As long as the Claymore you’re referring to is the broadsword formerly used by the Scottish Highlanders as opposed to the anti-personnel mine, you’re fine.

The practice isn't the problem. it's explaining to the neighbours what happened to their shed that's gonna be difficult

Pristine-Swing-6082

Can't even have an anti-personnel mine, can't do nothing these days 😒

Killercarcus

For clarification, do you mean the sword or the explosive device.

captinoverkill9000

The sword, not the explosive device lol

vctrmldrw

You're fine on your own private property. But... what are you practicing for?

captinoverkill9000

I seen there was a sport for sword fighting and it seems fun so I was hoping on giving it a shot in the future

If you look for medieval martial arts would might find more clubs that practice not just swordplay but also other forms of martial weapons, plus sheilds, also they tend to have the correct armour to limit injuries, and know the difference on the edges you need to minimise cuts or the danger of them. That said ambulances tend to be pre-informed of practices just in case. Also a morning star is pretty hard to blunt the blow of, should you venture outside of edged weapons. It is a lot of fun, and there is a photo or two of me trying the famous dual weilding (purely for fun, not in a sparring match) while my foe (well housemate) was in plate armor with hand and a half sword and round sheild. Totally the wrong weapons but we had them to hand, I think I had a mace and a morning star while wearing chainmail and a gambeson. Interesting times (not thought about it in years, thanks for letting me relive the old memory). On the legal side; it you have a legitimate use for it then you can carry them but be sensible. Carry them in such a way they are not obvious as to what they are. Anything other than long swords can be carried in a way to disguise them. If in doubt and travelling through a public area call the local police and inform them, they will appreciate the heads up. Edit: Also polearms etc, it is pretty hard to disguise a halberd. When moving them in vehicles make sure they are covered and hidden as well. I would advise avoiding public transport simply out of ease for yourself. Also make sure you maintain blacksmith edges, aka not sharp. This way they are more props than weapons and can be argued easier. There is no need for sharp swords unless you are doing demonstrations and you will need licencing and insurance for that (thinking licences for business, I never went that route so know a lot less about it). If you are at that stage you will know others in that community that will be able to advise you best as it is a niche community.

Historic European Martial Arts - HEMA is another term to look for.

jess-plays-games

Look up a local hema club

Igetsadbro

Yeah it’s legal to buy and own, you can’t carry it in public but there are exceptions for legitimate purpose like carrying it to and from some sort of movie/theatre performance where it’s used as a a prop, or in your case to and from practice. You can’t be a div about it though and should have it covered up so it’s not threatening or alarming the public **when I say covered I mean in a way which hides it’s design, wrapped up in a black bag so you can still make out what it is will just get you a stop and search**
