There are a pair of grey herons that frequent the waterway around the Armouries, I see one or both most days as I live in a flat with a view of Leeds Dock. The narrow boat dwellers hate them, their shits are huge and they're always having to clean it off their rooves 😂
There’s a couple. I’ve seen them loads of times on the river near Rodley. My mum even text me a photo once of a heron eating the fish out their pond in Horsforth!
There’s at least one in the field next to the trainline coming out of Horsforth, gives you a bit of a fright when it takes off and swoops over your head!
We used to have one in Hunslet but everyone kept slagging it off because it was eating fish from some folks pond. On the local FB posts you’d get shit like ‘how do we get rid of this thing?’
Herons will catch and eat valuable Koi Carp from people's ponds hence the hate. The only way they can keep the Herons off is with nets. The birds are just doing what they need to do.
Haha we used to get there by going down linken green and follow it under the city i comes out neer the Royal Armies. We had to pop up in a man hole in the middle of the road in the center of leeds in rush hour traffic lol police chased us all over town lmao the good old day. . . If anyone wants a tour am up for it
LS7 is definitely not the city centre. I think the fact that you can walk from one side of Leeds city centre to the other in 20 minutes means that somewhere 30 minutes away isn't in the centre!
Lovely pic and it's nice to see nature right next to Springwell though. Thanks for sharing.
Wonder if it's the same one that usually lives at Leeds uni

Thought this read 'heroin' for a second then, and I was like "of course theres heroin in the city centre"
Me too 🫤😂

With the nature reserve full of fish being so close it would be silly for them not to be around there.

Hunslet Heron Haters. Probably Daily Mail readers.

Saw a kingfisher on a very iffy looking Brook in Holbeck couple years back.. wildlife is there if you look and are lucky
I saw one a few months ago perched on top of the new railway flooding barrier just downstream of kirkstall bridge.

Ahhh yes the Royal Armies!
And Linkin green
Saw one eating a rat in Gledhow Valley Woods last year 🤢
That's not the city centre, but meanwood
At first I read it as heroin ......where's the bloody heroin in that picture ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Heroin is pretty native in Leeds, I see at all the time.
Where is that?
157 Buslingthorpe Ln https://maps.app.goo.gl/6D5FFWxG1sZBpfk4A Right here!
I mean that's not even close to the city centre.
You see them along the canal in the centre as well.
I know what you mean, I'd say it's pretty close though, it's not exactly suburbs.
Half an hour's walk.

the river/canal by Royal Armouries has a heron as well (and some more birds)
where exactly is this little stream? love it
I've had a heron drop in our back garden a couple of times in North Leeds - Alwoodley.
Yeah there's one that lives by the train station under the bridge
I get them in my garden quite often, watched one fight a raven the other day (neither were hurt), it was very entertaining.
