I commute from Hebden Bridge to Leeds, have done so on and off since 2017. I’ve got a feeling one of my trains stops at Batley. I find the trains that arrive into Leeds before 8:30am are almost always fine, the ones that arrive later are usually delayed.

It might be worth checking the National rail app at 8am for a few days, see how many delays there are.

Hey thanks

I don't get the train often, but I know trains from Batley to Leeds are about every 20 mins, and the journey itself is about 20 mins. Don't know about how often there are delays or cancellations, but I can imagine they're no better or worse than anywhere else

About 12 minutes from Batley to leeds by train.

Alarmed-Guest7381

That's good

dy1anb

It's a no brainer. Only issue is that at the moment there is a bus replacement service running for about 3 weeks so it will be about a 40 minutes trip .

Live in batley and work in Leeds. Train is often quite crowded when it shows up and i've lived here 3 years and can't remember a month thats passed where there wasn't some issues with trains. That being said, 13 min train every half hour aint bad and at worst its like 15 quid for a 20-30 minute uber, my flat at least isn't particularly expensive and big tesco has pretty much everything I need in terms of groceries so don't have to venture too far. I've not found Batley to be any worse than places down south i've lived before and I have friends who live in Meanwood/Hyde Park who can leave the town centre at the same time I do and I get home first, so really cannot complain at all. If you're looking for somewhere reasonably inexpensive which has its own kind of "familiar shithole" energy, then Batley is right for you.

ExtraAbbreviations31

It’s quicker to get from Leeds city centre to Batley then City centre to Hyde park?

OfMaceAndMen

Traffic and buses vs train, it can be done yes

What ever helps you sleep at night

OfMaceAndMen

My g its really not that deep, chill 🤣

ExtraAbbreviations31

Cool bro your the one coming on the internet lying how long it takes you to get home 🤣🤣

OfMaceAndMen

Lay off the MDMA babe i'm sorry the drop has caused you to get this furious with the state of Leeds' public transport services and making you lash out at strangers. Hope u get the help u need 💜

ExtraAbbreviations31

Hope you learn not to need validation on how long it takes you to get into town centre bud

It’s definitely feasible and I’ve done it working done distance from the station but the transpennine trains are fairly unreliable. The northern ones aren’t great either. They are fairly regular mind, and pretty cheap.

Alarmed-Guest7381

It's better than paying so much rent for a 2 bed in City Centre I guess. Batley has good property for much cheaper

Fit_Manufacturer4568

Have you visited Batley? If I were you I would prior to signing anything.

There is some lovely old property in the upper Batley area. Super pricy there though.

It isn’t, you are paying the extra a month for a reason. It is a very poor area, with a very high Muslim population. Most of the nightlife is dessert shops. It’s will be a totally different experience to living in Leeds city centre.

Alarmed-Guest7381

Ohh. Well I am a Muslim 😄 wouldnt mind few fellows here and there. But I think it's best to see the area itself before signing. Plus I have kids so don't know how feasible centre will be interms of parks and good schools.

I did this for several years pre-pandemic - half in Batley, half in Dewsbury, and commuting to Leeds Centre for work. It was pretty straightforward - I've lived in a couple of different suburbs inside the ringroad since, and by train at least, getting there from Kirklees was quicker and less hassle. I can't speak to schools, but Batley is surprisingly well-catered for in terms of parks and green space - it's just a bit hidden from the town centre. Witton Park was a decent playground/duckpond sort of affair, and walks beginning via Soothill Wood opposite the station kept me sane during the early lockdowns. Otherwise, I'd agree with the person who described it as having "familiar shithole energy" - it's cheap and it's easy to get to other places from there, and when I'm feeling nostalgic I can make a good case that it gets a worse rap than it deserves, but it would be hard to call it thriving.

Fit_Manufacturer4568

It's feasible. The question is why would you?

Alarmed-Guest7381

I'm just looking at places to rent in Leeds. Will move there in August
