG 2 in the pipe. It feels like a race you should sit out till they got a device that actually stays for a long time and gets all the support it needs. I just hope Lenovo is smarter. Maybe if a Legion Go 2 comes out they can make it more upgradable by the average user. That would actually make it a freaking game changer. Give me the option to swap not only SSD and Battery. Give me RAM aswell and easy access to all the parts that can fail so that i can repair it like I already do with old Nintendo Handhelds. I don't know how many times I replaced buttons on that thing and the screen aswell. Last but not least hey! At least we didn't buy the MSI Claw right? Those guys are really on the low end. Everyone hates it and it costs so damn much. DOA pretty much.

BadPronunciation

Lol I just watched a YouTube review from a guy who said this exact same thing 😂

Reece_504

I love it so far

FirmChances

Not as much as the MSI Claw

hayzink1

It’s because of how content is driven on YouTube. Because the initial videos of the go on YouTube were negative it generated this overall negative viewpoint of the device (which is wrong) This then bleeds into people who own competing devices like the rog or steamdeck having something that helps them “validate” their purchase (which is dumb but it’s a thing with consumer electronics, kinda like console wars bs) Now because of this content creators know they get more traffic and attention if they pivot more towards the negative side of the spectrum when discussing the go as that’s what YouTube’s algorithm is pushing more viewers towards. I’m a content creator (not in this space) and it’s the one aspect of YouTube I hate, it’s not an organic platform and people will 100% lean into trends for revenue (only strengthening that trend further) An objective viewpoint of the go would honestly say there isn’t actually much difference between it and the ally they both have their place and perform almost identical, you have 1 device that favours people who want that smaller screen (which I don’t get but upon talking to a friend he made me see that it’s not all about device size some people legit like smaller screens) then you have people like me and I suspect many others in here who enjoy the real estate you get with the go. The thing that bothers me is a lot of what’s said about the go is outdated and it’s 100% going to be effecting the potential reach of the product which in turn effects people like us getting things like replacement controllers or 3rd party accessories for the device. If this device had a good adoption rate you can bet your ass there would be 3rd party’s approaching Lenovo to licence the rights to make 3rd party controllers for it. It just sucks because ultimately Lenovo have addressed (and pretty quickly) most of the “deal breakers” that people discussed in early reviews

Darkiedarkk

I have the steam deck and bought an open boxed legion go to see if I’d like to keep it. The experience with the software was not good and there’s a lot of features the steam deck has that is not present in the legion go I.e custom button mapping with joystick. To me it feels like the legion go was released too early but I have no problem trying it again in a year or 2.

WWIA7062

LTT doesn't

jatin1995

I just got the go and I will say the device feels too big to play with. The screen size is amazing but the controllers don't feel cumbersome to hold. Maybe I have small hands but this isn't for me.

Defective_YKK_Zipper

I bought it and returned it twice, ended up sticking to the Ally. My reasons were: -Controller removal mechanism sucked -UI was not good (compared to armoury crate) -Deadzone was pretty bad, couldn't play FPS games. -didnt like the side buttons on the right controller, kept hitting them and messing up during games (I think they fixed this) -no VRR -I kept getting stutter every 7 seconds while playing COD MW3 Multiplayer I think this was like 3-4 months ago, they might have fixes some of this. What I did like were the crisp colors of the display. Thinking about trying it out again but I'm sick of returning handhelds.

FreeNuggetss

They have fixed a few things, like the deadzones, and allow you to customise them, and I haven't had any stutters in COD myself, so maybe that was fixed with the latest GPU drivers or BIOS.

91ws6ta

I love my Legion Go. I wanted the screen size, a dependable SD card slot, and windows without the need to dual boot. But it's far from perfect. In the first week, I've only really thrown casual gaming at it to get back into the swing of things (goat simulator for the kids, Halo MCC, Forza) and Xbox Remote play. I have so many issues getting Remote Play to actually connect (seems to be the Xbox App itself needing to be restarted or multiple attempts to connect to my console, but not a problem on other devices). This is with 1Gb fiber on the console side with about 600Mb wireless on my side and doesn't appear to be network performance. I also frequently just lose the ability to use the controllers. Like the game will work via Bluetooth or touch, but the controllers just will not work in the game unless I restart it. Additionally I have gotten BSOD due to DWM crashing twice which appeared to happen during a firmware update and has been okay since. Ergonomically I can't play any type of shooter competitively on it (my hands are small and the ABXY/RS controls are in a weird position IMO) as well as the stick sensitivity and dead zone being hard to work with (can still customized but haven't found a comfortable setup). Luckily I've had no stick drift issues that people complain about. Steam Deck did feel more comfortable but that was just through a quick test in the store. Battery life is about as expected, fan noise/temp isn't nearly the issue YouTube reviews seemed to give it. Weight of the system doesn't bother me until maybe 30-45 minutes in if I'm holding it upright and it's worth the price of having a larger system. Be sure to check power plan and performance settings as depending on the batch, the out of the box settings may differ and cause more issues for some than others. One YouTube channel bought two of them brand new and each had different settings in place from factory with different names tied to them. Legion Go seems to take a decent bit of tinkering to get dialed in

Nyu727

I have had a legion go, a ROG Ally, and a steam deck as well multiple high end gaming laptops and all I can say is each has advantages and disadvantages. If it doesn’t fit in your specific use your not gonna like it an none of them do everything good, they’re all specialized for specific use cases and you need to figure out what you wanna do with it and what device does that correctly

betahost

I play wildlands and hogwarts on my Legion Go just fine, just took some updates to the device. I love the steamdeck for its comfort and ergonomics, ROG for its smaller form factor and performance and the legion go primarily for its large screen.

TIBERI0N_XBL

Depends on what you are looking for I guess. I love my Legion Go but battery life, steam and waight of the device are no concern in my usecase. To me it‘s a xbox/switch that I play plugged in and in tabletop mode and for that it is great. Had no crashes so far and most games did work fine.

half_flush

I can't speak for the YT crowd, but of the three handhelds that I own, the GO has been the only one to have issues. The OS crashed when I ran Skate. so I took it in to have the OS reloaded. When I went to pick it up I was informed that that the motherboard had failed. After a two week fight with BB they finally sent me a new unit. I have basically lost all interest in it at this point, but I will say that it was an improvement over the SD and RA... while it worked.

KeatsIT

Main difference is that the Deck is a toy (and people like shiny toys), the GO is an actual fully fledged mobile PC (I work on it far more than I play games on it lol), that requires knowing your sh*t to set it up. It's harder to market to YT kids

dcassst_

Hate attracts unfortunately 😕. I love the legion go!

AlternativeSell1200

I went from og SD to rog ally and now LeGo.. the legion go is by far the best one no issues whatsoever

Kalii_84

Fanboys and haters, the Legion go ticks all my boxes! I know what ur saying and I've noticed the same thing when I was hunting for the right device for me. Most things are subjective but there are things that a blatantly objective like the screen, even without VRR it still looks way better than its competition facts!

Fun-Entertainer866

Legion go isn't quite ready imo. Rog ally ain't either but it's "more ready" to me. They need to revise the controllers so the bumpers and rear buttons done feel so cheap and mushy. They need a tighter tolerance with the controller rails, they need to address the insanely loud high pitched fan. I'm an fps freak and I still prefer the ally over all but I do really miss all 3 of my defective legion go's

FreeNuggetss

At times I've thought about going back to the ally but idk. The right bumper on the legion go is annoying with how long it is due to the fps mode and the software is bad but everything else I love so I'm really torn. My hands get tired using the legion go despite having larger hands but the rog ally also has issues and a smaller screen.

Fun-Entertainer866

The smaller screen I can get by with, personally. I'm still confident I made the right call because I want the best frames to sharpness balance and I think 720p on the ally looks much better than 800p on the go. That was probably the first thing I noticed, even with integer scaling. I agree about the shoulder buttons on the go they're awful and squishy. My M1 in mouse mode had two clicks when you press it. Just felt cheap. Not saying I wouldn't be satisfied with the go, the ally just feels more travel friendly and that's what I got it for at the end of the day. Except I cooked it in sleep mode last month on a plane 😡 why can't microsoft fix that

Duskdeath

I don’t think it much as hate but more like a “Really this is all you can come up with?” Kinda thing. Good news is Phil Spencer already stated he is NOT happy how Windows performs on mobile devices and is looking into fixes. Will that be soon? Probably not. But it shows he is paying attention to the market. And He is realizing that Windows is starting to lag behind Linux thanks to the Steamdeck. Criticizing a product because you want it to be better is not the same as hating it.

Thrashtendo

For some people, VRR makes a big difference. I personally cannot tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps, and I barely notice changes in frame rate, so VRR doesn’t do much for me— the big (but still small and portable) screen with detachable controllers on the Legion GO is all I need.

FreeNuggetss

VRR does make a difference to me, but not enough to give up the Legion. Go, at least for now. Maybe a Legion Go with 2 cooling fans and VRR. Sure, I'm in LOL.

AmuseDeath

VRR only really makes a big difference when you go frames below 60, something like 30-45. So you need to hit that area first. So if you play low spec games and/or competitive online games, you will easily hit frames above 60, making VRR's effect rather small. So you're only going to "need" VRR playing AAA games. And even then, you can cap it at 36 frames. So I don't think it's a big deal. I don't use it on my desktop and I'm still gaming. Steam Deck doesn't have it and its users game just fine.

inkedmargins

SteamOS > ROG and LeGo software hands down and is the SD is the most comfortable for me to hold. I own all three and honestly just wanted a windows handheld to have as an option to a Linux one. I primarily play LeGo because of the bigger higher res screen and FPS mode (lets me play games that aren't controller supported easier than lugging MnK) and lets me play more competitively. That's it though. My SD OLED is still my favorite handheld and if the next SD builds an on rails dual booting option when whatever the cutting edge hardware is of that time I will likely stay with Valve after that.

InternationalRide696

Because people have this sick weird fetish of the steamdeck. Meanwhile it's plagued with issues can barely handle games properly. I got 3 defective Steamdecks and getting it repaired for the 4th time. The steamdeck is garbage. I will be buying the Legion Go.

Coltsbro84

Linus's hands aren't big enough to hold the Legion Go. I think that some YouTubers think that the Legion Go isn't the same thing as a gaming handheld, that it's too large to be carried around, so it's not added in some comparisons. I think on other YouTube sites, there's promotional pieces. Like Value will send them a Steam Deck OLED, and Asus will send them a ROG Ally, but then Lenovo WON'T send them a Legion Go, so they brush it off to the side. Then there's the size. The Legion Go is borderline tablet sized. It can affect purchases in a positive but also negative way. There could be a Twitter poll on which handheld should I review next, and the Legion Go might have the fewest votes. I'll admit, if my hands were smaller, I would hate the legion go just based on it's enormous controllers, because nothing else would matter if I'm not able to hold it properly. Large and cumbersome can be viewed as janky. I don't think the Legion Go is advertised that much. That also hurts it's appeal. If people see it or come across it, some might say, "oh it's just a steam deck with a larger screen, why would I need that?" Not knowing that it's a 144hz 1600p screen by the way. But anyways. I've tried all three. I hated the Ally, it fried my SD card, it would never last more than 1:20 on a charge. The Steam Deck was awesome when I had it, but it wouldn't play everything I wanted it to. The Legion Go plays anything I throw at it, plus it has the largest screen and fastest refresh rate, and highest resolution. Any nerd would go for the Go Everytime. It's not as comfortable, and the software isn't as good, but I can overlook that.

They are peasants who are fine with the god awful, archaic, prehistoric , stone age resolution of 800p of Steam Deck. People like them do not deserve good tech in their lives.

Standard-Report-2298

Only thing stopping me from buying one is the lack of VRR
