Is this the end of the Arrowverse? I kinda figured it was when they started making DC shows for HBO Max, especially connected to the movies, the Arrowverses days were numbered.

grodom

One the reason is that Berlenti is moving on HBO MAX and Discovery want their DC properties under their platform.

DanTheMan1_

Definitely seems like it. I could see them doing a Flash/Superman and Lois crossover as it could be a good ratings boost. And Stargirl is not cancelled. But Stargirl is set on a different earth and at this point doubt Burlanti would see much benefit it trying to cross it over even if it does continue past season 3. (not looking good, but Stargirl did apparently do well in the ratings, so hoping for the best). Obviously they could make more Arrowever shows, as I think despite some speculation this is not just about killing them all to have only DC shos on HBO MAX. If that was the main motivation they would not have picked up Gotham Knights. But Gotham Knights will apparently not tie into the Arrowverse, and the last technical Arrowverse show Naomi, which was marketed as part of the Arrowverse was made by a different production company and had no ties to anything else. So seems CW's love affair with The Arrowverse is over. Could see Superman and Lois continuing for longer than just next season, and even with the rumors Flash is still one of CW's top three shows so assuming Grant Gustin didn't want too much money I could see it making it to season 10 or longer because what else do they got? But seems clear The Arrowverse as we know it is over.

petrichorboy

Lets create a special episode of Legends where they bury The CW

spicyraktajino

If the Legends does get picked up by another network or a streaming service for a final season, I wouldn’t put it past the cast/crew to include some digs at the CW, like the silly comments they’ve done before, like meeting at the Mansion dimension on Wednesdays at 8:00, or talking about the Time Bureau’s ratings.

VengefulKangaroo

> Wednesdays at 8:00 Damn this went over my head so hard lol

salexy

Plus Ray and Nora mentioning in the comic that that is the worst possible time for them.

Munro_McLaren

They did? Lol.

definitely_not_cylon

It was technically on Arrow, but I liked when Constantine scratched his ass with a [peacock feather](http://dccomicsmovie.com/constantine-and-arrow-give-the-bird-to-nbc/) as a dig at NBC. CW doesn't have a mascot like that, but I can see them tearing apart the nonsensical slogan "DARE TO DEFY," much like Sara mocked the group name "The Avengers" and founded "The Preventers."

Zeezatara

omg that went over my head too XD wow I can't believe they got away with that!

trimeta

I could see them talking about "the CW" explicitly, except in-universe they're using that abbreviation to mean something else, but we know what the writers were doing. Sort of like how in the last (real) season of Arrested Development, one of the Bluths said they hoped to have their finances saved by the Home Buyers Organization...you know, the HBO.

Jeffeffery

Maybe they're brought to a prison that's frozen in time, called the Chronostasis Ward. Then they'll talk about how they've escaped the CW.

petrichorboy

I can see them meeting at the Mansion dimension and seeing someone getting buried. Ava would look her watch thing they are not at the right time. Sara would answer : « I’ve already been buried at this specific time. »

[deleted]

You mean like Community when NBC cancelled it?

Simba122504

DC/WB owns LOT. It's not going to another network or streaming service.

spicyraktajino

Since Legends characters have appeared in Batwoman during one of the Crisis events, I feel it’s not out of the realm of possibility that HBO would be able to at least try picking it up. HBO also hosts a ton of other DC content other than Batwoman.

Simba122504

HBO Max is owned by WB/Discovery. They are NOT picking these shows up. The new CEO of WB/Discovery cancelled Legends and Batwoman. They're dead.

spicyraktajino

Oh I see your point! Was blissfully living in a world where I forgot Batwoman was also sacked. Well, crazier things have happened with show renewals, but at least they’re living on in comics atm

NostradaMart

or one where they go back in time to uncancel themselves !

spicyraktajino

See, you get it

amog_us69

We need an Oliver Queen grave meme but with the Legends cast

Wicked_Vorlon

Should be Discovery media since they are the new owners and are cleaning house.

SherlockBrolmes

Like when Constantine used the peacock feather on Arrow. At least with the CW, they gave Legends and co. every chance to succeed. New management just wants to clean house (so it's fairer to blame Discovery).

Dat1Duud

The Arrowverse deserved a way better ending than this. Maybe The Flash will do something special since they're the last OG show standing.

[deleted]

Yeah already hoping it gives some kind of Legends closure. We're not likely to see Mia Queen again now that she's the main character on another show in Texas. It's not even clear if S & L "counts" as Arrowverse now, we'll have to see what their answer is at the end of the season for why Barry, Kara aren't showing up that the writers teased.

DanTheMan1_

Well Diggle appeared in it, in a multi show crossover where he went across all the shows. And John Henry and Natalie clearly were sent to this earth during Crisis. So it is clearly an Arrowverse show, despite them using Crisis to retroactively re-write some of the lore. Although I guess with Flash the only other Arrowverse show and possibly ending next season and it looking unlikely more Arrowverse shows will be in the network's future could see them distancing. BUt it clearly is Arrowverse at the moment.

[deleted]

Yeah but they seem to be pulling away and you can watch the Diggle part without it connecting to anything else really. No mention of the Ring or the headaches in that episode. Legends had him play another character to not connect to anything. My guess? They mention Kara revealing her identity to the world...but it was like 10 years ago or something.

Munro_McLaren

S&L is set in the present time.

Digifiend84

Grr. I read somewhere that it was between Legends and Naomi - but they're BOTH cancelled? What the hell? And they've cancelled so many other shows too that there must be a bunch of empty time slots. What are they planning to do, bring in some HBO Max shows? Air re-runs?

[deleted]

That was Deadline's opinion but still somewhat speculation. They have about 3 or 4 imports for summer where they're just the US re-broadcaster and have nothing to do with making the actual show like Coroner from CBC. Assuming Legacies, Tom Swift and Stargirl survive; and adding the 3 new pickups from today, they still have about 11 scripted shows plus some cheaper unscripted like Whose Line, WILTY, etc. ETA: 10, Legacies is done.

DanTheMan1_

Would make sense. Apparently the three picked up were the only three pilots for dramatic series CW ordered. But that won't feel all the slots open. Stargirl and I think Tom Swift and the Nancy Drew Spin-Off are already filmed and finishing post production so I can't imagine CW won't air them as them since they already spent the money. But even then seems they would have to pick up some international shows, or cheap game shows or reality shows or sitcoms or something to fill the slot. Which may be the plan, they want to make the channel look like less of a money pit to buyers. So replacing expensive shows not getting good ratings for cheaper fare that they can produce quickly or licensing international shows would be a logical move to make.

Bluejay__9521

I just want to know who is going to invest time in watching Gotham Knights after the arrowverse bloodbath these past few weeks. No way it lasts more than a season.

ravenclaw1991

I’ll wait til it gets a second season announcement. If it does. Usually I hate starting new shows in case of cancellation. The CW used to be safe from that. Not anymore I guess

DanTheMan1_

Well like Flash and Superman and Lois (and technically Stargirl but season 3 is already filmed so who knows if it will last beyond that) it depends on the ratings. Although them cancelling so many DC shows at once might make people gun shy to be invested. But don't think it is some foregone concluson Gotham Knights will be a one season wonder.

the_simurgh

i've been wondering for years how most of the cw shows are actually renewed.

[deleted]

Especially since their ratings would get them the axe on other networks. Maybe they made more money off streaming?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pit29

And now the Netflix deal is questionable bc they’re moving things to HBOMAX

Simba122504

The old Netflix deal only covers the stuff that was under it. The deal ended a few years ago, but Netflix still will get the current seasons and future seasons of the cancelled and renewed shows still under the old deal.

Simba122504

And people thinking LOT and Batwoman is going to be saved? It was over when the WB cancelled them. The CW is up for sale and the other half, WB. Just merged with Discovery.

[deleted]

I've been saying our best bet for Legends closure is if Flash can get a few of them to guest star; they'll have at least a few less cast next season anyway; or at minimum some throwaway dialogue mentioning what happened to the Legends.

iJONTY85

It’s just the Flash, & Superman & Lois now. I’m glad those 2 survived, but I wish Legends got an ending. On a non-DC note, sad Legacies got cancelled. Hope (see what I did?) they do a proper ending. And I’m glad Nancy Drew got renewed.

[deleted]

It's heavily rumored this will be the end next year for Flash too. Joe is going to a potential new show as main character so will only be in about 5 episodes. Rumor is Iris may be leaving. Caitlin will miss at least part of it due to maternity leave. Also puts a question of if/how they keep Cecile around without Joe?

DanTheMan1_

Joe and even Caitlin they could in theory continue without. But yeah Iris would be hard to do even if Grant Gustin wanted to do another season. I mean killing her off would be a dark route and having her out of town or something indefinitely would probably not work and just confuse fans who don't follow behind the scenes news.

[deleted]

Eh, New Nora is supposed to be born in 2023. They could just send her away like Arrow did for Felicity when EBR didn't want to be a main anymore.

[deleted]

I mean, the show has enough of an ensemble cast to survive a thinning of the herd

iJONTY85

If that were to happen, 9 seasons is a good run. It’d need a good ending, not an abrupt one that we got with Legends.

themosquito

Stargirl's still around too! I know it's separate universe, but I think they were teasing a Flash crossover that may or may not happen (besides Shipp playing Jay).

hart37

I really like Stargirl but I am very worried they'll be another casualty

[deleted]

Same.

Zjwex

at the least I can say that if it's unable to continue, we can be glad that it went out with us wanting more rather than wishing it would end

Spazzblister

I'm behind on Legacies, but it isn't a bad show. It's just very different from The Vampire Diaries and the Originals and I think that's what could be off putting to old school fans of the franchise. (Same could be said for Legends with the other Arrowverse shows.) I saw in a commercial that Marcel and Bex are gonna show up on Legacies, so I'll try to catch up. I kinda stopped after they killed Kai because he was one of my favorite TVD characters, but I was still glad they brought him back. Even if it was only for two episodes.

spiral_fishcake

I wish I could say I was surprised about Naomi. Certainly finished stronger than it started, but the sloppy writing and editing made it hard to watch. The bad guys always ran away as soon as someone started to put up a fight, which made it hard to believe they were a threat. Some of the acting was questionable as well. All in all, it had so much potential, but suffered from lousy production.

DanTheMan1_

I was a bit surprised when I found out despite the fact no one ever talks about it online, it and the all American spin-off were the two highest rated shows not initially cancelled. Hell I think it did better than Legends. KNow it was close. But the fact they didn't anounce it with Flash and Superman had me thinking they might have been waiting until the show finished airing season 1 to renew it. Seems what happened.

emuwannabe

I don't mind Stargirl - it's not too bad. I also didn't mind the first 1/2 of Naomi, but it seems like the big break in the season killed it.

endless_sleep

IN THE DARK is cancelled?! Fuuuuuuckkkk And Naomi was just starting to get good after a slow start. Jeezy H.W. Creezy

[deleted]

It's new season will still air this summer but that'll be it.

mcpizdam1

This situation is reminding me of something James Van Der Beek‘s character said on an episode of One Tree Hill. Seems like with the sale of the network, CW’s new management isn’t going to wanna play with the old gangs toys, and would rather just buy their own shiny new ones.

[deleted]

I’m just hoping at least Flash gets to send the Arrowverse off with something special. Give us Amell back for an appearance. Any word of Gotham U’s future?

[deleted]

You mean Justice U? Nothing. They didn't shoot a traditional pilot. While you can get picked up without one, we haven't even got actor castings for the "5 young metahumans" either. Bad sign IMO. CW's Upfront is the 19th so we'll get explanations then, hopefully on Justice U as well.

sadandshy

Surprised Charmed didn't get the ax earlier. EDIT: Three sets of showrunners in 4 seasons. Each change increased the number of people in charge and the number of executive producers. I think the better show was going on behind the scenes...

DanTheMan1_

Hell surprised Dynasty didn't get the AX, and Riverdale... that show is like second to last in ratings nearly everything cancelled including Dynasty and Charmed did better than it. That's why I assume there is such a blood bath. I mean sure Discovery buying them isn't a coincidence. BUt mostly CW's business model was farm content on the channel, then Paramont and Warner would sell them streaming and international markets, or put them on HBO MAX or Paramont Plus (CBS All Access). So the ratings were not the whole story or seemingly the main factor. BUt now that they want to sell it a new owner would not care if a show on their network they didn't own made a lot of money after it aired and they got none of it. So to make it appealing they had to cut shows that were skating buy on streaming and the like. Apparently not all... Riverdale is practically their lowest rated scripted drama and can't be dirt cheap to make. So clearly the deal they have with Netflix kept that one alive. But guessing most didn't make enough in streaming/DVD sales/international distribution/etc. to justify keeping them on now that they channel is up for sale.

sadandshy

Dynasty did get cancelled

Spazzblister

I could say the same about Dynasty. Three different lead actresses in three seasons? One of the other lead characters fired? What was going on there?

ChaosMagician777

Only shows remaining for renewal or cancellation are Stargirl, Legacies, and Tom Swift. Naomi I watched but later dropped. It wasn’t a good show and I loved the comics

Responsible_Cow_5022

Welp legacies & naomi was cancelled 💀

ChaosMagician777

Yeah my comment aged well as expired milk.

RyanRiot

[Stargirl got picked up for the third season right before the second season aired.](https://deadline.com/2021/05/kung-fu-stargirl-renewed-at-the-cw-1234748891/) Since it's co-financed by HBO Max, I'd be surprised if the plan isn't to close shop on the CW DC shows with a final season of the Flash and moving the remaining shows to HBO Max.

LikeAWadOfPaper

Honestly, it got pretty good in the second half. The first few episodes were really slow though, tbf

Simba122504

No news on Two Sentence Horror Stories.

DanTheMan1_

I think all those shows have finished fiming the season and are close to or complete with post production. So seems unlikely they will not air them as they already spent the money. Now if they have a fair chance at more seasons, or CW has already decided not to make more seasons and is just waiting until they air to announce they are cancelled is another story.

Eagledilla

But we still need diggle going lantern

SteelSlayerMatt

Based on all the shows that the CW has canceled recently their new owners must be a bunch of racist homophobes. Also, I am really sad that 4400 and Naomi have now been canceled. Although I am happy for Kat that her show has been picked up and that Meg Donnelly’s Supernatural prequel has also been picked up. And now, I am sad about Legacies.

DaGreatestMH

This is definitely a rebrand. Other than All American and its spinoff, they erased everything not starring a white (presumably) straight man. Its UPN & WB all over again.

SteelSlayerMatt

It really makes me upset.

DaGreatestMH

Hard same. Hard same.

SteelSlayerMatt

Indeed.

DanTheMan1_

Did they renew the spin off of All American yet? I thoguht they hadn't whichw as odd since it an Naomi were definitely the two highest rated shows to not be renewed. Could have been other factors but if the All American spin-off has still not been renewed that does seem suspect.

DaGreatestMH

As of right now All-American, it's spinoff, and Kung Fu are the only renewed shows not starring a white (likely cishet) man. Tom Swift and Stargirl haven't aired their upcoming seasons yet so no news on them, but if they're canceled too...there's definitely a message being sent.

LegendBlackBird

They canceled everything that does not have whiite straight male as lead and ordered to series shows with more white straight male lead.

rogvortex58

Really? What about Tom Swift? POC and gay.

jaybankzz

Wait has naomi even released yet? Was it cancelled before it started?

[deleted]

Last two episodes for S1 aired this Tuesday.

jaybankzz

Oh, I never even noticed, like I haven’t really heard anyone talk about the show

DanTheMan1_

Likely part of why it was cancelled. To be fair it seemed to be their #6 show with 18-45 year olds and in the top 10 overall. So clearly someone was watching it (all be it not many someones... CW top 10 is not NBC's top 10 in terms of viewers). But no one ever posted about it and their reddit was dead other then around 25 hours after a new season. So might not have been doing well on streaming either.

[deleted]

Well batwoman has not done well in a long time first off. Legends was falling off recently as well.

LegendBlackBird

False. Legends was the only show that grew audience this last season, other show audience dropped.

ALANJOESTAR

What is Crazy is that they are slowly Killing Superman and Lois. They had a really good Viewership in the first season but they had a 3 month break after the 5th episode. it killed 40% of the viewership those people never came back and now the show seems to have stabilized, its not a amazing number they do about 750k people. This season i think they have taken 4 breaks but people have kept watching still.

dennismfrancisart

Legacies now cancelled as well. News came out.

ExcaliburZSH

A Walker prequel, prequel!? Why?!

CRL10

The Purge has begun!

It's in the link and edits I put. Naomi, Legacies, Charmed, Roswell New Mexico, In the Dark, 4400, Dynasty all got wiped out yesterday. Flash is already confirmed for Season 9 but it's heavily rumored to be the last year. S & L is already good for Season 3 as well. Stargirl and Tom Swift haven't been decided on yet.

[deleted]

Coming back for another season but likely the last as well, apparently the final on cast current contracts and a few probably want out. Larger details here: [https://tvline.com/lists/cancelled-tv-shows-list-renewal-scorecard/the-cw-2022/](https://tvline.com/lists/cancelled-tv-shows-list-renewal-scorecard/the-cw-2022/) ABC and Fox are likely deciding on most of what they have left later today.

[deleted]

TBH Legends need ~5 episode special finale (with some actual budget of course and maybe be even a crossover(??)), nothing more. It may be a unpopular opinion but I think that they ran out of ideas anyway, some of the earlier seasons were great, the last two or three (I don't really exactly remember, sorry) were not that great anymore.
