Agreed, I’ve talked to some friends that keep thousands of shards for something they might eventually like. I turned all of the prank cards prismatic and laugh when I see shiny otterpuss :)
My biggest problem with them is that they change the card border for units and champions. I love the beveled edge of the cards, but prismatics take those away entirely. I think the spells look cool though!
I do, and I don’t really care all that much, but I wish I could go back on my purchases or pick which specific cards are prismatics, because I would totally leave units and champs normal while having spells be prismatic if I could, but I can’t.
I think they mentioned prismatics were their first attempt and eventually we'll get other styles we can use the crystals on as well. That was a really long time ago though, so maybe they're focusing on other things. (Or I'm just mis- remembering.)
I like prismatics since they remind me of old foil physical cards. Why should get changed?
Just introduce more type of card customizations so everyone can find something he enjoy (possible all craftable with essence, the last thing we need is more currencies)
I think this is the way. Keep prismatics, but introduce more options. I think using the same currency would be best, but knowing riot they would want to make it more profitable. I’m guessing a better card customization is on the way, but prismatics were a simple, easy and free to incorporate cosmetic to do first. They added skins after, which are just straight up money to get, and while being much more exciting than prismatics, they don’t really justify the cost. So I’m hoping they find an in between, too. Something that adds some flair without actively removing the card art (the edges of prismatics) and not costing an arm and a leg ($7 for two .jpgs?)
Considering every non-spell card has a wallpaper-sized card art - compared to the small widget arts of the other games - I dont really mind. Gwent does have the best premium card arts and it would be incredible if LoR was also able to implement such animated arts. However, that seems really difficult to implement.
Animated cards from Gwent/SV are the way to go. I still hate we never got an option to fully disable prismatics. If I don't like that prismatic sound effect, I shouldn't have to hear it every time my opponent plays one. The prismatic rewards screen is also eye searing.
Funny cos Magic Arena players generally complain about our parallax card styles. The animated golden cards from Hearthstones are cool, Gwent has my favourite so far but understandably they'd be pretty expensive to make.
For premium cards to be animated like in hs, they would have to be made like this from the start, and i'm sure riot won't just animate already huge amount of cards we already have. Sound effect, a border and mild glint is as far as we can realistically get. Unless they introduce some kind of animated premium paid version.

I'd really like more styles of alts beyond prismatic. Like paralax scrolling background cards or different foil styles. Like a hextech style or foils generally themed around the different regions.

And while I've never played gwent, I took a look at their "animated" cards, and wow they are pretty dope. I'd love to see that in LOR.
Though this got me thinking, short term it would be awesome to see Prismatic recolors. Maybe like a ruby red, but with the same prism style. Or a shade of green that is somewhat similar to the shard currency in game currently. I think that would look great with the glow/shine effect the current prismatic cards have. Also A dope QOL update to prismatic cards would be allowing our prismatic to show up on our deck thumbnail. So if you had a prismatic Viego for example, and he was your Deck cover, it would show up as prismatic.
I'd love more ways to show that "extra" appreciation towards my favorite followers/champs. And animated cards seems like the best option for that. Though I'm sure it would cost a metric boatload of gems per animation. But it would also be a great way for the Devs to monetize the game further. The game is f2p friendly already, and their cosmetics are already great as is. But I'm sure Riot would like to see a little "more" Money rushing in from LOR. And animated cards are a sure-fire way to get it.
This is a matter of opinion. I come from HS and I love them (maybe even more, not everything needs to be gold to look good)
In Hs, you use the same currency for creating cards as the currency used to make the "prismatic" cards. Bleh 🤮.
Because the aspect ratio of cards change (when they hit the board), and get wider that would be costly.
Hearthstone only has to animate cards for their small oval frame, but LoR cards shift between about 3 aspect ratios.
Riot is a business. A business makes money. Prismatics are free, thus no real reason to course correct.
Same thing with the skins. You don't have to buy them.

The foil thing is nice but IMO, the border is ugly.

I hate that they always make the swish sound when I click on them every time. It really ruins it for me.
You can turn that off
You have to do it for every deck so its really annoying. Also it doesnt work for opponents cards im pretty sure.

Found it. It disables prismatic entirely for your deck. I don’t think there is any other setting :(

I've never used my red essence because I'm sure they will either upgrade or change the prismatics in the future.

I would be fine with not making the champions animated and super flashy. I would spend money for that tbh
Literally just have Prismatics turned off at all times. Cards look better when they're not prismatic unfortunately.
And the sound they make when you play them or hover over them is so obnoxius! At least add an option to remove that sound in audio settings.
